00:01There are many ways in which you could prevent depression.
00:05First is having a good social support system.
00:09Always have at least one relationship where you can be yourself,
00:13where you could speak your mind out without being scared
00:17or without feeling that you would be judged or criticized.
00:21Because if you open up your heart and if you are able to vent out anything and everything that's inside
00:28of you,
00:28you would not really feel depressed.
00:31The second important thing you could do is to work on your sense of self.
00:36Failure happens in life.
00:38But if you feel reassured and if you feel strong about your own self,
00:43then nothing can really shake you up.
00:48Thirdly, it's important to see how you are kind of seeing the world.
00:54That also does make you depressed.
00:57It's very important when you have extremely negative thoughts which say that
01:01I am worthless, I am hopeless, everything is helpless.
01:05Just try and think back about those times when you have been strong,
01:09when you have been good, when you have fought.
01:12Because when you think of all these things, they boost up your confidence
01:16and they challenge the extremely negative view that you have had.
01:22Fourthly, adopting a healthy lifestyle which would mean a good diet, an exercise, an investment in some hobbies which you
01:30like.
01:31All this also acts as a buffer.
01:34And lastly, if despite all this you feel that the negative thoughts do not go away,
01:40please do not shy from consulting a mental health professional.
01:43Many a times people also shy away from that and this worsens their symptoms.
01:48Go on!
