00:00Hello there, welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:04Today, yet again, we'll see temperatures into the high 20s, if not 30 degrees Celsius,
00:10along the east coast as well as the far north and onshore breeze, keeping things cooler.
00:15The high pressure is still really dominant across much of the country as we head through Friday into the weekend,
00:21but the wind will eventually come in from the north, a gentle breeze,
00:24and so it will feel different as we head through the weekend.
00:28Certainly a bit more cloud around and with that, temperatures will be lower.
00:31In fact, this morning, you can see the cloud has pushed right across much of central parts of England
00:37towards east Wales along this east coast yet again, burning back to the coast like the last few days
00:42and more cloud this time through the morning across the far north and northwest of Scotland.
00:47There will be some holes in the cloud through the day for Shetland as well as Orkney.
00:51The cloud could cling to the coastline though, northeastern areas of England, eastern parts of Scotland.
00:57But where the sun comes out along this eastern strip, despite an onshore breeze, it's been pleasantly warm.
01:03Now elsewhere, strong sunshine, temperatures rising very quickly through the day.
01:07And notice we do have some foundry showers just gathering towards the far southwest,
01:12so there is a small chance we could see one later on.
01:15Here are your temperatures through the afternoon.
01:17So yet again, we're looking at probably 25, 26, 27 across the northwest further south.
01:24Another day where we'll see temperatures peak into the 30s.
01:27Along this east side where you catch some sunshine, probably 20 to 24 Celsius,
01:31but where the cloud lingers and is persistent, 16, 17 degrees Celsius.
01:35So for most, it will be a fine day, a very warm one, if not hot, with that sunshine.
01:42And then through this evening and overnight, pleasantly warm across many areas,
01:47that cloud moving in and spreading its way westwards.
01:51It could be fairly extensive as we head into Friday morning.
01:54And notice by this point, this northerly wind has kicked in, fairly gentle inland.
01:59Across the northern isles and the western isles, a bit of a brisk breeze.
02:02So here are your temperatures overnight.
02:05You can see here, probably 13, 14 degrees Celsius.
02:08Towards the south, we could just about see a 17, generally speaking 15 or 16.
02:13That canopy of cloud, keeping temperatures slightly higher across the northeast of Scotland.
02:17We've seen some relatively low values here through the last few nights.
02:22And certainly a bit of a cloudy start to the day on Friday across some parts.
02:27So through the morning, we do have that gentle northerly wind.
02:30Now, where the cloud's thick enough, it could be a bit damp, particularly across Pennines.
02:34Certainly across the far north of Scotland, a little bit of rain and drizzle here.
02:38Elsewhere, some clearer skies further south and southwest.
02:41So the sun really gets to work yet again.
02:43And Friday is probably the last day for a while where we'll see 30 degrees somewhere.
02:48Now, through the morning into the afternoon, the cloud again will break up, burning back to that east coast.
02:54The wind then keeping things cooled across more northern and northwestern areas, the northeast of Scotland as well.
03:00But where you catch the sunshine, 23, 24 along the east coast inland, 27 to possibly locally 30 degrees Celsius.
03:08For the central belt of Scotland, you could see a 24, 25, a similar situation for Northern Ireland and also
03:15for Wales as well.
03:16Temperatures into the high 20s.
03:18So another day where we see heatwave conditions and that strong sunshine.
03:24But here's your outlook into the weekend and more details, obviously, on our 10-day trend this week with Alex
03:29Birkhill.
03:30The heatwave will ease a mix of cloud and sunshine, but locally fresh along some coasts exposed to that northerly
03:36wind.
03:37I'll see you later. Have a lovely day.
