00:05And it is 5 o'clock. Congratulations. Hopefully you're off work.
00:10Luckily for you, old dirty show, team will have the latest.
00:13And the latest is, one, there have been some technical difficulties,
00:18but they're all there and ready.
00:21Those of you who love to jump on with us on YouTube, we're back.
00:25We're there live on YouTube and get the chat started over there on YouTube
00:31like you guys do every day.
00:32I don't know where you're at. Where you at, Cornbread?
00:34Where you at, Rob?
00:36Where you at, yeah, Jordan?
00:40Where is the crew?
00:42Derwin, where is the crew on YouTube?
00:45We're back live and local, and you can check us out both the rest of this hour
00:53and with Texans All Access and with Area 45.
00:56By the way, big interview.
00:58Thunder Rosa, former AEW Women's Champion, will be on the show tonight.
01:05I might be some Thunder Rosa.
01:06She was in character.
01:08Yeah, she was in paint, yeah.
01:11In costume.
01:12Yeah, in costume.
01:12Yeah, shout-out to Melissa.
01:15See you out there.
01:16But she'll be, you know, I get real names.
01:18Shout-out to Melissa, the former AEW Champion,
01:22but she'll be on with the fellas tonight, so stay tuned for that.
01:24But, yes, you can catch us on YouTube.
01:26You can see our lovely faces now on YouTube.
01:30All right, Clint, the Astros, they've got a big one tonight,
01:34and it's a, you know, for two teams that are well under .500,
01:40this is one of the more intriguing games of the night
01:44because of the pitching matchup and the return of two guys.
01:47Now, Hunter Brown and Yiner Diaz, they are both reinstated
01:52and both will be on the field tonight.
01:54Hunter's starting, and then Yiner is catching for him.
01:57Colin Price and then Jaden Murray, they're gone.
02:01Colin Price back to Sugar Land.
02:03Jaden Murray was just DFA'd.
02:05But the big one tonight, Hunter Brown, Framber Valdez.
02:11Let's take each one of them.
02:13What Framber do you see us seeing tonight at the Dyke?
02:18It's his first time back.
02:19He's 3-5 ERA, 4.5, 4.40 to be exact.
02:26What do you see from Framber tonight?
02:28I think we get the best Framber that's out there.
02:30I think there's plenty of motivation.
02:32I don't care how you slice it, whether you think you left on bad terms
02:36or you think it's a non-factor.
02:38I just simply believe when a team chooses to move on from you,
02:42a team doesn't offer you what you think you're worth,
02:46doesn't feel like they need you to be competitive
02:49and make runs here moving forward.
02:51After doing what you did for an organization, you feel some kind of way.
02:55There ain't no doubt about it.
02:56Framber Valdez feels some kind of way.
02:58And I just believe that with that kind of motivation,
03:01this caliber player doesn't need a whole hell of a lot of it,
03:04and he does have plenty of it.
03:06I think you get the best Framber Valdez.
03:08I think we get a hell of a game tonight between two really,
03:12really good to great pitchers in this league.
03:14I don't know if he circles things on the calendar,
03:18but I know this game damn sure didn't sneak up on Framber.
03:22I think he probably started to see maybe the way this thing was shaking
03:27in the rotation, and he wants to come out and show out.
03:32And I'm with you.
03:33I think he's at least going to try to put and be as focused as normal.
03:40Now, that doesn't still mean that Framber can't be had
03:44or you can't get in his head, but I do think I'm with you.
03:46I think he is a focused Framber Valdez.
03:49And then the other side, Clint, is Hunter Brown.
03:51Hunter Brown we have not seen.
03:53He is 1-0 in two starts this season with an ERA under one.
03:59And he has been this team's ace.
04:01He finished third in the Cy Young Award voting,
04:03and we kept saying they needed to get him back and make it matter.
04:09They're within striking distance right now, four-and-a-half back,
04:13three-and-a-half in the wild card.
04:15But to me, like, this is the first one out.
04:18You hope that he can get through this thing.
04:20I'm sure he is on a pitch count, and you hope he can get you through five
04:24and keep the Tigers down and show some glimpses.
04:28I don't think you expect him to be the best version of himself, obviously,
04:33but I still think he is somebody that can go out there and put up zeros
04:37and go about five innings and get his lineup a chance to really win this game.
04:43Quality start for me, Ron.
04:45Quality start.
04:45I need six innings.
04:47You know, I know, as you mentioned earlier, he is a pitch count run up there
04:51because he's a strikeout guy, but I just feel like we're going to get –
04:56Hunter Brown ain't going to step on that bump without being ready.
04:58And I just feel like we're going to get a good quality start out of him,
05:04and it's going to be a hell of a game to watch.
05:07I needed this from my Astros.
05:08I'll be honest with you.
05:09Joe Espada has taken a lot of the wind out of my sails.
05:12Oh, I'm into this one.
05:13With these decisions he's making, I didn't watch an ounce of live baseball last night.
05:19I will tune into this one.
05:21I needed this right here from my Astros.
05:23There you go.
05:23Text line coming in.
05:24I think Hunter – I think they're talking about Hunter, not Framberg.
05:27I think he's going to go – going to give up three hits, one run,
05:30and go seven innings tonight.
05:32We'll see.
05:33We'll see.
05:34He better be efficient if that's Hunter Brown.
05:36He better be efficient on that because I don't think Hunter Brown
05:39just has 100 pitches to throw tonight.
05:41I would say he threw 78 in his last start at Sugar Land.
05:46I would say he's probably around 80, 85 with the pitch count.
05:51The lineup is out.
05:53It is Pena at short.
05:55Jordan in the field.
05:57Left field tonight.
05:58Christian Walker is the DH with Paredes at first.
06:02Altuve at second.
06:04And, again, another one returning.
06:05Clint Yiner Diaz is catching tonight.
06:07He moves into that sixth spot with Cam Smith, Bryce Matthews,
06:12and then Raynell Delgado is getting his second start at third base.
06:17He is at the bottom of the order.
06:18Well, I think that's the other piece of this is – look,
06:21I know Yiner Diaz has been disappointing this season defensively
06:26and at the plate for the most part.
06:27But can he get back into form and maybe at least at the plate give you a little
06:34bit more pop, maybe bring some of that power to the lineup that you need
06:37and be the guy that was Yiner Diaz a couple of years ago.
06:42Can we get closer to that instead of what we saw earlier in the season?
06:45So there's another – it's a hope and a prayer,
06:47but we'll see what Yiner can bring in his return.
06:51My buff boy, Hunter Brown.
06:53Five o'clock fire.
06:54All right.
06:54All right, the big story around sports right now has been what's happening
07:00in Lubbock, Texas, and it has now finally come to a head.
07:04After we got off work, Clint and Tyler, it was reported that Texas Tech
07:11and Brendan Sorsby had – Brendan Sorsby, excuse me, had parted ways
07:17and that he would not be playing college football this upcoming season.
07:22And then shortly after that, Clint, it had been reported that he plans
07:28on applying for the NFL supplemental draft with things.
07:32He was ruled ineligible by the NCAA for obviously making more than 9,000 bets,
07:40totaling almost – over $90,000.
07:44Though it did look like there was a chance, at least from the court rulings,
07:48that he would be reinstated, but it looked like a long shot.
07:53A lot of people were getting involved in this, including the Big 12.
07:57A lot of Big 12 coaches and other people around college football
08:02speaking out against this, Clint.
08:03It has finally come to an end.
08:05I don't think either one of us are surprised how it's happened.
08:10But, boy, there is some real lessons learned on how this was handled.
08:15Yeah, look, I'm not surprised at all that this is the outcome.
08:19I commend the kid.
08:21I don't know who helped him make the decision,
08:22but I commend Brendan Sorsby for just saying, hey, I'm withdrawing money.
08:27Actually, I believe he withdrew the injunction, the result of the injunction,
08:31and just to put a stop to all of this.
08:34And he's going to declare for the supplemental draft.
08:38Tip the cap to him.
08:39But, look, here's the deal.
08:41Texas Tech, any way you slice it, this was poorly managed.
08:44They've got egg on their face.
08:46It's not a major ordeal.
08:48It'll go by the wayside, and we'll keep this thing moving,
08:51and it'll be a topic of conversation for another week.
08:54It'll probably be brought up if and when a team decides to give up a second
08:58or even a first-round pick for him in a supplemental draft,
09:02and then it'll fall by the wayside.
09:04I think they could have avoided the embarrassment of how they handle it.
09:08I thought it was piss poor.
09:09Even my Red Raider folks out there that I know have said it.
09:14Yeah, they were disappointed.
09:15Yeah, I mean, they've said as much.
09:18And, you know, look, I think it'll be water under the bridge.
09:21No big deal.
09:21Keep this thing moving.
09:22I'm just glad that they finally decided to do the right thing,
09:29and not because it's, quote, unquote, the right thing,
09:31but because it's just like you make a mountain out of a molehill, man.
09:36I mean, in today's world, when you do something like this,
09:39it gets out of control.
09:41It becomes, you know, bigger than it needs to,
09:45and I think this is the best-case scenario for the school
09:48as well as for the Big 12 as well as for the young quarterback.
09:52Yeah, and now he is entering the supplemental draft,
09:55and that will be interesting to see how many teams –
09:59because, again, like – again, I've watched and read publications
10:05about his draft status going into this season,
10:08and he was, I think, anywhere you look at it,
10:11the fifth or sixth-ranked quarterback in multiple publications
10:15that I've seen him and the car kid from Notre Dame
10:20were kind of flip-flopping in the five and the six spot.
10:24So, you know, that isn't a guarantee of where they thought he was
10:29to start this season.
10:30He probably was going to really need this year
10:32to really up himself up into the draft.
10:35But now he has decided to go this route,
10:37and I think there is enough talent there.
10:40He's a guy who can run it and throw it
10:42that it should probably garner a lot of at least checking in
10:47and teams maybe trying to do something
10:49to find their way to get their quarterback.
10:51Yeah, look, I think this is a –
10:53somebody's going to get him a lot cheaper than they would had he –
10:56because, look, the thought is that Texas Tech –
10:59I mean, anybody in their right mind, you know, knows that they were –
11:03I'm not saying they would have made a run
11:04to the college football playoffs, but I think they would have gone out there
11:07and the quarterback for Texas Tech, with the money that they're spending,
11:11would have had a pretty solid to great year.
11:14And the coaching they have and the team they have.
11:16Yeah, he was good in Cincinnati and probably would have been better.
11:19I mean, there's a reason why LSU and Texas Tech were two teams
11:23with championship aspirations were fighting over him
11:25and paid him $4 or $5 million.
11:27You could see the Mendoza feel.
11:29Yeah.
11:30Potential.
11:31Not saying he is, but –
11:32Just that kind of year of –
11:33Yeah, well, just saying Mendoza,
11:34Mendoza was not on the – this time last year was not –
11:37Oh, the jump out.
11:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:38Now he was the number one pick in the draft.
11:40Right.
11:40Well, and here's the deal with him.
11:42He's like – I think most folks would say a good to great year this year
11:46at Texas Tech.
11:47Stay healthy.
11:48He's a first-round draft pick.
11:50I do think he's a first-round draft pick talent
11:53because you look at the loose arm, you look at the athletic ability,
11:56that component of playing quarterback is a plus when you look at draft evaluation.
12:00I think he would grade well and combine well enough to be a first-round draft pick in the league.
12:10Now, with this stuff hovering over his head, you know,
12:13does he fetch a first round in a supplemental draft?
12:15I don't know.
12:16Probably not.
12:17I see where most folks are thinking that he's going to be –
12:19some team will be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for him.
12:23And the thing is, you know, that'll probably be a quarterback-needy team,
12:27which means it's going to be an early second-round pick more than likely.
12:31So you're talking about a valuable pick for a guy that, you know, like you said,
12:36you'd like to see one more year of college out of him to decide what exactly he is.
12:40But somebody, I think, for less investment, let's call it that,
12:46because I think in order to get your hands on this kid, you know, a year from now in the
12:49draft,
12:49I think it would have been a first-round draft pick.
12:51But you're going to be able to give a second or third, I think, and get him,
12:54and you could potentially get your future quarterback.
12:57He is – we've seen organizations gamble on less.
12:59I'll put it to you that way.
13:00I'm not going to say he's the best in sliced bread,
13:03but we've seen organizations gamble on less.
13:06They're going to take a look.
13:07I didn't think I probably shouldn't have worded it that way.
13:08They're going to take a look because it's not going to cost us as much.
13:11And I don't think he will just prevent you from drafting your – like for your Cleveland,
13:16I don't think he prevents you from drafting your future quarterback
13:19just because you picked him up.
13:20Pro day on the schedule already.
13:22How about that?
13:23Go ahead, man.
13:23He better get it going.
13:25I said, oh, Lord Jesus, it's a fire.
13:27And I'm on it.
13:28It's a clock fire.
13:29I kind of liked it when Tyler was doing the five o'clock fire voice thing the other day.
13:33Friday.
13:33It's a clock fire.
13:35It's a clock fire.
13:37News in the NFL,
13:38and I do think this is something that could affect the Texans' claim.
13:41Now, Cam Jordan, many thought was maybe the top guy left on the market in general,
13:48but especially when it comes to D-line play.
13:51He was an edge rusher, obviously getting up there in age clint,
13:54but had 10-and-a-half sacks with the Saints last year.
13:58He is going to go back to the Saints.
14:00They have agreed to a one-year incentive-laden deal,
14:05and still the numbers haven't come out on that.
14:09I am really interested in seeing the numbers with that.
14:12And the reason why I think this could affect the Texans, Clint,
14:16is because I am certain that the Texans are going to make an addition
14:23to their defensive line room,
14:25and in particular their edge rushing room right now,
14:28when you just look at how,
14:30when you look at the quality of guys they had behind their two big guns
14:36the last few years,
14:37that doesn't seem to be matching the quality that they have right now.
14:41And when you look at guys out there,
14:43like Joey Bosa is probably the top one now.
14:46There's Von Miller out there.
14:48There's Jadavian Clowney.
14:50There is Derek Barnett, who you had last year.
14:53Cam Jordan coming off the board
14:55and then seeing on a one-year deal, Clint,
14:58how much he costs, what he gets,
15:00will then lead you to understand a little bit more
15:02of how much the other guys that you would get.
15:05I don't know that they would ever look to have gotten Cam Jordan
15:08because I think he can still be a starter,
15:10but some of these other guys that can be rotation pieces,
15:13it kind of gives you an understanding of how much that may cost you.
15:15Yeah, it'll set the bar for the aging defensive end edge player
15:19that can go get you some sacks.
15:21I don't know that he's going to be a 10-and-a-half sack guy,
15:23but it's what we last saw, so he's definitely a sack getter.
15:27And, yeah, it'll set the bar and give you an idea of what some of those –
15:30you've got the Von Millers of the world.
15:32Yeah, Von Miller, Bosa, Clowney's out there.
15:34I'm here.
15:34I'm here.
15:34I'm here.
