00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 18
05:02He said,
05:03I love you, Lord, my source of strength.
05:07The Lord is my high ridge, my stronghold, my deliverer.
05:12My God is my rocky summit, where I take shelter, my shield, the horn that saves me, and my refuge.
05:20I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I was delivered from my enemies.
05:27The waves of death engulfed me, the currents of chaos overwhelmed me.
05:33The ropes of shale tightened around me, the snares of death trapped me.
05:39In my distress I called to the Lord, I cried out to my God.
05:45From his heavenly temple he heard my voice, he listened to my cry for help.
05:52The earth heaved and shook, the roots of the mountains trembled, they heaved because he was angry.
06:00Smoke ascended from his nose, fire devoured, as it came from his mouth.
06:06He hurled down fiery coals.
06:10He made the sky sink as he descended, a thick cloud was under his feet.
06:16He mounted a winged angel and flew, he glided on the wings of the wind.
06:21He shrouded himself in darkness, in thick rain-clothes.
06:26From the brightness in front of him came hail and fiery coals.
06:32The Lord thundered in the sky, the Most High shouted.
06:37He shot his arrows and scattered them, many lighting bolts, and routed them.
06:43The depths of the sea were exposed, the inner regions of the world were uncovered by your battle cry, Lord,
06:51by the powerful breath from your nose.
06:54He reached down from above and took hold of me, he pulled me from the surging water.
07:00He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hate me, for they were too strong for me.
07:08They confronted me in my day of calamity, but the Lord helped me.
07:14He brought me out into a wide-open place.
07:17He delivered me because he was pleased with me.
07:21The Lord repaid me for my godly deeds.
07:24He rewarded my blameless behaviour.
07:28For I have obeyed the Lord's commands.
07:30I have not rebelled against my God, for I am aware of all his regulations, and I do not reject
07:39his rules.
07:41I was innocent before him, and kept myself from sinning.
07:46The Lord rewarded me for my godly deeds.
07:50He took notice of my blameless behaviour.
07:53You prove to be loyal to one who is faithful.
07:58You prove to be trustworthy to one who is innocent.
08:02You prove to be reliable to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive to one who is
08:09perverse.
08:11For you deliver oppressed people, but you bring down those who have a proud look.
08:18Indeed, you light my lamp, Lord.
08:21My God illuminates the darkness around me.
08:26Indeed, with your help, I can charge against an army.
08:30By my God's power, I can jump over a wall.
08:36The one true God acts in a faithful manner.
08:39The Lord's promise is reliable.
08:42He is a shield to all who take shelter in him.
08:47Indeed, who is God beside the Lord?
08:50Who is protector beside our God?
08:54The one true God gives me strength.
08:57He removes the obstacles in my way.
09:01He gives me the agility of a deer.
09:04He enables me to negotiate the rugged terrain.
09:08He trains my hands for battle.
09:11My arms can bend even the strongest bow.
09:16You give me your protective shield.
09:18Your right hand supports me.
09:20Your willingness to help enables me to prevail.
09:24You widen my path.
09:26My feet do not slip.
09:29I chase my enemies and catch them.
09:32I do not turn back until I wipe them out.
09:35I beat them to death.
09:37They fall at my feet.
09:40You give me strength for battle.
09:42You make my foes kneel before me.
09:46You make my enemies retreat.
09:48I destroy those who hate me.
09:52They cry out, but there is no one to help them.
09:55They cry out to the Lord, but he does not answer them.
09:58I grind them as fine wind-blown dust.
10:04I beat them underfoot like clay in the streets.
10:08You rescue me from a hostile army.
10:11You make me a leader of nations.
10:14People over whom I had no authority are now my subjects.
10:19When they hear of my exploits, they submit to me.
10:23Foreigners are powerless before me.
10:26Foreigners lose their courage.
10:27They shake with fear as they leave their strongholds.
10:31The Lord is alive.
10:33My protector is praiseworthy.
10:35The God who delivers me is exalted as king.
10:40The one true God completely vindicates me.
10:45He makes nations submit to me.
10:48He delivers me from my enemies.
10:50You snatch me away from those who attack me.
10:54You rescue me from violent men.
10:58So I will give you thanks before the nations, O Lord.
11:02I will sing praises to you.
11:05He gives his king magnificent victories.
11:09He is faithful to his chosen ruler,
11:12to David and his descendants forever.
11:15Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
11:19as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
11:23world without end.
11:25Amen.
11:32The book of Ecclesiastes, chapter 2.
11:36I said in my heart,
11:38I will give you joy for a test.
11:40So, take your pleasure.
11:42But it was no purpose.
11:45Of laughing I said, it is foolish.
11:48And of joy, well, what use is it?
11:52I made a search with my heart to give pleasure to my flesh with wine,
11:57still guiding my heart with wisdom,
11:59and to go after foolish things,
12:02so that I might see what was good for the sons of men to do
12:05under the heavens all the days of their life.
12:10I undertook great works,
12:12building myself houses and planting vine gardens.
12:17I made myself gardens and fruit gardens,
12:20planting in them fruit trees of all sorts.
12:24I made pools to give water for the woods with their young trees.
12:28I got men servants and women servants,
12:31and they gave birth to sons and daughters in my house.
12:35I had great wealth of herds and flocks,
12:38more than all who were in Jerusalem before me.
12:43I got together silver and gold,
12:45and the wealth of kings and of countries.
12:48I got makers of song, male and female,
12:51and the delights of the sons of men,
12:54girls of all sorts, to be my brides.
12:57I became great,
12:59increasing more than all who had been before me in Jerusalem.
13:03And my wisdom was still with me.
13:07Nothing which was desired by my eyes did I keep from them.
13:12I did not keep any joy from my heart,
13:15because my heart took pleasure in all my work,
13:18and this was my reward.
13:23Then I saw all the works which my hands had made,
13:26and everything I had been working to do.
13:30And I saw that all was to no purpose and desire for wind,
13:35and there was no profit under the sun.
13:39I went again in search of wisdom and of foolish ways.
13:43What may the man do who comes after the king,
13:46the thing which he has done before?
13:50Then I saw that wisdom is better than foolish ways,
13:54as the light is better than the dark.
13:58The wise man's eyes are in his head,
14:00but the foolish man goes walking in the dark.
14:04But still I saw that all the same event comes to them all.
14:11Then I said in my heart,
14:13As it comes to the foolish man,
14:16so it will come to me.
14:18So why have I been so wise?
14:21And I said again in my heart,
14:23This again is to no purpose.
14:28Of the wise man as of the foolish man,
14:31there is no memory forever,
14:34saying that those who now are well
14:36have gone from memory in the days to come.
14:40See how death comes to the wise as to the foolish.
14:45So I was hating life,
14:47because everything under the sun was evil to me.
14:51All is to no purpose and desire for wind.
14:57Hate had I for all my work which I had done,
15:01because the man who comes after me
15:03will have its fruits.
15:05Who is to say that that man will be wise or foolish,
15:10but he will have power over all my work which I have done,
15:14and in which I have been wise unto the sun.
15:17This again is to no purpose.
15:21So my mind was turned to grief
15:23for all the trouble I had taken,
15:25and all my wisdom under the sun.
15:28Because there is a man whose work
15:30has been done with wisdom,
15:32with knowledge and with an expert hand.
15:35But one who has done nothing for it
15:37will have it for his heritage.
15:41This again is to no purpose and a great evil.
15:46What does a man get for all his work,
15:49and for the weight of care
15:50with which he has done all his work under the sun?
15:54All his days are of sorrow,
15:57and his work is full of grief.
16:00Even in the night his heart has no rest.
16:03This again is to no purpose.
16:07There is nothing better for a man
16:09than taking meat and drink
16:11and having delight in his work.
16:14This again, I saw,
16:16was from the hand of God,
16:19who may take food or have pleasure without him.
16:23To the man with whom he is pleased,
16:26God gives wisdom,
16:28knowledge and joy.
16:30But to the sinner,
16:32he gives the work of getting goods together
16:34and stalling up wealth,
16:36to give to him in whom God has pleasure.
16:40This again,
16:41is to no purpose
16:43and desire for wind.
16:46This is the word of the Lord.
16:49Thanks be to God.
17:01Mary said,
17:03My soul exalts the Lord,
17:06and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
17:10because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
17:16For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
17:20because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
17:24and holy is his name.
17:27From generation to generation
17:29he is merciful to those who fear him.
17:33He has demonstrated power with his arm.
17:37He has scattered those whose pride wells up
17:40from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
17:43He has brought down the mighty from their thrones
17:46and has lifted up those of lowly position.
17:49He has filled the hungry with good things
17:52and has sent the rich away empty.
17:56He has helped his servant Israel,
17:59remembering his mercy,
18:00as he promised to our ancestors,
18:03to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.
18:08Glory be to the Father and to the Son
18:11and to the Holy Spirit,
18:13as it was in the beginning,
18:15is now and ever shall be,
18:18world without end.
18:20Amen.
18:27The Gospel according to St. Matthew chapter 18
18:32In that hour the disciples came to Jesus,
18:35asking,
18:36Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
18:41He took a little child and put him in the middle of them,
18:44saying,
18:46Truly I say to you,
18:48if you do not have a change of heart
18:50and become like little children,
18:52you will not go into the kingdom of heaven.
18:57Whoever then will make himself as low as this little child,
19:01the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
19:05Whoever gives honour to one such little child in my name,
19:09gives honour to me.
19:11But whoever is a cause of trouble
19:13to one of these little ones
19:14who has faith in me,
19:17it would be better for him
19:18to have a millstone fixed to his neck
19:21and to come to his end
19:23in the deep sea.
19:26A curse is on the earth because of trouble,
19:29for it is necessary for trouble to come.
19:33But unhappy is the man through whom the trouble comes.
19:37If your hand or your foot is a cause of trouble,
19:40let it be cut off and put away from you.
19:44It is better for you to go into life
19:47with the loss of a hand or a foot
19:50than having two hands or two feet
19:52to go into the eternal fire.
19:56If your eye is a cause of trouble to you,
19:58take it out,
19:59put it away from you.
20:02It is better for you to go into life
20:04with one eye
20:05than having two eyes
20:07to go into the hell of fire.
20:11Let it not seem to you
20:12that one of these little ones is of no value.
20:15For I say to you that in heaven
20:17their angels see at all times
20:19the face of my Father in heaven.
20:24What would you say?
20:25If a man has a hundred sheep
20:27and one of them has wandered off,
20:29will he not let the 99 be
20:31and go to the mountains
20:32in search of the wandering one?
20:35If he comes across it,
20:37truly I say to you,
20:38he has more joy over it
20:40than over the 99
20:41which have not gone out of the way.
20:45Even so, it is not the pleasure
20:47of your Father in heaven
20:48for one of these little ones
20:51to come to destruction.
20:54This is the word of the Lord.
20:57Thanks be to God.
21:09Now according to your word,
21:11Sovereign Lord,
21:13permit your servant
21:14to depart in peace.
21:16For my eyes have seen your salvation
21:19that you have prepared
21:20in the presence of all peoples,
21:24a light for revelation
21:25to the Gentiles
21:26and for glory
21:28to your people Israel.
21:32Glory be to the Father
21:33and to the Son
21:34and to the Holy Spirit
21:35as it was in the beginning,
21:38is now and ever shall be,
21:40world without end.
21:42Amen.
21:47I believe in God,
21:49the Father Almighty,
21:51maker of heaven and earth,
21:53and in Jesus Christ,
21:54his only Son,
21:55our Lord,
21:57who was conceived
21:58by the Holy Spirit,
22:00born of the Virgin Mary,
22:02suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
22:05was crucified,
22:07dead,
22:07and buried.
22:08He descended into hell.
22:11On the third day
22:12he rose again from the dead.
22:14He ascended into heaven
22:16and is sitting
22:18at the right hand of God,
22:19the Father Almighty.
22:21From there he shall come
22:23to judge the living
22:24and the dead.
22:26I believe in the Holy Spirit,
22:28the Holy Catholic Church,
22:30the communion of saints,
22:32the forgiveness of sins,
22:34the resurrection of the body
22:36and the life everlasting.
22:39Amen.
22:44The Lord be with you
22:46and with your spirit.
22:51Let us pray.
22:55Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:58Christ, have mercy upon us.
23:03Lord, have mercy upon us.
23:09Our Father,
23:11who is in heaven,
23:13holy is your name.
23:15May your kingdom come.
23:18May your will be done
23:19on earth as it is in heaven.
23:22Give us this day
23:24our daily bread.
23:25Forgive us our trespasses
23:27as we forgive those
23:29who trespass against us.
23:32Lead us not into temptation,
23:34but deliver us from evil.
23:37For yours is the kingdom,
23:40the power and the glory,
23:42for ever and ever.
23:44Amen.
23:49O Lord, show your mercy upon us
23:52and grant us your salvation.
23:58Protect and guide those
24:00in authority over us
24:03and mercifully hear us
24:05when we call upon you.
24:08Endue your ministers
24:10with righteousness
24:11and make your chosen people joyful.
24:17O Lord, save your people
24:21and bless your inheritance.
24:25Give peace in our time,
24:28O Lord,
24:29because there is none other
24:31who fights for us
24:32but only you, O God.
24:36O God, make clean
24:37our hearts within us
24:40and take not
24:42your Holy Spirit from us.
24:51Let us pray.
24:55Grant to us, Lord,
24:57we beseech you,
24:58the spirit to think
25:00and do always
25:01such things as be right
25:04that we who cannot do anything
25:06that is good without you
25:07may by you
25:09be enabled to live
25:10according to your will.
25:12Through Jesus Christ,
25:14our Lord.
25:15Amen.
25:24O God,
25:25from whom all holy desires,
25:28all good counsels
25:29and all just works proceed,
25:32give to your servants
25:33that peace
25:34which the world cannot give,
25:37that our hearts
25:38may be set to obey
25:40your commandments,
25:40and also that by you
25:43we, being defended
25:45from the fear
25:46of our enemies,
25:47may pass our time
25:49in rest and quietness.
25:51Through the merits
25:53of Jesus Christ,
25:54our Saviour.
25:55Amen.
26:01Lighten our darkness,
26:02we beseech you,
26:03O Lord,
26:04and by your great mercy
26:06defend us all
26:07from perils
26:08and dangers
26:09of this night.
26:11For the love
26:12of your only Son,
26:13our Saviour,
26:14Jesus Christ.
26:15Amen.
26:19Almighty God,
26:21who has given us grace
26:22at this time
26:23with one accord
26:24to make our common
26:26supplications to you
26:27and promises
26:29that when two or three
26:30are gathered together
26:31in your name,
26:32you will grant
26:33their requests.
26:36Fulfill now,
26:37O Lord,
26:38the desires
26:39and petitions
26:40of your servants
26:41as may be
26:42most beneficial
26:43for them,
26:45granting us
26:46in this world
26:47knowledge
26:48of your truth
26:49and in the world
26:50to come
26:51life everlasting.
26:54Amen.
26:57May the grace
26:58of our Lord Jesus Christ
26:59and the love of God
27:00and the fellowship
27:02of the Holy Spirit
27:03be with us all
27:05evermore.
27:06Amen.
