00:06the best bands in all of the land, Taking Back Sunday.
00:09Hello, gentlemen.
00:10Thank you for having us.
00:11It's so good to see you again.
00:13It's great to be here.
00:14And I gotta say, I am impressed because you are wearing suits, and it is extremely hot and humid outside.
00:22Well, we have a catering gig after this one, so this is done, so we go straight to that.
00:27And then we figured, why not?
00:30It's just easier.
00:31Get in the attire.
00:32Well, the traffic here is crazy.
00:33We'd never make it in time.
00:34Yes, that is very true.
00:36And the good thing about this Warped Tour is we have this area right here that is air-conditioned, which
00:41is very nice.
00:41That helps.
00:43So you guys are a band that, when I was younger and I was going to Warped Tour, I would
00:47see.
00:47You know, I would go there to specifically see you guys play.
00:50Thank you for that.
00:51Do you have any past memories from those times of playing Warped Tour?
00:56Or maybe crazy things that happened?
00:59Yeah.
01:00Oh, yeah.
01:01There was, we were, the first year that we did the tour, we were with, or, Hazen Street was on
01:11there.
01:12And so just, they were, what was really great in getting to know them is because they were, for lack
01:20of better terms, like our elders, you know, but we just looked up to them so much.
01:24And then so, but then to also kind of, they were, we learned so much from them, and that's one
01:34of the biggest things.
01:35It's more, and you were speaking a little bit to it before we started talking, was more about the community
01:40that surrounds it or the Warped Tour.
01:44And, and we're just really happy that we get to be a part of that.
01:47That's pretty cool.
01:48Yeah, yeah, I know.
01:49I was kind of telling you guys, you know, before we started filming that there is just a different, distinct
01:53feeling about Warped Tour because people are here because they love these bands.
01:57We all grew up listening to bands like you guys, and there's just a real sense of togetherness, and it's
02:04just so great that you guys are here once again this year.
02:07Is there anything different that you feel like, you know, Warped Tour then versus Warped Tour today, is there a
02:13stark contrast?
02:15Well, you know, Warped Tour not being eight weeks long makes a big difference.
02:21You're not busting it town to town.
02:25Yeah, just, you know, these weekend things that they're doing, it's, that's great.
02:29You know, it's, that, you know, that changes things, I feel like, in a cool way.
02:34I like that.
02:35Yeah, agreed.
02:35Was there ever a band where you would stop everything that you were doing and make sure that you could
02:39go run and watch them?
02:45No, I think it was just us.
02:48You're like, we love our music, and now we're done.
02:51Well, we would always, like, we're always, we were always meant about town, so we didn't miss much, and we
03:00knew if we didn't catch it on one day, we'd catch it the next.
03:03Yes.
03:04And, and that was one of the cool things about being a part of it, you know, because also, like
03:11we were saying earlier, there's this thing about to, like, we never imagined that we would be able to, to
03:18be on the Warped Tour or something like that.
03:20And then, but to be able to have been a part of it for all these years now is really
03:26awesome.
03:27And how do you guys feel about, you know, obviously everybody loves, you know, tell all your friends.
03:33And do you ever get tired of, you know, playing those songs, or do you get excited from the fan
03:39reaction?
03:41It, it's the, it's, it's the reaction from the crowd that, that, that is, like, that's one of the things
03:47I think that we all look forward to the most.
03:50It is, is because for us, like, when that, when that happens, it's like, we're, we're more, we're a part
03:57of the whole thing.
03:57Yes.
03:58And it, and it's, and, and that, and that's what I'm always chasing.
04:02Yeah, there's, like, something that's, that's almost, like, supernatural that feels like it happens when the crowd is, like, there
04:10and responding.
04:11And, you know, like, we've played those songs sometimes at, at practice, and it doesn't feel the same.
04:16It's not, it's not very fun, really.
04:19But, but then when everyone's screaming along with you.
04:23Yeah.
04:23The most exciting thing ever, magically, you know, it's amazing.
04:26Yeah, it's like real world Harry Potter stuff, though, because, because, because I, because there's something about that energy, and
04:35I think it's connected to what you were saying, like, just how you feel being here, you know?
04:39And there's, and there's, there's real power in, in just, because you look out in the crowd, right?
04:46And there's people from all, like, in all different chapters of their lives, you know?
04:50Like, and, but then to all be getting lost at the same time to the same thing, there's power in
04:54that.
04:55And it's, and it's, it's, it's, it's one of my favorite things.
05:01So, yeah, just, I feel like I keep going back to, and I'm really happy to be here.
05:05Yeah.
05:05Because I'm really happy to be here.
05:06I know.
05:07When we wrote those songs, there was a hope that it might resonate with some of our friends.
05:12And maybe we could put out a record, maybe a record label would pay for it, and then we could
05:17do a tour.
05:18But that was it.
05:19We didn't really see beyond that.
05:21So now it's 24 years later.
05:23I think there's going to be 60 plus thousand people here tonight.
05:27And to play those songs and have them resonate with so many people is mind-blowing.
05:31So I'm still the kid, I think we still are, who wrote those songs at the practice spaces around Long
05:36Island,
05:36who had very low, low, low expectations.
05:39So this is so far beyond the dream, even.
05:41And so it's an amazing thing to keep living and get to experience every day.
05:46So those songs mean the world to us.
05:48Yeah, absolutely.
05:48And they mean the world to us, too.
05:50And so with the 25th anniversary coming up, do you guys think you might do something, a little something, possibly,
05:56to celebrate?
05:57Possibly.
05:58There's.
06:00Quarter century, that's crazy.
06:01Yeah.
06:02That is insane.
06:03Well, it's like wild, too, because this year is 20 years of louder now.
06:08And then so, well, like in the fall, we're going out with Thrice and Saves the Day.
06:14Oh, my God.
06:14That's going to be so sick.
06:15Oh, my God.
06:16Because, like, all these years, like, we've done, like, Warped Tour things and other festival things with Thrice, but never,
06:23like, a full tour.
06:24So we're very excited because we're all big fans.
06:27We have been.
06:28And then Saves the Day, you know, like, I drove, I would drive hours and hours to see Saves the
06:35Day.
06:35So I'm just really happy that I'll get to see them every night again.
06:39Absolutely.
06:39Well, yeah, Thrice, another band who are going to be here.
06:42And all these bands that you're mentioning, I know, are just so formative and important to so many of us.
06:46And I love you guys so much.
