00:09as Leeds City Council has commenced its Leeds City Links scheme, which aims to improve how we move through the city centre.
00:16The £12.76m project is funded through the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement and delivered with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
00:26Key walking and cycling routes will be the focus, better linking the north and south of Leeds with surrounding communities.
00:34In the north, work will take place along Great George Street, Merion Street and Woodhouse Lane.
00:40Pavements will be significantly widened, giving pedestrians more space and allowing room for outdoor cafes.
00:47A fully segregated two-way cycle track will run the length of the route, with safer cycle crossings at junctions.
00:54On-street parking will be selectively reduced, with new pedestrian crossings added,
01:00and the Great George Street and Woodhouse Lane Junction will be transformed, with new trees and greenery also introduced.
01:07In the south, work will stretch from Leeds Minster to Sovereign Street, covering areas including Kirkgate, The Calls and Call Lane.
01:15Temporary traffic changes will be in place, including one-way systems, lane reductions and traffic signals around Great George Street and Oxford Place.
01:23A full closure between Dudley Way and Woodhouse Lane will begin on 26 January for 11 weeks.
