00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 37
04:59Do not fret when wicked men seem to succeed.
05:04Do not envy evildoers, for they will quickly dry up like grass, and wither away like plants.
05:12Trust in the Lord, and do what is right.
05:15Settle in the land, and maintain your integrity.
05:19Then you will take delight in the Lord, and he will answer your prayers.
05:24Commit your future to the Lord, trust in him, and he will act on your behalf.
05:31He will vindicate you in broad delight, and publicly defend your just cause.
05:37Wait patiently for the Lord, wait confidently for him.
05:41Do not fret of the apparent success of a sinner, a man who carries out wicked schemes.
05:48Do not be angry and frustrated.
05:51Do not fret.
05:52There's only leads to trouble.
05:55Wicked men will be wiped out, but those who rely on the Lord are the ones who will possess the
06:01land.
06:03Evil men will soon disappear.
06:05He will stare at the spots where they once were, but they will be gone.
06:11But the oppressed will possess the land, and enjoy great prosperity.
06:18Evil men plot against the godly, and viciously attack them.
06:23The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming.
06:30Evil men draw their swords and prepare their bows, to bring down the oppressed and needy, and to slaughter those
06:37who are godly.
06:40Their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
06:46The little bit that a godly man owns is better than the wealth of many evil men.
06:52For evil men will lose their power, but the Lord sustains the godly.
06:58The Lord watches over the innocent day by day, and they possess a permanent inheritance.
07:06They will not be ashamed when hard times come.
07:09When famine comes, they will have enough to eat.
07:13But evil men will die.
07:16The Lord's enemies will be incinerated.
07:19They will go up in smoke.
07:23Evil men borrow, but they do not repay their debt.
07:26But the godly show compassion, and are generous.
07:31Surely those favoured by the Lord will possess the land.
07:35But those rejected by him will be wiped out.
07:39The Lord grants success to the one whose behaviour he finds commendable.
07:46Even if he trips, he will not fall headlong, for the Lord holds his hand.
07:53I was once young, now I am old.
07:57I have never seen a godly man abandoned, or his children forced to search for food.
08:04All day long, he shows compassion, and lends to others, and his children are blessed.
08:12Turn away from evil.
08:14Do what is right.
08:16Then you will enjoy lasting security.
08:19For the Lord promotes justice, and never abandons his faithful followers.
08:26They are permanently secure, but the children of evil men are wiped out.
08:34The godly will possess the land, and will dwell in it permanently.
08:40The godly speak wise words, and promote justice.
08:44The law of their god controls their thinking, and their feet do not slip.
08:51Evil men set an ambush with the godly, and try to kill them.
08:55But the Lord does not surrender the godly, nor allow them to be condemned in a court of law.
09:03Rely on the Lord.
09:05Obey his commands.
09:07Then he will permit you to possess the land, and he will see the demise of evil people.
09:14I have seen ruthless evil men growing in influence, like a green tree grows in its native soil.
09:22But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared.
09:27I looked for them, but they could not be found.
09:31Take note of the one who has integrity.
09:34Observe the upright.
09:36For the one who promotes peace has a future.
09:40Sinful rebels are totally destroyed.
09:42Evil men have no future.
09:45But the Lord delivers the godly.
09:48He protects them in times of trouble.
09:51The Lord helps them and rescues them.
09:54He rescues them from evil men and delivers them.
09:58For they seek his protection.
10:02Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
10:09is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
10:13Amen.
10:22The book of Job, chapter 19.
10:27Then Job answered,
10:29How long will you torment me and crush me with your words?
10:33These ten times you have reproached me.
10:36You are not ashamed to attack me.
10:39But even if it were true that I have erred, my error remains solely my concern.
10:46If indeed you would exalt yourselves above me, and plead my disgrace against me, then know that God has wronged
10:55me and encircled me with his net.
10:59If I cry out, violence, I receive no answer.
11:03I cry for help, but there is no justice.
11:07He has blocked my way so I cannot pass, and has set darkness over my paths.
11:13He has stripped me of my honour, and has taken the crown off my head.
11:18He tears me down on every side until I perish.
11:21He uproots my hopes like one uproots a tree.
11:26Thus his anger burns against me, and he considers me among his enemies.
11:32His troops advance together.
11:34They throw up a siege ramp against me, and they camp around my tent.
11:40He has put my relatives far from me.
11:43My acquaintances only turn away from me.
11:47My kinsmen have failed me.
11:49My friends have forgotten me.
11:52My guests and my servant girls consider me a stranger.
11:57I am a foreigner in their eyes.
11:59I summon my servant, but he does not respond, even though I implore him with my own mouth.
12:06My breath is repulsive to my wife.
12:09I am loathsome to my brothers.
12:12Even youngsters have scorned me.
12:14When I get up, they scoff at me.
12:18My closest friends detest me.
12:20Those whom I have loved turn against me.
12:25My bones stick to my skin and my flesh.
12:28I have escaped alive only with the skin of my teeth.
12:35Have pity on me, my friends.
12:37Have pity on me.
12:38For the hand of God has struck me.
12:42Why do you pursue me like God does?
12:45Will you never be satiated with my flesh?
12:48O words that were written down, or that were written on a scroll,
12:52that with an iron chisel and with lead,
12:55they were engraved in a rock forever.
12:59As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
13:01and that as the last,
13:04he will stand up on the earth.
13:07After my skin has been destroyed,
13:09yet in my flesh I will see God,
13:12whom I will see for myself,
13:14and whom my own eyes will behold,
13:17and not another.
13:19My heart grows faint within me.
13:21If you say,
13:23How will we pursue him,
13:25since the root of the trouble is found in him?
13:29Fear the sword yourselves,
13:31for wrath brings punishment by the sword,
13:34so that you may know that there is judgment.
13:39This is the word of the Lord.
13:41Thanks be to God.
13:55Mary said,
13:56My soul exalts the Lord,
13:59and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
14:03because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
14:09For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
14:14because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
14:17and holy is his name.
14:20From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
14:26He has demonstrated power with his arm.
14:30He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
14:36He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
14:39and has lifted up those of lowly position.
14:43He has filled the hungry with good things,
14:45and has sent the rich away empty.
14:49He has helped his servant Israel,
14:52remembering his mercy,
14:54as he promised to our ancestors,
14:57to Abraham,
14:58and to his descendants for ever.
15:02Glory be to the Father,
15:04and to the Son,
15:04and to the Holy Spirit,
15:07as it was in the beginning,
15:08is now,
15:10and ever shall be,
15:11world without end.
15:13Amen.
15:22The Gospel according to Saint Matthew,
15:25chapter 2
15:28After Jesus was born in Bethlehem,
15:30in Judea,
15:31in the time of King Herod,
15:32wise men from the east came to Jerusalem,
15:35saying,
15:36Where is the one who is born King of the Jews?
15:40For we saw his star when it rose,
15:42and have come to worship him.
15:46When King Herod heard this,
15:48he was alarmed,
15:49and all of Jerusalem with him.
15:52After assembling all the chief priests and experts in the law,
15:56he asked them whether Christ was to be born.
16:00In Bethlehem of Judea,
16:02they said,
16:03for it is written this way by the prophet,
16:06And you, Bethlehem,
16:07in the land of Judah,
16:09are in no way least among the rulers of Judah.
16:13For out of you will come a ruler
16:15who will shepherd my people Israel.
16:20Then Herod privately summoned the wise men,
16:23and determined from them exactly when the star had appeared.
16:27He sent them to Bethlehem,
16:29and said,
16:30Go, look carefully for the child,
16:32and when you find him,
16:33inform me,
16:35that I might go and worship him as well.
16:40After listening to the king,
16:41they left,
16:42and once again the star they saw when it rose,
16:45led them until it stopped above the place where the child was.
16:51When they saw the star,
16:52they shouted joyfully,
16:53and as they came into the house,
16:55and saw the child with Mary his mother,
16:59they bowed down and worshipped him.
17:29They opened their treasure boxes,
17:30and looked for the child to kill him.
17:33And then he got up,
17:35took the child and his mother during the night,
17:38and went into Egypt.
17:40He stayed there until Herod died.
17:42In this way,
17:44what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet was fulfilled.
17:48I called my son out of Egypt.
17:54When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men,
17:58he became enraged.
18:00He sent men to kill all the children in Bethlehem,
18:03and throughout the surrounding region from the age of two and under,
18:08according to the time that he had learned from the wise men.
18:13Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled.
18:18A voice was heard in Ramah,
18:21weeping and loud wailing,
18:24Rachel weeping for her children,
18:26and she did not want to be comforted,
18:28because they were gone.
18:31This is the word of the Lord.
18:34Thanks be to God.
18:46Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
18:49permit your servant to depart in peace.
18:53For my eyes have seen your salvation,
18:56that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
19:00a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
19:03and for glory to your people Israel.
19:08Glory be to the Father,
19:10and to the Son,
19:11and to the Holy Spirit,
19:12as it was in the beginning,
19:15is now,
19:15and ever shall be,
19:17world without end.
19:19Amen.
19:24I believe in God the Father Almighty,
19:28maker of heaven and earth,
19:30and in Jesus Christ,
19:31his only Son,
19:32our Lord,
19:33who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
19:36born of the Virgin Mary,
19:38suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
19:42was crucified,
19:44dead,
19:44and buried.
19:45He descended into hell.
19:48On the third day,
19:49he rose again from the dead.
19:51He ascended into heaven,
19:53and is sitting at the right hand of God,
19:56the Father Almighty.
19:58From there,
19:59he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
20:03I believe in the Holy Spirit,
20:05the Holy Catholic Church,
20:07the communion of saints,
20:09the forgiveness of sins,
20:11the resurrection of the body,
20:13and the life everlasting.
20:16Amen.
20:21The Lord be with you,
20:24and with your spirit.
20:28Let us pray.
20:32Lord, have mercy upon us.
20:35Christ,
20:36have mercy upon us.
20:40Lord,
20:41have mercy upon us.
20:46Our Father,
20:48who is in heaven,
20:50holy is your name.
20:52May your kingdom come.
20:54May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
20:59Give us this day our daily bread.
21:02Forgive us our trespasses,
21:04as we forgive those who trespass against us.
21:08Lead us not into temptation,
21:11but deliver us from evil.
21:14For yours is the kingdom,
21:16the power and the glory,
21:19for ever and ever.
21:21Amen.
21:26O Lord,
21:27show your mercy upon us,
21:29and grant us your salvation.
21:35Protect and guide those in authority over us,
21:40and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
21:45Endue your ministers with righteousness,
21:49and make your chosen people joyful.
21:54O Lord,
21:55save your people,
21:58and bless your inheritance.
22:02Give peace in our time,
22:04O Lord,
22:06because there is none other who fights for us,
22:09but only you,
22:10O God.
22:12O God,
22:14make clean our hearts within us,
22:17and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
22:29Let us pray.
22:32Grant, O Lord,
22:34we beseech you,
22:35that the course of this world
22:36may be so peacefully ordered by your governors,
22:40that your church may joyfully serve you
22:43in all godly quietness,
22:45through Jesus Christ,
22:47our Lord.
22:48Amen.
22:57O God,
22:58from whom all holy desires,
23:01all good counsels,
23:02and all just works proceed,
23:05give to your servants that peace
23:07which the world cannot give,
23:09that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
23:14and also that,
23:16by you,
23:17we,
23:18being defended from the fear of our enemies,
23:21may pass our time in rest and quietness,
23:24through the merits of Jesus Christ,
23:27our Saviour.
23:28Amen.
23:34Lighten our darkness,
23:35we beseech you,
23:36O Lord,
23:37and by your great mercy defend us all
23:40from perils and dangers of this night.
23:44For the love of your only Son,
23:46our Saviour,
23:47Jesus Christ.
23:48Amen.
23:52Almighty God,
23:54who has given us grace at this time with one accord,
23:57to make our common supplications to you,
24:01and promises that when two or three are gathered together in your name,
24:05you will grant their requests.
24:09Fulfill now,
24:10O Lord,
24:11the desires and petitions of your servants,
24:14as may be most beneficial for them,
24:18granting us in this world knowledge of your truth,
24:22and in the world to come,
24:24life everlasting.
24:27Amen.
24:30With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
24:32and the love of God,
24:33and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
24:36be with us all evermore.
24:39Amen.
