00:00It is the world famous K-Rock. I'm Megan Holliday. We're backstage day two of Ann's Warped Tour. I'm here
00:05with Waterparks!
00:06Allegedly!
00:07What's up, you guys?
00:08I feel like I'm way louder than you. I hate it.
00:10No, I love this. That's how it should be. That's how it should be. You're in charge, alright? You're taking
00:15over the interview.
00:16I'm captain of the ship.
00:17So you guys played earlier, right?
00:19We did do that.
00:19Yeah, so how was it?
00:21It was great. I shouldn't have worn sleeves, but it ruled. Like, everybody was sick.
00:26Like, sometimes at festivals, people are tired. You know what I mean?
00:29And they're conserving energy, because it's like, duh, it's hot.
00:32A long day, yeah.
00:33Yeah, but they were into it, which I really appreciated.
00:36And while we were playing, a plane was flying over, and it's like, jinx, buy water parks out now.
00:41And I'm just like, fuck this. Look up. Look up. That costs money. This doesn't cost money. Look at that.
00:47How full circle of a moment is that, you know?
00:50I've always wanted to be dragged along by an airplane.
00:53Sounds like fun, you know?
00:55So, obviously, growing up, you went to Warped Tour.
01:00100%.
01:00Right?
01:00Yes.
01:01So, do you have any memories of being at a Warped Tour when you were younger, and maybe seeing a
01:06band and just feeling like it changed your life, or being in a pit, or something like that?
01:09Yes.
01:09Oh, yeah.
01:09Because the first Warped Tour I ever went to actually got rained out, and so they had to move it
01:15to the next day, and they moved it indoors, because it was going to get rained out again.
01:19What the hell?
01:20Yeah, and because of that, I didn't know him yet, but he couldn't go. He worked at Kroger, the grocery
01:24store.
01:24Oh, yeah, okay.
01:25And so, he actually had to miss it, and my first Warped Tour was indoors.
01:30What the hell?
01:31It was beautiful.
01:31What city were you in?
01:32Houston.
01:33Oh, my God.
01:33That's where we're from.
01:34Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:35Imagine Warped with air conditioning.
01:37Oh, my God. Dude, that's epic.
01:38I don't have to imagine it. I just have to remember it.
01:41Yeah, you have to relive it.
01:42Yeah.
01:42Oh, my God. What about you guys?
01:44I forget which year it was, but I got to see Foxy Shazam, and they were, like, first thing in
01:50the morning.
01:50Oh, my God.
01:52And I saw the matches.
01:54Oh, nice.
01:55No, I didn't, actually.
01:57You did?
01:57Yeah. I saw Coheed and Cambria, New Found Glory.
02:00Nice.
02:01Oh.
02:01Okay, if you want to get flexed on, Jeff.
02:05Here we go.
02:06All right, do it, Jeff.
02:06That's some bullshit.
02:07Make everybody sick.
02:08My first war tour was 2005.
02:10Okay.
02:11I got to watch My Chemical Romance.
02:13Oh.
02:14I got to watch The U's.
02:16Yes.
02:16I got to watch probably Fall Out Boy.
02:18Yes.
02:19I got to watch The All-American Rejects.
02:21Dude.
02:22I got to watch so many.
02:23He got the best year.
02:24That's, like, unbelievable.
02:25Yeah.
02:25That sounds like it's made up, you know?
02:28I know.
02:28At that first one, because it had gotten rained out, like, a bunch of the ones I wanted to see
02:33had skipped it to go to the next city.
02:35Oh, dude.
02:36So I missed Paramore.
02:37Yeah.
02:37What was it?
02:39Family Force 5.
02:40I wanted to see them.
02:42What's it called?
02:43Chiodos.
02:44They, I don't think they played.
02:45Oh, man.
02:46It was a bunch of people that I had to skip.
02:48Dude, that's gnarly.
02:49Yeah.
02:49But they made it happen.
02:50They moved it indoors.
02:51Yeah.
02:52I would sacrifice three great bands from today if this was, for this to be inside.
02:56Right, right.
02:57For the greater good.
02:57It's like, we got to do what we got to do.
02:59But you wouldn't be sacrificed, of course.
03:01You know?
03:01We could sacrifice us.
03:02All right.
03:03So we have to talk about the airplane flying over, and it says Jinx, and that is the name
03:08of your brand new album, which just came out on Friday, right?
03:11You hear that?
03:12Yeah.
03:12Everyone.
03:13New Waterparks album.
03:15Woo!
03:15It's called Jinx.
03:16Yes.
03:17Woo!
03:17Woo!
03:18Woo!
03:18We have a woo button pusher here on the couch, and it's epic.
03:23So tell me about this new era of Waterparks and this album.
03:27It took so much longer than normal.
03:31It took three years to make this album.
03:33Oh, my gosh.
03:33And we tried it with new producers for the first time in forever.
03:37Went up to Long Island and recorded more than half of it in a fun house.
03:42Oh, my God.
03:43What?
03:44Swear to God.
03:44Because the producer, his parents are low-key swingers.
03:47Okay.
03:48Can I say that?
03:48Yeah, you can say it.
03:49Okay, cool.
03:49Oh, yeah.
03:50Say more.
03:50And they had a swing house.
03:52But it was also novelty movie stuff.
03:54And with actual swings, I'm assuming.
03:56Yes, it was swings.
03:56Swing house with swings.
03:57It's a very literal swing.
03:58Yeah.
03:59You walk up, and above the door, it's like, Fisher Price.
04:03But, yeah, the whole roof is just a rainbow.
04:05It's the red, blue, and yellow.
04:07What?
04:08So that's exactly what you needed for the inspiration.
04:11So you go in there, and it's like a life-size Predator, like of the movie Predator.
04:16What?
04:16Not like a Predator.
04:18Yeah, just stop.
04:20There's like a crazy movie memorabilia, massive novelty silverware.
04:27Whoa.
04:27Okay.
04:28There's a bunch of stuff that looks like lips.
04:30All right.
04:30Yeah, that checked out.
04:31Oh, and the basement that we actually recorded in, right next to the control room, was just
04:37a massive room.
04:38I'm telling you, it's legit, like, a little bit bigger than this tent.
04:42Okay.
04:43That's full green screen.
04:44Like, the floor is green screen, the walls, the ceiling, the poles.
04:47What the hell?
04:48I'll do that again.
04:49The poles, all of it's green screen.
04:51So did you make a bunch of crazy videos in there, or what?
04:54No, because when we're doing an album, I'm not in fun mode.
04:58I'm like, okay, fuck, this.
05:01I'm getting, like, analytical.
05:02Yeah, of course.
05:03You know?
05:03And I'm just, like, so locked in.
05:05Under normal circumstances, if there was, that's how you know, I think I have, like,
05:09a Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde kind of thing going on.
05:11Oh, sure.
05:11I think we all do, yeah.
05:12Because I'm just, like, I was so locked in there.
05:14But me right now, if there was a green screen room over there, you'd be going ham.
05:19You'd be like, where the fuck is water parks?
05:20Yeah.
05:20One million percent.
05:21Yeah.
05:22Ooh.
05:23Ooh, it'd be cool if you could make a green screen interview room.
05:25I think that that's a vibe.
05:26Did I say green screen?
05:28Green screen.
05:30Green screen interview room.
05:32Shout out Ireland.
05:33So what can you tell people about this new album?
05:37What do you love about it?
05:38And what are you excited about for right now?
05:40It's my favorite.
05:41I genuinely think it's the best one.
05:43Everybody says that about their new album because labels make you say that.
05:47It's in the contract.
05:48You have to say it's the best one.
05:49But it really is.
05:50It really is.
05:51I would say this even if BMG wasn't giving me $13 million to say it.
05:55They're not.
05:57But no, it's so fucking good.
05:59And I can't wait forever.
06:00Oh, wait.
06:00Are there kids here?
06:02Uh-oh.
06:02A couple of kids running around.
06:03All right.
06:03We're good.
06:04We're good.
06:04I don't see any.
06:05Okay, good.
06:06So fucking good.
06:07After Warped Tour?
06:08You guys going on tour?
06:09Glass Jaws on.
06:10Glass Jaws on.
06:11I know.
06:12Sick.
06:12Ape Dose Meal, baby.
06:15We're about to go do some in-stores.
06:17Okay.
06:17Like record store things and signings, meet and greets and stuff.
06:19Oh, I love that.
06:20We're going to be in Portland this time tomorrow.
06:22Okay.
06:22So we're going to go there.
06:24Like Houston.
06:26We're from Chicago, New York, Orlando.
06:29We're going around.
06:30Hell yeah.
06:30Well, you guys are so good at connecting with your fans.
06:33And I just love you.
06:34We were in a music video together.
06:36I know.
06:36We were in the Batflower video together.
06:38I know.
06:38And it's been amazing.
06:39Over in Frogtown.
06:39To watch, you know, just the trajectory.
06:42And you guys are massive.
06:43And everybody loves you.
06:44And you got to play Warped Tour today.
06:45Do you hear that?
