00:00Weekend's best, weekend's worst. You can text in yours, 713-572-4610, YouTube and Twitch to be a part of
00:07the show.
00:08Your weekend's best, weekend's worst. Obviously, the AAU tournament on Saturday was maybe the worst of the weekend, but there
00:19are other candidates that I can go to.
00:22But I'll start in good spirits, weekend's best. You know, shout out to our guys, Reggie and John Lopez, who
00:36are really into it, and a lot of people.
00:37And the watch party, we were broadcasting, we were kind of the calm before the storm, broadcasting before it went
00:44down on Friday.
00:46And congrats to Tyler, because this was his team in the pool. And that is the performance, my weekend's best
00:51Friday night, the performance of Team USA as they just beat the brakes off of Clint's team, Paraguay.
01:03By the way, they beat them 4-1 in dominating fashion. And I ain't gonna lie, I was getting into
01:12it.
01:12But we had it on at the house, and everybody was getting into it. The boys were getting into it.
01:19They were jumping, checking the score. I mean, it was a good 90-plus minutes, not that long a time.
01:27They didn't lose a lot of interest. I mean, Lauren didn't give a rip, but the boys were into it,
01:32and it was fun.
01:33I was into it the whole way. And had them and the Astros and Royals on another TV there and
01:40another screen, and it was good.
01:42But congratulations to Team USA and the performance they put together. And I'll be honest, I'm not gonna sit here
01:48and say I know a ton about all these countries and where they rank and how good teams are.
01:58I'm sorry, boy. If you get beat down like that by Team USA, by Team USA, all that I've heard
02:02is, I don't know, this ain't one of their better teams.
02:06Hey, man, you must either have had a real bad night or you really suck the way they just dominated
02:11your ass.
02:11So Team USA, shout out to them, as they are my weekend's best.
02:15Yeah, I didn't catch much of the game, but I'm always here for a Team USA win, no doubt about
02:22it.
02:23What's your weekend's best?
02:25Weekend's best is gonna be Jalen Brunson. I don't know any other way to put it.
02:28I mean, just, you know, to be a guy that's traded away from the organization, what an awful move that
02:38is, right?
02:38It makes the Luka move look even worse when you realize they let Brunson go, too.
02:42But, you know, that move, you told, for whatever reason, you're too small, you know, to go out there and
02:49be the reason that you, you know, that your organization goes and wins a championship.
02:55And, you know, I just think it's a beautiful thing.
02:59He did it with two of his college teammates, right?
03:02That's pretty cool, won a championship in college, and then they win a championship here.
03:05Did it with his dad on the sideline or on the bench.
03:10Did it with, you know, scoring 45 points in a game where, I mean, the hell of the game was
03:15under 100 points.
03:15Both teams under 100 points.
03:17He goes out there and scores 45, puts a team on his back on a night when the others weren't
03:22real impressive, obviously, on his side.
03:25He just, he put the team on his back and went and got it done.
03:27And there's just very likable dude.
03:30I mean, you hear him talk in the media afterwards just, I mean, so mellow, it's almost like it's too
03:36good to be true.
03:37I love the Jalen Brunson vibe.
03:41It's fun watching him play, obviously.
03:44So, yeah, this weekend, man, there was a lot of good.
03:47I got a lot of good going on, but Jalen Brunson and him getting that championship.
03:52Obviously, first championship was 53 years in New York.
03:55He can do whatever he wants in that city.
03:57Absolutely.
03:58And that's a hell of a city to be able to do whatever the hell you want in.
04:01You're damn right.
04:02That is, that's big.
04:04Like, he's going to go down.
04:08I think, I didn't know I was going to do this, Tyler, but you start thinking about, like, the biggest
04:16stars in New York of recent memory.
04:18Not Babe Ruth.
04:19But, like, maybe Jeter's number one.
04:24Jeter.
04:25A-Rod.
04:25Judge.
04:25I don't think A-Rod.
04:27But maybe Judge had won a championship, maybe.
04:33Eli winning two championships, two MVPs, and beating Brady.
04:39Lawrence Taylor.
04:41Like, some of the, I'm sure, Mark Messier with the Rangers, the hockey team.
04:47There's Jalen Brunson.
04:49Honest to God, I think because of how much New York loves basketball, Patrick Ewing probably is in it.
04:57Because of how much.
04:57I mean, I feel like he may go up right behind Jeter.
05:01Like, I feel like it may be.
05:04Right now, he's up there.
05:05There's no doubt about it.
05:06I mean, he is.
05:07And the thing, you mentioned Jeter.
05:09It's crazy.
05:10The temperament seems similar.
05:11You know what I mean?
05:12Cool, calm, collected.
05:13Yeah.
05:14Not a lot of emotion shown.
05:16Very, very likable dudes.
05:19To a point where almost, some people may want more fireworks and more, you know, expression, more emotions.
05:29And you just don't get it.
05:30They're so even keel.
05:31So, yeah, I mean, I'm just a fan, man.
05:33I mean, I've always liked him because you don't have to watch him long to see that.
05:37I've always liked him, but I wouldn't say I was ever a fan.
05:42I mean, I'll tune into Nick's basketball moving forward just to get a little taste of Jalen Brunson.
05:48All right, weekend's best.
05:50Or, I mean, weekend's worst.
05:52My weekend's worst, Clint, is also coming from Friday night.
05:55The same time that that Team USA match was happening.
06:00I'm not kidding you, Clint and Tyler.
06:02That had to be the worst first inning and the worst performance by a pair of starting pitchers in MLB
06:10history.
06:13Emai for the Astros and Avila for the Royals.
06:17They combined for 87 pitches thrown in the first inning.
06:21Just those two because neither one of them made it out.
06:24So, there were more pitches thrown by Mason Black and Okert.
06:28But those two combined to throw for 87 pitches, 13 earned runs, four walks, both teams batted around on their
06:39asses, one strikeout in that.
06:41It was awful.
06:439-5 coming out of the first inning.
06:46And I'll be honest with you, Emai's was more disappointing because you knew you were up 9-0.
06:56And he kept starting off behind a count.
07:01Like, nibbling, he wasn't.
07:02I was listening to the Royals broadcast.
07:04I think I sent this to you.
07:06Denny Matthews has been, he is like Mark Vandermeer except the Royals have been there longer.
07:10He is the only broadcaster they have had.
07:14Since the team came out in the 60s, he has been the broadcaster.
07:17Good God.
07:18He said, guys, he's got to have one leg in the grave, right?
07:21No, he just got married for the first time this past year.
07:23How old is he?
07:25He's 70-something.
07:27Denny didn't even play in the field.
07:29He lasted longer than me, didn't he?
07:29He lasted way longer than you.
07:32My friend said, I've never seen Denny this happy.
07:35Spring training.
07:36But, no, he said, if he walks Bobby Witt Jr., I think Joe Espada is going to walk out there
07:44and strangle Emai for coming out the way he did.
07:48And I thought to myself, well, Denny, you don't know Joe.
07:50Yeah, there ain't no doubt.
07:52And D don't know.
07:52But neither one of them out of the first thing.
07:54It was ridiculous.
07:55I was getting mad at everybody.
07:57Like, come on, man.
07:58This is utterly ridiculous.
07:59So that is my weekend's worst, the two starting pitchers in that Astros-Royals game.
08:05My weekend's worst is another Brunson.
08:09And it's Jalen Brunson's daddy, who happens to be a coach for the Knicks.
08:13So he's in the middle of it, which is a really, really cool reality for them, all joking aside.
08:21But I don't know if you all saw this, but there's obviously a conversation out there
08:25about Jalen Brunson being the best Knick ever.
08:28I think Big Perk may have brought that up.
08:31Big Perk.
08:32Or one of the guys, one of the former players brought it up and said,
08:34Hey, there's no doubt, Jalen Brunson's the best Knick to ever play.
08:38That sounds like Kendrick.
08:40I think Perk said it.
08:41And then after he put up 45, he obviously stood up and yelled it from the top of the mountain.
08:46So anyway, that's a topic.
08:48I think it made its way to most of the talk shows.
08:50And Jalen and his pops went on with Shaq and Kenny inside the NBA after they won.
08:59And I want you to listen in closely to this audio.
09:02And I purposefully played more than just the part about Jalen Brunson
09:07because I want you to see how almost uncalled for it is right here.
09:12This is Jalen Brunson's dad on set of Inside the NBA.
09:16I'd say Shaq was the greatest free agent sign.
09:19He was.
09:20Yeah, but he was the number one pick in the draft.
09:23And you expected him to be.
09:25I mean, he left.
09:26He was the only one.
09:27And I'm going to stop the argument, too.
09:29I love my son.
09:31Patrick Garner, the best Knick that I've ever witnessed.
09:34Oh, I didn't say that.
09:35No, I just want people to like, you know.
09:38Well, I'm going to say it's going to be debatable.
09:40It could be debatable.
09:41No, no, no.
09:41It's going to be debatable now because the other thing, you know,
09:45what he has done is he has ignited a culture that was not lit.
09:52And he went on to talk about the culture and how he's changed.
09:54Like the Knicks were basically just dead before Jalen got there,
09:57which is very, very true, and he's clearly the leader.
09:58But was that shot as uncalled for as I thought it was?
10:03Like he was talking about Shaq.
10:04We weren't even talking about that.
10:06He moved to Patrick Ewing on his own.
10:09He just threw that out.
10:10I'm going to tell you what, man.
10:11Nobody addressed him.
10:12Look, I'm going to tell you what.
10:13I know Jalen don't give a rip, but damn, Dad.
10:16I mean, that's about as uncalled for as it gets, man.
10:18Just say you ain't got no comment.
10:21The thing is, Jalen had them damn post-game goggles on,
10:24so you couldn't see if he was pissed off or not.
10:26I'm sure he's pissed, but I think Rick is still working on his son.
10:32Hey, you ain't getting a big head around here.
10:34You got a lot to do.
10:35You got a lot to do for you.
10:36You get to Patrick Ewing's level.
10:37He's working on next year already for.
10:39It is clear, Clint, just by that cut,
10:43it is clear the kind of fathering and coaching that this man has instilled.
10:49You think he's hard on his son?
10:50Hard on his boy?
10:52Yeah.
10:52What do you think some of them AAU games are like?
10:54He's put up 36 and he gets in the car.
10:57God dog it.
10:58Right there.
10:59Right there.
10:59You didn't call out that pick.
11:04I mean, small stuff Rick's been in.
11:06His name, you know what?
11:07His name ain't even Rick.
11:09His name is Eric Daniel.
11:10Who's that?
11:11Is his daddy's name?
11:12Yeah, just Rick is a nickname.
11:14He ain't a Brunson?
11:14How do you get a nickname that's like a real nod?
11:18Eric Daniel Rick Brunson.
11:20Oh, okay.
11:21He's got a real nickname.
11:26Like Tyler's nickname would just be Ed.
11:30How'd you know?
11:31Hey, if you wanted to pick him, man, go ahead.
11:32Frank.
