The #96 is showing out at the finale! Hunter Lawrence just took an impressive victory in 450 Heat Race 2 at Salt Lake City. Hunter showed veteran-like composure, hitting his marks perfectly on a track that is becoming increasingly difficult and rutted.

With this win, Hunter secures a prime gate pick for the final Main Event of the 2026 season. His ability to maintain speed through the technical Salt Lake City transitions proves he is a serious threat for the podium tonight at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

00:01I own it I almost think it'd be easier to be on the motorcycle at this stage at least for
00:07my thoughts right now well old move though for the 96 starting outside of the top three guys
00:16to his left he didn't have a choice he was besides Eli he was ahead of kin so all right
00:23this is gonna be as I said before this is gonna give us a window into the evening it's the
00:28second
00:28heat of the 450s the title rivals are in it who gets the better of the start Hunter Lawrence blasts
00:34out of the gate gets that inside run gets the whole shot and Honda's hero is out in front yeah
00:40that's checked checkbox number one right here and oh Tomac goes down this is gonna be the thing this
00:46is the first time they've been on the track in a while so might take them a lap kind of
00:51to get
00:51seated in James but this is going to be exciting watch but watch Kenny how explosive he is early
00:56on inside of Vince Frisey make quick work of that and apparent we're hearing that Eli Tomac
01:03may be heard he's down on no oh man he's only just come back from injury yeah he's in a
01:10bad spot too
01:11right off in the middle it probably gonna speculate but probably stop this race where he's at great
01:19start Hunter Lawrence now Roxen's out after Justin Barsha aboard that Troy Lee designed Red Bull Ducati
01:25see this is you talk about what does it mean for these two guys to be in the same heat
01:31race look
01:32at not a not a red cross flag out so they're allowed to jump and go through that rhythm lane
01:37as they did
01:38but this is this kind of helps a guy like Ken because he can get a feel in case he's
01:43in this
01:43situation right in the main event and as well for Hunter if he gets that whole shot this is this
01:51is big for
01:51these two guys for those two reasons look at Hunter man making it happen when he does yeah it's gonna
01:58be
01:58interesting to watch kind of I didn't think Ken would be really that aggressive in this heat race
02:03compared to in the main event as you can hear the crowd I think Eli might be oh down another
02:09rider down
02:09in the background there as well whether that was Jordan Smith I think it may have been aboard his
02:15triumph and that is hard to watch yeah remember Eli hurt his hip back when he crashed in Cleveland in
02:21the practice hopefully he hasn't aggravated that again but hate to see that because he had a great
02:26run coming back the job of a good run through uh Hunter right there so three seconds between the two
02:35of
02:35them with Justin Barsha in the middle JT what you got just watching Ken rocks in there just has a
02:40couple
02:41of sections where he just doesn't look comfortable to me guys through the whoops which is usually a
02:46great spot for him he is usually lethal in those whoops and in the sand section he has not been
02:51able
02:51to find traction with the rear end so I'm just wondering if something that they made him adjustment
02:56or maybe can for the main event you can kind of see Hunter Lawrence riding off in the distance a
03:01little bit that's something they're going to need to address before it really counts yeah I agree and
03:06that's kind of the way he looked all day long and I feel like if this was the main event
03:09Justin probably wouldn't be you know racing him but in the heat race he'll probably will but yeah
03:15Ken's been a little bit off all day and I don't know Ricky if there's anything you really can change
03:19at this point it's look the same yeah I mean you can't reinvent the wheel here by any stretch of
03:25the
03:25imagination this race team's going to do the best they can do to get the bike as comfortable for Ken
03:30as they can listen everything is a compromise on these motorcycles and Ken knows that his team
03:35personnel know that you know if you need something more from the rear most likely it's going to take
03:41away from that front so at the end of the day yes the team can play a role but the
03:46rider needs to make
03:47the final decision because it's on him and he's the guy riding it Garrett Marchbank's Vince Friese this
03:53is 6th and 7th Grant Harland is in a transfer position and so too is Quadlock Honda's Shane
03:59McElrath he's been able to get ahead of Kyle Chisholm Chisholm was in a transfer position and
04:04indeed it was Jordan Smith who went down and he was as high as 6th place and he's dropped to
04:0911th now
04:12it'd be interesting to see these next couple laps what Kenny's able to do if he's able to make some
04:17ground and James you know the mental side of the game if you were in Ken's spot would you would
04:22it
04:22help you going into the main if you made up time on him right now yeah I was gonna I
04:27was gonna talk
04:28about that exactly if if you're in Kenny like you want to close that gap especially Hunter's been
04:33quicker all day long and all that struggling and then Hunter I want to try to pull away from him
04:38to
04:38kind of demoralize him all right here's this guy Hunter Lawrence who's been working incredibly hard
04:44with his team on starts and boy you saw the proof in the pudding right there as he blasted out
04:51of
04:51the gates grabbed the whole shot took off he has however over the last lap lost about seven tenths of
04:57a
04:58second to Ken Rockson well he has the last lap like to diff's point Ken was a 50.5 Hunter
05:05was a 50.9
05:06you can see he's catching him watch this perfect execution and watch when he shifts right there
05:14that is huge the biggest thing that I believe he's gonna have to do is make sure that he does
05:19not
05:19overshoot his breaking going into there and fade out and let Ken get to the inside or anyone for that
05:25matter yeah and it's really easy to do that when you pull a hole shot like Hunter because you don't
05:29have that you know breaking point when oh no down Basha goes by so too Malcolm Stewart this is not
05:38gonna help
05:38the headspace of Ken Rockson well we haven't seen this happen I don't know maybe as crazy as this
05:45might sound this might be what Ken needed right here okay obviously but not for the the going into
05:51the main event but take everything away quit looking into it just go out ride your motorcycle is gonna come
05:56in here take it away yeah it's probably gonna get on the gas and just or loses the front end
06:00right here
06:00gets on the gas but before that he was starting to close in on Hunter Lawrence at that point so
06:07you got to
06:07think he was pushing it JT he definitely was trying to close in time I think both of you made
06:12great
06:12points about the mental battle in this heat race what that means for the main event but now I'm
06:17thinking about that gate pick for the main event we saw how good Hunter Lawrence starts are and
06:22probably will be in the main event but for Ken Rockson now you're talking about the seventh or eighth
06:26gate pick which is just gonna make things that much harder for the main event I'm gonna tell you
06:31though I mean knowing Ken when he rode for Kerry Hart and I at RCH racing this guy could come
06:38out and
06:38get a good a good start in the main event no matter where he's from and if he finds himself
06:44in front of
06:44Hunter for some reason look out he could win this race like it's it's certainly not over yeah no
06:49absolutely you know and then on the flip side if I'm Hunter I'm like yeah he was closing but
06:54obviously he was over his head look at him I was doing this pretty easy so yeah it's funny how
06:59the
07:00mind works it's like if you're Hunter you're like well I had him on the edge that's why he fell
07:04the
07:05mind is a mysterious thing I'll tell you remember last week in Denver Ricky you laid out everything
07:10that Hunter Lawrence needed to do well he is answering that challenge and he's doing it he wins last
07:16weekend in Denver and look at this a five and a half second lead in his heat terrific start
07:22very composed ride very clean and smooth right in this heat yeah checkbox number one right there
07:29and again very very impressive it's got to do it one he needs one more start just like that I
07:37think these
07:37are gonna be jumpers later on yeah I think so yeah OGS won't like to jump right there his little
07:48brother
07:48and fellow champion Jet Lawrence is here cheering on big bro there it is that's exactly how you want
07:56to start championship Saturday with a comfortable victory over your rival and the championship leader
08:04well done Justin Barsha his comeback to the sport continues in nice fashion with second over Malcolm
08:10Stewart and Ken Rockson in fourth ahead of Cooper Webb yeah I just say you throw it out for
