01:50But you know what to stop plans?
01:52A $22,500 fine.
01:56You know what else could really stop your plans?
02:00Five years imprisonment and suspension on your license for three years.
02:05Don't drink and drive.
02:24Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago.
02:26And to our international audience, this is Beyond the Tape.
02:29I'm your host, Whitney Husbands.
02:31Not a way to enter a brand new week where we're seeing an innocent life being taken away.
02:37When are we going to stop interfering and taking the innocent lives of our children of Trinidad?
02:45And to be good, the question is always why.
02:47Why are we here once again?
02:50Unnecessarily.
02:50Now, we're seeing over the weekend where a 12-year-old's life was innocently taken away.
02:57And we are mourning the death of a 12-year-old Mercedes Lane who was reported missing on Saturday, 6th
03:03of June.
03:04And her body was found in the Erring area.
03:07And to give us more information and discussion on this around this sad situation, once again, condolences to the family.
03:14This is not a way that anyone will want to imagine seeing a young, bright, prosperous life before us taken
03:22away from such an evil individual.
03:25We have Captain Rambrot here with us this evening to discuss this and more.
03:29Good evening to you, sir.
03:30A pleasant good evening, Whitney, and a pleasant good evening to our viewers on Big Beyond the Tape.
03:35I myself am still in shock at the development over the weekend.
03:41I tell you this.
03:42I was the principal of the school's next daughter, Erin Arcee.
03:47So I know the entire community down there.
03:51And when this occurred, I reflected on the fact that as the principal, I would stay back and watch every
03:59child who had to catch a taxi to get home.
04:03You know, and take the numbers, ensure that I knew the drivers, and make sure that they got home safely.
04:10But it crossed my mind because things could happen in any given situation.
04:16But her uncle is a close friend of Hunter's search and rescue team.
04:21So around 5 p.m. on Saturday, we got a distress call from him.
04:27He indicated immediately that this was an abduction and not the stereotypic runaway female teenager.
04:36And that raised a red flag with us, and we were able to get down there quickly by about 6
04:42.30 p.m.
04:43But the thing about it is that when we got there, the entire area was already flooded with police vehicles.
04:50And it was not just a question of presence.
04:54They were doing work, and they engaged the hunter's search and rescue team.
04:59They assigned tasks to us to begin switching some of the roads in the area.
05:05And so from, I would say, from about 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. the next morning, the area
05:12was very active, trying to see how much ground we could cover.
05:18At the same time, they were also canvassing for CCTV footage.
05:23So by, I would say, around 8 p.m. that night, we knew what vehicle was involved in this incident.
05:30And that allowed us to begin, you know, step up the search and we could find a vehicle is easy
05:37in some back road or so.
05:39And so the next morning, of course, Trinidad and Tobigo woke up to the sad news that, you know, Mercedes
05:48Lane, but it was found in an oil field area in Carapal Road in Irin.
05:55This area is well known to us.
05:58And, in fact, the team was heading there the sad morning to conduct a search in Carapal Road.
06:05But, I mean, Tina's worker with an oil company who had got there early and spotted the body.
06:11But, I want to revisit this situation because I know the uncle personally and what he said is that she
06:18was accustomed, being by the grandfather and being placed into one of those private hired cars to take her to
06:25her mother's home, which is just about three to four driving minutes away.
06:30So this was something that played off.
06:32Another thing is that the driver and the vehicle was familiar with persons in the area.
06:41So, you know, it's a question of really who you could trust now and what went on in that person's
06:49head.
06:49Now, Captain, not with this situation because it is a sensitive one.
06:53And with children, even though, as you mentioned before, we just don't know what could happen, where predators are concerned,
07:00even though they may be familiar to us in the communities.
07:04But it seems like it's a culture in the Caribbean itself and in Trinidad and Tabibu, which we see even
07:11during my time, where we allow our children to either walk to the shop at a very young age, travel
07:17from a very, very young age, and not have adult company.
07:20Yeah, and I think we have to improve on that because the thing is what you got away with long
07:26time, it can't happen to you.
07:27You have to safeguard your children, make them hard targets, and therefore the responsibility on parents now is immense.
07:36Because, you know, you have to do more work in terms of keeping your child protected at all times.
07:43But coming back to the issue of crime and criminality and children, these are four children we would have lost
07:50for 2026.
07:51So in the Belmont, can't kill them.
07:54In less than, what, two months?
07:56Yeah, tit for tat, you had, I know you had Jalen Armstrong and baby Akini, and then you had baby
08:04Angelo in the baby.
08:06Angelo in the baby.
08:06And then to come and feast this, I mean, I think we have to draw the line in the sun
08:11and say,
08:14to whosoever is doing this, that we've drawn a line in the sun, and you're not going to get any
08:19more of our children.
08:21We have to revisit the principle of protecting our children by all means necessary.
08:27And the country has to stand up and say clearly, we're not going to allow this to happen, leave our
08:33children out of crime and criminality.
08:36And we're not going to compromise on that at all.
08:39You know, some people will say when we cross over into that line where we are seeing children's lives being
08:44taken away, we have gone now, eh?
08:47Yeah, we've gone now.
08:48I had a conversation, I don't know, I was in Jamaica for a short holiday, over the weekend.
08:53And I was having a conversation with three young men, and we spoke about the gang activity in Trinidad and
09:00compared it to that in Jamaica.
09:02And I raised this with them when I asked, I said, are your children, do they go after the children
09:08in terms of the gang wars and children murdered on the island?
09:13And they said, no, we wouldn't accept that.
09:16And we're seeing it creeping into our culture now, and we have to say no.
09:20We have to put a stop date and say the vast majority of us do not want you all to
09:27interfere with our children.
09:28Well, it seems like the demons are getting even more vicious, and they are craving more of the blood and
09:35the blood of our children.
09:36And this is a sad state to be in at this time.
09:39Just to give you all some quick information from the TTPS media release with regards to the discovery of the
09:46beautiful angel who was taken away from us, 12-year-old Mercedes Lane.
09:49A suspect is in custody following the discovery of a missing girl.
09:53A 26-year-old man is currently in police custody as investigators continue inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death
10:01of 12-year-old Mercedes Lane of Losirios Irene,
10:05whose body was discovered on Sunday 7th, June 2026, hours after she was reported missing.
10:11Now, Mercedes was reported missing at approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday 6th, June 2026, by her grandfather.
10:19According to the report, around 11.30 a.m., on the same date, the grandfather placed his daughter,
10:26whose granddaughter, that is, who had spent the previous night at his residence, into a vehicle intended to be transporting
10:33the child to the home in Losirios Beach Road, Irene.
10:38However, information later received indicated that Mercedes never arrived at her destination.
10:43The girl's mother subsequently went to Eriean Police Station along with the child's grandfather,
10:49and a missing person investigation was immediately launched.
10:54Investigations or investigators, with that led by Sergeant Jaglal, conducted intensive and extensive inquiries throughout the night,
11:04acting on information received, and after reviewing the CCTV footage, officers identified the vehicle in which the child had last
11:12been seen traveling.
11:13At approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday 7th, June 2026, the vehicle was located and abandoned along Beach Road.
11:22It was photographed, processed, and conveyed to the Eriean Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.
11:29So, I understand the officers, they came out, the residents spoke in the way in which they responded to the
11:36information being received,
11:38where the child was missing, and they were on the ground running.
11:41Yes, and I could confirm that.
11:43In fact, we wrote an open letter to the Commissioner of Police, commanding the officers.
11:49They were on the ground quick, and to have a suspect in custody in less than 24 hours is excellent
11:56police work, right?
11:57And, um, not only that, they would have achieved closure on behalf of the family.
12:03I mean, there's a sad part, but the officers worked throughout the night to get, you know, all that they
12:09needed to have a suspect in custody.
12:12All right, so the TTPS continues to work extremely hard.
12:15Captain, we get ready to dive into our missions for today.
12:18Yeah, well, we had that mission, and then sometime, I believe, earlier on Saturday,
12:22because Saturday was a tough Friday night into Saturday was tough for us as well.
12:27A crab catcher from Cooper went missing, I don't want to disclose his name,
12:31but we were called out about 9 p.m. the night.
12:35He didn't return home, and we went together with the family and worked throughout the night,
12:43and we were able to locate him next morning by about 8 a.m.
12:49Actually, on that Saturday, we had three back-to-back searches,
12:54and we had one for the crab catcher.
12:58We went on a cold case that I don't want to talk about on air.
13:02Okay.
13:03And then while they were on the cold case, they were called to head down to Aireen
13:08and, you know, take the search into two nights.
13:12So I think the team did excellent work, but, you know,
13:17we respond to these to help families when their loved ones go missing.
13:23Now, Captain, I'm sure you were able to see where persons tried their best over the week
13:27where the peace walk was concerned and persons wanting to come together
13:32and make Trinidad and Tobago a safer place.
13:36And over the weekend, we also saw persons coming together,
13:39but it seems like the peace is not really one that is resonating with many of us
13:44throughout the island because, with that being said,
13:47there was an incident that took place in Maryland, Mount Doe,
13:51a triple murder at Upper 7th Avenue, Malik, on Friday afternoon.
13:57And this is where we're saying, where's really the peace?
14:01Yeah, you know, I don't want to throw a cold water on the efforts of those who think,
14:06but efforts have been made in the past and promises were made
14:10and they were never kept.
14:11And when you see a triple murder, you know that's almost likely to be gang-related.
14:17And so, you know, the conduct of the criminals has not stopped at all.
14:24And you're quite right, you can't be talking peace here and you have a triple murder on this end.
14:29Yes.
14:30I think, you know, they have to revisit the peace and come good.
14:35If you want to engage the police officers, you know, engage them
14:40and talk to them about probably peace.
14:43But to just bring people together and say you have a peace march
14:47doesn't sound reasonable to me.
14:50Now, there was another incident that took place in the Mongdor area as well, Chamflair.
14:55And this took place on Friday night.
14:58And this was disturbing.
15:00This was all over social media.
15:01And I'm not going to lie.
15:03The way in which, if you listen to the audio and you see the reaction of individuals,
15:07it's not like you're heartbroken to what is happening in front of you.
15:11It's more so persons are fascinated and they want to get the information out there first
15:16to show what they witnessed.
15:19That is scary.
15:20Yeah, it's scary.
15:22But the thing is, they've also become numb to seeing these things on social media.
15:27And, you know, it's no problem for them just to run up.
15:31They can, you know, capture.
15:32Yes.
15:32In fact, that's typical of the behavior of persons.
15:36They don't express sorrow.
15:38There's no crying.
15:39And their reaction to these things are different.
15:43I agree with you that, you know, compassion and doing the right thing at this time,
15:53trying to get emergency help for the occupants of the vehicle would be my first response.
15:58To save life, right?
15:59To save life.
16:00And also in the Valencia area, they discovered a body, a burnt body inside a vehicle.
16:05And that was along Munan Road.
16:07And, again, we are hoping that we are able to gather information, assist to bring closure
16:13to the families with these situations that are taking place.
16:16Right now, it's time for us to take a look at our SOE update as of June 8, 2026.
16:24Number of operations, 7,125.
16:27Number of targets prior to offenders, 2,046.
16:32Searches conducted, 3,114.
16:34Traffic operations, 4,239.
16:38Total persons arrested, 3,196.
16:42Total persons charged, 690.
16:46Firearms recovered, we're seeing an increase with the pistols once again, giving us a total of 183.
16:52Ammunition recovered, we're seeing an increase with the 9mm, the 12 gauge, also the 5.56,
16:59and the 7.62, and that's a total of 3,464.
17:05And dangerous drug sees, we're seeing an increase with cannabis and cocaine, Captain.
17:10Right, and you're seeing the searches being conducted, and you're seeing the results of firearm recovered, ammunition, and narcotics.
17:16I know there's a debate about extending it, I support the SOE.
17:21Not for the fact that it's a crime-fighting tool, per se, but there are things about the SOE that
17:29gives the Trinan-Tobago Police Service that advantage to get out there and search.
17:36All right, right now let's take a look at what's making today's headlines.
18:21And those are your stories making today's headlines.
18:23Remember, you can give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 and 1997.
18:29We take that break, we'll be back.
18:45Welcome to Holiday Inn Express and Sousa.
18:49Do enjoy this, Lisa.
18:51Thanks.
18:53You want some coffee?
18:56Can I have a good one?
18:58Yeah.
19:02Perfect, man.
19:13Whatever you're here for, we're here for you.
19:17Stay smart at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites.
19:28Plumbing problems?
19:30Don't guess.
19:32Call Plumbing Solutions at 628-4646.
19:36Proud to be serving Trinan-Tobago for over 20 years.
19:40We do it all.
19:50We are licensed and insured.
19:54So call Plumbing Solutions at 628-4646.
20:24It's not a thrill when your speed can kill.
20:44Welcome, Mark.
20:45And of course, if you're now joining us, we have Captain Rambrat here with us, who is always
20:49here to give us information and guidance to bring closure to our families of Trinidad and
20:54Tobago.
20:55So, Captain, where are we at with missing persons?
20:56All right.
20:57So for June thus far, today is the 7th of June.
21:01We just had four reports of missing persons.
21:04Well, of course, early in the program, we would have gone through the issue with Mercedes
21:10Lane and the entire episode that transpired over Saturday and Sunday.
21:16And so her body was recovered.
21:18And then we still have outstanding Javon George.
21:23Javon George, his mental health is compromised.
21:28And he went to Tobago with his family on the weekend to attend a christening.
21:34And they were supposed to catch the boat from Tobago to return to Trinidad today.
21:42And last night, he wandered off.
21:45And he could not be found up to press time.
21:49So our members in Tobago, well, I think what we're seeing on the screen, let me just explain
21:54this quickly.
21:54This is the crab catcher.
21:56We didn't get the video up on the screen when I spoke about that mission.
22:00And so this is the concerned relatives, you know, in the Cali Bay area in Coover.
22:07There's him changing there when he was found.
22:12This is our member, Hulk, you know, who headed the mission there in the Cali Bay district.
22:18And I'll tell you something about a crab catcher having to stay overnight in that swamp
22:23because it's in the swamp covered with sand flies and everything.
22:28I just want to say thanks to the guys who went.
22:30They performed admirably because our swamps are not easy terrain to trek in the night.
22:39And, you know, they had even engaged a boat, you know, just in case they needed it.
22:44But hats off to the guys for that mission.
22:48And I was speaking about J. Von George.
22:51So his mental health is compromised.
22:53And he went to Tobago and looking for the poster to come up.
22:57But he hasn't been found.
23:01So if you're into the Tobago area, in Tobago, and you are in the Boko area,
23:08please look out for J. Von George.
23:10Hopefully before the program is completed we can get his post-stop.
23:15But please call any one of your Tobago police stations or 799-1453 if you spot him walking around.
23:26His mother is there and she's very, very distraught.
23:30They were supposed to return home today.
23:32It is sad.
23:34And we're seeing with the weather conditions also, Captain, where persons may be looking to venture.
23:39I saw persons over the weekend saying, you know, they're going to the beaches because they're wearing the groceries.
23:45But what could we again tell individuals at this time where we're seeing a lot of rainfall?
23:50Yeah, and we urge you to become weather conscious.
23:53The weather is published every morning by the Trinidad and Tobago Met Office.
23:57We as well, we post the weather every single morning.
24:00And if it is that you know that there's bad weather coming in and the forecast is for rainfall,
24:06please stay away from the beaches or the rivers.
24:10Because now is the time to be very cautious going to our rivers because the water can rise at any
24:17moment without you knowing it.
24:19Yes.
24:19You know, in Trinidad and Tobago in particular, Captain, we based our going to the beach, the sun outside, so
24:27we could go.
24:28Yes, and you're not sure what's happening in another part of the Northern Range where rain is falling.
24:34And when you get there, you don't detect that there's a rising water level.
24:38With a rising water level, come increased depth as well as an additional push down river.
24:45Those two are things that you should note and be aware of and try not to take your family to
24:53the beaches unless you scan the entire weather report.
24:56Quick question, Captain.
24:58What does it mean when you go into the beach and the water feels warm?
25:02Is that a sign that you need to pay attention to in any way?
25:06No, no, a warm beach is great to be on.
25:10I mean, you have an agitated water as it becomes cool, right?
25:16Warm water means that there is sunshine and the water temperature has risen and there's a good time to have
25:22a bath.
25:23But if it's cold, like not too much freezing, but you're feeling the temperature.
25:27Coldness, one, there is probably a current moving around.
25:32Secondly, the waters are agitated and mixing and you have to be careful with that.
25:38So that means, from the time you feel that coldness, you should get out.
25:41You should get out, yeah.
25:42All right, we're taking that.
25:43Remember, you can give us a call at 623-1711-Extension-1996 and 1997.
25:49We'll take that short break.
25:50We'll be back.
26:04Upgrade your kitchen with the convenience and style of our Maxonic Top Mount refrigerators.
26:09With durable tempered glass shelves, you get strong, reliable storage for everything you need.

27:39Plus, I can't afford to pay another speeding ticket.
27:46A message from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
27:59And welcome back.
28:01Now, Captain, you could give us some more information on what's going on with Javon George.
28:04Yes, so the poster is up here now.
28:07Javon George is from Springfield, Claxton Bay.
28:11And as I indicated earlier, his mental health is compromised.
28:17His relatives, you know, went to Tobago to attend a christening over the weekend.
28:23And they were due to return home today.
28:27Last night, they stayed in the Buku, Tobago area.
28:30Last night, he wandered off during the night.
28:34And his mother, in particular, she's with him.
28:37She went with him.
28:38She's distraught.
28:39And up to the start of the program, you know, efforts are underway to try to locate Javon George.
28:46So if you're from the Buku, Mount Pleasant, you know, the Bethel area, please be on the lookout for Javon
28:52George.
28:53And call, you know, one of your police stations, Javon Road Police Station, or 999-555-800.
29:00Tips or our team at 799-1453.
29:05We need to get him home so that the family can return to Trinidad.
29:09Yes.
29:09All right.
29:10And we just have some information where your talk meeting is concerned in the Southern Division.
29:15So that is on at Tableland District.
29:17So persons in the district or in the environment itself, you could go.
29:22It is on on Thursday, the 18th of June.
29:25And it's taking place at Timberland Secondary School, George Village Tableland.
29:29And all you need to do is show up.
29:31It starts at 6 p.m.
29:32Come out and meet the officers in your district because you have the opportunity to let them know what is
29:38going on in your community to make your community a better and safer place.
29:43So we encourage the residents of Tableland to attend the town meeting.
29:48They're very, very informative.
29:49And you can ask questions.
29:51And if it is you made a report and you don't think that the report was handled well, you could
29:56raise the issue and they will respond.
29:58And, you know, give you some feedback as to this situation.
30:03Yes.
30:04So remember, you all could give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996 and 1997.
30:11We're going to head to the phone lines.
30:12And this time we have a caller.
30:14Caller.
30:14Good evening.
30:17Caller.
30:20Hello.
30:22Hello.
30:23Hi.
30:24Good evening.
30:24Hi.
30:24Good evening.
30:25Hi.
30:26Good evening.
30:27Captain.
30:29Good evening.
30:30If I can call you guys.
30:32Sure.
30:32No problem.
30:33Good evening.
30:33Do you have an update on the crew that they found at them today or anything like that?
30:40I didn't see the program.
30:42The young crew that they called.
30:45Mercedes.
30:46Mercedes.
30:47Mercedes Lane.
30:48Yes.
30:49So an autopsy was done on the body and the cause of that was blunt force trauma to the head.
30:55Yes.
30:56It's just so sad.
30:58Yes.
30:59Okay.
31:00I'll just give a little story.
31:02But I don't know about a young teenager or these teenagers.
31:06Some of them not responsible for the death.
31:08But they don't know about the people themselves when they go on the social media and whining and
31:14tearing on with the body.
31:16I told somebody to try the ground or someone take care of the death.
31:19They're with the same whining and let's do it.
31:22Anymore.
31:23Good evening.
31:24Have a good night.
31:25Okay.
31:26Good evening to you as well.
31:28Bye.
31:28All right.
31:28And that does not relate the statement to the incident.
31:32No.
31:32It's not related.
31:34But I think she's making a point.
31:35She's trying to give a piece of advice.
31:38Yes.
31:38However, notwithstanding your advice, it doesn't give the right to anyone to violate anyone.
31:48Yes.
31:49All right.
31:49Yeah.
31:50You know, we have to say that quickly because when people tune in on a certain time, they
31:53believe that that's what they heard and they put it together and they create their own
31:56story and that is how we have some issues.
31:59Now, Captain, I understand there was a tree planting initiative.
32:03And I always speak to the versatility of the team and I don't have to be involved.
32:08And I always make this point.
32:10It's a strong team.
32:12Yes.
32:13We're concerned about the environment.
32:14And as hunters, you know, I don't know, Whitney, if you support hunting or not.
32:20But I'm sure, having been on this program, you recognize the fact that hunters do give
32:26back a lot to Trinidad and Tobago.
32:28And even though we may reap from our nation's forests for a few months of the year, hunters
32:35all over this country, they always are engaged in some form.
32:40We are the first conservators of the forest and we also get involved in activities.
32:47So we had a tree planting down in the forest in Catskill there by Top Guns Content Group.
32:52And look at, she's cute.
32:54She attends all our events.
32:56And, you know, she's always there with her mother, Mala.
33:00And this is Ravi, our member there.
33:03He attended together with others.
33:05And they planted a tremendous, I believe it was 600 trees around the forest.
33:11And I'll tell you what the initiative is about.
33:14You have a drive up the North Coast, like the Arima Blanchise Road.
33:19And from time to time, you could stop and have a mango or pick a sapodilla.
33:24So this is what, this is complete forest in South Trinidad.
33:28And on the borders of the forest, we're trying to plant some fruit trees.
33:33So in time to come, it may be an eco-destination.
33:36You drive, you go with your family and you're able to pick fruits.
33:40Because I always admire those fruit trees.
33:44No, but Captain, I'm not going to ask you.
33:45You're sure we could do that next in that person's land?
33:48No, no.
33:50This is all state forest.
33:51Okay.
33:51All right.
33:52Okay.
33:52All right.
33:53I don't want anybody running out from the bushes.
33:55So you see, you could stop.
33:57You could see a breadfruit tree.
33:59There's a breadfruit tree there.
34:00Now, during the year, the hunters return.
34:04We clear the area, make sure there are no vines on the trees.
34:07So they could grow properly.
34:09And lastly, I wanted to show, hopefully, before tree planting is finished, we could show some
34:16of the fruits of our labor.
34:18That is, full-grown trees bearing things like cashmere and that type of thing.
34:23But hunters are always involved in giving back to Trinidad and Tobago.
34:27And we try our best to keep our environment safe.
34:33And what I love, I'm seeing a lot of young people.
34:36Yeah, young children involved.
34:38You know?
34:39Yes.
34:39And the children that are there.
34:41To bring out the children and, you know, do lots of things with them.
34:45Because you're learning, right?
34:46You're learning as you go along.
34:47You're learning as you go along.
34:48And we look at this young man there.
34:50He will remember.
34:51I remember him from last year.
34:53How many trees is that?
34:54How many trees?
34:54600 fruit trees.
34:56And these trees are sourced by hunters.
34:59We pay for them.
35:00Bring them to the venue.
35:02You have to clear this spot.
35:03It takes a long time.
35:06And, you know, that's why we get into initiatives like tree planting, beach cleanup.
35:10There's one coming up in Monroe.
35:12I like it so much.
35:12On the weekend, I will be there.
35:14Hunters again.
35:15And so they all engage in some sort of activity in the non-hunting period.
35:22And I think that is where you want us to be.
35:26We are responsible.
35:28We're not just taking without giving back.
35:31Now, hunters are very important.
35:32I think for those who may believe that you're not that important to be out there in the forest,
35:37it brings balance, right?
35:38Yeah, it's a sense of balance.
35:41And I'll tell you this.
35:42When you have to look for missing persons, whose tracks we use?
35:46We use the hunters tracks, right?
35:49So, and then there's no hunting, I think, in the port of spay industry.
35:53And, you know, and then over time we find that less young men and women are getting into the sport
36:01because it's very expensive.
36:03And so we could teach them other things like, you know,
36:07if you don't want to go into the forest, you could buy your air rifle and get into sport shooting.
36:13That's excellent.
36:14You have an R3 now and a lot of spin-off sports.
36:18And the key thing is you want your young people to become engaged, focused on some activity that they enjoy.
36:27Yes.
36:27That will take them through their lifetime with a lot of experiences.
36:31And at the end they become responsible citizens.
36:35And they wouldn't just take a car, drive it, pick up a 12-year-old and go.
36:39It's just...
36:41Now, speaking of that, we're not speaking because that incident is a sensitive one
36:46and it's, of course, being dealt with in the investigation purposes.
36:50But when it comes to PH drivers in persons, communities, because we know the PH drivers are needed.
36:59The trade is an illegal trade.
37:01You can twist it how much you want.
37:03But there are certain areas where taxis, maxi-taxis, the buses may not go.
37:10And because of the distance they need to get out, it's lanes, tracks, you name it.
37:14But what could persons do, not just, you know, we're seeing children placing them in cars,
37:19but adults because adults could be put at risk as well when dealing with PH drivers in particular.
37:25So an attempt was made to regularize the PH drivers, but that had some legal issues.
37:32Because in the law, it places a responsibility on the driver who is designated as a taxi driver.
37:41And he has the necessary insurance to cover his passengers in case of an accident.
37:47And he has a responsibility to conduct his profession in a professional way.
37:54With the PH drivers, you have no, and oh, one other thing.
37:59The taxi drivers, vehicles have to do a quality assurance with your station, your testing station, inspection stations, and so
38:10forth.
38:11Now with the PH, driver is totally unregulated.
38:16You don't know the condition of the vehicle that you are traveling.
38:20You don't know anything about the driver.
38:22He doesn't have a taxi badge display.
38:25And so that there's nothing that you could, you know, have to identify him.
38:31Also, the issue of insurance for passengers, there's a very, very important thing in transportation.
38:40And so I don't know if it could be resolved.
38:44It should be.
38:45Because it's happening.
38:47And I, at a point in time, travel in a PH vehicle because that was the only thing available to
38:53go to my destination.
38:55Yes.
38:55That's what I was supposed to do, walk or like.
38:57No, you have to use it because, because again, you know, the, the, the situation here.
39:02And I worked down there.
39:04Um, the major motor transport would be, you know, PH drivers.
39:09And they would probably make their trips in the morning with school children and persons going to work.
39:15They would go to other jobs during the day and try to finish up in time to make the evening
39:20trips.
39:20So, so it's what we call the side hustle.
39:24So, um, I know, but I think the key here is that traveling with PH drivers, who you know.
39:31And there's another thing going on because you don't stand by the road anymore.
39:36You know, you have your regular PH driver.
39:38Yes.
39:38He will come pick you up.
39:40Well, if you call a person.
39:40Yes.
39:41And they make the trip and thing.
39:42But the thing is, you have to know the person.
39:45Now, you know, there's, you could never know what is going on in a person's mind.
39:52Yes.
39:53And, and, and something could happen.
39:55And I'm not saying that it's only PH drivers.
39:58No, no, it could happen.
39:59That's a person who are committing heinous crimes on passengers.
40:02Because they're age drivers, I am sure, which we have seen also on social media, that are predators.
40:09And they target certain individuals.
40:12That is preference for them.
40:15I think Whitney's a national headache.
40:17Yes.
40:18And I'll tell you why.
40:18Well, I could just imagine what mothers and fathers go through when they have to get transportation for their children
40:26to go to and from school.
40:28I could imagine the thought process because you have to be asking them to take a picture of the vehicle.
40:34Every time you, you get into one, you get the number plate, your parents will be on the phone.
40:40Where are you now?
40:41Yes.
40:41What time would you, are you expected to arrive home?
40:44I think generally parents are keen, key dean on this.
40:49And it's really security for security.
40:51And as if parents could afford a phone for their child.
40:54And it comes with an expense.
40:55With an expense.
40:56And then the other thing is that when you're in a vehicle, you're really trapped in a prison technically because
41:02that's the owner's vehicle.
41:04He could switch, you know, click the locks, make sure you're in there, wind up the glasses, put on the
41:11loud music.
41:12Nobody will hear you screaming or shouting for help.
41:15And so there's risk all around with it.
41:18But the counter to that also is to try to improve public transport.
41:24Yes.
41:25State sponsored.
41:26Public transport.
41:28Of course, we have so many, I guess, ideas that we could put forth to find a way, but we
41:33need the funding to also.
41:34It will cost, it will cost money.
41:36Yes.
41:37But there's no price to the life of our children.
41:40Exactly.
41:40And the lives of us.
41:41And you have to do what you have to do to protect them.
41:43Yes.
41:43Most importantly.
41:45All right.
41:45We need to take that break.
41:46When we come back, we'll continue with more.
41:54Go.
41:55Go.
41:57Go.
41:58Go.

42:59What you can't see from this image is a man lying in a pool of blood in his living room.
43:04He was shot dead a short while ago as two bandits tried to rob him and his family.
43:10What you can't hear is his wife crying inconsolably.
43:15What you don't know is that his four-year-old daughter is standing looking at her father, confused, begging him
43:21to wake up.
43:22Can you imagine what this wife and child are going through and what they will have to go through?
43:27They try to process what has happened.
43:29How can we begin to help?
43:31We can start right here at the Victim and Witness Support Unit.
43:35From investigation to counseling.
43:37To helping families find justice.
43:40To helping families find peace.
43:44This unit gives victims and witnesses hope to cope.
43:48We are the Victim and Witness Support Unit.
43:51Bridging the service gap between the victims, witnesses and the police.
44:10And welcome back.
44:12Now, today this afternoon, I understand there was an accident that took place in the Gasparilo area around 3.43,
44:193.45 PM.
44:20And that was on the southbound lane.
44:22And I understand that it caused a lot of traffic, Captain.
44:26Yeah, you know, this I got in just before 6 PM for today's program.
44:31And, you know, the thing is, you know about the macro traffic.
44:35So, it occurred on the southbound, but the traffic on the northbound was heavy.
44:40Now, this is a truck that spilled its contents on the highway following an accident.
44:45And it was really serious.
44:47So, if it is that your loved ones haven't returned from north or any other part,
44:51north of Gasparilo was here.
44:54Please note that there was traffic backed up all the way to Chaguanas on our way up.
45:00I hope it was cleared, but clearing such a truck requires heavy equipment.
45:06And, of course, you know, that will take some time.
45:09So, we're asking you all who are at home to, you know,
45:12if your loved ones come in late, you know, to know that they're in traffic.
45:17But, again, it's a road traffic accident and it involves a taxi vehicle and a truck.
45:25So, very, very dangerous accident there.
45:28And we were just speaking of taxis, Captain, with regards, you know, to protecting your passengers.
45:34And having that H, that badge, that taxi badge.
45:38And Captain North has prisons and anyone especially this.
45:43Oh, no, no, no. I'm just saying with regards to how important it is to have that.
45:48Yes.
45:48They have to try and make a deal by battling traffic.
45:52Yes.
45:52And I think sometimes, you know, they try to get to their destination quickly.
45:58I'm sure the passengers want to get there quickly as well.
46:01But they're faced with an enormous amount of incidents and accidents on the initial roadways.
46:07And, you know, sometimes you may get them, you know, driving on the shoulder.
46:13That doesn't make it right at all.
46:15That doesn't make it right.
46:16So, you know.
46:17And even the truck drivers, I'm not too sure they are supposed to occupy the left lane and that truck
46:22is on the right lane.
46:23And you don't know if there was a breach in the traffic regulation there.
46:28Could have been.
46:29We were not there.
46:30But these are things they've got to look out for.
46:33And lives.
46:34Persons are alive.
46:35Yeah.
46:36Yes.
46:36From what we heard, persons are alive.
46:39All right.
46:39That is most important.
46:40I can't deal with another death right now.
46:41It's just too much, you know.
46:44It's too much.
46:44Yeah.
46:45Our sensibilities, our emotions.
46:47We can't be numb to someone's life being taken.
46:51And I think, Captain, we have reached that point, not saying everyone in our society, but just from being on
46:58social media and seeing when we see some of these persons' lives being taken away from an accident, from criminal
47:05activity, how nonchalant some people are towards it.
47:10Yes.
47:10Well, one thing I cannot get accustomed.
47:12I have publicly said that after the Angelo Tobias thing, I felt drained mentally, not physically.
47:21And then to have returned home from a short holiday that was designed, you know, for me to just get
47:28that Angelo keys off my mind.
47:30Here comes the Mercedes Lane case.
47:33And I cannot get numb to these things.
47:37Yes, you can't.
47:39Because with the Mercedes Lane, I told you, I reflected on all the, I could call the children's names, who
47:45used to wait on a taxi.
47:47And I reflected on that today and said, God, thank God, while I was there as principal, no harm came
47:53to those children.
47:54That's what I thought about today.
47:56Yes.
47:56It's an emotional rollercoaster.
47:59And we always, you know, we can't get numb to these things because at the end of the day, we
48:04ourselves have to improve the situation.
48:06Yeah.
48:06We have a call on the line.
48:07Caller.
48:08Good evening.
48:10Hello.
48:11Hello.
48:12Good evening.
48:13Good evening.
48:13Good evening.
48:14Captain.
48:15Good evening.
48:17Captain, I just want to expand on something you said, and I'm happy that you said.
48:25You said that you get into our vehicle, and the driver would lock the door, and then you would put
48:32on the loud music so that nobody could hear you scream.
48:35Now, it's funny that you are aware of, that is one of the negatives of this law of music in
48:40cars.
48:41But I don't think the TTPS is aware, because the TTPS, something used to do a very poor job of
48:47making noise from cars, as well as noise pollution, period.
48:50You know, I was forced to raise this issue.
48:52But I'm glad that you said that, Captain, and maybe Whitney could bring that to the attention of Mr. Mr.
48:58When he comes to tomorrow.
48:59Because the TTPS doesn't strike me as that they're taking this noise, take some cars seriously.
49:05Nothing will be transported to me.
49:07No.
49:08And further with me, every day that CH cars continue to operate on the roads of Trinastic people, it's another
49:17day that those in authority are failing to carry out the law which they all swore to oppose.
49:23And I rest my case.
49:25Good evening.
49:26All right.
49:26Thank you so much.
49:27We will rectify that issue with the noise pollution with ASP Russell tomorrow.
49:31Right.
49:32And then the issue with the PH driver.
49:34I just want to remind persons that a PH driver is still missing.
49:39Simon Sow.
49:40And one of the reasons, you know.
49:42He kidnapped.
49:43Yeah.
49:43He was kidnapping.
49:44Up to now, we haven't been able to locate him.
49:48And I was talking to his family and, you know, asked him what route he plied and then where was
49:55his taxi stand.
49:56And they said, no, PH drivers don't have a taxi stand.
49:59They don't have a.
49:59They have to be continuously on the road, hustling passengers on the road.
50:04But the time has come.
50:06You know, there's a saying, Whitney.
50:08With practice, you could move it till long.
50:11We've had the practice of PH drivers for a long time.
50:15I think I met it.
50:17Right.
50:17And we still have it.
50:20It's still a means of earning an income.
50:23And the time has come for us to put that practice into law and try and fix that situation.
50:30Well done.
50:30Because public transport is an important thing.
50:33It is the lifeblood of a country.
50:35And that ability to move people to and from is important.
50:40You look at workers, school children, and every other type of persons who need transport.
50:47Yeah.
50:47We are back to the phone lines.
50:48Caller, good evening.
50:51Hello.
50:51Hey.
50:53Good evening.
50:55Good evening.
50:55Good evening.
50:56Good evening.
50:57Good evening.
50:57Good evening.
50:58Captain.
51:00I'm sorry to have a police officer here tonight and here.
51:03Every time that I have a minor or major accident on that.
51:08Any highway.
51:09Then you see all the officers and everybody blocking the whole road.
51:13People going home.
51:15People going home.
51:16People going home.
51:17Whether it's a fatal accident or a minor accident.
51:20No vehicles on fire there.
51:22They're always black people that nobody can pass.
51:25You have the emergency.
51:26You have the emergency.
51:28You have the emergency.
51:30It's late.
51:31You allow people to go their way and go home.
51:33Every kind of thing happens.
51:35It's not important.
51:36It's like giving you a punishment.
51:39Don't go.
51:39Stay right there.
51:40You have to.
51:41As an officer.
51:42You have to come and send.
51:44I love people to pass on in emergency.
51:47Then put the extreme.
51:48That's what it is for.
51:49And stop blocking traffic.
51:51Everybody is funny.
51:52I am tired.
51:52Hungry.
51:53Sleepy.
51:53You want to go home.
51:54And then you pack in.
51:57I am talking about a single new agent.
51:59Nobody keeps to be there.
52:01That's our best one.
52:02We need our best one.
52:03Best one to kill.
52:05All right.
52:05Thanks very much Kola.
52:06But I tell you with these accidents now Kola.
52:09There is a lot of fluid leakage on highways.
52:13You have a vehicle.
52:14It contains a lot of fuel all in your engine compartment.
52:19So you have brakes fluid to deal with.
52:21You have the other types of your power steering fluid.
52:26These are all oily substances.
52:28And therefore in managing the risk, the officers have to look at what's on the roadway.
52:34If they feel that it has to be washed by the fire services, they will call the fire services to
52:40do that.
52:41If you look at that video we showed earlier, Kola, you will see that it's a truck on its side.
52:48Where are the contents of the diesel tank?
52:53I believe some would have spilled on the highway.
52:55I saw the fire engine.
52:57And I believe the rule of the fire service there is to wash the highway.
53:01So you just can't ask people to run or move with their vehicles there right away.
53:07So you know everything has a reason.
53:10And I'm not sure if you did consider the fluid situation that spills onto the roadway when there are accidents.
53:20I think they might need to move a little bit faster maybe.
53:23That's what they may want.
53:25Because I understand the feeling of what the caller is saying.
53:27Yeah, but then how do you explain the traffic?
53:30I met coming on the northbound, which we do macro traffic.
53:34Yeah, we always want to see and know who did it first and who posting first.
53:39Yeah.
53:39So we have to be mindful of it.
53:41Yeah, yeah.
53:41But I think the fluid situation, I think that needs to be explained.
53:45That's the spilling of the fluids on the highway.
53:48Yes.
53:48It's a very important ingredient in road safety that is cleansing the roadway.
53:54That is very important.
53:55Now I just want to give some information as well.
53:58I know, Captain, with the two young ladies that we have been mentioning, I'm not sure if you could give
54:04us an update with Maya Taylor.
54:05Oh yeah, so we have had no information on Maya Taylor and there is the other girl who the Children's
54:13Authority put up.
54:15But I'm in contact with somebody from the BETAM who is working with me closely on Maya Taylor.
54:23And the other one that we would have missed while we were in Tobago.
54:27I don't know if she is.
54:28Yes.
54:28Curleen.
54:30She is still unaccounted for.
54:32So if you have information on Kayo Taylor and Curleen, please call the number listed on the poster.
54:41I think it's 9960 Children's Authority.
54:45Yes.
54:46All right.
54:47So persons can contact 9960999 and that's the police and we have the Children's Authority as well.
54:53Captain, we have a few minutes.
54:55We give you the opportunity to speak to the public.
54:57All right.
54:59And I think when we are faced with situations that trouble us, especially our emotions, we have to, you know,
55:08regroup as a country and say, listen, we have to reset the moral compass.
55:13And it's only us who could do it.
55:16That is the law abiding, the ones who are outstanding citizens, who do not intentionally seek to break the law.
55:23Yes.
55:24We have to take a stand.
55:25And what does taking a stand means?
55:27It means with any household, set the rules, set the boundaries, train your children to grow up in a particular
55:36way.
55:37And always ensure that, you know, if you go to church, you go to a group meeting, a boy scout
55:44meeting, a police youth club meeting, a town meeting with the police.
55:48You continue to spread the word that we can change Trinidad and Tobago.
55:54All right.
55:54Well, Captain, thank you so much for being here with us, of course, each and every Monday.
55:57We appreciate you with all the information that you give to us.
56:00Up next, we get ready for your news coming up at 7 TNT.
56:03We'll be back tomorrow.
56:05ASP Russell will be joining us.
56:06See you then.
56:07God bless and be safe.
56:08God bless and be safe.
