00:00Hello and welcome to the Met Office weekend weather forecast.
00:04There are still signs that the weather is going to change fairly significantly by Christmas Day,
00:10which of course is now just a week away.
00:12But up until then, unfortunately, it's more of the same.
00:16More of the same Atlantic-driven weather.
00:18Rain-bearing weather fronts coming in from the west.
00:21But, having said that, Saturday at least starts dry and bright for many,
00:26particularly across central and eastern parts of the UK.
00:27Plenty of sunshine first thing, a chill in the air.
00:31Some showers towards the west during the morning.
00:33And then this next weather front moves in.
00:36An active feature, slowing down as it pushes into Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, West Wales and Cornwall,
00:41bringing some heavy rain by the afternoon and increasing winds.
00:45Wet and windy in the west, with Irish Sea coastal areas seeing wind gusts of 50 miles an hour
00:50or a touch more in some of the most exposed spots.
00:54Here's that weather front.
00:55It's slowing down, but it's going to bring some heavy rain overnight, Saturday night into Sunday,
00:59to areas where we don't need more rain.
01:02South-west England, South Wales in particular.
01:04And this area of low pressure towards the south-west will continue to bring cloud and outbreaks of rain
01:09to many areas during Sunday itself.
01:12The heaviest and most frequent showers, south-western parts.
01:16And also eastern Scotland, northern England, seeing some rain moving through Northern Ireland.
01:21Some wet weather as well.
01:22Well, drier spells in between, but a lot more cloud around compared with Saturday.
01:25The best of any drier and brighter weather in north-west Scotland.
01:28The wind's starting to feel fairly cold, even if temperature's still a little above average for the time of year.
01:34So, bright start to the weekend.
01:35Increasing amounts of cloud and spells of rain as the weekend wears on.
01:41Then, a change gradually starts to take place through next week.
01:46It is gradual, though, because we've still got areas of low pressure pushing to the south-west of the UK,
01:51still bringing some rain or showers in places, particularly south-west areas and increasingly eastern Scotland.
01:57But later Tuesday, and into Christmas Eve, there are these emerging signals that high pressure will build to the north-east of the UK,
02:05eventually sending these lows further south and bringing drier weather to the UK.
02:11Drier rather than completely dry.
02:13There will still be some showers around on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, particularly eastern parts and southern parts of the UK.
02:22But with the wind switching to the east rather than from the west, well, we're going to see temperatures fall back to all just below average.
02:31Nothing dramatically cold signal at the moment.
02:34But it's certainly going to feel colder in that easterly wind, even if eventually it starts to brighten up after a rather drab few days early next week with a lot of cloud cover.
02:45So, a drier, perhaps in places, brighter Christmas Day and feeling a bit colder in the easterly wind.
