00:00In summer 2027, it'll be all aboard at the locomotive shed at Leeds Industrial Museum.
00:06It's on track to reopen after more than a decade, with a £233,000 grant from the National Lottery Heritage
00:13Fund
00:14seeing the venue being extensively refurbished.
00:17It houses Leeds' collection of locomotives, but has been closed after being badly damaged by the Boxing Day floods of
00:242015.
00:25The gallery's refit will mark the project's final stage, and will mean visitors will once again be able to view
00:32locomotives,
00:33including Leeds-made engines, Junin and Oldwith.
00:37Both were manufactured more than a century ago by Leeds' firm Manning Wardle,
00:42one of a number of local firms which exported engines around the world.
00:46It's all part of the Reimagining Railways project, and in future years the museum aims to run a Leeds-built
00:52locomotive
00:53on its newly renovated narrow-gauge track for special events.
00:57Alongside the engines, the refurbished gallery will also look to connect the machines
01:01which made locomotives to local and global stories of people, place and the environment.
01:06The Boxing Day floods saw Leeds Industrial Museum feel the full force of Storm Eva,
01:11with parts of the site submerged under up to eight feet of flood water.
01:14A clean-up operation by the site team and local volunteers saw the museum reopen three months later,
01:20but damage to the locomotive sheds was too extensive.
01:23Since then, extensive flood protection works have been completed to safeguard the museum site from future flooding.
