00:00On the gate right now, but the talk is over!
00:02It's time to go racing!
00:13Hunter Lawrence had it!
00:15But that is going to be Mikkel Harrop on the Triumph to the lead!
00:19Did not race Supercross, comes in ready.
00:21Battling Hunter now. Prado's third.
00:23We got a pileup here.
00:25I don't know if it's any of our contenders.
00:27Always easy to happen at 180,
00:28mas Hunter Lawrence, as you mentioned, I thought he was there first, Mitchell got around him, nickel, yeah, good start
00:35for the triumph runner, I was like Jorge Prada is, and Chase Sexton fourth, he has struggled with starts on
00:42the Kawasaki, this is a pretty good one, and now Hunter able to lock it down, yeah, I was getting
00:46confused, they were going all over, but Hunter Lawrence, when you're looking at him, the speed, the way he was
00:51doing it, it's scary for everybody else, great start by him, great start by Jorge Prada, and another guy we
00:57really haven't mentioned that much,
00:58Chase Sexton, we know he always carries the speed, but does he carry the mindset to come in here and
01:02win, and be able to contend, we'll find out here through this moto, Prada makes the move on Harrop, these
01:08riders used to battle over in Europe and MXGP, Prada not messing around, going to second, and does not want
01:15Hunter Lawrence to get away, yeah, well, you know, look at Dow, Jet Lawrence is running in the 16th, so
01:20bad start for a defending champ, not sure what happened, he's got a long ways to go, and the one
01:25guy's out front, might be the toughest is his brother, so we
01:28it happens, he's got even worse, he is 20th, so the big names that everyone's talking about, struggling, Hunter Lawrence
01:36starting to roll, and here comes Sexton now, yeah, Chase is going to try to follow these two guys, they
01:42have been the fastest guys of the day, Jorge Prada, Hunter Lawrence, so Chase wants to get up there, I'm
01:47not sure what his mindset is, is he here trying to win, or is he here trying to make sure
01:51his bike is good, just get on that, oh, is that Tomac, yeah, that's Eli and March
01:58Oh, no, big collision, oh, no, big collision, and they are not quick to get up, oh, man, tough break,
02:05and last time we saw Eli race was the same kind of incident there, just a rotting incident, I believe
02:11Gary was on the outside, the four-time champion Tomac getting together, you're right, that is eerily similar to a
02:18couple of the crashes late in the Monster Energy Supercross campaign for Tomac, go back to Prada, keeping Lawrence in
02:25sight on lap two,
02:28And that's a bummer to see, certainly not just for Tomac, but March Banks, who's very quick in qualifying as
02:34well, but it's going to be Lawrence Prada, O'Hara, top three, lap one, here we go, yeah, you can
02:40watch Eli right here in the middle, and then you got March Banks on the outside here, watch these lines,
02:47Eli's going to get in there, I don't know if he's going to pop out of that rub, but March
02:50Banks come, racing incident, but tough hit for both of them, Gary went down really hard in the face of
02:56that jump,
02:57Oh, man, that's hard, yeah, you hate to see it for both of those riders, Prado, just inching up ever
03:04so slightly on Hunter early, Sexton is now third ahead of Harrop, and Justin Cooper is fifth, Mr. Craig, Barsha,
03:13Plessinger, Webb, round out the top ten, and there's Jet Lawrence, fired in traffic, he just made the move, we
03:20hear, on Cooper Webb, that'll move him to tenth,
03:22Yeah, this might, as I said, with his teammate in the 250 class, Joe Shimoto, Jet was struggling earlier, so
03:27this might be a good thing, takes that mindset off of, even trying to win this race, get in that
03:32form, really get that race craft going, to be up in that top five, you have to make some great
03:37passes, so, let's see if you can keep moving up, is that Deegan behind him, or, oh, no, it's Cooper
03:43Webb, yeah, it's Deegan's teammate, but I'll tell you what's crazy, Jet had led 91 straight laps at this track,
03:50until the first one here,
03:51with the bad start, with the bad start, and Cornelius Tongle right there, making moves, battling Webb, uphill, behind Lawrence,
03:59We're just passing two, uh, three times, two across champ out here,
04:06I think Deegan's about to get into this fight, as well, he's at the bottom of the screen, battling Webb
04:11now, let's go to JT,
04:13Well, we're gonna try to get a replay of the start, I watched Jet Lawrence, and he started right next
04:19to Jorge Prado,
04:20We're gonna come up on the screen right here, watch Jorge Prado and Jet Lawrence next to each other, they
04:24are side by side, you see Prado finally get the drive, right there, you see Jet get squeezed out by
04:30Cooper on his left, and Prado on the right, that is what got him to start, it was so close,
04:34but that, that last, when they grabbed third gear, the pull there, but Prado got, got him to second, and
04:39Jet fell back to 14th,
04:40Yeah, and, and truthfully, that's probably a little bit of timidness by Jet, cause he hasn't raced all year, and
04:45I know what, when I came back from injury, that's one of the scariest parts, being around a bunch of
04:49people,
04:50So, I think Jet probably shut off a little early, and was just trying to stay up, and when you
04:54do that here, you go from top 10, to in the back of the pack, to looking back, and you
04:59got Haydeegan on ya,
05:00Yeah, well, here it is, they're hooking up in a battle, maybe not the positions that people expected, this is
05:06a fight for 10th and 11th, between Lawrence and Deegan,
05:11Yeah, this is scary position for Jet, because he wants to be able to, you know, work his way in,
05:16and then he's got guys in front of him, so he probably won't be able to run his lines, but
05:19then you got Haydeegan's just, you know, railing it, scrubbing it behind you, you know, he wants to make the
05:24pass, so, it's gonna be, uh, scary, I'm interested to see what happens, I believe, if Hayden comes in,
05:30and Jet probably led him by, and try to follow him, maybe repass him later, meanwhile, bottom box, Jorge Prado,
05:35all over, Hunter Lawrence for the lead, Prado came to play, as expected, now Jet Lawrence makes the move on
05:42Barsha, that'll move him to 9th, and Barsha now between Jet and Deegan, yeah, Jet's just gotta keep moving forward,
05:50keep that, um, gap in that 38, as, uh, Haydeegan makes his way around him, as I said, Jet wouldn't
05:55be able to run his line, so he might get slowed up, which will allow, um, Haydeegan to come in,
06:00and, I think Barsha made a pass back on him, so.
06:05Well, that's what makes it so fun, this field here, you can go back to 10th, and find some riders
06:09who will not just roll over, Barsha will fight you as hard as anyone, up front, the yo-yo game,
06:17Prado able to close in, Hunter pulls it back out,
06:19and vice versa, between the leaders, and that bottom box, and Sexton lurking as well.
06:24Yeah, I think all these guys are just kinda, like, we saw Levi Kitchen, just kinda letting this race play
06:30out, if you get close to him, try to make that pass, and body language, there's not too much of
06:35a rush for all three of these guys,
06:36Jorge was standing up, and then, when you attack, he'll close in on Hunter, Hunter knows he's gonna be there,
06:42so, this race is just a chess game at this point, except you're just scoring 60 miles an hour while
06:46playing chess.
06:47Yeah, exactly, it's faster than most people can go, oh man, you see there on the left side of the
06:52screen, right side of the track, Tomex still being attended to, after that hard crash, on lap one, you hate
06:59to see it,
07:00Christian Craig is next, on the charge, for Jet Lawrence, and here's Deacon following him through.
07:07Yeah, still a great ride by Jet, he's starting to pick up the pace, making his way up, so maybe
07:12what he's gonna do, is he knows that 38's behind him, maybe that's what's pushing him forward,
07:16so he's not thinking about anything else, besides getting away, and while he's doing it, he's closing in on the
07:21guys ahead of him.
07:22Well, they might all meet out the front, the way it's going right now, so that'll move Jet up to
07:27eight, Craig Knight, Craig and Deacon are very close, actually, Craig was working with Deacon as a bit of a
07:33coach, about a year and a half ago,
07:35they're still pretty tight on the track, but every man for himself, out on the round one, Pro Moto Cost
07:41Opener.
07:43Yep, absolutely, when you think about Jet Lawrence, I mean, how long has it been since he's actually raced, I
07:48mean, six plus months,
07:50if you look at last time he goes back, and, you know, so just going back to what happened in
07:54that first corner, it's easy to happen, a mistake right there,
07:56all this, take a look over, and Deacon already passed Craig, so he's right there with Jet.
08:03Yeah, let's see what happens here, and I don't think Craig put up too much of a fight on Deacon,
08:09Deacon around the outside, side by side,
08:12Lawrence and Deacon.
08:14Yeah, Craig tried to let him go by, because he's like, I want to see what happens right here with
08:18Hayden, Deacon, and Deacon makes the pass on Jet Lawrence,
08:23and now going after Plessinger.
08:26Yeah, that mistake by Jet obviously allowed Hayden to go, and Hayden wants to make that pass and make his
08:32way forward,
08:33so I thought Jet would do what he did, played a long game, beat Smart, hopefully Aaron slows Hayden down,
08:39so he doesn't go,
08:40and he has an opportunity to go by, but, you know, he might, he's right back to the rear wheel
08:44of Deacon.
08:46Now, the cool part when you watch these two guys, like, their contrast in style, like, Hayden, Deacon really runs
08:51it in a lot,
08:52and we know how patient Jet Lawrence is, so when you're watching him on the racetrack, you'll see.
08:57There it is, Jet got him back, and the crowd responds.
09:01Simple as that, one mistake, Hayden goes in the outside, Jet sneaks in, and that's the difference between the 250
09:07class and 450.
09:08These guys attack, we know how much they want to win, all of them.
09:12Great pass by Jet Lawrence, let's see what Hayden responds back to.
09:18Woo! I didn't think it would happen quite this quickly.
09:22First ten minutes of the season, it's already on.
09:24Oh, we're not going to wait for anything. It might be for ninth and eighth and ninth, but the battle
09:28is here.
09:30And Plessinger, who's returning from some vicious injuries in Supercross, just ahead of him, Deacon, another attack.
09:37Going to run it around the outside, and Lawrence ran him out of room.
09:40Yeah, just going back to my point with these two riding styles, what you're going to see, Jet relaxes going
09:45in the corner.
09:45Hayden really attacks it, so it's easy for Hayden to make up a lot of time entering the corner.
09:50In some of these parts where you get these split lanes, you'll have a lot of opportunities to pass Jet.
09:54Jet carries that momentum, but Hayden will always close that gap by the way he rides.
10:00Looks like we lost Chase Sexton. He was in third. Now Justin Cooper has moved up.
10:04Yeah, Sexton is now fourth, and that's the battle out front with Prado just stalking Hunter Lawrence from second.
10:13These guys just ran 218, so over two seconds faster pretty much than everybody else on the racetrack.
10:19So they're picking that pace up. You see Jorge standing up.
10:22They don't look like they're too big of a rush compared to his brother, Hayden Egan.
10:27Great start for all these guys. It's looking good, JT.
10:31Yeah, he looks great, and don't forget, guys, there is no love lost between Hunter Lawrence and Jorge Prado.
10:36They've had a war of words. They kind of talk back and forth.
10:39There was the body Spanish comment by Jorge Prado, and even a couple weeks ago at the finale in Salt
10:46Lake City,
10:46Jorge Prado was the one putting pressure on Hunter Lawrence that you could argue forced that mistake.
10:51So it's one of the most under-reported rivalries that we have going right now, but it's about to heat
10:56up.
10:56Well, yeah, because now it's one-on-one for the lead, and those two at the bottom as Lawrence and
11:02Deacon are making moves on Plessinger.
11:04The other Lawrence and Prado are long gone up front.
11:07Yeah, I love the contrast. Our drone shot right here is giving you an ideal of Hunter Lawrence and Jorge
11:13Prado.
11:14Just the line selection, how many different lines are on this racetrack.
11:17Hunter swings on the outside, cuts the corner. Jorge is going more straight in, but banking off.
11:22So different ways to get it done, and they're literally running the same lap time, but they're 218.6 for
11:26both of the last lap.
11:27And we hear Tomac is being helped off the track by the Alpine Stars medic team.
11:33You hate to see that for the four-time champion of the series so early in this campaign.
11:40There's Prado continuing to shadow Hunter Lawrence, Will.
11:44Jason, we were talking in the booth just earlier, Jason. We were talking about this exact scenario, right?
11:49We may well see a Hunter Lawrence, Jorge Prado, one and two here battling.
11:53And these are the two guys out of the entire field who are not coming off injury.
11:57They have plenty of momentum from superpowers.
12:00Yes, Jorge switch manufacturers, but as I just spoke to team manager Ian Harrison about, that's a gray area.
12:06He's gone back to Red Bull KTM. He's gone back to a bike ring that he's extremely used to.
12:12So he doesn't think that counts.
12:13So we're talking about two guys really who are battling nothing else apart from themselves right now.
12:18And I asked him, hey, hang on a second, but you've only just learned these tracks,
12:21and you were doing it in a kind of a non-competitive way last year.
12:25You were doing it at the back of the pack.
12:26And he said, that's probably my only thing that I have to deal with here, James,
12:30is the line selection from last year when he was, you know, 10th and further back
12:35to being up front and running up front is a very different experience for him.
12:39Yeah, it is.
12:40But at the same time, Jorge is used to winning, you know, and this is where he's more comfortable at.
12:45And I think with him, when you're a rider that's won at so many times,
12:49you've got to have a little bit of naive about you.
12:50So I think in Jorge's mind, last year was last year.
12:53I know what the problem was.
12:55I changed that problem.
12:56So I'm going to go back to being what I am as he's closing in on Hunter Lawrence.
13:01So I think it's more about this is more normal for him compared to where he was last year.
13:05And so far, he's making his way up.
13:07Now look at the different lines.
13:09Hunter switched his line up this time.
13:11He was a little bit farther on the outside, but you can see the difference in that corner.
13:14Works out the same.
13:16But...
13:16Meanwhile, top box, Jet Lawrence trying to get around.
13:20Harrop, the Danish rider, doing very well in the triumph.
13:23But a little mistake hits in the corner, and that allows Jet to move by him for sixth.
13:28Prado and Hunter so close up front.
13:31Yeah, great ride.
13:32I like what I see from Jet.
13:33I think this is helping him.
13:35As I said earlier, you know, it's got to reset the focus.
13:38I'm not going to lead any more laps here.
13:40It may possibly be this moto.
13:41So get that guy here.
13:43Hey, Deegan, put the charge in here.
13:44So it made Jet have to race.
13:46And they're both picking up their paces.
13:48And this game up front, this is seriously a chess match.
13:51This is what Jorge does.
13:53I mean, he's very technical.
13:54He's going to work on Hunter Lawrence and try to make some pass.
13:57So he'll drop back.
13:58We're not even halfway in this moto.
14:00Long ways to go.
14:01Both these guys are in a great position.
14:04Jorge Prado 2.0, much better in his second year in America.
14:08It was a disappointment.
14:10Last year, he had switched not only moving from Spain to America,
14:13but then switching teams to the Monster Energy Kawasaki squad.
14:17That did not go well by any measure.
14:19Got out of that deal.
14:20Came back to KTM the brand he rode for when he was a youngster in Europe.
14:24And it has paid massive dividends.
14:26Very good in Supercross,
14:28considering he does not have much experience racing in stadiums.
14:31Now he's comfortable on his types of tracks,
14:33and he's riding well in second.
14:35Here's Jorge on his goals and his expectations for the motocross campaign.
14:43So my expectations for the 2026 Pro Motocross Championship,
14:48basically it's to win.
14:50I really hope I can get it done this year.
14:54Like I said, I feel very good with myself and with the bike,
14:57and I don't see a reason why not to be able to clinch the title
15:01or even fight for the title.
15:04That's what I'm aiming.
15:06So yeah, that's my goal.
15:10Well, he's never been shy about his own abilities.
15:14So even that quote doesn't surprise me at all.
15:17He's been a championship guy his whole life.
15:19I don't think he expects anything different.
15:20Although at the moment, Hunter has gotten a drop on him
15:23and opened it up to about three seconds.
15:26Yeah, again, this is a game of chess right here with these two guys.
15:31This race is just beginning.
15:32And then you got Justin Cooper, Chase Sexton up here.
15:37I believe Chase went down, Jason.
15:38I see.
15:40Yeah, one bad lap.
15:41Must have been in.
15:42And he's close back in.
15:44We're halfway through this one, by the way.
15:45A reminder to stock up on Monster Energy drinks at Stater Brothers.
15:49So still plenty of racing left for this fourth place battle.
15:53You got Justin Cooper, third, sexton, fourth,
15:55and RJ Hampshire is lurking right behind them on the Rockstar Husky.
15:59Yeah, great to see RJ back out here.
16:03And kind of, you know, thinking about star racing and, I guess, Monster Riders,
16:08you got Justin Cooper in third, Chase Sexton in fourth, Cooper Webb, 13th, March Paints.
16:12We saw him earlier with Eli go down.
16:16But I think a lot – I felt like it was going to be a good day for Justin Cooper.
16:20You go back to last year, a strong first moto, really kept Jet within six seconds,
16:25but pulled away from everybody else.
16:27And just seeing the growth of him this Supercross season,
16:30he's starting to believe that pass he made on Eli Tomek, that second triple crown.
16:35Ever since then, Justin Cooper has been a different rider,
16:37and he's riding with an attitude.
16:38So I like what I see, and I think good things are going to happen for the 32.
16:42I love it.
16:43It doesn't matter who you throw in there.
16:45The field gets deeper every year.
16:46Justin Cooper is always going to be right around those podium positions.
16:50You can set your watch to it, and that's where he is right now.
16:54Yeah, that's good stuff.
16:55Going back to the opening, what I said, all these guys got motivation out here.
17:00You know, obviously they want to do good every year,
17:02but there's a lot to prove for each one of these guys.
17:04You go through the top ten.
17:06So good for Chase.
17:08I think this is a good thing for him.
17:10Supercrosses, let's not be shy.
17:11It was a rough year for Chase.
17:13Even though he's got two wins, it wasn't Chase Sexton,
17:16and we were wondering him coming to this motocross,
17:19you know, where would the bike be at?
17:20Yeah, where would he be mentally?
17:21I felt like this first race he needed to have some positives,
17:24whether that was with speed or the bike going in the right direction,
17:27because we know Chase Sexton, when he's on,
17:30he can beat any of these guys any day of the week.
17:33Well, that's why he's the champion of this series just two years ago.
17:36And then you see Hampshire back behind him.
17:38JT, what do you think?
17:39And watch for the number four at Sexton.
17:41I agree with James so much, and he needs a fast start here
17:44because it just felt like if things went awry at the opening round,
17:48we could snowball the wrong direction really quickly with how Supercross went.
17:53But when you come out here and he's battling,
17:55maybe you get on the podium in this moto,
17:56he comes off winning the last race of Supercross at Solid City.
17:59Now you're on a little bit of a roll.
18:01So it just really felt like momentum was going to build.
18:04You just didn't know if it was going to be a positive or negative way.
18:07And the last note I want to add, guys,
18:08working in the background behind Hampshire there,
18:11Jet Lawrence has entered the picture too,
18:12so don't throw out a last few-minute charges.
18:16All these battles starting to close in on each other,
18:21Sexton and Cooper, then Hampshire.
18:22It's like Jet Lawrence has pulled away from Deegan a bit now,
18:26but he might be able to go after Hampshire and Sexton.
18:30Yeah, that's a big thing.
18:31And JT's spot on with him, with Chase.
18:34And I believe that number one starts sniffing,
18:37and he's going to close up on these guys.
18:39And Jet's getting confident every lap.
18:42He's going to get faster and faster as his moto goes on.
18:44He's feeling that foot out, feeling good,
18:47maybe working some kinks with the motorcycle.
18:48Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up close to this podium at the end of the races.
18:55Hampshire on the gas here.
18:58Missed almost all of Supercross.
18:59Had a pretty routine crash,
19:01but the handlebar went right to the top of his foot.
19:03He said there was a chance.
19:05He was healed up enough where he maybe could have come back
19:07for the last Supercross or two.
19:09They decided to keep the focus on this.
19:10Point being, he's healthy.
19:12He's had plenty of time to the motorcycle,
19:14and it's showing right now.
19:15I mean, you go back to last year,
19:17he got a hat, had surgery within 10 days,
19:20and he came out here.
19:21So, like Justin Cooper, as you said,
19:23being around the podium,
19:24when I see RJ, I expect RJ being RJ.
19:27I got us always fight, never gives up.
19:29And when he stays up, he's up there towards the front.
19:35Jett Lawrence started to take time out of everyone.
19:38He just ran a 219.
19:39The only other riders that went that fast,
19:42Deegan and Hunter Lawrence up front.
19:45It's like Jett's starting to put it together here.
19:47Yeah, he's starting to put it together.
19:48Now he has that rabbit to chase with those guys,
19:51and hey, Deegan has the rabbit chasing the rabbit himself.
19:54But I like that.
19:56Jett Lawrence, you know, that line right there.
19:58This is starting to remind me of who I am.
20:00God is getting these creative lines,
20:02and, you know, the last time, don't lie,
20:04he's been getting faster.
20:05So let's see if he can continue that
20:07through the rest of his moto,
20:08because if not, the number 38
20:10would love to get back up there and get to him,
20:12and he's closing in as well.
20:21So I was talking to Dr. G,
20:24Harold Gubinick there,
20:25who is the physiotherapist,
20:27who are a lot of the guys in the planet,
20:28but obviously Jett and Hunter Lawrence.
20:30I got to have a good chat with him
20:32about what this injury,
20:33what the sort of implications of it were long-term.
20:36And he was very transparent with me.
20:37He said, look, this is likely never going to be 100%.
20:41He said, that's just how that injury goes.
20:43It's very complicated.
20:44We've talked about it quite a bit.
20:46There's not much blood flow to that talus bone.
20:48He said, so we're not expecting that.
20:50We've been honest with Jett.
20:52As a team, we've been honest.
20:54Don't expect this to ever.
20:55He's like, we'll get the full range of motion back eventually,
20:58but it will never be the same.
20:59So what we are dealing with now
21:01is working around it.
21:03He has to adapt.
21:05He has to compensate.
21:06And he has to slightly change his riding style
21:09for certain things,
21:10especially at the moment without full range of motion
21:12that he can't do.
21:14And Doc G said,
21:15that's the thing that's frustrating Jett most
21:17is he's not able to do anything that he wants to do.
21:21And he said, that will improve and it will come.
21:23But he also said, most notably,
21:25that he's incredibly impressed with Jett
21:27and how he's been able to adapt.
21:30And that, James, is probably just due to his level of skill,
21:33but he's been able to work around it very quickly.
21:35Oh, absolutely.
21:36And I got the same info as well.
21:38And for most people, I mean,
21:40this could be not only just career ending,
21:41but the way you altered your life on just your every day.
21:45So the fact that this guy has came out
21:47just shows you how mentally strong he is.
21:49But I will say one thing,
21:50he's got the right team of people around him.
21:52He also has the right riding style
21:54to be able to get away with an injury like this,
21:57being very patient.
21:58You've got to change and adapt your riding style.
22:00and Jett Lawrence is one of the best ever to do that.
22:03And, you know,
22:04from what we saw that first practice to this,
22:06you know, he was really aggressive.
22:08Things start,
22:08that clock started rushing really fast
22:10when you look at how fast your brother is.
22:12Jett Lawrence has got the right body's tight,
22:15the right mindset to come back from injury,
22:17and he's only going to get better throughout this season.
22:20We have now heard that Eli Tomac is awake and alert,
22:23being transported, though,
22:25for further evaluation.
22:27So a big bummer there for the legend,
22:29number three Eli Tomac,
22:30going out of this race on the first lap.
22:32Certainly we hope the best for him.
22:35As Lawrence is now right there with Hampshire.
22:39Hampshire is riding well,
22:40but it's almost like you see Jett just improve
22:42a little bit almost each lap of the race.
22:44No, he is.
22:45I mean, we were sitting here watching practice earlier.
22:47You know, he was really rushing things,
22:49and I had a chance to speak to Jett,
22:50and he said that that's so easy to happen,
22:53whether it's an injury or not.
22:54That clock runs really fast
22:56when you get in this race,
22:58you know, race atmosphere,
22:59and the guy that's been off for all that time.
23:01But I believe this is a very important couple laps for Jett,
23:04because if he's able to get around RJ,
23:06he might have an opportunity to get on the podium,
23:08but even more,
23:09he doesn't want to get stuck behind him
23:11and then let that 38 close in,
23:13because all the stuff that he's been doing,
23:15he's going to have to be worried about him.
23:16So, great route by all these guys,
23:18but these next couple laps might end up...
23:21Hempshire, I think, stalled it in that corner,
23:22maybe hit neutral.
23:24Lost speed.
23:25Here comes Lawrence.
23:26Yeah, let's see if Jett scrubs this.
23:27If he just runs it up the inside,
23:29he should have this pass,
23:30because he'll be able to close that gap.
23:33RJ's going to fight, though.
23:35Not enough.
23:36This camera angle, great pass by him.
23:39Let's see if he can now keep that momentum up
23:41and go towards Chase Sexton up in fourth place.
23:45Got to check in on that leader,
23:47because he's all by himself at this point.
23:50Hunter Lawrence, almost six seconds out front.
23:53I mean, Jason, what can you say?
23:55I mean, I'm just impressed to see him out here fighting at this level,
23:59considering how difficult that championship was a couple weeks ago.
24:03He looks great, JT.
24:04He does, and if you looked up the word resilience in the dictionary,
24:08you might find a picture of Hunter Lawrence next to it.
24:11Think about the heartbreak that this guy went through.
24:13I had the pleasure and also torment of interviewing him
24:17right after he lost that championship to Ken Roxen,
24:20and you could see the heartbreak and the pain that was going through him.
24:24It was palpable down there on the floor of Rice-Eckel Stadium,
24:27and for him to bounce back three weeks later into,
24:30I don't want to say run away,
24:32but he's pulled a five-and-a-half-second lead now out.
24:35Think about how much he's had to summon himself,
24:38find himself, and bring his best effort to this race.
24:41I don't have enough good things to say
24:42about what we're seeing from Hunter Lawrence right now.
24:44I agree, and the cool part about that, JT,
24:46he stayed down there to allow to be interviewed.
24:49That just shows you what kind of person it is.
24:51But even more than just being resilient,
24:54I think this is what this is.
24:55The way he's raced this first moto,
24:57what it tells me, and I'm sure Hunter's thinking that,
25:00what happened at Supercross isn't a fluke,
25:02because this is what we saw in Supercross.
25:05Like, he was just steady, made it look easy,
25:07just pulled away from those guys,
25:09and at one point of that whole series,
25:10he was the best guy, and it wasn't even really close.
25:13So for Hunter, I'm coming back with all that heartbreak.
25:17At least I come back out here,
25:18and it feels just like I left a few weeks ago,
25:21and that only looked well for him moving forward.
25:25No further back, Deegan now has Hampshire in sight.
25:29So the rookie here is seventh in his first 450 pro motocross race.
25:32Can he make up any more positions?
25:34Hampshire would be next, and then Jett Lawrence up the road.
25:37The gap between Lawrence and Deegan has stayed around a three to four second mark
25:41for about 15 minutes now.
25:44There's Lawrence, there's Hampshire, here's Deegan.
25:47Yeah, I think this is where Hayden, when you talked earlier about,
25:50he wants to win, but also that backup plan.
25:53And I think people might look at it as like he's, you know, making excuses.
25:56But I think what Hayden is, he's very, you know,
25:59he understands how great these guys are.
26:01And to sit here and be like, I want to win,
26:03and kind of overlook the fact that they're that good,
26:06it's not what he does.
26:07He's got too good of a team around him.
26:09So you hear Hayden, when he says, I'm here to learn,
26:11he's really giving props to the guys around him,
26:14because he knows how deep this 450 class is.
26:16And so he understands that races, if you don't get stars,
26:20you might end up in seventh place with a good rod.
26:23So Hayden's smart enough.
26:24It looks like to me, he's sitting back, just learning,
26:26and hopefully he finishes top this moto off, solid supposition.
26:31Yes, because for all the bluster, all the top of Hayden Deegan,
26:34the one thing he has been mentioning lately
26:36that he takes the most pride in is he never missed a single 250 race
26:41due to injury.
26:42So there is a method, even though it looks like pure madness,
26:46there is a method to that madness as far as consistency and building
26:50and learning, and then coming back to next time.
26:53And it's awfully close now.
26:54You can still see Jet, and you can see Hampshire right there.
26:58Here's Danger Boy.
26:58Yeah, and we know, what do we know about Hayden?
27:01Towards those end of the race, man, this guy never lets off.
27:04And I go back to what I said a couple laps ago with Jet Lawrence.
27:07That pass around RJ was very important because of who was behind him.
27:10If Hayden smelled that blood, I don't care if it's his first race or 300.
27:14This guy will not give up.
27:16And you give him an opportunity, he's going to try to seize it.
27:19And so Hayden, Deegan's doing a great job.
27:22He's always going to be there, and he's learning as we, you know,
27:26every lap that goes by.
27:27All right, he's putting in a charge right now.
27:29Two minutes and two laps to go.
27:31The fans barbecuing up at the top of the hillsides.
27:34That's motocross tradition.
27:35Getting up close to the action.
27:37Look at that crowd there.
27:38And a lot of them wanted to see this.
27:40They got a little Lawrence versus Deegan in this moto.
27:43Is there anything left in it?
27:45Yeah, it ain't done with.
27:47All that smoke up there, I was thinking it was Cooper Webb from last year.
27:49His bike's up.
27:50He was smoking, but.
27:52Yeah, the one thing with Hayden, as he's learning,
27:55because of how great he's been and some of the comments that he's made,
27:58you got to look at him.
27:59When he's making passes, I think it's like the defending Super Bowl champion.
28:03You get the best from everyone.
28:05So when he's making a pass on RJ, anybody else?
28:07Oh, no.
28:08That is Chase Sexton.
28:11Ah, bummer for Chase.
28:13Yeah, so now he slid down to seventh right there.
28:17Wow.
28:18I don't know if he stalled it or whatnot, but.
28:21Yeah, is he back underway?
28:23I think he did come across, so eventually got the bike going.
28:26Well, he was third.
28:27Then it looked like it was going to be a fourth.
28:29And then he'll drop the 2024 champion of the series.
28:33Back to seventh as mentioned.
28:35And Deegan is definitely digging down the stretch now.
28:38Yeah, he's digging in, but he's also coming up to a guy
28:42who's kind of like him as the race goes on.
28:44RJ is the same way.
28:45He never gives up.
28:46Really strong.
28:47And, you know, still a good ride by Hayden.
28:50Sixth, if he can get past RJ, top five.
28:53But the main thing is he saw Jet Lawrence.
28:55He saw that pace.
28:56And if you can keep it on two wheels, there's always something to build.
29:00So I'm sure he's going to be disappointed that he was ahead of Jet at one point
29:03and got past, but he's also taking notes while that was going on.
29:06Yeah, I mean, he has to take notes.
29:08And that's what I was saying back to my point.
29:10You know, I think Hayden understands that as much as he talks,
29:14these guys are generation.
29:16Jet Lawrence is Victor Wimbiana.
29:18He's a freak.
29:19He's an alien out here.
29:20So you're not just going to roll over.
29:21So once he made that pass, Jet was going to come back.
29:24So Hayden knows that or if not, I'm sure the guys that start racing will let him know
29:27as he makes the pass on RJ.
29:30Quick work of RJ there in that roller section.
29:32So now Deegan is going to be fifth.
29:35Jet Lawrence up to fourth.
29:37Top of the way.
29:38Jet has finished top three in 51 of the 54 motos he's competed in this class.
29:45He's not too far back at Justin Cooper, but might not get a podium in this one.
29:50Yeah, as dominant as this guy's been, Jet Lawrence, especially at this race,
29:53because he's never lost.
29:54Come here, if you finish on a podium, it feels like a failure
29:57compared to all this other success.
29:59But I think this is a great moto for Jet because it's gotten better.
30:03He looks a lot better, and he was able to hold off Hayden when Hayden was going
30:06if he can finish this thing off.
30:08And the boy got us out front.
30:10Elise is your brother, so you understand how good he is.
30:13We know how good Jorge is.
30:14So I think it's all right for Jet Lawrence.
30:19And that gap stays about the same, that two to four-second range between Jet and Deegan
30:24as they followed each other from outside the top ten to in it.
30:28And Justin Cooper, as he always does, hanging strong around those podium positions,
30:33the rider out of New York on the Yamaha, a steady third.
30:37Prado stalking Hunter for the first half of this one, and Hunter got away.
30:42Does Deegan have a charge in him?
30:43Can he get to Jet one more time with two to go?
30:46Yeah, I mean, Hayden ran this 2-19-7, that last lap, compared to Jet, 2-20-6.
30:54But both those guys were – Jet was a faster – second faster, Justin Cooper.
30:59Hayden was two seconds faster.
31:00So that gap's starting to close.
31:02If Justin doesn't keep this pace up in the next lap and a half,
31:05he's going to have that number one all over him.
31:07Yeah, because there is a major carrot dangling in front of Deegan.
31:12You know he wants to get to Lawrence.
31:13Lawrence doesn't want to let him do it.
31:15And that's going to bring them closer to this 32, who is in third.
31:19Lap and a half to go.
31:21If you're Justin Cooper, you'd be like, all this hype.
31:23I'm the number one guy on the race team out here.
31:26That's right.
31:26You know, with his team.
31:27But not, you know, not unexpected with Justin Cooper.
31:31He's really good.
31:33This next lap and a half or half a lap is going to tell you whether he can hold this
31:37off.
31:38Okay, here's the gap.
31:39That's a lap rider and another one.
31:41Cooper hits the top of that left-hander.
31:43Then there's Jet Lawrence.
31:45Then another rider a lap down.
31:48Yeah, Jet lost some time.
31:49So I wonder if he got stuck behind these guys or Justin picked it up.
31:54There's Deegan.
31:55He's still pushing.
31:56Oh, yeah.
31:58He kind of knows, like, if he's going to have any shot at Jet,
32:01it would have to be why he's stuck behind these lapers.
32:03But Jet seems like he's cleared it.
32:05A little hard, but almost just a little over a lap and a half left.
32:09I don't know if there's going to be any changes now.
32:10White flag about to fly.
32:13Hunter Lawrence looking to start this season so well.
32:17Prado solid in second.
32:19And Justin Cooper doing what he does.
32:21Way under the radar.
32:23Not a lot of talk.
32:24No hype for this guy.
32:25But looking to put it on the podium.
32:27That's what he does.
32:27I was talking to his team and his mechanic earlier.
32:30They say, honestly, in some ways,
32:32Jay Coop might actually almost be too smart.
32:35He's very calculated, very analytical.
32:37That's why he's been incredibly consistent in his career,
32:40but doesn't have as many race wins
32:43as the riders he's generally battling with on the track.
32:46Justin Cooper has never missed a pro motocross race since he turned pro,
32:52which is an astounding stat.
32:54250 and 450 class has never not lined up for a race.
32:58He's been able to stay healthy for the most part.
33:00And now one lap to go for the man who is the poster child
33:04for left brain thinking, the logical, analytical, unemotional 96.
33:09If there's anyone equipped to take a heartbreaking loss in Supercross,
33:13put it behind him, and win two weeks later, it's this guy right here.
33:17Absolutely.
33:18Absolutely.
33:19I mean, we could go on days about what makes Hunter Lawrence a Hunter Lawrence.
33:23I mean, yes, he has the talent.
33:24He has the team.
33:24He has a perfect system.
33:26But what he has is an understanding and, you know, realization on life.
33:31He has perspective.
33:32And that guy, to be Jet Lawrence's brother, to be your younger brother,
33:36taking all this hype, finished second to him two years in a row,
33:40really close to lose another championship by one point
33:42when you could almost say he was the best guy through the latter,
33:45at least the second part of that season.
33:48But to always get back up and fight and to live through that,
33:52that's why he can come out here and have a board and race
33:55when we have all this hype of everybody else.
33:57This guy's been doing, shows up, and does exactly what he did a few weeks ago
34:01in Supercross and made it look really easy to make.
34:04And technically, this will actually be two straight moto wins
34:07because Hunter won the final moto of last year.
34:10He was able to hold Jet off at Bucks Creek at the last race of the year
34:13and talking to some people at the team with Honda,
34:17including Trey Canard, their test rider.
34:19He said that's a big breakthrough as Hunter was getting closer and closer.
34:22We saw him hold Jet off at the halfway point of the season
34:25at Millville, Minnesota.
34:27He has been getting closer and closer to that elusive 450 title.
34:31He don't get much closer than he was a few weeks ago in Supercross.
34:35Could this be the campaign where he gets it done?
34:39You can't start it any better.
34:40No, it looks good.
34:42As I said during Supercross, nobody's raced this version of Hunter Lawrence.
34:46I mean, he hasn't seen this probably the best his whole career,
34:49and this is what you get.
34:51This guy has it all.
34:53And all is going to include the first moto win of the year.
34:56Maybe not the hype of everyone else.
34:58How about the results?
35:00Hunter Lawrence wins the first moto of 2026.
35:05And it's going to battle right down to the line.
35:07Solid run for Prado's second.
35:10And J. Coop is going to take it across in third.
35:13He takes a look over.
35:14Holds off Hunter or Jet Lawrence just behind Prado and Hunter.
35:19And welcome back to ProMotoCross.
35:21I don't think Jet Lawrence is 100%, but it's enough to score points.
