00:00That first moto, fly racing, 30 second board is up.
00:04We started the day saying this is probably the most anticipated opener ever in this Pro Motocross Championship.
00:10And there's still half of it left to run.
00:14450 Moto 2, Hunter Lawrence, Jorge Prado, Justin Cooper, top three in Moto 1.
00:21Will it change for the second moto? There's a lot of riders capable of doing it.
00:25So here we go. It's time to go racing.
00:36I think Hunter's got it this time.
00:38And Prado as well. No changes.
00:41Plessinger third.
00:42And that's Webb, I think, right there.
00:44Yeah, Cooper Webb, great start.
00:46But Jorge Prado, exactly where he wanted to be.
00:50If I'm him, I think I'm going to attack Hunter Lawrence early in this race as he tries to go
00:54up the inside.
00:55He understands. He knows the playbook with these guys.
00:59I think Jorge's got to be really aggressive in this opening moto, this second moto.
01:03Here it is around the outside. Prado looking for running room.
01:06All over Hunter. He goes from outside to inside. Hunter cuts it off.
01:10Great ride by Hunter. He's used to this.
01:13We saw with Ken Rockson how good he was in Supercross. Hunter had a few times.
01:16Got it again, though.
01:18And Prado shoots to the lead.
01:20He put the power down.
01:22You can see the urgency of Jorge.
01:24He probably sat behind Hunter thinking that he might be able to get him later in the moto.
01:29And I agree with JT. He definitely saved something.
01:31What he saved was a pass that was waiting to happen this second moto.
01:34Great start.
01:35And you can see, James, he is trying to sprint now.
01:38Yeah, he wants to be out front.
01:40I mean, is this one of the first times that we've seen him out front in the motocross?
01:44If not, at least like this it has been.
01:46Yeah, but it's got to feel like old habit because back in Europe where he won multiple titles,
01:50this is where he did his best work from the front.
01:52And that was the playbook, and he executed it perfectly.
01:56Yes, he did.
01:56You can tell they put down some water on the track.
01:59Some sections a little bit more.
02:00For another, that lap section was really slippery.
02:03So Hunter Lawrence is a smart rider.
02:05He's very patient.
02:06He knows it's a long race.
02:07See how this company laps play out, probably regroup.
02:10And then he knows he's got to battle with the number 26.
02:14Third is Plessinger, Hampshire, then Webb.
02:18Ferrand is battling sixth and sixth.
02:21Deegan is in 10th.
02:23Jett Lawrence is eighth.
02:24So they're near each other again, but not the starts they wanted.
02:27Yeah, I think everybody, especially if you're, you know,
02:30hey, Deegan, you'll probably be more aggressive trying to get up,
02:32especially if you're close to that Jett Lawrence.
02:35You don't want him to get comfortable.
02:36You saw what happened that first moto, but it looks like Ferrand has moved up.
02:40I don't know if Cooper Webb went down and made a few mistakes,
02:42but he definitely slipped down.
02:44Battle.
02:45Look at this battle.
02:47I'm going to say that's going from Hampshire in fourth to Hera back in 10th.
02:51They're all wheel to wheel right now.
02:53It looks like Cooper Webb made the pass.
02:55I mean, got passed by his teammate.
02:57So just like that first moto, hey, Deegan, Jett Lawrence in the pack,
03:01battling for eighth and ninth.
03:03I believe same position.
03:04Yeah.
03:05A little earlier and closer to the lead.
03:08And Hunter Lawrence doing all he can to keep Prado in sight.
03:11He knows what Prado wants to do.
03:13He's not going to let him break it.
03:15And he's going right back after it.
03:17Look at this.
03:19Yeah, it goes outside.
03:21Let's see if he can slingshot around there.
03:23And one of the narratives with Jorge during Supercross is that he's very tough to pass.
03:28We're going to find that firsthand.
03:30The race craft.
03:31I think it's more race craft than anything.
03:33But he's in a position where he's leading and dictating the pace.
03:35Let's see what he does as he's going to get passed back in the same spot.
03:39How about that?
03:41Same area on the track.
03:42Hunter gets him back.
03:44Prado up the inside.
03:45Down and up.
03:45Hunter Lawrence back in the lead, JT.
03:48Well, if Jorge Prado's defensive riding was a football team, it would be the 85 there.
03:53That's what he's bringing to the table.
03:55And as soon as I say that, Hunter made a move on him.
03:57But I'm just telling you, there are some things that are very difficult in life.
04:00And then there's passing Jorge Prado.
04:02But Hunter Lawrence just did just that.
04:04Now it's Hunter's turn to try to get away.
04:06Go ahead, Jim.
04:06Well, if Jorge's 85, then Hunter is the greatest show on turf.
04:122001 Rams.
04:13Kurt Warner Rams right there.
04:15We've got offense versus defense here.
04:17Offense winning it at the moment.
04:18Now let's see if Hunter can pull away.
04:21Bottom box.
04:22Jett Lawrence going after Sexton.
04:24I mean, normally when you're talking about Sexton and Jett Lawrence, that's the battle for the Bodo win.
04:29That's how deep the field is this year.
04:31It's fifth and sixth.
04:32Yeah, crazy.
04:32Go back a year for now.
04:34Your defending champion was Chase Sexton.
04:36We thought he would be the only one that might be able to beat Jett Lawrence after battling for seasons.
04:41And now they're battling it back in the pack.
04:44But that shows you how deep it is.
04:45But to me, Jett Lawrence looks a little bit more aggressive in the opening few laps this moto than he
04:51did that second one.
04:54And he made a mistake, Will.
04:57I was talking to Lars Lindstrom, team manager, Honda HRC there, James, just to see if they had made any
05:02adjustments for Jett.
05:03You heard me in the ground the burn there talking about the adjustment they made on the clutch for the
05:07start.
05:08But as far as the bike goes, there was some suspension changes made.
05:12He said it was a little bit soft in that first moto and he did get arm pumped during that.
05:16So they're just obviously trying to avoid that, avoid that sort of fighting the bike and sitting back on it
05:21there.
05:22Just trying to give him a little bit more comfort and, you know, give him that ability to be able
05:25to kind of push through and late into the moto.
05:28Yeah, that actually makes sense.
05:29And it's expected when you think about a rider who hasn't raced all year, coming soft as he almost loops
05:35out right there.
05:36He hasn't been pushing his pace at all at home.
05:38So it's not surprising he would come to a race, pick up the pace, and his bike be too soft.
05:43Looks a lot better this second moto.
05:46But then you've got the rotting partners coming off injury, RJ, and then the cowboy, Aaron Plessinger.
05:55And they're still right behind Jorge.
05:58Yeah, they're hanging in there, actually.
05:59Plessinger had a good start.
06:01And as he's dealing with his buddy, Hampshire, they've got the 26 in sight.
06:06And here's RJ doing what RJ does, just fighting it with everything he's got.
06:10If anybody knows what RJ does, you know he's always going to be there.
06:14But then you've got this battle of Chase Sexton and Jet Lawrence coming up on these guys.
06:20So I don't know about you, Jason, but I just sense Chase looks a little bit better this moto, but
06:25also Jet as well.
06:27They're close to second place right there.
06:29You know, one of the big questions I had this morning, just running through my mind, thinking about this,
06:33is where would the Plessinger-Hampshire types fit in?
06:37Oh, no, and down goes Sexton.
06:39Yeah, tough break right there.
06:41I mean, they put some water down, but it's a small crash.
06:45But for Chase, I just know for him, after that first moto, top three, it's a big crash just instantly
06:51for him.
06:52He just seems like he can't get the ball rolling, especially this year.
06:57Hopefully he gets back up and keeps charging for it.
06:59I think he'd have Ferrandez and Deegan behind him when he picked it up, see if he can get back
07:03up to pace.
07:04And actually, that would move Jet Lawrence to third overall, but it's very early right now.
07:11Plessinger and Hampshire are still battling, and there's Jet.
07:15Jet can finish on the podium today if things stay the same, and it would be his worst finish ever
07:20here at this race.
07:23Podium's terrible.
07:24Terrible.
07:25But back to what I was saying, with this field being so deep, we talk about all the riders that
07:30have won titles into the 250 or 450 class outdoors.
07:34Plessinger does have one, but I was wondering where would the likes of these two fit right in?
07:39And honestly, pretty darn well right now.
07:42Yeah, I mean, both these guys got talent.
07:43But, you know, that question, I would be more concerned about Aaron, how healthy he is, and just with the
07:49thing.
07:49With RJ, you know you're going to get 100% no matter what it is.
07:52So if he's in 10, if he's in 10, he's leading, he's going to ride the same.
07:56So for him, he would be where he's at.
07:58Aaron would be more the wild card there, but great to see him there, especially coming off an injury.
08:04They're going to have their hands full with a 38.
08:05I think all these guys are going to end up closing up before it's ended his moto.
08:09So Deegan battling Miranda's, this is the pro motocross debut for that bike, the Tati Desmo.
08:16Surely designs it Red Bull Racing, but Deegan's got to go, and he makes the move.
08:21Yeah.
08:22No!
08:24Miranda's trying to get him back.
08:28But Hayden's got it done.
08:29Yeah, he got the power down, but Ben Downs said earlier how when Hayden comes up and passes these guys,
08:34he's just going to get the best version of them, like a champion.
08:37You can see how aggressive Dylan went.
08:39Dylan didn't want that pass to happen, and they all want to beat him.
08:43I mean, at the end of the day, you know where this guy's going towards the future,
08:46and there's a lot on the line for Dylan and the Ducati.
08:52What's the name to hold him back there?
08:53Hey, we've heard Malcolm Stewart, your brother, out of this photo, not sure what happened,
08:56actually just rode past our booth here on the motorcycle, at least under his own power.
09:01That's a bummer there for the 27.
09:05A lot of battling to watch as Jett continues to close on Hampshire and Blesinger.
09:11Yeah, I'll find out what's going on with Malcolm.
09:12I think Jay's on my flight tonight, so he'll tell me all about it.
09:15But, yeah, Jett lost a little bit of time that last laugh, but he must have made a mistake
09:19because he clearly was able to close in on RJ and hit him with the jet effect right there.
09:25RJ made a mistake.
09:27It's good to see the number one riding like this.
09:29I can tell you it looks a lot better than he did that first moto,
09:31but as we talked about, he's been getting better all day long, JT.
09:35He has been getting better, but I wonder what percentage you would put on Jett right now.
09:39I'm going to say 85% to 90% of full Jett Warren's power right now.
09:44He's not doing the magical type Jett maneuvers on the racetrack.
09:48I think he just looks a little tentative, and that could be lack of riding.
09:51That could be protecting his foot.
09:53That could just be, hey, I can't make a big mistake and hurt myself here,
09:56but I'd like to know your perspective on that, James.
09:58Yes, he looks fine, but Jett Lawrence is usually far from fine.
10:03He usually looks like one of the greatest riders I've ever seen.
10:05Yeah, well, he still looks like that to me, and I think what it is is that, yeah,
10:09he might be a little bit faster if he was 100% attacking things,
10:13but what it is is that how easy he usually makes it look, you know,
10:17where he's able to repeat these laps over and over, and all day we just see that it looks hard
10:22for him to repeat.
10:23To me, the second moto and the end of that first moto, he's starting to look to where he can
10:27ride this pace,
10:28and obviously he's fast enough to close in on these guys.
10:31So I think the rust is coming from not necessarily he's lacking speed,
10:34but lacking that the Jett Lawrence, I can do this in my sleep kind of, you know,
10:40you know, action that he's going to have to grow with and keep working on, but he looks good to
10:45me.
10:47Certainly looked good there as he closes in on Plessinger.
10:50Nice return, running third for AP, who had a hip injury in Supercross,
10:55just a rough Supercross campaign for AP altogether.
11:00I talked to him yesterday, he said, yeah, I got a few motos under my belt.
11:04I don't think he's coming here at a full 100% fitness, but he's riding well, at least at the
11:09moment.
11:10That's the good news.
11:11The bad news is there's still 19 minutes and two laps to go.
11:15Yeah, and, you know, AP, he's like, I've seen this scene before, you know, Jett Lawrence has, yeah, lets him
11:21go.
11:21Sometimes it's a rider, especially in AP position.
11:23He doesn't want to hold him back, and he kind of knows he's not 100%.
11:26This guy's going, so it makes that pass a little easier than maybe some other times,
11:32but Jett's moving towards the front, and the next person is Jorge Prada, about five seconds in front of him.
11:38I don't know if he has anything for his older brother.
11:40Hunter Lawrence looks great, but still, great ride by him.
11:45Yeah, last time around, Prada's laptop was actually a little quicker than Jett Lawrence.
11:49We'll see if it changes now that he's not in a battle.
11:51And here's Jett talking about just being happy, being back on the motorcycle.
11:57Yeah, I can't wait.
11:59I've been telling my team, all I want to do is just get on the bike, just get me on
12:03the bike.
12:04That's all I want to do, like, you know, we always have all the media stuff and all that.
12:07I'm just like, I couldn't care less about that.
12:10I just want to be in my happy place on my dirt bike, you know, that's where I have my
12:14most fun.
12:15I've had a lot of fun here, obviously, at Parler as well.
12:18So, I just can't wait to go out there and get the, you know, that adrenaline rushing again, you know,
12:23because you just don't get the same feeling when you're practicing to when you're racing.
12:26So, I'm just, I'm just excited, man.
12:29I'm like a little kid that's really wanting to go race on the weekends as an amateur and stuff like
12:34that.
12:34So, I'm excited to get back out there in this race and have those, have those first race-like jitters
12:40again and stuff like that.
12:41And I just honestly just can't wait.
12:45Jet, they're excited to go racing.
12:47But as far as actually being on his motorcycle, it was about nine weeks kind of post sort of getting
12:53back on it to this point.
12:54And I think a lot of people, including myself, thought that meant a lot of outdoor testing.
12:59And we know that translates not just for Jet, but over to Hunter's bike as well because their setups are
13:04so similar.
13:05But checking in with crew chief Grant Hutchinson today, he said, no, that wasn't the case because they had to
13:11wait so long for Jet to sort of get back to pace after the injury.
13:15But really, that testing time didn't exist.
13:17So, he said, what we're looking at for both the guys really is mostly post-Salt Lake City, which was
13:23just a few weeks back.
13:25So, incredible really to think that they're in this comfort point that they are right now with the motorbike.
13:30Both Hunter running up front there and Jet in third with really just a few weeks prep.
13:35And he reflected back to sort of this time last year and said to look back where we were then
13:39at the season opener
13:40and how far we've come and where we are now with the motorcycle.
13:43He said that's just a night and day comparison.
13:46Yeah, it is.
13:47And, again, as I said earlier, when we were talking to JT, so if you watch Jet Lawrence here and
13:52if you watched him in his past,
13:54what he does really good, he's very patient.
13:56He's very light on the motorcycle.
13:57And what I noticed today is that he's sitting down a little bit more than normal in a lot of
14:03these sections.
14:03And where he's sitting down is anywhere where it's a lot of force on his lower body.
14:08And you can tell, like, he's on the back.
14:10He's overjumping things, which tells me when he overjumps it, you can see his body collapse.
14:15So he's kind of protecting that foot.
14:18Again, this guy is dealing with a life, career injury.
14:24So no mistake, I mean, not really harping on him, but a lot of this is coming down for him,
14:28just rust and learning how to be the new version of Jet Lawrence with this injury until he gets it
14:33back 100%.
14:37The broken talus in his foot, yeah, that's expected to take, they were thinking a year.
14:43They knew they could take time off of it with all the rehab technology that they do have.
14:47But this is a pretty tough sport every time you land one of these obstacles to deal with.
14:53When I heard him say yesterday that it hurts when he's riding, you know, with his toes, the ball, his
14:58foot, and the foot peg, and he lands himself.
14:59And I'm thinking, well, he's riding like that all the way around the racetrack.
15:02But that's a lot.
15:04Yeah, it is.
15:05And if you, again, you watch him off that tabletop, you can see him just squatting a little bit.
15:10Some of these areas were last year.
15:12I think he'd be standing up.
15:13And a lot of that's just from not riding.
15:15The lower body's got to build it.
15:16But if you watch his body language, he's got better all day.
15:20But any time he gets in these really a lot of G-forces on his body, you can see him
15:25kind of moving his body around to absorb that.
15:28And that, to me, is just going to take a little bit of time.
15:30But this is the worst he's going to be.
15:32And he's in third place.
15:33Then these guys are going to be in for a long summer.
15:36Maybe not him.
15:37Yeah, exactly.
15:38Got a long way to go to get to Hunter, who's 10 seconds up the road.
15:41Deegan makes work of R.J. Hampshire.
15:45He's still digging.
15:46Got a lap or two to go.
15:48The entire pace picked up.
15:49Everyone jumped into the 18s.
15:53Deegan's still going for it.
15:55Now fifth in Moto1.
15:56Yeah, I think it's, again, good ride for Hayden.
16:00And what he's going to end up doing is learning how this 450 works out, you know, during the second
16:06motos.
16:06Because there's one thing, you can have all this talent, but just the bike and being at this level, Hayden's
16:11got to learn how to work on that, his whole team.
16:13So he'll get better with the motorcycle as well.
16:16And with the spotlight here, Kyle Webster on the Quad Lock Honda team, filling in for the injured Joey Sabacci.
16:22Multi-time champ of racing down in Australia.
16:25Going to give him the Rocky Mountain ATV Provincial Profile hookup here.
16:29Good to see Kyle races a couple of races in America a year.
16:33Because he's been a big part of the Australian team, along with the Lawrences at the Botacross of Nations.
16:39Talked to him yesterday.
16:41He admitted it's going to be tough against his field, but he's riding well right now in 13th.
16:46So he's hovering around that top 10.
16:49Yeah, he's riding really good.
16:50Talking about how difficult this racetrack is.
16:52When he's going down that hill and that drone shot, you can see his bike swapping back and forth.
16:58And us normal folks, you just want to, you would think, slow down.
17:02And he can't.
17:03So you have to almost pick up speed to bring that out.
17:05And it's the opposite of what your body or your mind tells you to do.
17:08But these guys are always dealing with these challenges.
17:11And another challenge is this racetrack.
17:14Yes, Deegan.
17:15That's the challenge toward Plessinger now.
17:17This would be for fourth.
17:21Sexton still back there in seventh.
17:23Justin Cooper, great in moto one with third.
17:27He's back in eighth right now.
17:29So we're looking at a Lawrence Prado-Lawrence overall podium today.
17:34Deegan would be fifth behind Cooper, but making some moves right now.
17:38Yeah, I think Aaron, Hayden's got to try to get around him if he does.
17:42In the same place he made that pass on Dillon.
17:44Because the number four, Kawasaki Chase Sexton, is coming back up.
17:49He can see those guys.
17:51Aaron's not so fast, young kid.
17:53He's coming back, but I think Hayden should have the momentum.
17:56And that inside line is a little bit slower going in that corner.
18:00So he's got him clear.
18:02Now put Deegan into fourth in the moto.
18:06And now would jump him to fourth overall ahead of Justin Cooper.
18:12Halfway through the moto, a reminder to stock up on Monster Energy at Stater Brothers.
18:19Yeah, Jett's about six, seven seconds in front of Hayden.
18:24Hayden takes a peek.
18:25He can see him, but it might be hard to run that number one down.
18:31Never count this dude out, though.
18:32No, you know he'd like to.
18:34And Prado wasn't able to cover Hunter Lawrence in this one,
18:38but Jett has not really made up any time on him when he got to third.
18:42So Prado, as expected, a player today.
18:45And, you know, he's thinking he's going to be a player in it all year.
18:50Yeah, really impressed with, you know, all these guys.
18:52But even Hunter Lawrence just running these two 18s consistently.
18:57Fastest guy on the racetrack.
19:00Holding all these guys at bay.
19:01They got R.J. battling with Plessinger again.
19:04They've been battling all day, and Sexton is back.
19:07Closing the gap.
19:09And R.J., quick move.
19:12Yeah, good move by R.J.
19:13You can tell Aaron being off pretty much most of this year, it seems like.
19:17Definitely with a lot of injuries.
19:18Starting to stand up, laboring a little bit.
19:21Easy to happen.
19:22First moto of the year.
19:23Coming off injuries, tough for him.
19:25Chase is going to have to try to make this pass really quickly as he does up the inside.
19:30All right.
19:31Yeah, it's coming unraveled a bit.
19:33Almost understandable for Plessinger.
19:35Not too much riding coming into the opener of Pro Motocross.
19:39Sexton trying to salvage something.
19:41Really hard to rate the day for Sexton because of those two crashes.
19:46Who knows?
19:47He could have been in podium position.
19:48Yeah, but I think Chase can kind of salvage the day.
19:51If he's able to make the pass on R.J., it's not going to be where he wants to be
19:56at,
19:56but he's getting a lot of info on the motorcycle.
19:59Give him a direction.
20:00Are we close?
20:01And he looks like he's aggressive, but every time he's been in that spot, he's kind of gone down.
20:05So is that him or maybe the motorcycle?
20:07But I love to see the number four moving forward.
20:10It's very important.
20:11And Deegan's only a few seconds up the track.
20:13Oh, that could be a spicy one.
20:15Still 10 minutes and two laps to go as Sexton makes that move on Hampshire.
20:22Now let's flash you back to Moto1 while we have a moment here.
20:24The one rider we expected to be in this battle that is not is the legend Eli Tomac, the four
20:29-time champ.
20:30This is the first lap of the year, left side of the screen.
20:33Yeah, just a racing incident.
20:34And the last time Eli was on the racetrack in Salt Lake City, something similar kind of happened to that.
20:39So a tough break for him, but more on Eli.
20:43Let's go down to Will.
20:45Thank you, James.
20:46Well, he did leave the facility here, and he went for further evaluation, and it was the neck area that
20:51they were looking at.
20:53But X-ray showed that there are no broken bones, which is obviously very good news.
20:58But there is a neck strain, and they will be taking a further look at that this week.
21:03So we'll get further evaluation this week.
21:06Thank you, Bill.
21:07Yeah, that's the scary part, right?
21:08This is now three times if you've seen Tomac go down.
21:11He crashed in the whoops at the qualifying at Cleveland Supercross.
21:15Then the crash early in the night at Salt Lake City.
21:18Now this.
21:18So they're starting to stack up there.
21:20Certainly hope for the best.
21:23Yeah.
21:23Reli.
21:24Yeah, that's tough.
21:24And as you get older, it's the healing, the recovery part that maybe takes a little bit longer compared to
21:29where you're young.
21:30But I like when we showed that camera, you notice Hunter Lawrence, his mechanic was smiling out there, and he
21:36should be.
21:36His rider looked great today.
21:39Making it look just like he did in Supercross pretty easy.
21:41Still got, you know, almost nine minutes left, plus two laps.
21:45So far, man, the 96.
21:47Strong performance.
21:50I don't know.
21:51For some reason, it's always a little undervalued.
21:53But I think everybody's just come to realize this is who Hunter Lawrence is.
21:57Indoors, outdoors, hybrid tracks, motocross, the nations.
22:02It's been a long time since this guy has not been up front on any type of track.
22:06Yeah, and I think you can look at that because of Jett Lawrence, his brother.
22:12You know, I mean, it's hard.
22:13You look at Hunter Lawrence, I mean, without his brother there, he's got, what, three, four championships, especially, you know,
22:19last couple years.
22:20But it's hard to be in the shadow of your younger brother.
22:23But because he was in the shadow, man, to be out here fighting and never give up and to be
22:30supportive of your brother,
22:31keep that family relationship, and continue being better yourself, this is what you're seeing.
22:37And I'll go back and say what I said earlier.
22:39No one has raised this version of Hunter Lawrence, not even Jett Lawrence.
22:44And if this is the version of Hunter Lawrence, I don't know, even healthy, this guy's going to be hard
22:50to beat right now
22:51because he's only getting better.
22:52You can see it starting from Supercross to here.
22:55Yep, and it was getting much closer in pro motocross last year between them than it was the year before
23:00when Hunter was a .450 rookie.
23:02And then we saw the steps he took indoors.
23:03He just keeps improving, and he's looking to go 1-1 today.
23:08I wouldn't quite say dominant fashion because Prado's been close, but he did top the qualifying sessions as well.
23:14Will, it's about as close as you can come to a perfect day.
23:17It is indeed.
23:19And rookie seasons, you just talked about it there, Jason, are very, they're very telling, right,
23:24when we look back at Jett's rookie season, and it was clear, that was clear, huh?
23:28First, the fastest qualifying goes 1-1.
23:31When we look at that rookie season that you talked about in Hunter there back in 2024,
23:35he was third fastest qualifying and went 2-3 for second.
23:40And that was obviously against his brother.
23:42So, really, we don't have to look very far to find why Hunter Lawrence is as good as he is.
23:49We just look at the stats, but like you said, it's kind of his brother and his incredible performances sometimes
23:55confuse that a little bit.
23:56But it's right there, and it has been since 2024 when he was a rookie JT.
24:01Yes, Will, and for more on that Hunter Lawrence story,
24:05Johnny, I want to ask you about the days following that Salt Lake City round.
24:09And I'm sure it was really hard to digest for Hunter.
24:12But what went on in the first couple of weeks that we were trying to just get Hunter back to
24:16zero,
24:17mentally back to normal before he could even start thinking about coming and winning here at Fox Raceway?
24:24Yeah, that's a good way to put it.
24:25I mean, definitely, you know, we were so close, but then Kenny was a little bit better at the end.
24:30And, yeah, like it takes a while to get over that for sure.
24:35I mean, we don't sit there and dwell on it for a long time, but Hunter's pretty tough on himself.
24:40I'm a lot like that also, so, you know, I don't have to scold him and say anything to him.
24:45Just kind of that downtime, 48 hours or so.
24:50And I think he waited about three days to get on his outdoor bike,
24:53but it was pretty much already ready for him because Jed has done a lot of the work for him
24:57outdoors.
24:58Great job, and this is a heck of a way to bounce back.
25:03Yeah, I had a chance to talk to Johnny and even those guys.
25:06And what you think, I think what helped Hunter is, one, his brother coming back from injury,
25:11even with Haydeegan coming in, there was a lot of hype.
25:14So Hunter, you know, knew he kind of had to come out here,
25:17but I think there was a lot of pressure that maybe wasn't on him because of what Jed was coming
25:22back.
25:22There was a lot of talk about him and Hunter slots underneath that radar.
25:25But even more than that, I think having that extra week off between Supercross and Motocross this year,
25:32I think it eliminated that hangover effect that we kind of said from the Supercross,
25:37and it gives him time to kind of get over what he went through, that heartbreaking Supercross,
25:42and he's back out here.
25:43But, again, man, you said you didn't want to say it, but I'm going to tell you right here,
25:47this is a beatdown.
25:49This is dominant.
25:51This race is, I know it's only seven seconds, but it's not even close.
25:55This guy is in a whole different league of his own right now.
25:57And if he needed to pull it out to 10, he could do it.
26:01He's on rails today.
26:03And he did go right back after Prado as soon as Prado got him in this moto.
26:08It did not take him long to regain control,
26:12which maybe does show what he has under the hood if he needs it.
26:15Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
26:17JT.
26:19James, I was just listening to you say that about the beatdown,
26:21and this looks scary easy for Hunter Orange right now.
26:25I'm just watching, you know, kind of the way he's going.
26:28Like, he's riding around, and I know that sounds a little hyperbolic,
26:31but I'm just telling you, he is on full cruise control mode,
26:35and if he needed to pull it to 10 or 12 seconds right now, no problem.
26:38He could do it two laps.
26:39Yeah, no, it is.
26:41And, again, if you look at his brother and even some of the races Hunter's won,
26:45I mean, it's not like he's out there.
26:47He always wants to pull out to 30 seconds.
26:50This is how they kind of win races.
26:51They kind of keep it close, but he could turn up the screws really easy.
26:56And, like I said, I've seen this guy get better throughout the Supercross season
27:00to where there was races that it looked just like this.
27:03And, yeah, this race isn't even close.
27:06Jorge's doing a great job, but he'll watch this
27:08and understand he's got to pick it up to attack that 96.
27:12There's the gap.
27:13Seven seconds now to Prado on the Red Bull KTM.
27:18Jet now has it down to five seconds.
27:21It's been a lot of work, and for all of it,
27:23he's made up about one, maybe one and a half seconds
27:26in the last 10, 15 minutes.
27:29So Prado's showing some strength, enough to hold Jet from...
27:33You can just see him back there really getting a hook in him.
27:36Yeah, I think, Jorge, the same thing kind of happened at first moto
27:38as we take a look at Haydeegan.
27:41You know, it's that rabbit.
27:42Hunter Lawrence is gone, so it's hard for Chase.
27:45And speaking of Chase, yeah.
27:48You know, Chase, I think it'd be a win if he's able to get around Haydeegan.
27:51But, yeah, Jorge Prado, it's hard to race four,
27:53and it's easy to see Jet close in.
27:56But maybe still think Jorge probably overall better.
27:59If he needed to, he'll hold this thing on.
28:01But at the end of the day, still a great ride by him,
28:04all three of these guys, actually.
28:06Yeah, Prado 2.0 here, much better in year two in America than last year.
28:11Last year was just around the top five of this race,
28:13which actually seemed fine.
28:15But it kind of went sideways from there.
28:17Back to this battle.
28:19Chase Sexton digging.
28:21And look, most of the fire from Deegan
28:24has been aimed squarely at Jet Lawrence.
28:27But I cannot imagine that any of these proud guys
28:29that have won this title before, like Chase Sexton,
28:33are fans of the brash talk from the rookies.
28:35So let's see if Sexton can dig deep here.
28:38I'm sure he would be smiling under the helmet
28:41if he could make this happen.
28:42Yeah, trust me, Chase wants to get to him.
28:44It's whether he's set up, he'll come throw in the motorcycle
28:46to push that extra little bit.
28:48But, you know, I don't think it's maybe Chase is probably upset
28:52that Deegan wasn't talking about him.
28:54Because he's like, man, I just won this championship.
28:55I am the guy.
28:57And it's almost like he's got replaced.
28:59So if he can get close to him, he's going to want to beat him
29:01for a lot of different reasons.
29:03But, again, I think it's important for Chase to just mentally,
29:06if he wins this, it would be somewhat of a silver lining in this day
29:11if he can recover after two crashes,
29:13knowing that he possibly could have been on the podium,
29:15but was able to show that speed and run down Hayden Deegan
29:18and, you know, finish it in that top five.
29:20A lot of work with that motorcycle.
29:22Chase told me yesterday a lot better than where they were
29:25even just a few weeks ago.
29:27With the outdoor testing, they made some major changes to the bike.
29:30But he kept cautioning that, look, it feels good at home,
29:32but you never know until you go racing.
29:34I would say, overall, a positive day speed-wise for him.
29:38But those crashes, he is not giving up,
29:40and Deegan doesn't want to let him get it.
29:42No, it isn't.
29:43And, you know, you look at his teammate.
29:45Unfortunately, Garrett, that first motor, he got into it with Eli,
29:48but he's actually been riding really good.
29:50And that's when you know Kawasaki as a team has made improvements
29:53because Garrett is looking good today as well.
29:55So does Chase Sexton.
29:57And I know for Chase, this is like the worst position.
29:59If you can't get around Hayden, you're that close.
30:02If you had enough time to be able to get him and you couldn't, it's tough.
30:06You might as well just be like, I either want to pass this dude
30:08or I don't even want to be close to where it's like that carrot tango in front of you.
30:13He's a little bit quicker than Deegan.
30:15Last lap around.
30:16It looks like he's closed up a little more on this one, but running out of time.
30:21Yeah, made a mistake going down the hill.
30:23And to me, Chase bikes a little soft, looks like a little off,
30:27because you can tell when he starts pushing it.
30:29You see, he makes those mistakes as he's going down the hill.
30:31But when he's open, flat part of the racetrack is where he can use his legs,
30:35use his body, he's able to close in on Hayden, Deegan.
30:38So hard position to be in because you have to pick up that pace to close that gap.
30:42But when you do that, it's easy to make a mistake.
30:44And Chase is trying.
30:52Two lap board is out.
30:53Clock conspired for the leader, Hunter Lawrence.
30:56I wasn't sure if he was going to beat the clock or not.
30:58He did not.
30:58So it is two to go.
31:01And Sexton's still digging.
31:04I think a lot of people, James, are worried.
31:06They just, anyone who wants to see this field continue to have these contenders in it,
31:11wanted to see a good day from Chase.
31:13Is this enough to see some positive signs?
31:16Yeah, I think so.
31:18I mean, the bike does look better.
31:19I mean, you've got to build somewhere.
31:20He looks more racy to me than he did at, for most of the Supercross.
31:25Usually, if he went down, he would just kind of fall back in the pack.
31:29So to me, he's having that charge.
31:31I like that.
31:32I know Chase, and I know he wants to win.
31:35But, man, he's got to find that silver lining.
31:38You know, it's not going to sit well.
31:40Hayden, do you get ridden away from him?
31:41It's not going to sit well.
31:42But at the end of the day, I think him and Kawasaki got a lot to build on.
31:46And both those guys are within the top ten.
31:47And going to a place that, remember what happened a couple years ago,
31:52had one of the greatest rides ever, coming from 40th to 1st.
31:55We just have some experience and some good times up in next week's race and hang down.
32:00Yeah, I think keep in the game, keep improving that motorcycle.
32:02It would be great to have a summer with Sexton, doing Sexton-like things.
32:06But the ante is up with the improvement of Hunter Lawrence.
32:11What Supercross hangover.
32:12What Supercross heartbreak.
32:14Right back at it.
32:17Send a hello out there to Ken Rockson, the new Supercross champ.
32:20Maybe we'll get him back later in the summer for a ProBotocross event.
32:23But you know you'll see him back for the SMX playoffs.
32:27But Hunter Lawrence has it on lock today.
32:31And what a bounce back it is.
32:33We're not going to talk about that heartbreak.
32:35He says that it still stings, which is understandable.
32:38But that is not going to be a storyline going forward.
32:41Yeah, it's not.
32:43And, you know, honestly, I don't even know if it's a bounce back.
32:46I don't know if Hunter even believes in that.
32:48Because this is what I saw all Supercross.
32:50We've been witnessing it.
32:51Like, this is more like Hunter Lawrence most of the year.
32:54And just his attitude, his mindset, I don't think he sees his bounce back.
33:00He's back on track where he's belonged.
33:03And, again, it looks very easy to be watching him.
33:07Smile.
33:08You're on camera.
33:09Kenji's camera.
33:11Mad dogging it.
33:12You're right.
33:13Yeah, we've seen that in the pit board a couple times.
33:15The wins for Hunter won a bunch in Supercross.
33:19And this will be the first 1-1 of his 450 career.
33:23He won the overall at Ironman with a 2-2 in the past.
33:27Somehow it's only the second ever 450 overall win for him.
33:31Although he's been on the podium, it feels like, just about every time he's lined up in 450 motocross.
33:37Yeah, absolutely.
33:38Just going back to your point real quickly, as we talked last year in Hunter Lawrence,
33:42and, you know, finishing second to his brother.
33:45If I'm Hunter, when Jet was healthy, I was right there every weekend, week in and week out,
33:49almost one point from winning the X-Men's world title the last couple of years.
33:54I'm better this year.
33:55So I don't think he looks at it as like, yeah, I'm only winning because of Jet.
33:59I was close to beating him last year when he was fully healthy.
34:02I'm better, and this is the results you're seeing.
34:06So Hunter Lawrence is on point today.
34:08Yep.
34:09He is going to be one to reckon with no matter how much everyone else can improve.
34:13You know they will.
34:14But they've got a long way to go because he's got it up to over 10 seconds over Prado.
34:18Now Jet Lawrence not giving up, still closing on Prado down to the end here.
34:23Prado's been around the block a time or two.
34:25You've got to figure he's got that under control, though.
34:29Yeah, it was at some point.
34:30Jet was closing, and then Jorge picked up the pace and stretched it out.
34:34But he lost a lot of time in the last lap and a half.
34:37So I don't know if that's lap first that he made a mistake.
34:40I think he had him pretty, you know, pretty covered at that point.
34:45Well, Hunter Lawrence, I said that Moto won.
34:47The king of the left brain thinking, very analytical, logical, unemotional about it.
34:52That paid off in the face of some heartbreak in Supercross.
34:56He just focuses on process and lets the results unfold.
35:01And today that process was perfect.
35:03Fastest in both qualifying sessions.
35:05Wins Moto 1.
35:07And with an even bigger lead here at Moto 2, he's able to cruise it on home.
35:14Hunter Lawrence.
35:16He's the man today.
35:17A much-hyped opener.
35:18Not enough talk about him, but he's got all the headlines now.
35:221-1.
35:23And look at this battle.
35:26Jet Lawrence gets to the rear wheel of Jorge Prado right at the end.
35:30And Chase Sexton getting to the rear wheel of Deegan.
35:34These guys want it.
35:36They want it.
35:37You know what I like to see from Jet Lawrence?
35:39I like that aggressive tear-off pull.
35:41He was mad.
35:42That means he's feeling back more like Jet Lawrence.
35:44He don't like to lose.
35:45Good start.
35:46Already not satisfied with third.
35:48Yep.
35:48I mean, in this case, I mean, he's struggling today, right?
35:51Yeah, yeah.
