00:00First time today, revs are up.
00:03Gates down.
00:07Handmaker is going to do it again.
00:09Leads him into turn one and out.
00:13He has the whole shot.
00:14Great start by Seth.
00:16He was on the far end side.
00:17He was probably hoping that he'd get a good jump
00:19and then be on the end side like he was, control that.
00:22So great start by Seth.
00:23And after last weekend being your fastest qualifier,
00:26this is exactly how the number 10 wanted to start today.
00:30A little first turn crash back there.
00:32Derek Kelly, David Towers in that.
00:34Look at Cole Davies in second of the 37 going to work on Handmaker.
00:38Our reigning 250 Supercross champion.
00:41These guys battled all Supercross season.
00:43Cole got the better of them.
00:44So last weekend, Seth got it.
00:46Now Cole has his start.
00:47I think his biggest thing was the start.
00:49His ministers were kind of based off.
00:51Oh, no!
00:52Davies got it wrong in the downhill and crashes.
00:54Oh, this is the worst spot.
00:55He got up really quick, so lost a lot of positions,
00:58but could have been a lot worse for Cole.
01:00Battling with Kitchen now.
01:02Meanwhile, Julian Bomair had just made the move on Romano for third.
01:06Now takes over second with Davies going down.
01:08Another good start for Romano like the first moto last week.
01:12And you see the Honda of Joe Shimoda beginning to creep up on the leaders.
01:17Yeah, I think with the Honda squad, you know they needed to work on the start.
01:21So a little bit better than last weekend.
01:22But really interested to see what happens.
01:24These first two riders with Julian and Seth last weekend.
01:28There's probably some nerves from both of them.
01:30Now they're back in a familiar spot where they just were.
01:33How would they pull away?
01:34How would they ride?
01:35Now we look like Joe Shimoda is trying to make a pass already.
01:37As Landon Gordon on the inside, Shimoda going to try to clear him.
01:41Gordon, a rookie, holds Shimoda back.
01:44Yeah, last year we saw Joe kind of be in this same position.
01:48And he got better and better as his teammate chances were right behind him.
01:51Making some passes really early.
01:53One of his stocks in the beginning part of his career was the opening laps.
01:57Joe fixed that last year.
01:59Let's see if he can continue that this year.
02:00Oh, exactly what that Honda HRC progressive team wanted
02:04to get the 30 and the 29 further to the start.
02:06They were buried last week.
02:08Shimoda makes the move on Gordon.
02:09Ah, nice pass.
02:10You can see that one coming.
02:11And that's more experience for Joe.
02:13He's been here.
02:13He's rode a lot of laps at this racetrack.
02:15And he knows, depending on how the guy in front of him goes off that finish line jump,
02:19he's going to go outside.
02:20So you start squaring him up.
02:22Great move on him, number 30.
02:23So it's Handmaker, Bomer, Romano, now Shimoda, Gordon, Hymas,
02:29Kitchin, Benick, Minear, Mumford.
02:31So Kitchin has made a couple of moves.
02:33Remember, he was wheel-to-wheel with Davies.
02:37But Davies, I don't know if he had another problem.
02:39We'll have to figure out where he is on the board.
02:42Currently 32nd.
02:4432nd, says timing and scoring for Davies.
02:46As for Shimoda on the 30, let's go to Jason Thomas.
02:50Well, you know, last week I was just not thrilled with what I saw from Joe Shimoda,
02:54for lack of a better phrase.
02:55I just expected more.
02:57I have this guy as the favorite to win this championship,
03:00and I expect him to be on the podium when he doesn't win,
03:02and we just did not get that.
03:04But I'll tell you, the first lap positioning has long been a thing for Joe Shimoda.
03:09It seemed like he sorted that out last year, and we saw the results of that.
03:12He was really better than everybody in the championship by a long ways,
03:15not named Hayden Deegan.
03:17So today, him getting the start in this first moto, that is a jump start to this series,
03:22and I really believe that if he can continue to put himself in the top 10 on the first lap,
03:26I'm not going to say he's going to run down Seth Handmaker here,
03:29but I'm also going to tell you he's not.
03:30I do think this guy is going to be in the championship fight for the long term.
03:35Well, there's no doubt he's strong and late in these motos.
03:40Katie, what do you got?
03:40Well, we learned earlier that Joe Shimoda had told us that he went back to his 2025 setup.
03:45I went to his mechanic, Ben Griffith, and I said,
03:48okay, how much better is that bike for him?
03:50He said, you know what?
03:51It might be the placebo effect, but hey, if it works, it works,
03:56and that's really what we want out of Joe Shimoda.
03:57They did go back to that 2025 setup, and remember,
04:00he won the SMX championships on that.
04:01He got second in outdoors last year at 250.
04:04So if he's comfortable and confident on that bike, why not?
04:08Let's go back to it.
04:09Yeah, I agree with that, Katie.
04:11And a lot of times, you make those changes more for a rider just to say,
04:14all right, something's different.
04:16And I do believe what we saw last weekend for Joe was just some of the nerves at Supercross.
04:20He came back from a gnarly injury, breaking his neck, and he came out phenomenal.
04:24But then there was a couple of races where he looked a little timid, and then he got hurt.
04:28So I think a little bit was bad start last weekend
04:30and the fact that he just came off an injury this weekend.
04:33Joe looks like Joe to me, and I agree with JT.
04:36I think he will start making his way up through the field to try to close out at number 10.
04:40Well, he is doing it as he challenges Romano for third.
04:45Davies is actually in eight.
04:46So that was a brief glitch, I guess, with Transponder, because he is in about right where he was
04:52after he picked it up from the crash.
04:54And we were talking about Shimoda.
04:55Let's hear it from him and his thoughts on round one.
05:00Wow, we learned a lot of things, right?
05:02Like, a lot of new riders on the track, too.
05:04So just kind of who's doing what and, you know, who's fit and not fit.
05:10We learned a lot of that and just needed a good start, to be honest, for the first round.
05:17Well, it starts better.
05:19Now, look, he's working on Romano.
05:21Everything's stretched out at the moment as Bomair is a little further up the road
05:25and Hamaker is a fourth-second lead.
05:28Look, James, this morning you and JT were talking about the track maybe being a little flatter
05:32or shallower, not as deep, however you want to put it.
05:35Is it making it harder to pass right now for Joe?
05:37Absolutely.
05:38I think Joe is quicker.
05:39But as you can see, he can get up the long side.
05:42But these turns, they kind of funnel back, and there's two lines.
05:45But right now, both lines are really smooth, especially that inside.
05:48So, Joe, if this was Sakamoto, I do believe he probably would have had that pass made
05:52because of the track.
05:53But Nick's ride great.
05:54He rode great last weekend as well.
05:56So not like he's holding him up.
05:58But Joe definitely has his work around him, and the track's making it a little bit more difficult.
06:02Well, Romano, what he's doing is giving himself a jump.
06:07He's a fill-in rider.
06:08Drew Adams out with injury.
06:09Cameron Bakadu out for injury.
06:10They picked him up halfway through Supercross.
06:13I don't think he knows how long he's expected to stay here.
06:15But you keep running into these podium spots, it's going to be forever.
06:20Yeah, it is.
06:21And what's going to happen is that normally last weekend, maybe Joe had had an easier time
06:26getting around Nick.
06:27But now Nick has been up there the last couple times, so he's more comfortable.
06:31So he's going to be a lot harder if Joe tries to make that run, Katie.
06:34Yeah, as he's battling there with Joe, some of that.
06:35I was talking to Mitch Katie about Nick, and he said, you know, he did really well in Supercross.
06:39He got that, he did that fill-in, right?
06:42And I gave him the carrot.
06:43I dangled the carrot.
06:44I said, okay, you do well.
06:45He got three to four outdoors.
06:46He said, I'm doing well.
06:47I'm dangling that carrot again.
06:49And I said, Mitch, that would really stress me out.
06:51He said, I kind of wanted to, right?
06:53I kind of want that to get the fire underneath him.
06:55And that's exactly what motivates him, right?
06:57Is to make sure that he stays in place and has that ride.
06:59Hey, well, at least he's got something dangling in front of him.
07:02He could just not have a job.
07:03So I really take that.
07:04But the way this kid's ride, whether it's with Mitch or someone else, he will have it.
07:08He has the talent, and now he's showing the results as well.
07:12He can continue it.
07:14Absolutely, holding Shimoda back.
07:15The bottom box is Kitchen, who has caught Hivas.
07:19And this is really an indicator of how deep this 250 field is.
07:22Kitchen and Hivas have won motos and overalls in this series before.
07:26They're riding well, but they're fifth and sixth at the moment.
07:29Yeah, last weekend we saw how great Levi Kitchen was as far as speed-wise.
07:33I do feel like with this racetrack, just as we're watching Joe trying to get around Nick,
07:37it's probably hurting him, these bad starts or top-10 start on a rougher racetrack.
07:42I think he'll be able to have that gap separation, but now everybody's kind of running the same pace.
07:47Now these guys are kind of stuck, but at the same time, a long time to go in this race.
07:52It's tightening up, James.
07:53You see that bottom box.
07:54That's actually Carson Mumford in seventh on the ADO PowerSports KTM.
07:59And Davies beginning to move toward Kitchen, who's moving toward Hivas, who's moving toward Gordon.
08:05And then this Shimoda and Romano battle just ahead.
08:09Yeah, I think a lot of that kind of has to do with they're running the same pace,
08:13so when the guys in front of you, they get close.
08:15Maybe they start, you know, slowing each other down by blocking some of the lines,
08:18allows the guy to come up behind them.
08:20So more probably their line selection and battle each other rather than the guys behind them a lot faster.
08:25And Joe still working on Romano.
08:28There you see Julian Beaumere looking for back-to-back moto podium finishes.
08:32What a phenomenal return to racing for the Red Bull KTM rider out of Arizona.
08:37Here's the New Yorker Romano.
08:40And Shimoda trying everything.
08:42Yeah, I think what Joe needs to do, if I was him, I'd try to stay close to him when
08:46I get close to the finish line.
08:47If I can't pass him before, because as he made the pass earlier, if you know this racetrack,
08:52the way the lines are, it kind of opens up some of the doors.
08:54So if he can stay close, I'm going to have to square his Nick up and make that pass.
09:04Nick's riding awesome right now.
09:07Yeah, he's not holding him up because they've actually put a little distance in Gordon and that pack.
09:17Yeah, and what you'll see is as long as they have this little bit of gap,
09:20that gap will stay behind them, those guys won't be able to close.
09:23But if Joe gets closer and it makes Nick change his line, that's when the guys behind him will close
09:28him up.
09:30The bottom box is Hymus, who has now caught Gordon.
09:32So shout out to the kid running fifth right now, the California native land is Gordon.
09:38And there's Kitchen as well.
09:41Joe's not close enough, but let's see what Chance does.
09:45Gordon might get past in the same spot.
09:47Chance probably funnel in behind him, stay here.
09:51Oh, he messed up.
09:53So the line that Gordon would take, so you have him kind of opens it up.
09:56If you can stay on the inside, well, land on outside and square that up, you can have a straight
10:00shot.
10:01Just beat that guy to the next corner.
10:02But Landon kind of did a great job.
10:04Made me learn from being passed by Joe earlier in the race.
10:08Every lap is the same with this fight for third.
10:11Shimoda trying.
10:12A couple of line changes for Romano, helping him out.
10:16Now Shimoda's going to be down the inside, which will be the outside of the bottom of the hill.
10:20Here we go.
10:21Yeah, Joe's been working this line, and what he's trying to do is just get a run so he can
10:27just make Nick nervous.
10:28And then hopefully Nick stuffs it inside the inside berm, and Joe is continuing that momentum.
10:32But at the same time, it's getting Wallace out there.
10:41Romano last week was up and around this spot for most of the first moto.
10:45thought he was going to get the career best, but for him as a fourth, he did it at his
10:48home race at Utadilla.
10:50But that's going back four years ago.
10:52Just missed it last week.
10:53In position for a career high again, even if Shimoda gets him.
10:58But you know he'd love to be on the podium, and he's fighting for it.
11:01Yeah, he is.
11:01Joe's been going inside right here.
11:03See if he can square that motorcycle up and run on the inside.
11:07Oh, that was close.
11:08But there's still another opportunity, depending on how he lands off this jump.
11:13Saw some railing around the outside.
11:19Oh, you love just hearing it when they're going for it.
11:21Here we go again.
11:25Oh, double scrub.
11:33And all that for Dot.
11:35Yeah.
11:36Yeah.
11:38He's doing a great job at blocking him in.
11:40Let's see if Joe is a little bit closer to his lap than he was the last one.
11:51Something back out of the start.
11:55That's a tough corner because it's not like your normal one.
11:58They're turning the whole way, but at the same time, they're able to get on the gas.
12:02So as they're on the gas, the bike wants to stand up and go straight.
12:05So as they're turning, that's why you see them, you know, pulling into clutch sometimes and a little bit of
12:11hesitation because the bike wants to go straight on as they're on the gas.
12:22But what's impressed is look at the gas.
12:24They've actually pulled the gas, the gas, the gas, the gas, the gas, the gas, the gas.
12:41They're out.
12:43They've actually pulled away.
12:45Então, chance de fazer o seu caminho, e ele está começando a clover na sua equipe também.
12:50Simota tem que ficaria cansado de isso.
12:52Bem-vindo, Nick Romano.
12:54Um line aqui.
12:56All right, aqui nós vamos.
14:07Joe showed the car, Nick bounced it back.
14:11Oh, Romano está voltando para o Shimoda,
14:13e eles tem que ir, porque Jimas, como você mencionou,
14:16está começando a clover.
14:17Olha isso!
14:19Romano está voltando para o Shimoda.
14:22Yeah, agora Joe should ter a gap.
14:24You know, Nick probably knew Joe was faster,
14:26so when you get passed as a rotter, if you were to slow a rotter,
14:29you want to pass that guy back instantly because the guy is faster,
14:32he's going to pull away from you, so Joe has that gap.
14:35Now he can ride his license and see if he can close in on second place.
14:38So we'll go full box to the next battle.
14:40Jimas is next, then it's Gordon and Kitchin.
14:44Davies has dropped back to 11th right now.
14:46It's still Mumford, Minear, and Timmerman.
14:49Top 10, Katie.
14:50Yeah, I'm Lyndon Gordon.
14:51This guy obviously being a rookie here,
14:54and battling with a vet like Levi,
14:57you'd say this is a lot of knocking the rust off for the rookie,
15:00and that's exactly what they said last week it was for him.
15:02He's happy with the bike, but he tightened up his nerves,
15:05got the best of him, and he said he got a little bit tired.
15:07So with the battle with Levi here,
15:09it's everything that Landon Gordon has in him
15:11as it gets passed by Levi to maintain his speed,
15:14maintain his fitness all the way through these photos as a rookie.
15:18Well, yeah, Katie,
15:19I just was kind of watching Levi Kitchin make the pass
15:22as you were talking about Landon Gordon, and stop me if you've heard this before,
15:25guys, but so goes the start, so goes the results for Levi Kitchin.
15:29I believe he could run the pace of Seth Hamaker if given the chance on the opening lap to do
15:34so,
15:34but these starts have been so punitive over the course of his career,
15:38and you start to think, big picture, will the story of Levi Kitchin's championship run be,
15:44can he get the start or can he not?
15:46Well, I think it is in modern times. I think back his first year with this team,
15:50he was nailing the starts and nailing the finishes, and they have gone by the wayside.
15:54We talked about it during the Race Day Live qualifying show, they've tried everything,
15:58but haven't seen much improvement. Halfway through this race,
16:01a reminder to stock up Monster Energy at Grocery Outlet. So yes, Hamaker has been the best starter
16:07so far this year, and the best finisher. You could argue that Kitchin has been as quick,
16:12if not quicker, but it doesn't matter.
16:15Yeah, I think with Levi at the moment right now, I mean, his speed looks, he looks good.
16:21I think really the way the track is, it's not allowing him to be able to, you know,
16:25close in our past opportunities like he had last weekend, because he's able to close in
16:29all these guys really quick. But just with the racetrack, it makes a little bit difficult.
16:34I think Levi's doing a good job. He's just got to continue to move up in that top pod.
16:38Yeah, we've definitely seen this track. The battles are lasting a little longer,
16:42harder to make moves. Kitchin's going to try to make one on Hymas. This is for fifth and sixth.
16:51And Romano now inside of Hymas as well. Kitchin, quick pass. Nice pass.
16:58Yeah, Chance got stuck on that inside. Levi just had that flow. And I mean,
17:03this is kind of what you see. If the guy's in that side that tops in,
17:06he's moving up and now he's going after his teammate.
17:12Going to be two and one left for Kitchin.
17:24Throwing everything out at his Kitchin. These two buddies off the track.
17:28But every man for himself, just like we said last week, and Kitchin has made two passes
17:32in one lap. And Hymas looking to follow. Man, Levi's riding this track like he owes him money out
17:38there, the way he's rolling. That was a great lap. And for Romano, look, he put in a huge effort
17:44to hold off Shimoda. And your reward for that is a whole cavalry rolling up.
17:50Doesn't ever stop in his class.
17:54A little gap right now. Man, shout out to Mumford on the AEO KTM. They get some support from KTM,
18:01but they are not the full factory team. And he's riding very well in seventh.
18:07Let's give you the check in on this squad. Monster Energy for a certain Kawasaki.
18:11Doesn't get much better with the first for Hamaker. Kitchin up to fourth. Romano's sixth.
18:15So we know last week that was not just a one week thing. They're strong again today.
18:19Nah, that's good for the team. I mean, good stars. I mean, this guy's always been a good start. But
18:24I said in the opening couple laps, I wanted to see how the top two, Julian and Seth,
18:30last weekend, just a little bit of nerves. I mean, they both were good. Obviously, Seth wrote
18:34really good to get his first overall. But what you're watching here
18:37is a guy that's been there, done that before, and now starting to believe that he belongs up front.
18:43Because this guy's a little different than he was even that first moto in last weekend,
18:47the way his gap is. His class might not be as open as we thought if he could change this
18:52this moto in the next one. Yeah, looking to start the year with 2-1-1 finishes.
18:56Look, the best he'd ever had in his career as we see the second place gap here to Bomair,
19:02sixth. But the best finish for Hamaker had been a fourth.
19:08And now he's been ones and twos to start the year.
19:13Yeah, no, great ride. But his troubles are just kind of beginning. You're going to look behind
19:17him. He's going to hear that number 30, Joe Shimoda. And then right behind him,
19:22you're going to see that Kawasaki 47. He'll pop in there as well. He's coming.
19:28Well, we talked about the stars. As you see, Mumford looking to make moves. This is on Romano.
19:34Mumfy, as they call him to the outside.
19:41Can't quite get it. I was going to say, we talked a lot about the starts and how it's hard
19:44to make up
19:44a lot of time in this track. But you're seeing the, as the phrase would go, the cream starting to
19:48rise to
19:49the top as Shimoda, Kitchen and Hymas have all climbed into the top five. Shout out Mumfy, though.
19:55Yeah, Carson's riding really good. And also what you're saying with the track, the tracks
20:00start from roughing up. Okay, now these outside lines inside, they're starting to be a difference
20:05maker. So before it was really wide open. Now you're starting to get the rough. So Nick's struggling
20:10a little bit. We saw this kind of happen that the last weekend is two things starting to happen
20:15fast. But at the same time, the track is changing, which is making it harder for him to hold these
20:19guys behind him. And also Cade Minear starting to roll up on that battle behind Mumford. Shimoda,
20:26you saw him get closer and now he is right there with Bumer for second. This is what we expected
20:33from
20:33Joe. I mean, we saw him do this last year. Always the same guy every weekend and week out. You
20:39know,
20:39just make his way started up front. He wrote he wrote like this. He got a bad start. He wrote
20:43like
20:43this. But now to me, Joe, I thought he looked pretty good last weekend. But now you're starting
20:48to see him run with that confidence. And this this pass is going to happen. Just wait for a moment.
21:01Well, definitely Shimoda has figured out some of the lines to pass with all the work he did with Romano.
21:10He's got to be happy to start the season this strong, whether it's a second or a third.
21:16Yeah, I agree with that. I mean, back to back photos up and running top three looks really good.
21:22And again, don't forget, this guy just came off an injury. He didn't run much this Supercross season,
21:26so he's only going to get better as well.
21:35Katie.
21:36Yeah, you're talking about Julia Bumer coming back from that injury. I want to give you guys
21:40just a little bit of a reflective look. This was like nine months ago at Charlotte SMX.
21:44He first fractured his lower lumbar, right? He didn't ride and he was in that back brace for three months.
21:50He told me there has never been a darker time in his life. He went off social media for five
21:55months,
21:55which he didn't say was a blessing. And the treatment and following all the protocols
22:01is really what he says made a huge difference. He did exactly what the docs ordered. When he wanted
22:06to get back on the bike, they said no. And he said, okay, I'll wait. And he continued to do
22:11and follow orders. And it's really paid off for Julian Bumer,
22:14him coming on the bike when he feels in the doc feels at the right time.
22:18Okay. It's amazing that he's on the racetrack at all. Honestly, I didn't know when or if we would
22:23see Julian Bumer return to your point. But Joe Shimoda, you saw him finally get assertive. And I
22:28think he realized he's got to go. And I'm very curious to see how Levi Kitchen approaches this,
22:33because remember how aggressive and how assertive he was in passing Romano and Hymas. He wasted no time.
22:40And Joe Shimoda is going to have Levi Kitchen on him right now as he already goes by Bumer.
22:43Yeah, thanks, JT. It's coming apart a little bit for Bumer. And the battle is on. The crowd
22:47responding to it as well. Shimoda versus Kitchen for second. Yeah, when you pass the guy around
22:52outside, that's authority. I mean, he could have got punched out. And yeah, I think Levi at the moment,
22:58I mean, he is rolling. Yeah, Joe better watch out. Is Levi going to do what we saw in
23:04race day live? Just his body language. And there's the pass.
23:10Man, for how hard it had been to pass. Look out, guys. It got close on that jump.
23:14Kitchen is making it look easy. Yeah, we saw him do this the first moto last weekend. I mean,
23:20it looked pretty easy. Once he decided he wanted to go fast and he was clear, he was able to
23:24make
23:25that ground. Problem for him, he's 11, almost 12 seconds behind his teammate. Levi's been the
23:31quickest the last three laps. But between that, his teammates running a great lap time as well.
23:37Pulling away.
23:39And we could show you how big that 11 second gap actually looks. Although Joe's not giving up on it.
23:46Going right back after him. This is Hamaker. That's a lap rider. Still waiting.
23:56Still waiting. The camera's still. It ain't frozen. It's still there. But, you know, at one point,
24:04that gap got down to about six seconds. And I was watching a lap times. And then Seth,
24:09this mechanic probably told him that, hey, these guys are coming. And immediately he dropped two seconds.
24:13So I think he's playing the gap right now. He's got the pace. And I think this might be
24:19the farthest these guys come up this moto. It does look like, for the moment,
24:25Titchin has been able to shed that pressure from Shimoda trying to return fire.
24:34We're back up to a 1-2 for the Pro Circuit Kawasaki squad again, just like last week.
24:40Yeah, they look better. And this is what happens. I mean, one guy, even with Nick,
24:46I mean, the top six right now ran up front for a while. When one guy starts rolling on the
24:52team,
24:52when you got these young guys, man, the whole team starts to elevate. And you're seeing that.
24:57And I got more good news. We're going to show you that 13-point lead that Hamaker had
25:02after round one. How big is that actually historically? Well, I remember it off the top
25:06of my head that on this team, Joey Sabaci back in 2016 won the opener. I believe he had a
25:1115-point lead
25:12to start the year. So Hamaker's close to that. Zach Osborne had a 14-point lead the next year. So
25:21this is the third largest point lead all time after one round. And guess what? It looks like it's going
25:27to end this moto with an even bigger lead. Yeah, with that lead, I mean, you got to think of
25:33his
25:33confidence growing as well. I mean, both these guys are riding good. The Levi's pace, if he was up there
25:38with Seth, he would have a battle. So not like he's not fast, but it is rare not to go
25:431-1 and still
25:44come out with a double-point gap that big as Seth has after three motos. Well, the rest of the
25:50class
25:50was just super inconsistent last week. Caden dug to get on the podium last week overall without a
25:58podium in the motos. It's all up and down. Once again, we send this shout out to Mumphie here,
26:04Riding so well in the top 10 in what is such a tough class to do it in. And behind
26:10him,
26:11Enzo Temmerman. Welcome back to the races, kid. One of Kawasaki's amateur prospects then broke his
26:19femur in the offseason. Been back at the bike for two months. There he is. And we have to say
26:24the
26:24inevitable. You see the tall Kawasaki kid in the 92. Looks like our buddy Adam Stine Cirillo out there.
26:30And Temmerman wearing it well inside the top 10. Welcome back. Yeah, he's got a little AC style
26:35as well. And I was actually excited to see this kid. I saw some of his racing as an amateur.
26:40You give this kid a shot and some health and a little bit of confidence. He's going to be,
26:45he's going to be good. Really good. Now, he's not on the full pro circuit team. He's on a team
26:50green
26:51bike, but he would like to get a shot with that team. And ride well, he might do it. And
26:56then behind
26:57him, you got Kate Minear. Oh, actually, Minear is just ahead of him. Minear slipped past Mumford.
27:05Boland actually behind Temmerman in 10th. Yeah, you know what the crazy part with these young kids,
27:10it's now before you got a rod whether you were good enough. I mean, it was pretty simple.
27:14These kids are great. The problem is there's so many good kids these days that that injury,
27:20it basically sets you. That's why you don't have a rod because of the injury, not because you're a
27:24talent. He rides like this. It ain't if, it's when he gets that ride.
27:29Well, yeah, because Romano became the fill in. I would just have to guess that maybe that would
27:34have been Temmerman if he was available when they needed a rider to fill in. Obviously,
27:38Romano trying to make the most of it running sixth and nobody's touching Seth Hamaker.
27:45Yeah, Levi's closing the gap a little bit. I think if Seth can get through the next lap or so,
27:51then Levi will probably start, you know, focusing in on second place for this moto, but
27:57about eight seconds. I don't know if Seth made a mistake, but Levi was about two seconds faster
28:01that last lap. Katie? I was asking Seth what the secret sauce to Kala was last weekend,
28:07and he said, look, I wrote three. Everything just kind of felt natural, but I am trying to keep my
28:12expectations low. So I said, are you doing like the same routine, like left foot into your sock and
28:17right foot, you know, that kind of thing? And he said, oh yeah, I'm doing everything exactly the
28:20way that I did it. In fact, he was eating breakfast the same way. I said, what you got? He
28:24said,
28:24a bacon, egg and cheese sandwiched two times. O.J., you know, that same routine, but that does pay off,
28:29too. I mean, for you, did you kind of have any of those little things that were your special?
28:33Hey, I'm doing this, and I know I'm going to win if I do. Oh, absolutely. And if I was
28:37eating egg sandwich,
28:38like Seth, I'd be running out of eggs every weekend. You know, I think us,
28:41we just want the, you know, same thing. And so we get a little superstitious on that if it works,
28:46and it's the only reason I won is because of that sandwich. Okay. So far, Seth,
28:50going to be eggs between motos. Now, Seth has always had speed. You mentioned,
28:56especially in qualifying, and always a good starter. It's the consistency that has come
28:59around specifically the last two years. There's Mitch Payton, the team owner,
29:03got to be happy with the one-two right now. You have heard through the interviews with Seth,
29:07how much effort has gone in with his riding coach, Michael Burns, and everyone around him.
29:12He rides with the Lawrence family down in Florida to calm him down. And he said something in
29:17qualifying today. I'd never heard a rider say the goal today, keep the cortisol levels down.
29:22Yeah, he's keeping them down. I mean, I know Levi's trying to raise those up,
29:26but you know, the thing is, it's like, when you watch a performance like this,
29:30compared to even last weekend, it's not like Seth went home and got faster. I mean,
29:34he's always had this speed, but what he's doing and showing me is that he can do it when he
29:38needs
29:38to. And that's where I feel like that consistency comes. It's not about just like, all right,
29:42I'm going to be able to ride the same speed or faster over a period of time. It's about doing
29:46it when you need to. How easy can you do these laps? And all I'm seeing is a guy that
29:51just knows that
29:53I know my pace is good enough to win these races. I'll pick it up when I need to. And
29:57that makes
29:58a consistent rider. And that's what you're seeing. And we're also seeing a ton of lap
30:01traffic. Aiden Kiefer there on the Phoenix Honda. That's a torrid battle. And that's one of the
30:06things that really only the fans get to see at these races. You can go back. That is, I think
30:11you
30:11just saw a battle for 29 30th, 31st and 32nd. And those four riders were going at it just like
30:19they were battling for a podium. That is typical for a motocross there. Yeah, and it's different.
30:23And we do a great job on TV, Peacock, NBC. We try to do our best as these passes, more
30:29passes,
30:29as you were just mentioned. But I feel like it's like a hockey game. Like, yeah, you're the eyes on
30:34the puck when you're watching on TV, but there's action everywhere. So there's a different feel even
30:38when you come to these races. And that's why you look outside as Menear makes the pass up Nick.
30:43That's why these pants come out here every weekend and week out. As for Romano here,
30:49the effort he put in to try to hold Shimoda back. What does that do? That's not energy management,
30:54I would imagine, that 10-minute flurry. No, no. And you kind of know what usually happens that
30:59you're holding your breath. You're kind of getting nervous, especially you're thinking about where
31:03this guy, you know, trying to hold off the guy behind you. You just start holding your breath.
31:07And the problem with this 250 class is you can't relax. There's another guy coming. So
31:12just what you had to do with Joe, you just had to do it with Menear as well and all
31:17the other guys.
31:18So it just makes it look way worse than what it is because of the position he was in.
31:23So Menear, he's going to be the best of these star rookies in the finishes in this moto.
31:28Cade Dugney got all the headlines last week with the podium. But he has worked his way up the
31:33Australian 2-6th. Yeah, you know, and speaking of that, you know, we saw Cole Davies go down
31:38earlier, but I've been watching the laptops and I don't know what happened last weekend at second
31:43moto, but he was up front. I know he had a tip over, but then he made it back. And
31:46then this moto,
31:47the same thing. He got up with inside the top 10 and he's just been making his way further back
31:53and
31:53further back. And I don't believe his balls are kind of strange to see that from us to the best
31:57champ.
31:57Yeah, Davies in 11. Mumford not giving up. He has now caught Roboto.
32:05Mumford charging. Yeah, and that goes to my point with Nick, you know, you really don't have a
32:10chance to relax in his class. So he just got past, you know, by Menear. Now look at him,
32:16half a lap. He's got Mumford on him as well. And behind him, he got Timmerman. So
32:22it just continues to go. And once you kind of lose that toe and that flow,
32:26you're going to have a hard time just recovering. That's more to do with this feel rather than what
32:30you're doing. And that battle, he wasn't in that battle with Shimoda. Probably like you said,
32:35holding his breath, but he looked a lot different right now. We're seeing the result of that here.
32:40Yeah. Yeah. No, I mean, I think the battle makes it, what happened with Joe makes it harder for Nick
32:46to
32:46ever recover because holding your breath and getting tight, then he doesn't have a chance to
32:51relax. Or if he does, then he has another guy. So yeah, no, the battle caused this to happen,
32:56but I think it's just more of, you know, he doesn't have a chance to recover. And I think
33:00Nick's still doing a great job. He's not throwing it away. He's finishing here. It's not the top 10.
33:05I think he'll just get better and better, but it's a race for him right now.
33:10Yes. Just in a battle the whole time and still going. Here's Mumford.
33:15Yeah. And I believe kind of to my point, I think what Nick was trying to do was relax a
33:20little bit
33:21and then get somebody up inside. And that's what I mean about trying to recover. Right.
33:25You can't. And they can't because
33:29as they battle, Boland and Davies are back there 10th and 11th.
33:34Yeah, well, you got the rookie Timmerman right behind these guys. Yeah, so.
33:40Yeah, it's tough.
33:44Boland might have just made his way around Timmerman now. So yeah,
33:47the battles never end. Last lap down.
33:54One to go. Can Mumford make this move?
33:58Up ahead.
34:02Well, the man in the Fox gear, Sirius and Fox Raceway. Well, this time,
34:06it's going to be Handmaker hammering him at Hangtown, at least in the first moto.
34:10Yeah, I'm hitting with a Handmaker in the first one. I hit him with a couple of jabs this one.
34:14So yeah, some beat up kids after this, but a great ride by Seth. And
34:19you know, I just like the up and downs. You know, you think about 30 minutes plus two laps and
34:24a lot
34:24of people are like, man, it's kind of overwhelming when you look at it. But
34:27this race has come down to laps and moments. And when Seth needed to pick up the pace,
34:32he raised it, then he was able to relax. Unlike his teammate, this is the difference between having
34:38a good start and that gap where Seth has been able to counteract to anything that's happening on
34:42the racetrack. So a funny story. We've covered this before. Seth's mom never watches the race is
34:47too nervous. At Salt Lake City Supercross, she tried. She went to watch a heat race. I said,
34:52how'd that go? She's like, yeah, I'm good. Never doing that again. So she's probably unaware how
34:57well it's going for her son, but it's going very, very well. Again, all three motos this year,
35:03all better than his previous career best in pro motocross. Hamaker hammers hangtown in moto one.
35:15This guy's feeling it right now. Yes.
35:22Solid route by the top three. Looks like Joe is going to come in third. Another good route by Julian.
35:30You know, we said at the top of the show. He won big point lead. As they cheers Shemota coming
35:37through. There's mom. Well, what she actually does is just time for 30 minutes to walk down to the podium.
