11:51And with shame comes a reproach.

13:48A toss of a coin ends disputes,
13:51and settles the issue between strong opponents.
13:56A relative offended is harder to reach than a strong city,
14:01and disputes are like the barred gates of a fortified citadel.
14:06From the fruit of a person's mouth,

14:13he is satisfied.
14:16Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
14:19and those who love its use,

16:30The Gospel according to St. Matthew,
16:33chapters 13 and 14.
16:37Now when Jesus finished these parables,
16:39he moved on from there.
16:41Then he came to his hometown,
16:44and began to teach the people in the synagogue.
16:47They were astonished and said,
16:49Where did this man get such wisdom and miraculous powers?
16:53Isn't this the carpenter's son?
16:56Isn't his mother named Mary?
16:58And aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?
17:03Aren't all his sisters here with us?
17:05Where did he get all this?
17:08And so they took offence at him.
17:12But Jesus said to them,
17:14A prophet is not without honour,
17:17except in his own home,
17:19and in his own house.
17:21And he could not do many miracles there,
17:24because of their unbelief.
17:27At that time,
17:28news of Jesus came to Herod the king,
17:31and he said to his servants,
17:33This is John the Baptist.
17:35He's come back from the dead,
17:36and so these powers are working for him.
17:40For Herod had taken John,
17:42and put him in prison,
17:44because of Herodias,
17:45his brother Philip's wife.
17:48Because John had said to him,
17:50It is not right for you to have her.
17:54He would have put him to death,
17:56but for his fear of the people,
17:58because in their eyes,
18:00John was a prophet.
18:04But when Herod's birthday came,
18:06the daughter of Herodias
18:07was dancing before them,
18:09and Herod was pleased with her.
18:12So he gave her his word with an oath,
18:15to let her have whatever
18:16she might make request for.
18:20She, at her mother's suggestion, said,
18:23Give me here on a plate,
18:25the head of John the Baptist.
18:28The king was sad,
18:30but because of his oaths,
18:32and because of his guests,
18:34he gave the order for it to be given to her.
18:36And so he sent,
18:38and had John's head cut off in prison.
18:41His head was put on a plate,
18:43and given to the girl,
18:45and she took it to her mother.
18:48His disciples came,
18:50and took up his body,
18:51and put it in the earth.
18:53And then they went and gave Jesus news
18:56of what had taken place.
19:00This is the word of the Lord.
19:03Thanks be to God.
19:16Now, according to your word,
