00:00buddy we are getting basketball in the nba finals we i mean i think that we might have seen and
00:07maybe i'll ask this a question uh did we watch the the i don't know is that the worst collapse
00:15that we've seen well this is this is how i put it and i put it very deliberately i didn't
00:20say
00:20the greatest game ever the biggest choke ever because it was both i called it the most memorable
00:25game the most it's the most memorable nba finals game in history where does it rank for you you're
00:32saying the most memorable game that i've so we're talking about game 16 lebron james chase down yes
00:39we're talking with a 2013 ray allen corner three-pointer with what game was that game six
00:44yep corner three-pointer you're all of those all those and all great and you know you triple
00:50over times in in the 80s yes all that but go back to the hell go back to the bird
00:54days and
00:55and the lakers days uh incredible games chase downs and big shots and magic johnson's baby hooks and
01:01all that stuff maybe maybe you can argue greater and i won't argue with you but michael jordan shot
01:07jordan the floater utah you know what was it utah yeah utah's final oh yeah yeah utah was the finals
01:14uh all those are great i'm not going to argue if you say they're greater but this was the most
01:18memorable
01:18because it was absolutely both things it was an epic epic choke but it also was an epic comeback
01:27yeah epic performance 713-572-4610 this is real sports takey or sports uh talky i guess the way
01:35yeah is this more a spurs loss or a or a nicks win yes to me to me now you
01:40can argue and i'm not
01:41gonna argue with you yeah but i'll make cases for both you can make cases for both let's do it
01:45yeah because the spurs were stupid like a fox uh that is the writer in it you know what
01:53that's good that's good i got it that's good i hope he's not leasing the san antonio or uh
01:58buying the san antonio i hope he's renting by the way uh john lopez run him out for today
02:05maybe for the rest of the finals you ain't the og i'm not the og is og and i know
02:10i could have made
02:10that play nah which one which one well and i'm glad you brought that up because oh well you know
02:15what i'll get to that about why both okay because first the bad the bad dearon fox yes stupid play
02:23after stupid play after stupid play you talked about it during cross but one thing did this one
02:28thing made as figgy was saying you know i hope you're renting uh it was all you had to do
02:35dude
02:36was turn left instead of right when you got that steal and you're going down court and you see og
02:41on
02:41an ob coming instead of turning right and trying to lay up against a by the way all defensive team
02:46player who's a foot taller than you thereabouts uh instead of turning right hey you know what take
02:52a left here take a left here start dribbling that was an absolute choke now he choked in several other
02:58different ways it was 12 seconds the shot clock is off at that point you have a one plus you
03:03have a
03:05free throw right what he got to lose nothing he was well and then afterwards he said well i wanted
03:08to get a three-point lead you can get a three-point lead with a free throw yeah and yeah
03:13he said that
03:13he thought he thought he could outrun og in that moment which i think that's actually a fair thought
03:18in that moment the problem is the bigger thought needs to be all right let's let's play let's play
03:23the numbers game on this let's let's run out the time and this the the bigger issue on that front
03:28for
03:28me is more that he's supposed to be the veteran type guy now he's not the most veteran guy on
03:33the
03:33team obviously i think that would go more to harrison barnes but harrison barnes not in the
03:37rotation right now right and the not not only is that supposed to be his role right now that has
03:41been his role with this team all year long we've talked about this uh when it comes to the spurs
03:45deron fox is the guy who helped settle them in the moments where they are uh where they are kind
03:49of
03:50cratering where they're tilted and that was what this game was in the second half uh shout out to
03:55rockets fans who i imagine shape the spurs if for no other nothing less than uh we ain't we not
04:01going to hear nothing from those spurs fans about 27 threes because my god they kept taking and
04:05missing yeah well that's the other thing but but back to the first point on fox and you touched on
04:10it uh the point guard whether you're a veteran or a rookie or whatever is supposed to know time
04:16and circumstance ahead of everyone else on the floor right he didn't know time and he didn't know
04:20circumstance right uh then you have the shot chart i would highly recommend go back and look at
04:26the shot chart let's see first half second half i want to say the spurs had 16 or 18 makes
04:35inside
04:35the three-point line in the first half they had four in the second is that good that is not
04:41good
04:42that that's that's a choke wamby three or four now he deserves credit you know because he makes so
04:47many free throws but three or four misses at the free throw line late that's a choke uh you know
04:51he
04:52like he wanted no parts of it but now let's get to the good stuff sometimes the right person makes
04:58the the heroic play og and anobi flat out kept them in this game and it got to 29 but
05:06kept it you know
05:07they brought it back down to 20 ish you know thereabouts and if it wasn't for og and anobi they
05:12they wouldn't have been able to make that sorry i just looked at the shot yeah the shot chart is
05:15the
05:15first thing i looked at sick i think it's 16 or 18 inside three point now some of them were
05:19foot on the
05:20line kind of stuff still jumpers but still 16 i think and then four uh and then so og and
05:27anobi
05:27deserved to be the guy that crashed and made that point he kept them in the game that was heroic
05:32effort
05:32uh in a sports term there was a point in time where because the he had their bigs in foul
05:38trouble at
05:38least carl anthony early on mitchell robinson wasn't as effective as he has been in other portions of the
05:43series og and anobi was playing big right which is already a tough thing to do except the big he's
05:49playing against the seven four right like they've been fighting to keep that dude off the glass and
05:54out of the paint for all series long and og and anobi obviously notably for a shorter amount of time
05:59was capable of doing that to some extent actually getting some rebounds in those moments and then
06:03on top of that he's still one of the best shot makers right now he's his shot making right now
06:08is
06:08insane i think his true shooting percentage is somewhere in the 60s or 70s that's what i'm saying he
06:12deserved it if you're going to be a hero in new york for the rest of your life that's the
06:16guy that that
06:17should be it because he kept them there the other thing jalen brunson just absolutely you know
06:22spectacular in the second half uh and and then again the next defense the next defense they they
06:29didn't crater they could have easily just mailed it in in the second half so it was an absolute
06:34epic choke and an absolute epic comeback biggest story for you in this uh as you know obviously your
06:39journalism man you're this is the way that you think about these things of sports because you've
06:43been conditioned to do that through years of journalism and such because i think for me when
06:47maybe not the biggest story but one that i think is obviously not going to be considered as much
06:52because of the nature of us watching sports we're going to talk about the guys on the court this felt
06:56like a coaching disparity and i won't even say like in capability but just an experience i think i saw
07:02a
07:02mike brown that was able to keep his squad steady and honestly the entirety of the squad has a level
07:06of
07:06experience they've been in these places they were able to stay steady when they're down 27 and a half
07:10down 29 in the second half and just go cut it to this place keep keep clawing as opposed to
07:17johnson
07:17was looking at a spurs team continuing to flounder and not capable of getting them out of that rut not
07:22capable of making those counter adjustments that clearly the knicks made to take i mean because the
07:26spurs they were taking a whole bunch of threes and i know that the ideas get downhill the knicks did
07:30force them into some of that they did that's what i'm saying their defense that's why it's both
07:34i would put a slight twist on that uh on what you just said i i wouldn't i don't think
07:39i always ask
07:40myself as you know what's the story you know what is the story outside of the what happened
07:45the what happened is the erin fox and all those things we just talked about the story to me is
07:49the new york knicks have just a smidge like between your fingernails if you're pinching you're holding
07:55your fingers together okay better grit if you want to call it grit experience if you want to call it
08:03experience that special something if you want to call it that just like a tiny bit more across the
08:10board uh you know they were the spurs were young and the knicks were veteran the spurs the spurs
08:17easily could be up three to one and that's not an exaggeration they they were up 12 14 in game
08:22one
08:2212 in game two 29 in game four you can bring this down to two plays yeah you bring this
08:27down to
08:27wimby turnover in game was game two yeah and then you could bring this down to deer and fox uh
08:32i guess
08:34unwillingness to uh to pull out on that uh fast break those two likely shift those series shift this
08:39series by a whole two games yeah and and and as you're looking at your fingers and the fingernails
08:43between that also counts that also applies to coaching i think mitch johnson is is a very very very
08:50good coach agreed i think that people are going a little far on mitch johnson now and being like oh
08:54man
08:54they shouldn't have even put him in this look at where they they are when we're expected to win
08:58what 50 games or something like that this year 52 games uh along those lines so he's done an
09:03incredible job they they have been in these games they go on the road and and win one and are
09:07up 29
09:07in the other i think he's a very very good good coach but that little something is hey why are
09:14you
09:14allowing the game to speed up so quickly in the second half why are you why is your shot selection
09:21you know completely abysmal when in the first three minutes of the second half you should have
09:25called that time out and said guys drive to the basket drive and kick or drive and shoot so just
09:32that little tiny something and i gotta tell you that last play that mitch johnson drew up was perfect
09:38oh it was absolutely perfect it got tipped got tipped by uh speaking of fingernails by uh just a little
09:45bit by by carl anthony towns so yeah just like tiny tiny edge across the board the next half
