00:00e drop the gate
00:07Jett Lawrence has it
00:09Hunter right there and Deegan
00:11and it's on. What a great
00:13start by both these guys. They listen to the
00:15keys to the moto right here and I believe
00:17Jorge Prada was in fourth but just got
00:19passed by Aaron Plessinger but
00:21Jett Lawrence out front where he
00:23hasn't been all year long.
00:24Only still have been two races, but back where he feels
00:27like he's belonged along with the rookie
00:29Hayden Deegan and Hunter Lawrence.
00:31And this is what the crowd
00:32wanted to see. Lawrence's
00:35versus Deegan.
00:41And they respond, of course,
00:4330 minutes and two laps. Here we go.
00:47We're set up for a race right here.
00:48They put down a little bit of water,
00:50but I still feel like the track is very
00:51raceable as they go back into the infield.
00:54I hear the crowd.
00:56Oh, they're losing their minds right now.
00:59Hunter rolling up on Deegan and Prada was moved to fourth.
01:03Yeah, I was wondering what would Prada he got past.
01:06He was in fourth and got passed, but then went back.
01:09So this is a new Jorge Prada as Hunter Lawrence is trying
01:12to work on the rookie.
01:13Hey, Deegan, as he tries to go up in five,
01:16almost went down and then they almost collided.
01:19That was really heads up riding by Hayden.
01:21Hayden was going to the outside.
01:23He sent Hunter coming and he closed that gap.
01:25And now look, Jett Lawrence is right in front of him.
01:34See if Prada can hit your rod and get to this trio.
01:40Yeah, you're right.
01:40Deegan's still right there with Jett.
01:44And Hunter Lawrence just shows the talent in that corner.
01:46It looked like he almost lost it and was standing on two wheels.
01:49But I think what you're going to see is Hunter really trying to attack
01:52Hayden in these early couple laps because you don't want that kid to have
01:55any confidence of you can attack him and just start holding him up.
01:58Then maybe you can start settling into a pace, but let's say the Hayden
02:04is starting to get away from him.
02:08So now we see this is what happened to Plessinger, who was fourth.
02:14Oh, okay.
02:15Man.
02:17Uh-oh.
02:18He's about to get some batters.
02:19Oh!
02:20Managed to escape and then sexted it down.
02:25Ah, Chase.
02:26Chase.
02:26Raised that right now.
02:28Probably losing the front end.
02:29Really easy to happen on a slippery racetrack, but it's going to be hard to go
02:34from last to 40th.
02:35I think he's down to 20th spots right now.
02:36Yeah, this field is going to make it tough.
02:39Well, however it turns out, no doubt, a big improvement for Hayden Deacon.
02:44You can just see it and how much smoother he was this morning, the better
02:47qualifying time, and then it starts for the number one thing that needed to be
02:51improved a lot better now.
02:54Yeah, a lot better now.
02:55I feel like this is the chess start, the chess match starts happening.
02:59They stay like this for the next couple of laps.
03:01Believe what Jetliners wanted to do, get a start, see if you can
03:04pull a gap, now you probably realize that he's not going to pull it.
03:07Let's start going into this moto knowing that, hey, Deacon and my brother is going to be there.
03:11So, you start going to plan B.
03:13Hey, Deacon, now Hunter Lawrence isn't behind me, so I'm going to start relaxing.
03:17I got a little bit of gap so I can start keeping my eye on the number one.
03:20And believe me, he might not pass Jet, but every lap that he stays there is almost like a pass
03:25in his mind.
03:25He's going to get more confident, and this race will close down as it goes on.
03:29And Chet Lawrence, that hard landing there.
03:31Remember, coming back from a devastating foot and ankle injury, the talus bone in his foot, thought it was going
03:38to take maybe a year to recover from that one.
03:40He got back to the racetrack in six months.
03:42He looked worse for wear.
03:43He was struggling to walk last week, rode two days this week, but abbreviated, maybe not as much riding as
03:50he normally would do.
03:51Didn't ride press day sessions yesterday to try to save himself.
03:55You wouldn't know by watching him, but he is in rehab mode, but making it look good at the moment.
04:01Yeah, and I can tell you, Jet Lawrence right now, it's probably riding tight.
04:05You know, it's been a while since he's been out front.
04:08You know, clearly he has the speed.
04:09He's been here all week long, had that pace, especially that second one.
04:14So it's been almost a year since he's been out front.
04:17That just takes a little bit of time to get used to him.
04:19And what's going to happen is that he'll get to a point to where Hayden Deegan stays there.
04:24He'll steadily pull that gap out because he'll just get more comfortable, and that's the difference between this weekend's, Jet
04:30Lawrence, and last weekend's.
04:32Does it just look better than last week?
04:34He looks a lot better.
04:35He looks more aggressive.
04:36And the one thing we were talking about with Jet, he was fast in practice, but it wasn't the speed
04:40that I was looking for.
04:41It was the consistency.
04:43Could he do it like we saw Seth Handmaker, really easy?
04:46Can he replicate that?
04:47This is kind of what I see now, and that's when Jet Lawrence is back.
04:54All right, and he's got two seconds on Deegan right now.
04:57Almost a sense of calm before the storm, but which way will that storm go?
05:01Will it be Hunter after Deegan?
05:03Will it be Deegan making a charge on Jet?
05:05JT.
05:06Well, I think there are storm clouds in the shape of Hayden Deegan there.
05:11And you know what I really like about their program here is, yes, sometimes they have vulnerabilities.
05:17Sometimes there are things that Hayden needs to get better on, but they are relentless in their effort to shore
05:21those up.
05:22They will identify it, and they will work tirelessly to fix them.
05:25And that was really the key for this race.
05:28Could he, in a week's time, fix the starts, one, and then change a little bit of his riding style,
05:33maybe shift a little bit more?
05:35Well, step one, those starts, they seem to be a lot better.
05:38And if you watch, if you follow his Instagram this week, he posted a story of him on the starting
05:43line, and it said three words, one million starts.
05:46So I don't think he did a million starts, but it goes to show you that they are trying to
05:50fix the problems he may have going into this championship.
05:52Yeah, and I agree, and the difference between this class and 250, that you've got Jet Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, these
05:57guys are worldly talents.
05:59So Hayden Deegan can get a 10th place start in that 250 class and make his way up just like
06:03Levi.
06:04This class is too good.
06:05I mean, these are the best riders in the world, so he understands that I've got to get a start
06:09and even think about competing with those guys.
06:12So that's number one.
06:12But I think this moto, Jason, is going to tell a lot about Hayden Deegan and where he is on
06:17the 450 because I believe, like, he's going to sit here.
06:20If he's able to, like we saw in the 250 class, let a couple laps go and then go after
06:25Jet Lawrence, then that would tell me that he really knows that he has everything that he's needing.
06:29He's just letting this race play down and go.
06:32If not, then I think he's going to have Hunter Lawrence in it.
06:35And to me, what it would tell me is that he's good, but he's not ready because I believe Hayden
06:39Deegan would be attacking the number one if he could.
06:42But only time to tell.
06:44And Hunter Lawrence just lurking.
06:46Man, it's hard to say who's improved more, Jet or Hayden.
06:50Both mats will be better than last week, not just with a start, but with the riding as they're fouling
06:55last week's winner, Hunter Lawrence.
07:04And you got Ferrandez back there in sixth.
07:06And shout out to Mikkel Harrop on the 5-11 tryout there in fifth.
07:11Another good run for him.
07:12So five of the top six riders or international riders here up.
07:16The Danish rider, Ferrandez, out of France.
07:19And, of course, the two Australians, Lawrences and Spaniard Trotto.
07:26Yeah, I love this position because it's going to show you if Hunter Lawrence, I don't think he'll allow this
07:32gap, if he can, to get too much farther ahead.
07:34I think what he's doing is learning Hayden Deegan.
07:37It's kind of seeing what he is.
07:38So if he has a pace, he's just going to sit here, keep Hayden Deegan in check as we go
07:42to Jorge Prada, who's starting to lose his toe.
07:45I think Hunter Lawrence, if he can, he'll just sit there and let this race go and kind of get
07:48the tendencies of the guy of Hayden Deegan.
07:51He hasn't raced in a while before and see what he's going to do.
07:54Yeah, Prado a little bit in no man's land.
07:59A little gap to Lawrence and a gap over Harrop for Prado.
08:04So let's check in with the Triumph rider right here.
08:07Katie.
08:07We know that Mikkel Harrop had a great pallet hole shot there.
08:10And the team today did a few extra starts this morning.
08:13And they said he's like a diesel.
08:15He needs to have a little bit more oomph to start the race in order to hold on to what
08:20they have.
08:20And we see that he did that again today.
08:22I asked how he liked the bike.
08:24You know, obviously, last year being on that 250, and he said, you know, I like the whole bike.
08:28I'm a bigger guy, so I like the power, and it just suits my riding style.
08:32So look at Harrop being a good conversation when he's here in the 450 class.
08:36Oh, he is.
08:37He's such a well-spoken rider, and because he did not race supercross,
08:40he actually went to some of the bigger amateur races just to get in some race intensity and gate drops.
08:46Often didn't even finish on purpose.
08:48He'd pull off to let the amateur kids get the result they need.
08:51He just wanted gate drop time, and he's got company now.
08:54Here comes Ferrandez on the Troy Lee Designs Red Bull Ducati.
08:58Yeah, great to see Dylan up here.
09:00I expected a lot from Dylan, Justin, but there's also this race team, a new race team, Ducati, coming into
09:07this sport.
09:08And last weekend, I didn't really see much from him, but this is what we expect from Dylan, a champion
09:14before.
09:15And we also know how many times in laps Justin's been around as RJ goes right in front.
09:20But looking forward to seeing what this race team does all year.
09:23This is March Banks on the roster Kawasaki.
09:28You got Webster, the Australian there, went off the side of the track on the right.
09:33That's going to allow March Banks to get him.
09:35That'll move March Banks to 10th.
09:37Yeah, Garrett rode great last weekend.
09:39Some bad starts, and obviously that incident with Eli Tomac, that first moto.
09:42I expect big things out of Garrett.
09:44I believe he's starting to look for a ride as well, but really a bigger rider, just like, you know,
09:49hair up in fifth.
09:51I think it's a good thing for him.
09:52Here's the update on the Oakley riders in this one.
09:56You got Ferrandez and Hampshire at 6-7.
09:58Barsha just up ahead of this battle at 8.
10:01Sexton recovering for the early crash, 14th.
10:04Blossom, Jordan Smith, 15th and 24th.
10:07Checking back in with this second-place battle, Deegan, and it looks like another attack from the 96 in route.
10:14Yeah, that's kind of what I was saying.
10:15I felt like with Hunter Lawrence, if he had the pace, he would sit back, you know, wait.
10:20Because obviously he's looking at Hayden, but he's also keeping an eye on his brother if he wants to have
10:23a chance to win the race.
10:24And Jet starting to do what I thought he would.
10:27He just gets more comfortable, starting to ink that gap out.
10:30Hayden's starting to come back, so it's time to make that pass if you can to Hunter Lawrence if you
10:34want to have a shot at winning this race still.
10:36So he's not thinking about Deegan in second.
10:38He still wants to be in touch with the leader.
10:40Well, I mean, obviously he's thinking about Hayden, but now he understands that if Hayden could, he'd probably go after
10:45my brother.
10:45So clearly he doesn't have the pace, and I do.
10:48So, yeah, I am thinking about how I'm going to pass this rookie, but at the same time, I'm doing
10:52that now to get after my brother.
10:54Otherwise, I would just wait him out and pass it later.
10:57I see.
10:58Yeah, it's only 10 minutes into this moto, and it has been a waiting game for all of us.
11:03Which way is this going to go?
11:07Yeah, well, if anybody has the experience riding with Jet Lawrence and knows where he's good and what makes him
11:13great, it's the 96th's brother in Hunter Lawrence.
11:16I mean, he's dealt with this guy the last couple of years, finishing second.
11:18So he knows what happens when Jet gets really comfortable.
11:22So Hunter is like, man, I got to start picking that pace up and try to get around Haydeegan if
11:26I can.
11:26But, hey, he's still riding really good at this moto.
11:31I'm talking to Hayden's dad, Brian, this morning.
11:34The teams can control the power of the bikes with the mapping and the EFI tuning, but he said Hayden
11:39didn't want any of that.
11:40He wanted all the power in his wrist and control it himself.
11:43Thought that was the way to go.
11:44Looking back now on the opener, they've decided to make some changes and also encouraging him to just rip that
11:51bike a little less.
11:53High revs are the key in the 250 class.
11:55You don't hear it as much in the 450s.
11:57It's definitely made big gains in a week.
12:02Yeah, Hayden's getting better, and I think he'll learn a lot from this race, probably even more than the last
12:07one, because he's up there with Jet.
12:09He's in front of Hunter last weekend.
12:10He didn't have that clear racetrack, so he's going to learn a lot, and we know how quickly this kid
12:16learns.
12:17It wouldn't be a surprise to me if he learns during this moto and actually closes that gap back up
12:22at Jet.
12:22Wow.
12:28It's the section where Hunter keeps getting close, and that bottom box, you got Hampshire, the Husqvarna closing on Harrop.
12:37That would be for sixth.
12:42RJ, we know what he does.
12:43He's going to be here every moto, continue to charge, and if there's a little bit of motivation, trying to
12:48find a rod, he's going to take that intensity up.
12:51So, yeah, watch out, Harrop.
12:54You got company now with RJ, and then just ahead of them, you got Ferrandez Prado, and then these two,
13:00Deegan getting off the back of the bike, hanging it out.
13:03As for Hampshire, let's send it back to Katie.
13:05Yeah, Stu, you're talking about the motivation, and he was telling me it is such motivation to not have a
13:09rider done and signed still delivered.
13:12He did say last week at Pala he was in a big riding mode and not quite in a pushing
13:16it mode.
13:17However, he did say at one point he got passed by Deegan in the final laps.
13:21You want to talk about some fire, he said.
13:23There was some fire under him.
13:24So, not only is it without a rider, you see him make a move there, not only is it not
13:28having a ride, but it's also getting passed by Deegan that really amplified RJ wanting to put a performance on
13:34today.
13:35Oh, and he just couldn't make the move on Harrop, doing everything he can there, Katie, to make the move.
13:40Yeah, RJ told me last week, he says, man, it got me mad when Deegan got me because he says
13:46he's gritty, and he is, but I feel like I'm the gritty guy, too.
13:49I'm tough, too.
13:50He didn't want to get passed late.
13:53Harrop's going to have to deal with it now.
13:55See Deegan hanging tough in second to the top box.
13:57Yeah, I wouldn't make anybody mad.
13:59I mean, hey, when you're refrigerated in your house and took your Kool-Aid.
14:02So, you know, RJ is like, doesn't sit well with him, but.
14:08And every time Hunter starts making tracks toward the 38, Deegan pulls back away.
14:15Looks like Hampshire made the pass on the 31, so he's around Harrop.
14:18Yeah, that was a great line by RJ.
14:21Just squared him up, and that's just really time on this racetrack, knowing how these lines play out.
14:25Good pass, but it's not giving up, and RJ sees Dylan Ferrandez made that pass on Mikael, so he needs
14:34to go out to the number 14 in fifth place.
14:40Yeah, RJ will try to close on Ferrandez.
14:42Gap is 5.2 seconds.
14:43Team Chetlords and Hayden Deegan, and the yo-yo battle back there for second continues.
14:50As Hampshire, Harrop's hitching a ride here with him.
14:55A little close off that racetrack.
15:01Halfway through this one, reminder to stock up on Monster Energy at Grocery Outlet.
15:08And what's going to happen next in this boat?
15:11Harrop looks fresh.
15:13Yeah, sometimes as a rider, when you feel like you get past, you would just expect the guy to be
15:17able to pull away.
15:18And RJ's starting to get away right now, but you can almost sit back, and if that guy doesn't get
15:22away from you,
15:23it almost gives you confidence, like, okay, it was just lines that he had, really, not necessarily my riding.
15:28So you'll follow him and then follow his lines.
15:31And if you're RJ, you've got to keep that rabbit in front of you and keep chasing you,
15:34otherwise you start right behind him and close that gap back up.
15:40Check back in with Jet Lawrence.
15:42Has it up to 5.6 seconds.
15:44Wow.
15:45I don't know if he was worried, but there were a lot of worries just in general last week.
15:49That was not the typical Jet Lawrence performance coming back from injury.
15:53A lot better here, JT.
15:53He is certainly a lot better, and it's not just the speed.
15:57It's the form.
15:58It's how he looks, kind of what James is touching on there.
16:01But, you know, I'm curious as to the couple last, couple last.
16:04He's really put in kind of a push here.
16:05He's built that gap up, and I don't know if he's just kind of starting to feel a little bit
16:09better,
16:10gaining a little bit of confidence, or it's something I was wondering about.
16:13You know, Hayden's calling card has been weight race pushes.
16:16He has so much tenacity and aggressiveness late in these races,
16:21but Jet Lawrence can't be expected to be 100% yet.
16:23So is there a chance, James, that he's kind of pushing now, build up a gap,
16:28so when we get to the last five to eight minutes, the gap is simply too big for Hayden to
16:33close down?
16:33Yeah, I think everything you said, JT, is spot on.
16:36I think all of them are true.
16:37I think, as I mentioned earlier, if Jet, you know, that gap, he pulled it early,
16:42and then that gap came back and stayed there.
16:43But I was like, if he stays there, he's going to feel more comfortable.
16:47He hasn't been racing all year, and then he'll build up to start inking that gap out.
16:51And then with Hayden Deegan, yeah, Jet doesn't know Hayden.
16:54He hasn't raced him in a while, but we've seen what Hayden does on TV.
16:58If you let him stick around, he only gets better.
17:00So I think Jet starts flipping in the pace.
17:02But to me, it just looks like he's more repeatable for Jet Lawrence,
17:06and he's pulling that gap rather than, you know, he's, like, making an attack.
17:09I think he's just faster.
17:11Yeah, he was over a second faster than anyone.
17:13The last time around.
17:15Katie.
17:16Okay, talking to the team, they said that they picked up the rear brake a bit
17:19so Jet's foot doesn't have to reach so far.
17:21I've only spent minimal time on a bike, and it was really difficult to maneuver my foot
17:26around on the pedal or on any kind of the shifty or whatnot.
17:30How much, Stu, does that help a rider like this in an injury that he had
17:35to just pick it up even a little bit?
17:36Yeah, I mean, I think when you're dealing with an injury with your ankle and the flexibility,
17:41a lot of people think you don't really slam on the rear brakes.
17:44You move your ankles, your toes, you kind of, you know, brake that way.
17:48So you have a lot of movement in your ankle.
17:50So if Jet last weekend ankles were stiff and he gets to a race, you know,
17:54you really wouldn't know that until you got to a race, and that's, like, one small area that they could
17:58put.
17:58But at the same time, I feel like this racetrack is a little bit easier than last weekend's racetrack.
18:04There's some hills, but the way it lays out, it's not so much pressure.
18:08As you can see, Jet Lawrence, he's calmly coming into corners.
18:11He's being patient, and he's riding better.
18:14But who's turning up the notch is Hunter Lawrence on Hayden Deegan.
18:18Now, JT was mentioning what he thought Jet was doing.
18:21I actually do believe Hayden tried doing that, pulling away from Hunter, and he did his best.
18:26Hunter stabilized that gap.
18:27Now, Hayden's in the, uh, his own, what he would like to call the danger zone of Hunter Lawrence at
18:33the moment.
18:33Yeah, Deegan did take a look over his shoulder there and saw the 96 closing.
18:39Does it again?
18:40Yeah, I mean, they got a huge lead on Jorge Prada, so it really depends on how Hayden wants to
18:45handle this race.
18:46Like, is he going to fight Hunter?
18:48Will he try to slow this race down and try to recover and then get within five minutes and hang
18:52on, or what's going on?
18:59How about the fifth time I've said this? Which way is this battle going to go?
19:03So, every time it looks like Hunter's about to engage in a duel, doesn't quite happen.
19:10Still 10 minutes and two laps left.
19:12So, I believe what Hayden and Brian was talking about, you know, working on, it's just the high momentum.
19:19Really, his aggressive riding.
19:21And I think what's happening, Jason, is on certain parts of his racetrack, Hayden's riding style actually works more.
19:27So, going down those hills and those straight lines, he's able to attack.
19:30So, that's normal, and that's where he pulls that gap.
19:32But anywhere where these switchbacks is really technical, Hunter Lawrence is closed back up.
19:36So, I think it's more where Hayden's pulling away on the racetrack rather than he's going faster overall around the
19:43racetrack
19:43as Hunter Lawrence closes that gap back up.
19:46All right, about to head uphill.
19:53So, coming down these hills a lot, you'll see Hayden kind of pull that gap because he's really charging down
19:59where Hunter's kind of relaxing.
20:01You can see Hunter breaking early or hopping over stuff.
20:03Hayden's really slamming it in.
20:05And so, he'll open the gap back up.
20:06But when the track slows down and it's more technical, Hunter closes that gap back up.
20:12And to me, he's doing it pretty easy.
20:13So, I think he should wait for that pass.
20:16Uh-oh, got to get around the lap traffic.
20:17It's Vinnie Lou Hovey there.
20:20No worries.
20:25Deegan's been good at that little left-hander.
20:26It's been tough.
20:28On a couple of the riders, landed that jump.
20:31And we're right back where it was.
20:33Yeah, this is a great line by Hayden.
20:34And they're not the fastest line, but right now, Hayden's not worried about chasing Jet.
20:39He's not even worried about going forward.
20:41He's worried about, okay, where Hunter is, like, I need to start learning how to block some of these lines.
20:47So, he's trying to move his way forward, but he also has, he understands that Hunter probably has his number.
20:52So, he needs to try to have that counterattack once he gets close.
20:55And that starts by shutting these lines off.
21:06So, still no change.
21:08It's still Hunter about a second behind.
21:10He got Harrop back here with March Banks.
21:12So, March Banks, I think that's going to be seventh now for him on the Factory Monster Kawasaki.
21:19March Banks gained the most position of any rider last week.
21:23Now, it was unfortunate he got into that crash with Tomac in Moto 1.
21:27He was able to eventually get back on the track, but at a bad finish that led to the bad
21:31gate pick and a bad start in Moto 2.
21:34So, sometimes when you pass the most riders, it's only because of bad news that led you there.
21:39Garrett showing some poise and some speed.
21:43And he moves up.
21:44Yeah, Garrett looked good to me last weekend.
21:47Even off-season videos look good.
21:50So, it's kind of a ride I expected.
21:52But, unfortunately for him, just a bad start and some incidents.
21:57Maybe not getting the results that he wants to, how good he's riding.
22:01Yeah, Garrett said after the race, he figures that he thought Tomac was getting a little off.
22:05He figures that Tomac thought he was going to let off just a racing deal where the two lines came
22:09together.
22:10And, certainly, Eli got the worst of it.
22:13So, again, shout-out to the legend there.
22:16Hope Eli gets well soon.
22:17Ferrandez has now been caught by Hampshire.
22:19Hampshire digging deep, as always.
22:22Yeah, RJ's like, man, don't you got a two-year deal?
22:25All right, I don't have a ride.
22:26Let me get this fast, my man.
22:30Fight is on.
22:31This is for fifth.
22:32Much better for Ferrandez this week, who's just poking around the top ten a week ago.
22:37Now top five, but for how long?
22:40Yeah, we'll see.
22:41I mean, Dylan was kind of stuck in a no-man's land.
22:43He didn't have anybody in front of that he could chase.
22:45So, it was easy to start riding behind you, especially when you got the 24, knowing that he's never going
22:50to give up.
22:51So, Dylan has any kind of pace, and he'll really put this fight up against RJ.
22:54But, RJ seems like he has some great lines going at the moment.
23:04Long way to go up to Prado.
23:07He's 15 seconds ahead of this.
23:13He's starting to see that hard pack really stuff come out.
23:17Choppy braking bumps.
23:24Couple sections still have some moisture left, but other ones have dried out for sure.
23:31RJ's got him in sight.
23:33Got to get around Bozeman in here.
23:38Here's an opening.
23:44Another one.
23:53Not enough.
23:56Back uphill they go.
24:03Yeah, this is a great fight by Dylan.
24:06And I think it goes back to what I was saying earlier about not having that rabbit chase with Jorge.
24:11Because once RJ got there, he's picked up the pace.
24:13And what it does for a rider, it makes you upset you if you're in RJ's spot.
24:18Because you're like, man, I closed in on this guy.
24:20I shouldn't have that pass.
24:21That guy picks it up the pace.
24:22And it makes you nervous.
24:23And it's tough, Katie.
24:25Yeah, it is tough.
24:26Dylan Prandez's pit board, though, says all out.
24:28So, the team wants him to give him his all right now.
24:30But one thing that the team did mention to me earlier is that he is becoming more patient with both
24:36age and experience, patience with the new bike.
24:39But, you know, the other thing about Dylan that was really interesting is it's a new bike, but the team
24:43kind of remained the same.
24:45So, it was less relationship building, but more R&D, building a bike, all from ground zero.
24:49So, it has been a big learning for him, regardless if his personnel is going to learn.
24:54Yeah, thanks, Katie.
24:55Bottom box is Hunter Lawrence on Hayden Deegan again.
24:57Yes, although the Ducati brand is new to this, a lot of the technicians over there with the factory connection
25:04suspension team,
25:05they were working with Miranda the last two years at Phoenix Honda.
25:09So, yep, a lot of familiar faces.
25:12They also used to work with Justin Barsha and Barsha's younger 250 class days.
25:16So, they kind of put the band back together and Barsha rode for TLD when they were a Gas-Gas
25:22team.
25:23The first top five for Ducati.
25:25Pretty much anything for Edith or Barsha gets this year is going to be setting a new bar for Ducati.
25:30But look at this.
25:31Hunter Lawrence, this is as close as he has been with Deegan since the opening lap.
25:36To the inside.
25:41Makes it happen.
25:42Can Deegan come back?
25:44Hey, Deegan's always been great.
25:45I responded, but if he has anything.
25:48There it is.
25:48Yeah, he tried.
25:49He had an opening.
25:51Now, what that does, it just makes Hunter a little nervous a little bit.
25:55Now, he's on the far-end side.
25:59First shot he had him making some contact.
26:01He took it.
26:03And Hunter pours it on.
26:05Yeah, you know it.
26:07But also, Hunter is a veteran.
26:08He kind of understands that.
26:09Look, Hayden's going to take that shot.
26:11But if I could put in a quarter lap as I got a gap now, then Hayden would just take
26:15a third place in good moto.
26:17Hunter Lawrence has been applying that pressure that whole time, just waiting for the moment.
26:22I think he realized that Jets on a different level.
26:25I'm not going to catch him.
26:26So, I'm going to sit here, wear this rookie out, learn about him, see where he's good at.
26:30So, when Hayden gets better, I'm learning as well.
26:33Now, he's putting in that tack.
26:35Easy work.
26:36Oh, man, class in management there.
26:40He had the gap at almost exactly 1.3 seconds for about 15 straight minutes.
26:46It stayed almost exactly where it was the whole time.
26:49Pours it on, makes the move.
26:52All that being said, though, still a step in the right direction for Deegan, even though he just got past.
26:58I mean, yeah, I mean, I honestly didn't think he broke bad last weekend.
27:02Okay.
27:02I think what he's understanding is that these two Honda boys, they're good.
27:06Okay.
27:06They're really good.
27:08And so, there's just a level.
27:09But, I mean, the kid's broke good.
27:11Bad Stars, 4-5.
27:12But, Gutkart, he's in the top three.
27:14But, nobody's at this level at this moment right now.
27:20I'm going to check out Jett here.
27:24And it's the right foot, by the way, that has the injury.
27:26And there he is getting on that brake.
27:27So, they raised the brake pedal.
27:29That's the one in front of his foot there.
27:32Yeah.
27:32So, this is what Katie was talking about, Jett raising his foot on his rear brake.
27:38And this is being able to have that flexibility.
27:41Imagine your ankle not being able to move as much.
27:43So, he has to lift his foot up to actually tap the rear brake, depending on what angle he comes
27:48in.
27:48And that's an adjustment.
27:50It's a huge adjustment for a rider.
27:51We've seen guys do this.
27:52You think about Max Boland in the 250 class, learning how to use a rear handbrake.
27:57It takes time.
27:58And if it only took a race, and this is where we're at, you know, it's going to be pretty
28:05good.
28:06Yeah.
28:07He said the lack of range of motion.
28:09So, you've got to press down on that pedal.
28:11And he doesn't have full rotation down with the foot.
28:14So, they just have the pedal start higher.
28:16So, he doesn't have to push down as far on it.
28:20But I've got to imagine he has so many instincts built up.
28:23Yeah, it is.
28:25And the rear brake does a lot more to just stopping.
28:27These guys use it.
28:28I mean, they tap the rear brakes in the air to change the angle of the bike.
28:32They can hold it down to keep the suspension from bouncing up.
28:34So, it's a lot of places they would use the rear brake, JT.
28:38Guys, I'll be honest with you.
28:40I did not expect JT to look like this in week two.
28:44After watching last weekend, he did not look right to me.
28:47Watching him limp off the podium, I was in pain watching him try to walk.
28:52I just didn't think we would see this quick of a turnaround.
28:54And I know it's only one moto through the day.
28:57But watching him in qualifying, watching him in his first moto firmly in command,
29:01this is a really, really quick recovery.
29:04And if it's only going to get better from here, these guys better buckle up.
29:09I'm with you, JT.
29:10I think some fans watching were just concerned like, oh, no,
29:13is JT Lawrence just going to be diminished in general?
29:17And it was going to be a long time, maybe,
29:19where we'd really get an answer to that question.
29:21He might be answering it right now that it's A-OK.
29:25Because this looks eerily like his previous two championship seasons
29:30and a whole lot better than a week ago.
29:31Yeah, I think the concern was just health and how that foot could be.
29:35Obviously, he's got a great team, so they did a lot of work.
29:38And I love the management that they used, whether they chose not to ride here on days.
29:42It's working out.
29:43But it was never going to be about, like, could he have speed and all that.
29:47This kid has so much talent.
29:49And if he could have the help and get on the motorcycle,
29:52he'll figure out how to ride around the rear brake or whatever issues he's dealing with.
29:56And to me, that's what's happened this first moto.
29:59I go back to what I said in practice, how big that was for JT Lawrence to have that speed.
30:03So now he knows he can go fast.
30:05Even if it hurts, he can go fast.
30:07And now being out front, he got more comfortable.
30:10And he's learning how to race in a place where he's so used to being up front.
30:15And this is what you get.
30:16Now, you told me earlier today something that's so interesting, the mind of an athlete.
30:20Pain, you're saying, isn't really the problem.
30:22It's performance.
30:23If you have speed, you deal with the pain.
30:25No, absolutely.
30:26I mean, I think for us, you know, the pain is normal.
30:29Like, every time we come out, it's hard.
30:32But as an athlete, the thing that fears you the most is you've not been able to do what you
30:36do best.
30:37So if that's JT Lawrence, it's speed.
30:39Coming to the first race, you know, like, all right, I know my foot's going to hurt.
30:42But if I'm in practice and I'm trying to go fast and I'm third and I'm way down, that kills
30:48a rider.
30:48And all this work is for nothing.
30:50And you can kind of see that's how it works with other guys and the mentality.
30:53So Jett having that speed, that second practice, the way he did, you saw the difference.
30:59And this part, getting on the racetrack, getting used, is easy.
31:02That's going to happen.
31:03If you put this guy out front, he's going to get easy.
31:05Speed is one thing that you can't, you either have it or you don't.
31:09Jett Lawrence found it.
31:10Now he's found himself 10 seconds out front as well.
31:12Oh, man.
31:13Only took seven days.
31:15What a massive improvement.
31:16Obviously, the start, getting that hole shot is a big part of it as well.
31:20But this is quality and quantity weight.
31:23It's not just the victory.
31:24It's not just the start.
31:26It's how well he rode to get it.
31:28He left Deegan in the dust.
31:29He did the same thing to Hunter, who was back there dealing with Deegan.
31:32And honestly, you do not often see this big of a lead.
31:35This is actually a big lead based on how Jett normally runs these races.
31:40Yeah, I agree.
31:40But that being said, that 96, I know he's not going to lose any confidence in himself.
31:47And I will say that Jett really put it to Hayden.
31:50But I think early, I mean, he put it to all these guys.
31:52But early in this race, Hunter Lawrence saw that.
31:54That pace to run my brother down is not going to happen.
31:57He put all his weight on just beating Hayden Deegan.
31:59So I don't think Hunter Lawrence was racing this guy after a few laps.
32:03I think Hunter is riding great.
32:05He's keeping his gaps 10 seconds.
32:06If they broke out front, this is going to be a really close race, even though this gap is really
32:11big.
32:12Yeah, Moto 2 could be a rematch.
32:14Yeah, so you think if Hunter almost made that pass on Deegan immediately, had he done that, we might be
32:19in for a battle here.
32:20Well, the answer to that, I think it just shows you when Hunter, like you said, he stayed within two
32:25seconds of Hayden Deegan for 20 minutes.
32:27I mean, he was just sitting back, just waiting for him, seeing when he wanted to make that pass, seeing
32:31where Hayden was.
32:32That's the type of rider Hunter Lawrence is.
32:34So once he realized that jet is too far, I'm not taking that risk, but I'm going to beat everybody
32:40else.
32:40So Hunter knows that game, and trust me, he's fine.
32:44Another thing to watch here, Prado is hammering down.
32:47He just ran a 157.9, second quickest rider on the track behind Hunter.
32:52And he has taken what was a big gap to Deegan, down to just four seconds, and he is going
32:58three seconds a lot faster at the moment.
33:00Now you figure Deegan might be managing it, could probably ramp it back up if 26 gets close.
33:07We'll have to keep an eye on that.
33:08That would be for the Moto podium.
33:11But Prado, I wouldn't imagine he's throwing down 157s if he didn't have at least a bit of hope that
33:16he could get there.
33:17Yeah.
33:18Uh-oh.
33:18Yeah, I believe he went down.
33:19Well, I think he was going for it.
33:21Yeah.
33:22Yep.
33:22But going to my point, I was going to say, Jorge Prado is just like, I mean, um...
33:28That's it.
33:29Off the track.
33:30Yeah, that looks like a bike issue to me.
33:32Wait a minute.
33:33Wait a minute.
33:34Is he done?
33:36Yeah.
33:37Unreal.
33:38Second of the points coming into this race.
33:41I thought maybe it was off track and losing a few positions.
33:43No, he's dropping all the way down the board on timing and scoring, and this is a disaster for one
33:49of the title contenders.
33:50Jorge Prado appears to be out, and St. Lawrence appears to be back.
33:59And this kid's looking good.
34:02Answer to start.
34:04He found some answers that he was looking for himself, and now he's able to sit down, recover, so he's
34:11not taxing his body.
34:13Looks good.
34:14Well, with Deegan moving into this class, and Prado certainly improving this year,
34:18I think everyone just wanted to see everyone have a shot at it.
34:22Whether you're a Jett Lawrence fan or not, you certainly want to see all the contenders there.
34:25It's unfortunate that Tomac got lost last week from this field.
34:30We hope we get him back.
34:30But you do want to see Jett Lawrence do Jett Lawrence things, and may the best man win these races
34:36and this title.
34:37And this is a huge step forward.
34:39If you want to see Jett Lawrence at his best, he's certainly a lot closer today, and it's got to
34:44feel good.
34:47Well, he's won a lot of these, but this one is one of the biggest.
34:51Jett Lawrence returns to the number one spot, taking a moto win in pro motocross.
34:58So I yanked those taros off.
35:00Love it.
35:01The authority to champ is back.
35:02And look at RJ and Dylan Perrandez.
35:04Of course, going for it all the way to the end.
35:07Nope.
35:09Perrandez fourth.
35:10Hampshire not giving up, but might be out of time.
35:13Great ride by both of these guys, but, yeah, Dylan didn't have that gap in front of him, that rabbit.
35:19Hard to race for, but when RJ got there, no friendship moves here.
35:24Hey, Jett got better, Deegan got better, but that's a big improvement for Ferrandez on the Ducati.
35:29Top five, that's the first ever for them.
35:32And you've got a whole cup under fire from Hampshire.
35:36But here's the story.
35:3845 moto wins in this class.
35:40Already near the two-time champion and this year's Supercross champion, Ken Rockson.
35:45A few are bigger.
35:56They debrief.
35:57But this is not an ordinary moto one win.
35:59Get ready.
