00:05Tour in Long Beach, and I'm joined by punk rock royalty right here, Mike of MXPX.
00:11Dude, what is going on, man?
00:12What's up, what's up? So good to be here, good to be back. Warped Tour is, you know, it's part
00:17of life. It really is. It's in your DNA, it's in your veins, man.
00:20So that's what I want to ask you right away. Like, what makes Warped Tour so special after all these
00:25years? Because you're a vet, you've played it more than once, you know?
00:28Yeah, I think what makes Warped Tour so special is the people. It's really a family that puts it on,
00:33and the more you spend time at Warped Tour, the more part of the family you are.
00:38I mean, it really is, it really has been amazing over the years to just come back, see so many
00:43familiar faces over the years, and new faces, by the way.
00:46And new faces.
00:46Welcome to, this is your first time here.
00:48Yeah, don't mean to out me right there, but yeah, this is my first Warped Tour here, and I'm really
00:53excited to be here with the world-famous K-Rock, and of course with you.
00:56So I feel like I'm in good hands right now. And I also wanted to ask you too, like, how
00:59do you, as like a punk rock veteran, help guide newer artists that come through?
01:04Bands like The Paradox, Meet Me at the Altar. How do you kind of like, what advice would you give
01:08those kind of artists?
01:09You know, I was talking to Millington, actually. They're a ska band from New Jersey, and they were on DC,
01:15they're on Today, and we were playing some shows with them.
01:18And just getting to hang out with them, getting to talk to them about, okay, everybody's loving you out here,
01:25make sure you book a show right away, ASAP, things like that.
01:29That's usually what I end up telling people, is like, if they have a momentum, keep that momentum. Don't let
01:37it drop.
01:37There you go.
01:38Same goes for Warped Tour. Keep your momentum.
01:40Keep the momentum.
01:40Is there something you see in these younger artists that maybe wasn't there, or something that's new, like when you
01:45were coming up?
01:46Kids are so smart these days, you know, they're so talented, so smart, they really pay attention to what has
01:52gone before them, and they're doing it better than ever.
01:55I think that's a difference, because back when we were, we learned a lot from the Descendants, but, you know,
02:01we were just hanging out playing video games with them, you know, but I think these new bands are really,
02:05they have a mind all of their own to really make things happen, so.
02:09I mean, I hope so. We have, like, smartphones in our pocket now, so, like, we have supercomputers.
02:13We should be using it to, like, look back in history and be like, oh, these are the punk rock
02:17pioneers that came before you. Do your homework a little bit.
02:19And a lot of it is, we should be taking some of our cues with social media from the newer
02:23bands, because they grew up with the phone in their, in their, totally.
02:27You help us, we help you guys. We help you guys, keep you up to date on the new TikTok
02:31trends and everything, too.
02:32And then one last tidbit I saw online, my buddy Obi backstage was telling me, so, Fletcher from Pennywise took
02:39your bass and smashed it on stage?
02:42He did, he did.
02:43What's up with that?
02:44He wanted to be part of the club.
02:46So, when we were at the No Effects last shows in, well, down here in Southern California last year, I
02:53think it was last year, maybe even the year before.
02:56But it was, what was it, the decline.
02:59So, a half hour, 30 minute song by No Effects.
03:02Everybody got up and played.
03:04I was one of those, one of the many.
03:07But Fletcher started grabbing specific bass players' basses and smashing them.
03:12And when I saw that happen, I knew, oh, this is, this is a bad sign.
03:16Yeah.
03:16And I, I tried to hide from him, but I put my bass behind me, and somebody thought that I
03:22was dropping it.
03:23Oh.
03:23And so they picked it up, and there, and Fletcher just grabbed it.
03:28And I was just like, all right.
03:29He goes, it's a sacrifice.
03:31A sacrifice for punk rock.
03:33No way.
03:34And so I was like, you know what?
03:35You're right.
03:35It is a sacrifice.
03:37It's for punk rock.
03:38Fletcher, do your worst.
03:39Well, did you get him back?
03:40Did you go on his stage?
03:41I did get him back.
03:42When they were in San Diego with The Offspring, I went to the show.
03:48I bombarded the stage.
03:50I took his guitar, and I smashed it.
03:52And Jim was, was looking at me like, what are you doing?
03:57He's like, you better not, dude.
03:58You better not do that.
03:59Yeah, yeah.
03:59Jim wasn't too happy, but he's all right.
04:01I give him, I called him, I left him a message.
04:03Well, I mean, it's an open door policy here at the world famous KROG, so if you and Fletcher
04:07want to hash it out one more time and have like an on-air like smash contest, please.
04:11I would be willing to wrestle Fletcher in a wrestling ring.
04:17I don't know.
04:17I mean, we'll see what happens.
04:19Maybe next year warped.
04:20I mean, we'll make it happen.
