00:00Foxhole shot in race 1, the fly race in 15 second order for the final time this weekend, the MXGP
00:04of France, second MXGP race here, 30 minutes plus 2, Hurlings once again inside gate on the 84, the 74
00:11of Kyder Wolf alongside him with gate number 2, where's the start going to come from, Kunin in gate 3
00:15there, the number 5, everybody away, it was Kunin in race 1, but it's Tom Bial, oh he bounced his
00:23way through the turn and it's going to be, oh that is a big crash there,
00:27as everybody comes from right to left, that was huge, it had to be Bial, Bial, had to be Bial,
00:35had to be Bial, yeah, coming back, he bounced back from that outside towards the inside, that was a big
00:41hit there because he got bumped to the outside there and then as he started to come across, everybody else
00:47was coming through from sort of left to middle and it's a, you know, it looks like a straight but
00:51it's actually more of a chicane, you know, the further out you're going, Geis has gone down as well and
00:55C was down,
00:56and Fernandes is down we're told, no Fernandes there in 4 thankfully, Fernandes is there in 4, yeah, so maybe
01:03the 10 then of Bialandran but, wow, yeah that was scary, spectacular crash and hopefully everybody's okay there but that
01:11bike that was cartwheeling down the track,
01:15but it is Lucas Coonan who leads the way, hurling second, Caida Wolf there in third, Fernandes has been passed
01:22by Maxime Renault, Renault then moving into 4th place.
01:27See, they've worked on a couple areas of the racetrack which these riders are going to be very excited about,
01:33love that when you go out for your siding lap and they've made the track, made life a lot easier
01:37honestly.
01:38Well Lucas Coonan, over the line, he leads again, hurlings this time in second, in a position to try and
01:46do something about him early on rather than take 3, 4 laps to find his way past, we've still got
01:51wave jellos here.
01:52Red flag, red flag, red flag, red flag, yeah.
01:58So our FIM race direct, I just looked up there and just saw the yellows around the corner, you clocked
02:02the red flag there, so yeah, massive carnage then, through the first turn on the exit, just as it pinched
02:13itself back but Tom Bial looked like he'd done what he did in the first, in the qualifying race where
02:17he came from a middle-ish gate, wanted to sweep across but as he was just in that zone,
02:22and it just dug in and stood him up, had that not been the case, he wouldn't have had to
02:25have gone wide, but at some point he would have had to have come back here.
02:29Yeah, you're 100%.
02:30And we're going to see a replay here then, so Tom Bial, about 5 gates over on the right-hand
02:34side, next to the Kawasaki of Jonas, he comes in here.
02:37That first pop outside changes everything, right there, that changes the entire dynamic.
02:42But also, as he comes back, oh, he's off the bank, there, look, and then, oh, Geyser, and look at
02:48the right as he collects here.
02:50Roman Papp and Bial down, Geyser, Oliver, Van Donick, more winded, I think, Tom Bial, Roman Papp in there.
03:04That escalated quickly.
03:05That was heavy.
03:07Everybody will be back to the line for a restart, full restart, look more like a dead leg possibly for
03:17the 243 of Tim Geyser.
03:19The bike there, a little bit second-hand like it's rider, Honda HRC Petronas, Tom Bial.
03:25But Lucas Cooner, he'll just come back, what happened, they'll say, yeah, big crash, this, that, and the other, blah,
03:30blah, blah.
03:32And he will just try to focus again.
03:35I think everybody must be okay because we're seeing a replay here now from the drone cam.
03:39Watch Bial, tries to get across, and then he just stands himself up there.
03:44Gets us into a soft spot.
03:46And then off the bank, here, look.
03:47There, soft spot, yeah.
03:49And then that was him going through out the side door as the back end came around.
03:53He's walking back here, look.
03:55Good to see him picking himself up.
03:57He looks relatively okay.
03:59And I think he will rejoin the race.
04:01If his bike is okay.
04:03So how does the regulation work?
04:04Because it doesn't change anything for him, even though he was arguably the root cause, he's still eligible to rejoin?
04:12There's the, yeah, I mean, there's the gray area.
04:15I'm just waiting for some news now just to come in just to sort of see if that is the
04:20case.
04:32So we're just waiting here at the moment.
04:34But I think, I think he's okay.
04:37The race hasn't got a full lap.
04:39I think the red flag was more because there was probably more carnage in the track in general.
04:44But look at the state of the bike there.
04:46He's definitely not going to be right in that one, that's for sure.
04:50That was the replay of earlier.
04:52Lucas Kudan, he'll just do his best to stay focused.
04:58Yeah, but you know, he's frustrated.
04:59You got the starting one and got out front again.
05:01But realistically, you have to understand that this is out of your control and you just have to execute again.
05:07You have to execute the same plan you've been executing all day.
05:10Yeah.
05:11But an opportunity for other riders who maybe did make the best start to find their way into a better
05:18position this time around.
05:19And maybe even challenge them for those top three, top five positions, maybe even podiums and things like that.
05:25Race one was a win for Lucas Kuhnen.
05:27Jeffrey Herlings was second.
05:27Tim Geis was third.
05:28He got caught in that first turn crash.
05:30Kaido Wolf fourth, Andrea Adamo fifth, Maximo sixth, Romain Febvre seventh.
05:35Bial was eighth in race one ahead of Ruben Fernandes and Andrea Bonacorsi.
05:39Cavana was tenth, eleventh on the second of the Red Bull Ducatis.
05:44So it'll just be interesting to see how this one plays out.
05:47So apologies for the delay here.
05:48Everybody back there just re-prepping that start straight.
06:00And we're hearing at the moment that maybe even Tim Geiser might not line up for the race.
06:06Certainly not to be seen on the grid at the moment, but we will see.
06:12So I'm not sure whether that's just a case of, because obviously Marcus here is very prominent in the images
06:20there.
06:21I don't know if that's just because he's feeling a little bit beat up, Tim Geiser.
06:25But as you said, like you've got Vial there with the doctor.
06:30Giacomo Garibaldi there with the shades, team owner.
06:36Jackie Vimon just walking away in the opposite direction.
06:47So the start prep going on there.
06:51There's got to be some feverish work going on on Tom Bial's motorcycle at the moment.
06:55If they're, I'm assuming they have to use that same motorcycle, that it needed a lot of work.
07:02So like I say, just waiting to hear.
07:08We will go back to the gate in three minutes from now, 17.20.
07:12Vial will be lining up.
07:14So yes, all riders are eligible to line up.
07:16That would appear to be the case.
07:20Geiser's bike is nowhere to be seen.
07:22I've heard that Geiser may have already returned back to the paddock and the team truck.
07:26But waiting on confirmation of that as well.
07:31Because any work that needs to be carried on probably needs to be done in the front of the waiting
07:34zone there.
07:35rather than behind.
07:41But at the same time, you will be able to pull out your fresh air, I would imagine.
07:45Because that bike looks pretty clean from Tom Bial.
07:48It looks like the second motorcycle.
07:50I'm surprised he's allowed to use the second bike.
07:53So if you're on the sighting lap, you're not allowed to go into pit lane on the sighting lap.
07:57You have to come back.
07:58But if you have a problem with your bike on the sighting lap, your bike will be here in the
08:01waiting zone or behind the waiting zone.
08:03And so you're able to use that on the sighting lap.
08:05So because the race hasn't gone one lap and we've got a full restart, everybody's eligible.
08:12And everybody, you have the option then to run that second bike because obviously it was damaged.
08:16So Tom Bial definitely gets a second chance there.
08:19That's for sure.
08:21It doesn't look like they've let him go to the gate yet.
08:24So I don't know if he loses his gate position.
08:26Uh, where was he?
08:28Uh, 8th?
08:29Yeah.
08:29Oh, Geiser is there.
08:30Greg Geiser is back, but...
08:32Yeah, so Geiser is back.
08:33Yeah, so Geiser is back.
08:34Yeah, so Geiser is back.
08:34Yeah, so Geiser is back.
08:34Yeah, so Geiser is still in the holding position.
08:36So Geiser losing out here because he was, uh...
08:39Where was he in the qualifying race yesterday?
08:42He was third.
08:43Six in the qualifying race.
08:45Oh, sorry.
08:45Oh, sorry.
08:45Six in the qualifying race.
08:48It's not possible to listen to you.
08:51Once again.
08:52Waiting for permission, I think.
08:54So he got to Pauline.
08:55French legend in the background.
08:57So just a little bit of confusion here.
08:58Yeah.
09:10So maybe the second bike rule is not an option.
09:14And, uh, so we wait to see for news.
09:16I'm just waiting here.
09:18I'm in direct contact here.
09:30So what's...
09:31Was Vial's bike that we saw being pushed the damaged bike, or was that the spare bike, or not?
09:37He's obviously not taking his position behind the gate.
09:40See, uh, his father there lobbying behind him.
09:43He's not the one of the Geiser.
09:45He knows he's not about...
09:46There's a lot of noise about...
09:47Geiser down there in pit lane as well.
09:51Yeah, this is tough.
09:52Up against the clock to get the restart going.
09:54And two of the biggest protagonists in the series are...
09:58Unsure if they can race or not.
10:13We'll just have a slight delay here.
10:15There's Tim Geiser.
10:17The Monster Energy Yamaha rider.
10:19It's clearly on his second bike as was Seward.
10:22Did you see how clean Seward's bike was?
10:23Was it Seward or was it, uh...
10:25Oh yeah, Vialandran also fell in that, didn't he?
10:27But I don't know.
10:28He's not allowed there.
10:28Because he's not allowed there.
10:30Because he's not allowed there.
10:31So we're hearing there that he's not allowed for the spare bike.
10:34There, from, uh...
10:36See how clean Seward's bike is?
10:38It has to be...
10:39It has to be a second bike.
10:41Got dirt on the wheels, though.
10:45So, cannot take the second bike, is what we're being told.
10:48And, uh, Tim Geiser being told he has to leave the start gate.
10:53So that's why we have the delay.
11:00And that's tough, because you've not gone a lap both for...
11:03And Seward as well.
11:04Oh no, he's just moving over a gate.
11:05He's moving over, okay.
11:07So, Tim Geiser then.
11:09I mean, that's effectively...
11:11You don't want to say championship done, but that is a huge blow.
11:14Well, it's at least costing him 25 points.
11:15Yeah.
11:16Because, uh, even though he's walking away now, I'm not sure...
11:19I don't think it was the fact that he was still down.
11:21Obviously, he picked himself up, but maybe his bike was so badly damaged,
11:24thought maybe we could go and get the spare bike, but obviously not.
11:27And obviously, Honda's saying their bit and getting involved, saying, like,
11:30well, Geiser's taking his.
11:31Why can't we take hours?
11:33Which is a fair claim, yeah.
11:34You know, but obviously, first lap hasn't been completed.
11:39You can change your bike at the end of the sighting lap, but I guess not in this case.
11:44You know, from, uh, after the restart or for a restart.
11:47Yeah, I'm not...
11:48I get it when it's, like, gone three laps or more, and then you have a staggered start situation.
11:52That's fine.
11:53Once again, though, the fly race in 15-second board up for the final time today.
11:56Yeah, it's, uh, what a wild turn of events.
11:59I'm just glad everybody's okay.
12:00I know that's not great for the championship, but that could have been a lot worse.
12:05Five-second board turns.
12:06We get to go again.
12:16Kaida Wolf looking.
12:18Oh, we've got riders crashing going into the turn this time.
12:21And again, through there.
12:23One of them looked like it might have been Jonas on the cow sacking.
12:26So more carnage once again coming out of that same part of the racetrack.
12:30But it's Hurling's who leads the way immediately coming out of the second,
12:34you know, the next couple of corners.
12:35Kunin to second.
12:37And, uh, DeWolf getting pushed down to third.
12:43And there is, uh, Maxime Renault as well.
12:47So it's, uh, Hurling's who leads the way.
12:49But it looked like the 74 of DeWolf who grabbed the foxhole shot there that time around.
12:55Hurling's wasting no time getting into the lead, though.
12:58DeWolf going with him immediately.
13:00Yeah, Lucas really aggressive getting around DeWolf there,
13:02which I would argue he needs to be.
13:04Uh, the last thing he can do is let Jeffrey get a gap here.
13:08But Jonas getting caught.
13:10Van Donen getting caught.
13:11Pants are getting caught.
13:12In that, uh, restart.
13:14A couple of riders going through the first turn as well.
13:17Just behind them.
13:21DeWolf here under attack in third from the 959.
13:25But Maxime Renault, Fevre right there.
13:27So too, Adamo and Fernandez in seventh place.
13:30Oh, Fernandez offline.
13:32That allows Adamo to, uh, maintain that position.
13:37Let's get him over the line here.
13:39Hurling's leading the way by 1.3 seconds over Lucas Coonan.
13:42Then we've got DeWolf.
13:43Fernandez, Fevre.
13:43Adamo, six.
13:44Fernandez, seven.
13:45Kevin Haugmo, eight.
13:46Honda Motor Blues SR, uh, Motel.
13:49Ninth for Ben Watson.
13:50Dirtstore, Triumph.
13:51And then we've got 10th place.
13:53Oriol Oliveira on the Gabriel SS 24 KTM.
13:57Gratiewski, Bonacorsi, Ferrato, Kietz, Roman Pat, Valandrin, Siwa 17, Sue, Bromant and Tuani.
14:02They are your top 20.
14:04Van Donen was one of those riders that got caught in that restart crash.
14:08So too was the 32 of Van Donen.
14:11So Jonas and Van Donen and Pantsa.
14:18Sun not dropping so low like it will in the winter or the early months.
14:21Where it becomes a problem this time of year.
14:24Still a bit tricky under the trees there.
14:26But it could be a lot worse.
14:28Gets very spotty, doesn't it?
14:29You kind of see a bright light spot.
14:31And then all of a sudden the dark patch.
14:32Not so bad here because it's just a short spell.
14:34But that turn 4-5 is a real problem.
14:38Yeah, you just can't see the run.
14:39You can't see the bump.
14:40You can't see the run.
14:41And, uh, not.
14:42And this track's already tricky enough without that.
14:44Hurling's under attack here from Lucas Coonan.
14:47So the Honda HRC Patronus rider under attack from the Red Bull KTM.
14:51As they battle for the lead.
14:53A nice line there for Lucas Coonan.
14:55But he had to go a long way around to make that sort of pay dividends.
14:59So he probably lost 20 yards.
15:01Pulled it back by the time he got into that next corner.
15:03So gave some, took some back.
15:05Didn't really affect the outcome.
15:06But might come into play later on in the race.
15:10And then, you know, rule of thumb using the outside.
15:11You better be going really fast around that outside if you're going to add, you know, 10 meters of range
15:15track.
15:17Coonan was the fastest on the track.
15:19That time around by about two or three tenths.
15:221.37.8.
15:241.37.5.
15:25Hurling's and Coonan, respectively.
15:26DeWolf was a 38.7.
15:2839s for Renault.
15:30Fevre and Fernandez.
15:3241s for Adamo down to Oliver in Nike.
15:38Kind of wondering what the strategy will be here.
15:40Clearly they have the pace on the racetrack.
15:43They're already building a gap as we speak.
15:46Will Lucas sit there or will he attack?
15:49You know, I think he would like to attack early.
15:51But if Jeffrey can hold him off, he may force a weight battle.
15:55Coming into the race, it was five points, wasn't it, between Lucas Coonan and Jeffrey Hurling.
15:59Stays like this, as you can see, goes down at two points.
16:03Lucas Coonan will stay in red as we head to Germany a week from now.
16:07Teuschenthal.
16:08So the championship hotting up just nicely.
16:11Just like this battle here.
16:14Between DeWolf, Renault and Fevre.
16:16Third, fourth and fifth.
16:19The noise around this racetrack for the two French riders here in that fourth and fifth place.
16:24Yamaha versus Kawasaki.
16:26That's where you get the issues as well, where the shadowing on the ruts.
16:30And maybe jumping into the sunlight this time of day as well.
16:33And the unpredictability of those ruts.
16:35Yeah.
16:35And it's so fast, your eyes transition, can't catch up.
16:38So it's virtually like someone turns the lights off for a split second.
16:42Slight error there for Kaido Wolf.
16:44Manages to rectify that mistake, though.
16:49Looser dirt around the outside.
16:51Well, I'll tell you what.
16:51Face full of roots there from Fevre.
16:52Had to look away to his right.
16:55Would have still rattled off the side of his helmet with some good force, though.
17:02Nothing in it between the top two either.
17:04Hurlings and Kunitz still 1.2 apart.
17:06As they were at the start of the lap.
17:08We're now on lap three.
17:12It's a drag race down there.
17:15Straight there.
17:17Underneath the whole shot banner.
17:19These two will be tied for the top step of the podium.
17:2247 apiece.
17:22Because Hurling's second in race one.
17:24Leading race two.
17:26Kunitz, your winner in race one.
17:28Second in race two at the moment.
17:29DeWolf on the podium.
17:3138 points.
17:31He'll be third overall for the second time this year.
17:35He got on the podium in Sardinia round four.
17:40But he's got five points in hand over Max and Renault.
17:44And here's Roman Fevre.
17:46Changing that immediately because he goes past the 959.
17:49And moves into fourth position.
17:53Renault fighting back.
17:54Had to pull his leg in there.
17:55Otherwise, he was going to get it chopped off by the front end of the Kawasaki.
17:58Yeah.
17:59French Motocrosser Nation's teammates here.
18:00They're probably sick of battling each other.
18:02They've been near each other this entire weekend.
18:05I don't think they're the best of friends.
18:07No.
18:07To be fair.
18:08No.
18:09Doesn't help.
18:13So, Fevre up.
18:14Up to fourth.
18:19Kyla Wolf under pressure from the number one.
18:22It's a five-time champ.
18:2484.
18:24Jeffrey Hurling's.
18:26Hits the line.
18:27Three laps complete.
18:28137.
18:29297 for him.
18:29137, 747 for this guy here.
18:32Lucas Coonan, Red Bull KTM.
18:341.7 seconds.
18:35The gap.
18:39Between first and second.
18:42Focus has to be absolutely paramount.
18:45Lucas Coonan still.
18:48That youthful exuberance.
18:50No fear.
18:52Will he just sit back there?
18:53Wasn't able to execute and make that push count in the first couple of laps.
18:58But you never know.
18:59Second half of the race, he may just keep him on a bit of a sort of short leash and
19:04reel him in.
19:04But that's also a dangerous game to play because we also know how strong the bullet is in the latter
19:08stages of the race as well.
19:10Would you rather be leading here or be able to sit back and watch the leader?
19:14You know what?
19:15I think if you feel that you've got a bit in hand, you can sit there, can't you?
19:18But it goes back to what we were talking about on the podcast between Kenny Rockson and Hunter Lawrence and
19:24the Supercross.
19:24You know, it seemed to be that Kenny Rockson slowed his pace down when he took the lead on the
19:29opening lap in Salt Lake.
19:31Completely different strategy to what he would normally do where he'd probably go for the first 10, 12 laps.
19:36You know what I mean?
19:36Yeah.
19:38Or 10, 12 minutes.
19:39And that may be caught Hunter Lawrence off guard to the point where he then settled into a pace that
19:43he wasn't comfortable with.
19:44One of those where he's, you know, just a bit off the pace for normal.
19:48And then you've got too much time to think there, oh, yeah, I can just sit here.
19:50But then when you get pressure from behind, all of a sudden that changes things, as we saw with Prado
19:54and whatever else.
19:55But I think if you've got pace in hand and you're comfortable sitting there with this kind of gap behind
20:01you, yeah, why not?
20:03Otherwise, go put the pressure on the rider that you're chasing down.
20:06And that's, I think, what Kunin needs to do, maybe, is just chase down Hurlings, put him under pressure, see
20:12if there's a mistake.
20:13And have that little bit of a dogfight.
20:16Just like Roman Fevers doing here to Kaida Wolf.
20:20Wolf riding a very wide house farther there through that.
20:23A couple of corners.
20:24Trevor's going to really try to make a move.
20:25You don't want to sit in this roof zone, that's for sure.
20:29See if you get underneath him here.
20:31Thought about it.
20:31The Wolf very tight.
20:33This is the battle for third in the race.
20:36Third overall in the Grand Prix will belong to Kaida Wolf as it stays right now, even if Roman Fevers
20:43goes by.
20:47See the rocks really starting to come to the foreground as well, come to the surface.
20:53The light patches on the racetrack, hard pack, going to Blue Groove, where the ground is then very hard and
20:58slick and baked by this French sun.
21:08Can DeWolf hang on to this here?
21:10That's the question.
21:13Fevers going to make it very difficult for him.
21:15Doesn't want to let the French fans down.
21:19Try to get underneath, but again, DeWolf sort of kept him to the outside there, wasn't able to then cut
21:25to the inside.
21:27Yeah, Fevers just got to force it to happen here.
21:31So tough to pass.
21:32I was going to add on the, we were talking about would you rather be out front or be at
21:36second.
21:37I think I would be more comfortable where Lucas is, but this track has proven so difficult to pass, which
21:44is a little bit of a feather in Jeffrey's cap.
21:46Kind of walk on that Liqui Moly downhill.
21:48He's actually jumping over that now, treating it like a double jump.
21:52But it's not giving him any extra time in the pocket, is it?
21:57Because Fevers right there, still ready to pass, but just can't find his way through at the moment.
22:02Because now that the circuit is drying out, it's becoming very loose and slick, and those marbles coming to the
22:07surface, making it unpredictable front end, back end.
22:09You don't know how much to push, how much to trust the tires underneath you, no matter which brand you
22:15ride for.
22:16You know, it's just literally, that's how it is when it starts to dry out.
22:20And you hop out of the main line, trying to get traction is really difficult, but he was able to
22:24close back in.
22:26I just don't know where he's going to be able to make a move.
22:28He's got to be careful, though, if he gets too out of line, Renault will try to make a move
22:32from behind him.
22:40Fevra hopping over that last wave, using that downside.
22:45That's probably what, well, Lucas Kunin overjumped that, didn't he, in the first race, OJ'd into the ruts.
22:50It's not a lot of fun to sit right there, though.
22:52You're just getting pelted.
22:55He'll try again this time.
22:58To hit the back brake.
23:02Thought he was going to just hit the back brake and do what Roman Fevra does so very well,
23:05where he could just, like, let off and slide and roll the throttle and maybe squeeze up the inside,
23:10get to the left and maybe cut to the right on the run-up to the jump we've just seen
23:13there in the background,
23:14but wasn't able to.
23:15Use that supermoto experience.
23:17Yeah.
23:18You just see him swerving all over the place.
23:19He is trying to stay out of that ruse, but, man, the rocks on this track,
23:23you really can't see them, but there are tons of rocks in the base.
23:26Yeah.
23:28Let's see.
23:28Look how light the ground is there, the complexion of the circuit.
23:31Yeah, okay, it's flattened out by the quality of the image there, but it's still, you've got the sun blasting
23:37down,
23:38so you don't always see the clarity of those bumps when the sun is there like that.
23:42From behind, you maybe see a little bit of shadow in.
23:44From the side, you also see that kind of definition.
23:49But Fevra just having to venture off the obvious line at the moment
23:55because Kaido Wurf is making it very, very difficult for him.
23:58Less than a second between Hurlings and Kunin here.
24:01Kunin has sat back.
24:02Kunin maybe did feel that he has a little bit of reserve
24:05to be able to be confident in his ability to take that chance
24:09and avoid being roosted, save some tear-off, save that visibility.
24:14Letting Jeffrey off the hook just ever so slightly,
24:16but Hurlings, a wily old character, not thinking for a minute that
24:20Kunin fading sort of, you know, sort of five, six laps into the race.
24:26And Hurlings is now the rider under attack.
24:30As the Belgian chases the Dutchman on lap seven here.
24:35And now that he's got this speed, this momentum to get onto the rear wheel,
24:39he's obviously found some lines, found some confidence,
24:42and he'll be hoping, you know what,
24:44try and do this in one foul swoop.
24:47Round the outside, keep that momentum going,
24:50get your opportunity, take it, and maybe try and run with it.
24:52Just depends on the response that we get from Hurlings if that happens.
24:56Just like we're getting here, this battle for third.
25:01Roma's frustration level is about 1,000 out of 10 right now.
25:06Don't say.
25:09Are we going to, no, you can't get across there anymore.
25:11That was freshly prepped for a mixed two, wasn't it?
25:14Yeah, they were cutting back across that inside.
25:16But you've got two definitive lines, two ruts.
25:18Yeah, and all that traction that was there is so much harder now
25:22for everybody using it and the sun baking it.
25:26So two battles, first and second, third and fourth.
25:29This is the latter.
25:32DeWolf and Roma Fevera will try to outbreak if he can,
25:36but DeWolf is also very good on the brakes, don't forget.
25:39You know, the tough part for Fevera here too is once you show
25:42the passing lines a couple of times and DeWolf defends him,
25:44he knows where you're going to go.
25:45So he's able to plan for that and it just gets,
25:48life just gets that much more difficult.
25:51He's got to try to surprise, either wait for a mistake
25:53or try to surprise him somewhere.
25:55This is that section under the trees that we're talking about,
25:56how long it is and it's downhill off camp
25:59and there's so much going on in those ruts that we can't see
26:01and there's so many holes and rocks as well.
26:03But he gets around the outside.
26:06Got to push it here.
26:07Got to push it here.
26:08Got to, oh, he does.
26:09Use him as a berm, runs him wide.
26:11Fevera now in the third place.
26:19D'Wolf trying to come back for more though.
26:24Taking the best part, what, seven, eight laps to find his way past
26:28the Husqvarna rider in the Starn Husqvarna.
26:34See, he's doubling down there, Kai D'Wolf.
26:36He's obviously found a little nick somewhere and he comes back immediately.
26:40Fevera wasn't expecting that.
26:42Oh, that was close.
26:43Right to left for D'Wolf.
26:45Fevera now, well, if he was spewing before that,
26:48guess what?
26:50He's anger, his rage is through the roof.
26:53He is redlining as we speak.
26:56Fighting hard for that third place.
27:03But he loses third again immediately to Fevera.
27:07Right at the start of lap nine.
27:09And I think Fevera has a lot more pace.
27:11I really do.
27:12He was able to just sit on him, try every line in the world
27:14and continue to sit on him.
27:15So I would be shocked if Fevera wasn't able to pull a gap here.
27:19You know what?
27:20If Maxim Renaud finds his way past Kai D'Wolf,
27:22that puts Roman Fevera on the podium.
27:24Because at the moment, he's two points behind
27:29in that battle.
27:30D'Wolf on 36, Fevera on 34, Renaud on 31.
27:34Remember, it's 25 for a win, 22-20,
27:37which is where Fevera is at the moment.
27:39You see him immediately pulling out.
27:41Yeah.
27:44The Maxim Renaud would have probably seen
27:49how Fevera was able to find his way through.
27:51You see him pull the clutch and half full of gas.
27:53Heard it from here as well.
27:55And Renaud is going to park his way down the inside.
27:58Two kit for that one.
28:00Well, don't forget, he watched that entire battle.
28:02So he knew how difficult this was going to be.
28:04So he's not wasting any time.
28:06Kai D'Wolf thought that Maxim Renaud was going to have to
28:08run it down the inside.
28:11But he thought, no, I'm going to hit the brakes.
28:13Maxim Renaud read him like a book.
28:16Oh, look at Kai pushing in there.
28:18Wow.
28:19Fantastic.
28:20Yes.
28:20Banging bars.
28:21These two absolutely tearing strips off of each other.
28:25Well, D'Wolf said he wanted to come into this MXGP class,
28:28ruffle a few feathers,
28:29fight with the likes of Lucas Kunin
28:31and Jeffrey Herlings as he did in the qualifying race.
28:34Well, he does the same again here.
28:36He's taken the challenge to Roman Fevre,
28:38the defending champion
28:39and former NX2 world champion, of course,
28:42from a handful of years ago.
28:44Maxim Renaud.
28:46Not scared, is he?
28:48No.
28:48I think Maxim's going to make some contact here, right?
28:50Oh, here we go.
28:51Yeah.
28:52Couldn't quite tag the front end.
28:54Got that inside, though.
28:55D'Wolf far too wide through there.
28:58The architect of his own downfall
29:00in that particular moment.
29:03And we've got third and fourth now,
29:05Fevre and Renaud.
29:07And Fevre will climb the podium here at home
29:10if it stays like that.
29:21What's the gap between these two?
29:22Still hovering around about a second.
29:251.1, something like that.
29:27As the Honda continues to lead the KTM
29:29through this downhill sweeping.
29:31Right-hand turn, turn nine,
29:33before stepping up over the Monster Energy Double
29:35onto this plateau.
29:37It doesn't look like it there,
29:38but it's a lot more,
29:40it's only very slight,
29:41but more uphill than it appears on camera.
29:43Yeah.
29:43And really, unless you're ready to make a pass,
29:46I don't know that you want to be much closer than this.
29:48Yeah.
29:50Again, you're saving a lot of roost.
29:51Yeah.
29:52A lot of goggle sort of wear and tear.
29:56Ten laps complete.
29:57Hurlings and Kunin still separated
29:59by about 1.4 seconds at the moment.
30:01With 12 minutes plus two laps to go.
30:05And while we have the championship,
30:08Kunin, Hurlings and Roman Fevre,
30:10Fevre moving up to third in the championship
30:12at the expense of Tim Geiser.
30:13If you're just joining us now
30:14and you're wondering where Tim Geiser is, Tom Biao,
30:18they were unable to start.
30:19We had a first start
30:21that we saw several riders crash
30:24coming out of the first turn
30:25as they hit the foxhole shot line.
30:27Vial was the guy that started that.
30:30Geiser had nowhere to go.
30:31Ballarder and caught it as well.
30:33So too did riders like Roman Papp
30:35and a few others, Jan Pantzer, I believe.
30:37And then all of a sudden
30:38we had a red flag situation.
30:43Everybody picked themselves up.
30:45But because the bike of
30:47Tim Geiser was damaged
30:49and Tom Biao's bike was damaged,
30:52they were not able to restart the race
30:54on their second bike,
30:55on their spare bike.
30:56so they are not in the race.
31:00Roman Fevre leapfrogs.
31:02Tim Geiser as a result of that 231.
31:05Geiser on 223.
31:10And the battle for the lead
31:12intensifying between the 84
31:14of Jeffrey Hurlings
31:15and Lucas Coonan.
31:16He has got some speed.
31:18That pace around the outside
31:19and again he's slingshot, slingshot.
31:22Both these corners here.
31:25Jump short here
31:26to try and lock into that inside.
31:28Hurlings knows there.
31:29A little bit off balance there.
31:30Left foot off the peg.
31:31Off the outside peg.
31:33Yeah, and you just wonder
31:34if Lucas is sensing
31:35an opportunity here
31:36or if his pace is just dragging him up to him.
31:43Definitely looks like he has
31:44a bit more speed in the tank, doesn't he?
31:46Yeah, I have to imagine
31:47Jeffrey's keen for the fight.
31:48I don't think that he's
31:51you know, his fitness
31:52has always been his calling card.
31:54Just wonder what the plan is.
31:57You know, there has to be a plan.
32:01What I don't think you want to do
32:02is get into a last lap
32:04goal with Jeffrey.
32:05That's not what would be ideal.
32:09Championship would be down
32:10to two points
32:11if you put the flag out now.
32:13Coonan on 286.
32:14Hurlings on 284.
32:20Hurlings knew he needed to get a good start.
32:22He needed to get ahead
32:23of Lucas Coonan early on.
32:25He was able to do that
32:29in the restart
32:32because it was Coonan who led, wasn't it,
32:34from Hurlings in the original start.
32:37Of course,
32:38we don't know how that would have turned out
32:40but what we do know is
32:42with the roles reversed here,
32:44Coonan is trying everything he can
32:45to find his way past.
32:47Jeffrey Hurlings got less than 10 minutes
32:49plus two laps in which to do it.
32:51The circuit continues to dry out.
32:53It becomes a lot more looser
32:54and unpredictable.
32:56He likes it outside.
32:59I just wonder if he feels,
33:01if Lucas feels like the time is now.
33:04Jeffrey, when he sees that
33:05three laps to go,
33:05four laps to go sign,
33:06he just goes into sprint mode
33:08until the checkered flag.
33:10So you almost have to make the move
33:11sooner than then.
33:14Just looking at the results here
33:17from the previous.
33:22So Kaido Wolf was the Foxhole shot winner then,
33:24so it must have been tight this time around.
33:26We thought it was him.
33:29So Kaido Wolf gets himself on the board
33:31for the second time this year.
33:38Right.
33:38Preplay of the second start.
33:41Also saw a little bit of carnage
33:42as we exited that first turn.
33:44There's a couple of riders
33:44that went down at the back as well.
33:46Not sure who they were.
33:49So here we go.
33:52We know Jonas
33:53was one of the guys
33:54that was in there
33:54and Jan Panza.
33:59Right, coming out of the turn now.
34:01There you go.
34:03Panza and Jonas.
34:05Nowhere to go.
34:06Keep an eye on the
34:07Kawasaki to the right here
34:08and the rider in blue,
34:10Jan Panza.
34:12Panza coming across
34:14now.
34:15Catching a horrible hole.
34:16Same thing.
34:17Same thing as VL.
34:18High speed, straight into the...
34:20There must be a big soft spot there
34:22that they can't see.
34:26Lucky to get away with that one.
34:28Panza did last four laps,
34:30so he felt like,
34:31it looked like he felt the brunt of that
34:35gap 1.7.
34:38The last split
34:41between these two
34:42is this where
34:43Jeffrey Herlings
34:43just starts to wind it up
34:45a little bit
34:45to try and break the resolve
34:47of the young,
34:49tenacious Belgian.
34:51solid answer so far
34:52nonetheless.
34:55I think Herlings
34:56tried to
34:57make the back mark up
34:58the wear
34:58with a big panic riff
35:00as he came over the line there.
35:03Was that Pat?
35:04Yep.
35:05He'll stay
35:06all the way over to the right
35:07and allow Koonan
35:08to go through.
35:11138.9,
35:12138.9.
35:13The difference being
35:14138.9.7,
35:16138.9.6
35:17between these two.
35:19So that gap
35:19pretty much staying
35:20as it was
35:21on the previous lap.
35:28Somebody's destroyed
35:29bales there
35:29in that corner.
35:34Koonan seems to carry
35:35a little bit more speed
35:36coming in to land there.
35:37Takes a wider run
35:38around here though.
35:40Hoping to get
35:40better run,
35:41better drive.
35:42Doubles his weight
35:43over that last press
35:43now that's
35:44just looks like
35:45it's sort of
35:46dipped enough
35:47on the previous one
35:48to be able to launch
35:49that.
35:49Couldn't do that
35:49yesterday.
35:52Yeah, just
35:54you know,
35:55I think these battles
35:56like this,
35:56you know,
35:56sometimes routers
35:57will pull up there,
35:58kind of ask questions,
35:59put out a little probe,
36:00like, can you go
36:01if I decide
36:02to pull the pin here,
36:02can you go?
36:04And so far
36:04it seems like
36:05Jeffrey's up
36:05for the ask.
36:09Lucas is there again.
36:10He's closed it back down.
36:11He was starting
36:12to lose a gap.
36:12Close it back down.
36:14I don't know
36:15that that outside's
36:16working so much anymore.
36:17Seems like Jeffrey's
36:17making that inside
36:18work a little better.
36:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:19Certainly through here
36:20as well.
36:23So again,
36:24we'll hit the line
36:25at the end of lap 14.
36:26Race one was a 20-lapper.
36:30is that gap still hovering
36:31around about 1.7?
36:33About to find out.
36:351.4.
36:36But now he's got traffic
36:37in front of him
36:37right where he doesn't
36:38need it.
36:39Patrerell.
36:40So Patrerell then
36:41just moving out of the way.
36:43Patrerell, what,
36:44in 20th place?
36:47Wild carding here
36:48this weekend.
36:49JK race in Yamaha.
36:50whether that's just
36:51a temporary fill-in
36:52for Isaac Gifting
36:54who's still out.
36:58Still feel that
36:59Lucas Coonan
37:01feels confident
37:02that he can do something
37:03in the next five minutes
37:05plus two.
37:06It's just whether
37:07he'll get an opportunity
37:09or not because
37:09Jeffrey Hurling
37:10seems to be going
37:11fast in just about
37:13all the right places
37:14whether it's
37:14corner pickup
37:15and then
37:16Coonan maybe catches
37:17him at the end
37:18of the straight
37:18but just can't
37:20outbrake
37:20and then corner pickup
37:21and then
37:21that kind of thing.
37:23It'd be really difficult
37:24to find a place
37:24to make it work.
37:26Traffic might be
37:26the decider.
37:27Yeah.
37:28I think he can get there.
37:29He's right there.
37:30I just don't know
37:31what he's going to do
37:32when he gets there.
37:33That was nice.
37:34He came out of there
37:34on the back wheel
37:35just picking up
37:36over a couple of holes.
37:37Did it propel him
37:38forward any?
37:39Who knows?
37:41But he's closer
37:42than he was a lap ago
37:43on this part of the race.
37:44track.
37:46Will he commit
37:46to the outside again?
37:47He'll look up
37:47and see a back mark
37:48or something.
37:48Commits to the inside
37:49and he might even find
37:50that this inside
37:51works better for him.
37:52It's definitely quicker.
37:53You can see the time
37:54lost last lap.
37:56I think it was working
37:57early but that berm
37:58kind of blew out
37:58added another 10 feet
38:00or so.
38:01Van Donenck
38:01tries to stay out
38:02of the way.
38:03He's been in the wars.
38:08Working our way
38:08towards the end
38:09of the 15th lap
38:09here in La Capel
38:11Marivelle.
38:11Still got four minutes
38:12on the clock
38:13plus two laps.
38:15still hovering
38:16at 1.3 seconds.
38:17The gap between
38:18first and second.
38:20These two right here
38:21the 84 of Hurlings
38:22the 5 of Kunen.
38:31Sense as well
38:32despite all of his
38:33experience and
38:34race craft and fitness
38:36and all the rest of it.
38:37Hurlings is feeling
38:38in this one.
38:39With the heat
38:39with the pressure
38:40it's relentless
38:41can't switch off.
38:42Wow they put 16 seconds
38:44into Febvre right
38:45so they
38:45shows you
38:46we've watched how well
38:47Romain was riding
38:48and he's lost time
38:49since he's gotten
38:50to third.
38:52Put the flag out now.
38:54Hurlings wins the Grand Prix
38:55from Kunen and Febvre.
38:56Max and Renault
38:57one point further back.
38:58Max and Renault
38:59needs to find his way
39:00past Romain Febvre
39:01if he's to find his way
39:01onto the podium
39:02third overall.
39:05But the gap between
39:06those two currently
39:06around about 4.4 seconds.
39:09Last time around
39:09Febvre was a 1.39.6
39:11Renault was a 1.40.4
39:15so unless there's
39:16a slip up
39:17for the French rider
39:19on the Kawasaki
39:20the French rider
39:21on the Yamaha
39:22it's not going to be able
39:23to capitalize on that.
39:28Shows you how mindful
39:30Lucas says that he
39:31changed lines there.
39:32Yeah.
39:32You know
39:32it goes back to what
39:34Jacobin was saying
39:35in our studio show
39:36where you have to adapt
39:36as the race goes on.
39:38What works at the beginning
39:39might not work at the end.
39:41What you think
39:42is going to pay dividends
39:45after one or two laps
39:46you kind of go
39:46the guy is still
39:48quicker than me here
39:49to that point.
39:50So at some point
39:51you have to change.
39:53We all evolve
39:54as humans
39:55we've got to evolve
39:56lap after lap
39:56corner after corner
39:58in some cases
39:58on a racetrack
39:59here at motocross.
40:00Yeah I was speaking
40:01with Malcolm Stewart
40:02last week actually
40:03about this
40:04and he was saying
40:05in Supercross
40:05it's so instinctual
40:07you're just reacting
40:08things are happening
40:09so fast
40:09you really can't
40:10think about what
40:11you're doing so much
40:12but in motocross
40:13you have time
40:14to be more analytical
40:15break down the racetrack
40:16mid-race
40:17and actually change
40:18your approach to it
40:19so perfect example
40:20of that.
40:21So just under
40:22two minutes to go then.
40:27Koonan just getting
40:28a bit of a kick there
40:29only just made it
40:30over the little step up
40:31and there's a panic
40:32rep for him as well.
40:34Can't tell if this
40:34outside's working
40:35seems
40:36yeah that definitely
40:37didn't work that time.
40:38yeah not that time
40:39but he looks
40:40comfortable doing
40:40that doesn't he
40:41yeah
40:41I wonder if he'll
40:42switch
40:44next time around
40:44because he will
40:45see that it's
40:46cost him a little
40:46bit of time
40:53there's
40:54Velandran
40:55so Velandran
40:56on the 10
40:57finds himself
40:58in 16th position
40:59see where he's
41:00ahead of him
41:00in 15th
41:01oh hello
41:04Ruben Fernandez
41:04comes up short
41:08Mike
41:10giving out a little
41:11bit of haze
41:11towards the end
41:12of the race
41:14hopefully he can
41:14bring it home
41:14where is he
41:15in 5th place
41:18looking at 7th
41:18overall
41:21we'll have had the
41:22set in the last
41:23four rounds
41:24because he's
41:256th, 5th and 8th
41:26looking at 7th
41:27now the last
41:27four rounds
41:28three laps to go
41:29yep
41:31and still the gap
41:321.2
41:33in fact the last
41:34three four laps
41:35is whittled it down
41:36by a 10th
41:36hasn't he
41:371.7
41:376
41:385
41:384
41:383
41:382
41:40I just don't know
41:41where he's going
41:41to be able to
41:42make a move
41:43even if he can
41:44get there
41:44and that's
41:46assuming a lot
41:47I just don't
41:48I don't see
41:49an opportunity
41:49zone on the
41:50racetrack
41:54218 race wins
41:55Jeffrey Hurlings
41:55has in his career
41:56so far
41:57edging closer
41:58to 220
42:05this rider
42:06though
42:06could deny
42:07him that
42:08Hurlings
42:08comes up
42:09short
42:09from
42:10end high
42:11favours that
42:12inside
42:13looks pretty
42:14even
42:14Steven
42:14through there
42:15doesn't
42:15until there
42:15that sort
42:17of exit
42:17point
42:17he gains
42:18a couple
42:18of bite
42:18next
42:18Jeffrey Hurlings
42:19he closes
42:20it back
42:20at the end
42:21by able
42:21to
42:21doubling
42:21down
42:22that
42:22hill
42:22but
42:24you know
42:25what
42:25I think
42:25it's go
42:25time
42:25here
42:26for
42:26Kunin
42:26it's
42:26definitely
42:27go
42:27time
42:28he's found
42:28something
42:29that outside's
42:30better
42:30for sure
42:30and he's
42:31going to get
42:32good run up
42:33here as well
42:33carries good
42:34corner speed
42:35he's going to
42:35use the dirt
42:36to the outside
42:39but overall
42:40that whole stretch
42:41still sees
42:42Jeffrey Hurlings
42:43a couple of
42:43bite links
42:44clear
42:45but he's
42:46definitely
42:46got pace
42:47and he's
42:48definitely
42:48got fitness
42:48Lucas
42:49Kunin
42:49yeah
42:49Lucas
42:50has pulled
42:50the pin
42:50here
42:50it's just
42:51going to
42:51be
42:51is there
42:52anywhere
42:52to go
42:53I still
42:55am unsure
42:56that there's
42:56a place
42:57to pass
43:00when you have
43:00a good race
43:01like this
43:01between these
43:02two
43:02Jeffrey will
43:02say
43:03great race
43:03great battle
43:04push me
43:04hard
43:05Lucas
43:07will say
43:07it was a
43:08great race
43:08but I was
43:09probably faster
43:10than I should
43:10have been
43:11able to pass
43:11him
43:11I feel
43:11like this
43:12win
43:12got away
43:13if he
43:13doesn't
43:13win
43:13it
43:13yeah
43:14and he'll
43:14also
43:15point to
43:15the red
43:16flag
43:17the red
43:17flag
43:18changed
43:18the track
43:19position
43:23but really
43:23when you're
43:24behind him
43:24the entire
43:25race
43:26it's not
43:27really an
43:27excuse
43:27you had
43:28your opportunity
43:29for the
43:30better part
43:30of 34
43:30minutes
43:36he's got
43:37to get
43:37closer here
43:38I think
43:38his best
43:39bet is
43:39trying to
43:39pressure
43:39Jeffrey
43:40into a
43:40mistake
43:41versus
43:41actually
43:42making
43:42a
43:42clean
43:42pass
43:45swing
43:45outside
43:46here
43:46again
43:48yeah
43:48still
43:48favors
43:49that
43:49outside
43:49he likes
43:50the run
43:51down to
43:51turn six
43:52it's really
43:53fast at the
43:53end of the
43:54section
43:54he carries a lot
43:56of momentum
43:56into that
43:57corner
43:57he actually
43:59messed it up
44:00a little bit
44:00there
44:01yeah
44:02Ben Watson
44:02there
44:0314th
44:03getting lapped
44:04on the dirt
44:05store triumph
44:05this outside
44:06line
44:06Jeffrey got
44:07inside
44:07there
44:08yeah
44:08Jeffrey got
44:09to the
44:09very
44:09inside
44:10which was
44:10better
44:10that time
44:14still do
44:14not know
44:15which way
44:15this will
44:16go
44:16all the
44:16outcome
44:17of this
44:17overall
44:17grand prix
44:19we're just
44:20over a lap
44:20away from
44:21finding out
44:21whether it's
44:22going to be
44:22that man
44:23right there
44:2384
44:23Jeffrey
44:24Hurlings
44:26or this
