00:00E ainda tem uma parte de cima do motor, 4.50 moto 2, Hunter Lawrence, Jorge Prado, Justin Cooper, top
00:083 em moto 1.
00:10Will it change for the second moto? There's a lot of riders capable of doing it.
00:14So here we go, it's time to go racing.
00:25I think Hunter's got it this time.
00:28And Prado as well, no changes, Plessinger 3rd, and that's Webb, I think, right there.
00:34Cooper Webb, great start, but Jorge Prado, exactly where he wanted to be.
00:39If I'm him, I think I'm going to attack Hunter Lawrence early in his race as he tries to go
00:44up the inside.
00:45He understands, he knows the playbook with these guys.
00:48I think Jorge's got to be really aggressive this opening moto, this second moto.
00:52Here it is around the outside, Prado looking for running room.
00:56All over Hunter, he goes from outside to inside, Hunter cuts it off.
01:00Great ride by Hunter, he's used to this.
01:02We saw with Ken Rockson how good he was at Supercross, Hunter had a few times.
01:06Got it again though.
01:08And Prado shoots to the lead.
01:10Put the power down.
01:11You can see that the urgency of Jorge, he probably sat behind Hunter,
01:16real thinking that he might be able to get him later in the moto.
01:18And I agree with JT, he definitely saved something.
01:21What he saved was a pass that was waiting to happen this second moto.
01:24Great start.
01:24And you can see, James, he is trying to sprint out.
01:28Yeah, he wants to be out front.
01:29I mean, is this one of the first times that we've seen him out front to moto cross?
01:34If not, at least like this, it has been.
01:35Yeah, but it's got to feel like old habit because back in Europe where he won multiple titles,
01:39this is where he did his best work from the front.
01:42And that was the playbook, and he executed it perfectly.
01:45Yes, he did.
01:46You can tell they put down some water on the track.
01:49Some sections a little bit more than others.
01:51That lap section was really slippery.
01:52So Hunter Lawrence is a smart rider.
01:54He's very patient.
01:55He knows this is a long race.
01:57See how this company laps play out, probably regroup.
02:00And then he knows he's got a battle with the number 26.
02:04Third is Plessinger, Hampshire, then Webb.
02:07Ferrandez battling sixth and sixth.
02:11Deegan is in tenth.
02:12Jet Lawrence is eighth.
02:13So they're near each other again, but not the starts they wanted.
02:16Yeah, I think everybody, especially if you're, you know, hey, Deegan,
02:20you're probably more aggressive trying to get up,
02:22especially if you're close to that Jet Lawrence.
02:24You don't want him to get comfortable.
02:25You saw what happened that first moto,
02:27but it looks like Ferrandez moved up.
02:30I don't know if Cooper Webb went down and made a few mistakes,
02:32but he definitely slipped down.
02:34Battle.
02:35Look at this battle.
02:36I'm going to say that's going from Hampshire in fourth to Harrah back in tenth.
02:41They're all wheel to wheel right now.
02:43It looks like Cooper Webb made the pass.
02:45I mean, got passed by his teammate.
02:47So just like that first moto,
02:49Deegan, Jet Lawrence in the pack,
02:51battling for eighth and ninth.
02:53I believe the same positions.
02:54Yeah.
02:54A little earlier and closer to the lead.
02:58And Hunter Lawrence doing all he can to keep Prado in sight.
03:01He knows what Prado wants to do.
03:03He's not going to let him break it.
03:05And he's going right back after it.
03:07Look at this.
03:09Yeah, it goes outside.
03:10Let's see if he can slingshot around there.
03:13And one of the narratives with Jorge during Supercross today,
03:16he's very tough to pass.
03:18We're going to find that firsthand, the race craft.
03:20I think it's more race craft than anything,
03:22but he's in a position where he's leading and dictating the pace.
03:25Let's see what he does as he's going to get passed back in the same spot.
03:29How about that?
03:31Same area on the track.
03:32Hunter gets it back.
03:33Prado up the inside.
03:34Down and up.
03:35Hunter Lawrence back in the lead, JT.
03:38Well, if Jorge Prado's defensive riding was a football team,
03:41it'd be the 85 Bears.
03:43That's what he's bringing to the table.
03:44And as soon as I say that, Hunter made a move on him.
03:47But I'm just telling you,
03:47there's some things that are very difficult in life,
03:50and then there's passing Jorge Prado,
03:52but Hunter Lawrence just did just that.
03:54Yeah, now it's Hunter's turn to try to get away.
03:55Go ahead, Jim.
03:56Well, Jorge's 85, then Hunter is the greatest show on turf.
04:012001 Rams, or turf corner Rams right there.
04:04We got offense versus defense here.
04:06Offense winning it at the moment.
04:08Now let's see if Hunter can pull away.
04:10Bottom box, JT Lawrence going after Sexton.
04:14I mean, normally when you're talking about Sexton and JT Lawrence,
04:17that's the battle for the moto win.
04:18That's how deep the field is this year.
04:20It's fifth and sixth.
04:21Yeah, crazy.
04:22Go back a year for now.
04:23Your defending champion was Chase Sexton.
04:25We thought he would be the only one
04:27that might be able to beat JT Lawrence
04:29after battling for seasons,
04:31and now they're battling it back in the pack.
04:33But that shows you how deep it is.
04:34But to me, JT Lawrence looks a little bit more aggressive
04:38in the opening few laps this moto
04:40than he did that second one.
04:43And he made a mistake, Will.
04:47I was talking to Lars Lindstrom team manager,
04:48Honda HRC there, James,
04:50just to see if they had made any adjustments for JT.
04:53You heard me in the ground the burn there
04:55talking about the adjustment they made
04:56on the clutch for the start.
04:58But as far as the bike goes,
04:59there was some suspension changes made.
05:01He said it was a little bit soft in that first moto,
05:03and he did get arm pumped during that.
05:06So they're just obviously trying to avoid that,
05:08avoid that sort of fighting the bike
05:10and sitting back on it there,
05:11just to try and give him a little bit more comfort
05:13and, you know, give him that ability
05:15to be able to kind of push through
05:16and late into the moto.
05:18That actually makes sense,
05:19and it's expected when you think about
05:21a rider who hasn't raced all year,
05:23coming soft as he almost loops out right there,
05:25he hasn't been pushing his pace at all at home.
05:28So it's not surprising he would come to a race,
05:30pick up the pace, and his bike be too soft.
05:33Looks a lot better this second moto,
05:36but then you got the rotting partners
05:38coming off injury.
05:42RJ and then the cowboy, Aaron Plessinger,
05:45and they're still right behind Jorge, so.
05:47Yeah, they're hanging in there, actually.
05:49Plessinger had the good start,
05:50and as he's dealing with his buddy, Hempshire,
05:54they've got the 26th in sight,
05:55and here's RJ doing what RJ does,
05:57just fighting it with everything he's got.
05:59Yeah, if anybody knows what RJ does,
06:02you know he's always going to be there,
06:04but then you got this battle of Chase Sexton
06:07and Jet Lawrence coming up on these guys,
06:10so I don't know about you, Jason,
06:11but I just sense Chase looks a little bit better
06:14in this moto, but also Jet as well.
06:16They're close to second place right there.
06:19You know, one of the big questions I had this morning,
06:21just running through my mind thinking about this,
06:22is where would the Plessinger, Hempshire types fit in?
06:26Oh no, and down goes Sexton.
06:29Yeah, tough break right there.
06:31I mean, they put some water down,
06:33but it's a small crash,
06:35but for Chase, I just know for him,
06:36after that first moto, top three,
06:39it's a big crash just mentally for him.
06:41He just seems like he can't get the ball rolling,
06:44especially this year.
06:46Hopefully he gets back up and keeps charging for it.
06:48I think he'd have Ferrandez and Deegan behind him
06:50when he picked it up,
06:51see if he can get back up to pace,
06:54and actually that would move Jet Lawrence to third overall,
06:57but it's very early right now.
07:00Plessinger and Hempshire are still battling,
07:02and there's Jet.
07:04Jet can finish on a podium today if things stay the same,
07:08and it would be his worst finish ever.
07:12Podium's terrible.
07:13Terrible.
07:14Yeah, but back to what I was saying.
07:17With this field being so deep,
07:19we talk about all the riders that have won titles
07:21into the 250 or 450 class outdoors.
07:24Plessinger does have one,
07:25but I was wondering where would the likes of these two fit right in,
07:29and honestly, pretty darn well right now.
07:31Yeah, I mean, both these guys got talent.
07:33You know, that question,
07:34I would be more concerned about Aaron,
07:36how healthy he is,
07:38and just with the thing.
07:39With RJ, you know,
07:40you're going to get 100% no matter what it is.
07:42So if he's in 10, he's in 10, he's leading.
07:44He's going to ride the same.
07:45So for him, he would be where he's at.
07:48Aaron would be more the wild card there,
07:50but great to see him there,
07:51especially coming off the injury,
07:52and they're going to have their hands full with the 38.
07:55I think all these guys are going to end up closing up
07:57before it's ended his moto.
08:00Deegan battling Miranda.
08:01This is the pro motocross debut for that bike.
08:04This is Hottie Desmo.
08:05Charlie designs it Red Bull Racing,
08:07but Deegan's got to go,
08:09and he makes the move.
08:11Yeah.
08:12No.
08:13Miranda's trying to get him back.
08:17But Hayden's got it done.
08:19Yeah, he got the power down,
08:20but Ben Downs said earlier
08:21how when Hayden comes up and past these guys,
08:24like he's just going to get the best version of him,
08:26like a champion.
08:27You can see aggressive Dylan.
08:29What Dylan didn't want that path to happen,
08:31and they all want to beat him.
08:32I mean, at the end of the day,
08:34you know where this guy's going towards the future,
08:36and there's a lot on the line for Dylan and the Ducati.
08:41Also, they have to hold him back there.
08:43Hey, we've heard Malcolm Stewart,
08:44your brother, out of this photo.
08:45Not sure what happened.
08:46Actually just rode past our booth here
08:48on the motorcycle,
08:49at least under his own power.
08:51That's a bummer there for the 27.
08:55A lot of battling to watch
08:56as Jett continues to close on Hampshire and Bessinger.
09:00Yeah, I'll find out what's going on with Malcolm.
09:02Big J's on my flight tonight,
09:03so he'll tell me all about it.
09:05But, yeah, Jett lost a little bit of time that last laugh,
09:08but he must have made a mistake
09:09because he clearly was able to close in on R.J.
09:12and hit him with the Jett effect right there.
09:14R.J. made a mistake.
09:16It's good to see the number one riding like this.
09:18I can tell you it looks a lot better
09:20than he did that first moto,
09:21but as we talked about,
09:22he's been getting better all day long, JT.
09:25He has been getting better,
09:26but I wonder what percentage you would put on Jett right now.
09:28I'm going to say 85 to 90% of full Jett Warren's power right now.
09:33He's not doing the magical type Jett maneuvers on the race track.
09:37I think he just looks a little tentative,
09:40and that could be lack of riding.
09:41That could be protecting his foot.
09:42That could just be, hey, I can't make a big mistake
09:45and hurt myself here,
09:45but I'd like to know your perspective on that, James.
09:48Yes, he looks fine,
09:49but Jett Lawrence is usually far from fine.
09:52He usually looks like one of the greatest riders I've ever seen.
09:55Yeah, well, he still looks like that to me,
09:57and I think what it is is that, yeah,
09:59he might be a little bit faster if he was 100% attacking things,
10:03but what it is is that how easy he usually makes it look,
10:06where he's able to repeat these laps over and over,
10:09and all day we just see that it looks hard for him to repeat.
10:13To me, the second moto and the end of that first moto,
10:15he's starting to look to where he can ride this pace,
10:18and obviously he's fast enough to close in on these guys,
10:20so I think the rust is coming from,
10:22they're saying he's lacking speed,
10:24but lacking that the Jett Lawrence,
10:26I can do this in my sleep kind of action
10:31that he's going to have to grow with and keep working on,
10:34but he looks good to me.
10:37Certainly look good there as he closes in on Plessinger.
10:40Nice return, running third for AP.
10:42He had a hip injury in Supercross,
10:45just a rough Supercross campaign for AP altogether.
10:50I talked to him yesterday.
10:51He said, yeah, I got a few motos under my belt.
10:53I don't think he's coming here in a full 100% fitness,
10:57but he's riding well, at least at the moment.
11:00That's the good news.
11:01The bad news is there's still 19 minutes and two laps to go.
11:04Yeah, and you know, APs, like I've seen this scene before,
11:08you know, Jett Lawrence has, yeah, lets him go.
11:11Sometimes it's a rider, especially in AP position,
11:13he doesn't want to hold him back,
11:14and he kind of knows he's not 100%.
11:16This guy's going, so it makes that pass a little easier
11:20than maybe some other times,
11:21but Jett's moving towards the front,
11:23and the next person is Jorge Prada,
11:26about five seconds in front of him.
11:27I don't know if he has anything for his older brother.
11:30Hunter Lawrence looks great, but still, great ride by him.
11:34Yeah, last time around, Prada's laptop
11:36was actually a little quicker than Jett Lawrence.
11:39We'll see if it changes out that he's not in a battle,
11:40and here's Jett talking about just being happy
11:43being back on the motorcycle.
11:47Yeah, I can't wait.
11:49I've been telling my team all I want to do
11:51is just get on the bike, just get me on the bike.
11:53That's all I want to do, like, you know,
11:55we always have all the media stuff and all that.
11:57I'm just like, I couldn't care less about that.
12:00I just want to be in my happy place on my dirt bike,
12:02you know, that's where I have my most fun.
12:04I've had a lot of fun here, obviously, at Parler as well.
12:07So, I just can't wait to go out there
12:09and get the, you know, that adrenaline rushing again,
12:12you know, because you just don't get the same feeling
12:14when you're practicing to when you're racing.
12:16So, I'm just, I'm just excited, man.
12:19I'm like a little kid that's really wanting to go race
12:21on the weekends as an amateur and stuff like that.
12:24So, I'm excited to get back out there in this race
12:27and have those first race, like, jitters again
12:30and stuff like that.
12:31And I just honestly just can't wait.
12:34Jet, they're excited to go racing,
12:36but as far as actually being on his motorcycle,
12:39it was about nine weeks kind of post
12:41him sort of getting back on it to this point.
12:44And I think a lot of people, including myself,
12:46thought that meant a lot of outdoor testing.
12:49And we know that translates not just for Jet,
12:51but over to Hunter's bike as well
12:53because their setups are so similar.
12:55But checking in with crew chief,
12:56right at Hutchison today, he said,
12:59no, that wasn't the case
13:00because they had to wait so long
13:01for Jet to sort of get back to pace after the injury.
13:04But really, that testing time didn't exist.
13:07So, he said, what we're looking at for both the guys,
13:09really, is mostly post Salt Lake City,
13:13which was just a few weeks back.
13:14So, incredible, really, to think that they're
13:16in this comfort point that they are right now
13:19with the motorbike, both Hunter running up front there
13:21and Jet in third, with really just a few weeks prep.
13:25And he reflected back to sort of this time last year
13:27and he said, to look back where we were then
13:29at the season opener and how far we've come.
13:31where we are now with the motorcycle,
13:33except that's just a night and day comparison.
13:35Yeah, it is.
13:37And again, as I said earlier,
13:39when we were talking to JT,
13:40so if you watch Jet Lawrence here
13:42and if you watched him in his past,
13:43what he does really good,
13:45he's very patient,
13:46he's very light on the motorcycle.
13:47And what I noticed today
13:48is that he's sitting down
13:50a little bit more than normal,
13:52a lot of these sections.
13:53and where he's sitting down
13:54is anywhere where it's a lot of force
13:56on his lower body.
13:58And you can tell, like, he's on the back,
13:59he's overjumping things,
14:01which tells me when he overjumps it,
14:03you can see his body collapse.
14:05So, he's kind of protecting that foot.
14:07But, again, with this guy,
14:08he's dealing with a life,
14:10a career injury.
14:13So, no mistake.
14:15I mean, not really harping on him,
14:16but a lot of this is coming down for him,
14:18just rust and learning how to be
14:19the new version of Jet Lawrence
14:21with this injury
14:22until he gets it back 100%.
14:26The broken talus in his foot,
14:29yeah, that's expected to take.
14:31They were thinking it here.
14:33They knew they could take time off of it
14:34with all the rehab technology
14:36that they do have.
14:37But this is a pretty tough sport
14:39every time you land
14:40one of these obstacles
14:41to deal with.
14:42When I heard him say yesterday
14:44that it hurts when he's riding,
14:45you know, with his toes,
14:47the ball, his foot,
14:48and the foot peg,
14:48and he lands his jump.
14:49But I'm thinking,
14:50well, he's riding like that
14:51all the way around the racetrack.
14:52That's a lot.
14:53Yeah, it is.
14:55And if you, again,
14:56you watch him off that tabletop,
14:57you can see him.
14:58He's just squatting a little bit.
15:00Some of these areas were last year.
15:02I think he'd be standing up.
15:03And a lot of that's just from not riding.
15:05The lower body's got to build it.
15:06But if you watch his body language,
15:08he's got better all day.
15:09But any time he gets in these
15:11really a lot of G-forces on his body,
15:14you can see him kind of moving his body around
15:16and absorb that.
15:17And that, to me,
15:18it's just going to take a little bit of time.
15:19But this is the worst he's going to be.
15:21And he's in third place.
15:23Then these guys are going to be in for a long summer.
15:25Maybe not him.
15:27Yeah, exactly.
15:28Got a long way to go to get to Hunter.
15:30He's 10 seconds up the road.
15:31Deegan.
15:33Next work of RJ Hampshire.
15:35He's still digging.
15:36Had a lap or two ago.
15:37The entire pace picked up.
15:38Everyone jumped into the 18s.
15:42Deegan's still going for it.
15:44Fifth.
15:44Now, fifth in Moto1.
15:45Yeah, I think it's, again, good rock for Hayden.
15:50And what he's going to end up doing is learning how this 450 works out,
15:54you know, during the second motors.
15:56Because it's one thing, you can have all this talent,
15:58but just the bike and being at this level,
16:00Hayden's got to learn how to work on that, his whole team.
16:03So he'll get better with the motorcycle as well.
16:05And for the spotlight here,
16:07Kyle Webster on the Quad Lock Honda team
16:09filling in for the injured Joey Sabacci,
16:12multi-time champ of racing down in Australia.
16:15Going to give him the Rocky Mountain ATV
16:16Provincial Profile hookup here.
16:19Good to see Kyle who races a couple of races in America a year
16:23because he's been a big part of the Australian team
16:25along with the Lawrence's at the Motocross of Nations.
16:29Talked to him yesterday.
16:31He admitted it's going to be tough against his field,
16:33but he's riding well right now in 13th.
16:36So he's hovering around that top 10.
16:38Yeah, he's riding really good.
16:40You're talking about how difficult this racetrack is.
16:42When he's going down that hill and that drone shot,
16:44you can see his bike swapping back and forth.
16:48And us normal folks, you just want to, you would think,
16:51slow down, and he can't.
16:52So you have to almost pick up speed to bring that out.
16:55And it's the opposite of what your body or your mind tells you to do.
16:58But guys are always dealing with these challenges.
17:01Another challenge is this racetrack.
17:04Yes, Deegan, that's the challenge for Plessinger now.
17:07This would be for fourth.
17:11Sexton, still back there at seventh.
17:13Justin Cooper, great in Moto 1 with third.
17:17He's back in eighth right now.
17:18So we're looking at a Lawrence Prado Lawrence
17:21overall podium today.
17:23Deegan would be fifth behind Cooper,
17:26but making some moves right now.
17:28Yeah, I think Aaron,
17:30Hayden's got to try to get around him if he does.
17:32In the same place he made that pass on Dillon,
17:34because the number four, Kawasaki Chase Sexton,
17:37is coming back up.
17:38He can see those guys.
17:40Aaron's not so fast, young kid.
17:43He's coming back.
17:44But I think Hayden should have the momentum,
17:46and that inside line is a little bit slower going in that corner.
17:49So he's got him clear.
17:51Now put Deegan into fourth in the Moto,
17:55and now would jump him to fourth overall ahead of Justin Cooper.
18:01Halfway through the Moto,
18:02reminder to stock up Monster Energy at Stater Brothers.
18:08Yeah, Jet's about,
18:11about six, seven seconds in front of Hayden.
18:14Hayden takes a peek.
18:15You can see him,
18:15but it might be hard to run that number one down.
18:20Never count this dude out, though.
18:21Oh, you know he'd like to.
18:24And Prado wasn't able to cover Hunter Lawrence in this one,
18:28but Jet has not really made up any time on him
18:30when he got to third.
18:32So Prado, as expected, a player today.
18:35And, you know, he's thinking he's going to be a player in it all year.
18:39Yeah, really impressed with, you know, all these guys,
18:42but even Hunter Lawrence just running these 218s consistently.
18:46Fastest guy on the racetrack,
18:49holding all these guys at bay.
18:51You've got R.J. battling with Plessinger again.
18:54They've been battling all day,
18:55and Sexton is back,
18:57closing the gap.
18:59And R.J., quick move.
19:01Yeah, good move by R.J.
19:03You can tell Aaron being off pretty much most of this year,
19:06it seems like,
19:06definitely with a lot of injuries,
19:08starting to stand up,
19:09laboring a little bit.
19:10Easy to happen.
19:11First motor of the year,
19:13but coming off injuries, tough for him.
19:15Chase is going to have to try to make this pass
19:16really quickly as he does on the inside.
19:20All right, yeah,
19:21it's coming unraveled a bit,
19:22almost understandable for Plessinger.
19:25Not too much riding coming into the opener
19:27of Pro Motocross.
19:29Sexton trying to salvage something.
19:31really hard to rate the day for Sexton
19:34because of those two crashes.
19:36Who knows?
19:36He could have been in podium position.
19:38Yeah, but I think Chase can kind of salvage the day.
19:41If he's able to make the pass on R.J.,
19:44it's not going to be where he wants to be at,
19:46but he's getting a lot of info on the motorcycle.
19:48Give him a direction.
19:49Are we close?
19:50And he looks like he's aggressive,
19:52but every time he's been in that spot,
19:54he's kind of gone down.
19:54So is that him or maybe the motorcycle?
19:57But I love to see the number four moving forward.
20:00It's very important.
20:01Hey, Deacon's only a few seconds up the track.
20:02Oh, that could be a spicy one.
20:04Still 10 minutes and two laps to go
20:06as Sexton makes that move on Hampshire.
20:11Now let's flash you back to Moto1
20:13while we have a moment here.
20:14The one rider we expected to be in this battle
20:16that is not is the legend Eli Tomac,
20:18the fourth-time champ.
20:19This is the first lap of the year,
20:21left side of the screen.
20:22Yeah, just a racing incident.
20:23And the last time Eli was on the racetrack
20:26in Salt Lake City,
20:27something similar kind of happened to that.
20:29So a tough break for him,
20:31but more on Eli.
20:33Let's go down the wheel.
20:35Thank you, James.
20:36Well, he didn't leave the facility here
20:38and he went for further evaluation
20:39and it was the neck area that they were looking at.
20:42But X-ray showed that there are no broken bones,
20:46which is obviously very good news.
20:47But there is a neck strain
20:49and they will be taking a further look at that this week.
20:52So we'll get further evaluation this week.
20:56Thank you, Bill.
20:56Yeah, that's the scary part, right?
20:58This is now three times
20:59that we've seen Tomac go down.
21:01He crashed the whoops
21:02at the qualifying at Cleveland Supercross.
21:04Then the crash early in the night
21:06at Salt Lake City.
21:07Now this.
21:08So they're starting to stack up.
21:09They're certainly hoping for the best.
21:12Yeah.
21:13Yeah, that's tough.
21:14And as you get older,
21:16it's the healing, the recovery part
21:17that maybe takes a little bit longer
21:19to compare it to where you're young.
21:20But I like when we showed that camera,
21:22you notice Hunter Lawrence,
21:23his mechanic was smiling out there.
21:25And he should be.
21:26His rider looked great today.
21:28It looked just like he did in Supercross.
21:30Pretty easy.
21:31Still got, you know,
21:32almost nine minutes left,
21:33plus two laps.
21:34So far, man, the 96.
21:36Strong performance.
21:39I don't know.
21:40For some reason,
21:41it's always a little undervalued,
21:43but I think everybody's just come to realize
21:44this is who Hunter Lawrence is.
21:47Indoors, outdoors,
21:48hybrid tracks,
21:50motocross the nations.
21:51It's been a long time
21:52since this guy has not been up front
21:54on any type of track.
21:56Yeah, I think you can look at that
21:59because of Jet Lawrence.
22:00I think so.
22:01You know, I mean, it's hard.
22:02You look at Hunter Lawrence,
22:04I mean, without his brother there,
22:05he's got, what, three, four championships,
22:07especially, you know,
22:09last couple of years,
22:10but it's hard to be in the shadow
22:12of your younger brother,
22:13but because he was in the shadow,
22:15man, to be out here fighting
22:17and never give up
22:18and to be supportive of your brother,
22:21keep that family relationship
22:22and continue being better yourself,
22:25this is what you're seeing.
22:27And I'll go back and say
22:28what I said earlier.
22:29No one has raised this version
22:31of Hunter Lawrence,
22:32not even Jet Lawrence.
22:34And if this is the version
22:35of Hunter Lawrence,
22:36I don't know even healthy,
22:38this guy's going to be hard
22:39to beat right now
22:40because he's only getting better.
22:42You can see it starting
22:43from Supercross to here.
22:44Yep, and it was getting much closer
22:46in pro motocross last year
22:47between them
22:48than it was the year before
22:49when Hunter was a 450 rookie.
22:51And then we saw the steps
22:52he took indoors.
22:53He just keeps improving
22:54and he's looking to go 1-1 today.
22:57I wouldn't quite say
22:58dominant fashion
22:59because Prado has been close,
23:01but he did top
23:01the qualifying sessions as well.
23:04Will, it's about as close
23:05as you can come
23:06to a perfect day.
23:07It is indeed.
23:08And rookie seasons,
23:09you just talked about it,
23:11they're very telling, right?
23:13When we look back
23:14at Jett's rookie season
23:16and it was clear,
23:17that was clear,
23:18first, fastest qualifying
23:19goes 1-1.
23:21When we look at that rookie season
23:22that you talked about
23:23and Hunter there
23:23back in 2024,
23:25he was third fastest qualifier
23:27and went 2-3 for second.
23:30And that was obviously
23:31against his brother.
23:32so really we don't have
23:33to look very far
23:34to find why Hunter Lawrence
23:38is as good as he is.
23:39We just look at the stats,
23:40but like you said,
23:41kind of his brother
23:42and his incredible performances
23:44sometimes confuse that
23:45a little bit.
23:46But it's right there
23:47and it has been since 2024
23:49when he was a rookie JT.
23:51Yes, Will,
23:52and for more on that
23:53Hunter Lawrence story,
23:54Johnny, I want to ask you
23:55about the days following
23:57that Salt Lake City round
23:58and I'm sure it was really hard
24:00to judge us
24:01for Hunter,
24:02but what went on
24:03in the first couple of weeks
24:04that we were trying
24:04to just get Hunter back to zero,
24:07back mentally back to normal
24:08before he can even start
24:09thinking about coming
24:10and winning here
24:11at Fox Raceway.
24:13Yeah, that's a good way
24:14to put it.
24:15I mean, definitely,
24:16you know, we were so close,
24:17but then Kenny was
24:19a little bit better
24:19at the end.
24:21And yeah, like it takes
24:23a while to get over that
24:24for sure.
24:24I mean, we don't sit there
24:26and dwell on it
24:26for a long time,
24:27but Hunter's pretty tough
24:29on himself.
24:30I'm a lot like that
24:31also, so, you know,
24:33I don't have to scold him
24:34and say anything to him.
24:35Just kind of that downtime,
24:3748 hours or so.
24:39And then I think he waited
24:41about three days
24:41to get on his outdoor bike,
24:43but it was pretty much
24:44already ready for him
24:45because Jed has done
24:46a lot of the work
24:46for him outdoors.
24:48great job, and this is a heck
24:50of a way to bounce back.
24:51Thank you.
24:52Thanks a lot.
24:52Yeah, I had a chance
24:53to talk to Johnny
24:55and even those guys,
24:56and what you think,
24:57I think what helped Hunter
24:58is one, his brother
24:59coming back from injury,
25:01even with Hayden coming in.
25:02There was a lot of hype,
25:03so Hunter, you know,
25:05knew he kind of had
25:06to come out here,
25:07but I think there was
25:07a lot of pressure
25:08that maybe wasn't on him
25:10because of what Jed
25:11was coming back.
25:12There was a lot of talk
25:12about him and Hunter
25:14slides underneath that radar,
25:15but even more than that,
25:17I think having that extra
25:18week off between Supercross
25:20and motocross this year,
25:21I think it eliminated
25:23to that hangover effect
25:25that we kind of say
25:26from the Supercross,
25:27and it gives him time
25:28to kind of get over
25:29what he went through,
25:30that heartbreaking Supercross,
25:31and he's back out here.
25:32But again, man,
25:34you said you didn't want
25:35to say it, but I'm going
25:36to tell you right here,
25:37this is a beat down.
25:39This is dominant.
25:40This race is,
25:41I know it's only seven seconds,
25:43but it's not even close.
25:44This guy's in a whole
25:45different league of his own
25:46right now,
25:47and if he needed to pull it
25:48out to 10, he could do it.
25:50He's on rails today.
25:52And he did go right back
25:55after Prado as soon
25:56as Prado got him
25:57in this moto.
25:58It did not take him long
25:59to pre-gain control,
26:01which maybe does show
26:02what he has under the hood
26:03if he needs it.
26:05Yeah.
26:06Yeah, absolutely.
26:07JT.
26:08James, I was just listening
26:09to you say that
26:10about the beat down,
26:11and this looks scary easy
26:13for Hunter Orange right now.
26:15I'm just watching, you know,
26:16kind of the way he's going.
26:18Like, he's riding around,
26:19and I know that sounds
26:20a little hyperbolic,
26:21but I'm just telling you,
26:22he is on full cruise control mode,
26:24and if he needed to pull it
26:26to 10 or 12 seconds right now,
26:27no problem.
26:28He could do it two laps.
26:29Yeah, no, it is.
26:30And again, if you look at his brother
26:33and even some of races,
26:34Hunter's won.
26:34I mean, it's not like he's out there,
26:37he always wants to pull out
26:38to 30 seconds.
26:39This is how they kind of win races.
26:41They kind of keep it close,
26:42but he can turn up the screws
26:44really easy,
26:45and like I said,
26:47I've seen this guy get better
26:49throughout the Supercross season
26:50to where there was races
26:51that it looked just like this,
26:53and yeah, this race isn't even close.
26:56Jorge's doing a great job,
26:57but he'll watch this
26:58and understand he's got to pick it up
26:59to attack that 96.
27:02There's the gap.
27:03Seven seconds now to Prado,
27:05the Red Bull KTM.
27:07Jet now has it down to five seconds.
27:10It's been a lot of work,
27:12and for all of it,
27:12he's made up about one,
27:14maybe one and a half seconds
27:16in the last 10, 15 minutes.
27:18So Prado's showing some strength
27:20enough to hold Jet from,
27:22you can just see him back there
27:23really getting a hook at him.
27:25Yeah, I think Jorge,
27:27the same thing kind of happened
27:27at first moto
27:28as we take a look at Hey Deegan.
27:30And, you know, it's that rabbit.
27:32Hunter Lawrence is gone,
27:33so it's hard for him and Chase.
27:35And speaking of Chase,
27:36yeah, you know, Chase Sexton,
27:38I think it'd be a win
27:39if he's able to get around Hey Deegan.
27:40But yeah, Jorge Prado,
27:42it's hard to race four,
27:43and it's easy to see Jet close in.
27:45But maybe still think Jorge
27:47is probably overall better.
27:49If he needed to,
27:50he'll hold this thing on.
27:51But at the end of the day,
27:52it's still a great ride by him,
27:53all three of these guys, actually.
27:54Yeah, Prado 2.0 here,
27:57much better in year two in America
27:59than last year.
28:00Last year was just around
28:02the top five in this race,
28:03which actually seemed fine,
28:04but it kind of went sideways
28:06from there.
28:06Back to this battle,
28:08Chase Sexton digging.
28:10And look,
28:11most of the fire from Deegan
28:14has been aimed squarely
28:15at Jet Lawrence.
28:16But I cannot imagine
28:17that any of these proud guys
28:19that have won this title before,
28:20like Chase Sexton,
28:21are fans of the brash talk
28:24from the rookies.
28:25So let's see
28:26if Sexton could dig deep here.
28:28I'm sure he would
28:29be smiling under the helmet
28:30if he could make this happen.
28:31Yeah, trust me,
28:32Chase wants to get to him.
28:33It's whether he's set up,
28:35feel comfortable in the motorcycle
28:36to push that extra little bit.
28:38But, you know,
28:39I don't think it's maybe
28:40Chase is probably upset
28:41that Deegan wasn't talking about him
28:43because he's like,
28:44man, I just won this championship.
28:45I am the guy.
28:46And it's almost like
28:47he's gotten replaced.
28:48So if he can get close to him,
28:50he's going to want to beat him
28:51for a lot of different reasons.
28:52But again,
28:53I think it's important
28:54for Chase to just mentally,
28:56if he wins this,
28:57it would be a somewhat
28:58of a silver lining in this day
29:00if he can recover after two crashes,
29:02knowing that he possibly could have been
29:04on the podium,
29:04but was able to show that speed,
29:06run down Hayden,
29:07Deegan, and, you know,
29:08finish that top five.
29:10A lot of work with that motorcycle.
29:11Chase told me yesterday
29:12a lot better than where they were
29:14even just a few weeks ago.
29:16With the outdoor testing,
29:17he made some major changes to the bike,
29:19but he kept
29:21cautioning that look.
29:21It feels good at home,
29:22but you never know
29:23until you go racing.
29:24I would say overall,
29:26a positive day speed-wise for him.
29:28In those crashes,
29:28he is not giving up,
29:30and Deegan doesn't want to let him get it.
29:32No, it isn't.
29:33And, you know,
29:34you look at his teammate,
29:35unfortunately, Garrett,
29:36that first motor,
29:36he got into it with Eli,
29:37but he's actually been riding really good.
29:39And that's when you know
29:41Kawasaki as a team
29:42has made an improvement
29:43because Garrett's not good today as well.
29:45So does Chase Sexton.
29:46And I know for Chase,
29:48this is like the worst position.
29:49If you can't get around Hayden,
29:51you're that close.
29:52You had enough time to be able to get him,
29:54and you couldn't.
29:54It's tough.
29:55You might as well just be like,
29:57I either want to pass this through,
29:58or I don't even want to be close to where
30:00it's like that carrot angle in front of you.
30:03He's a little bit quicker than Deegan.
30:05Last lap around.
30:06It looks like he's closed up a little more
30:07on this one,
30:08but running out of time.
30:10Yeah,
30:11I made a mistake going down the hill.
30:13And to me,
30:14Chase bikes little soft,
30:15looks like a little off
30:16because you can tell when he starts pushing it,
30:18you see he makes those mistakes
30:19as he's going down the hill.
30:21But when he's open,
30:22flat part of the racetrack
30:23where he can use his legs,
30:25use his body,
30:25he's able to close in on Hayden,
30:27Deegan.
30:27So hard position to be in
30:28because you have to pick up that pace
30:30to close that gap.
30:31But when you do that,
30:32it's easy to make a mistake.
30:34And Chase is trying.
30:41Two lap board is out.
30:43Clock expired for the leader,
30:45Hunter Lawrence.
30:45I wasn't sure if he was going to beat the clock or not.
30:47He did not.
30:48So it is two to go.
30:50And Sexton's still digging.
30:54I think a lot of people, James, are worried.
30:56They just,
30:57anyone who wants to see this field
30:58continue to have these contenders in it,
31:01wanted to see a good day from Chase.
31:02Is this enough to see some positive signs?
31:06Yeah, I think so.
31:07I mean, the bike does look better.
31:09I mean, you've got to build somewhere.
31:10He looks more racy to me
31:12than he did at
31:13for most of the Supercross.
31:15Usually if he went down,
31:16he would just kind of fall back in the pack.
31:18So to me,
31:19he's having that charge.
31:21I like that.
31:22I know Chase
31:23and I know he wants to win,
31:24but man,
31:26he's got to find that silver lining.
31:28You know,
31:28it's not going to sit well.
31:29Hey,
31:30do you get brought away from him?
31:31It's not going to sit well.
31:32But at the end of the day,
31:33I think him and Kawasaki
31:34got a lot to build on.
31:35And both those guys
31:36are within the top 10.
31:38Going to a place that,
31:39remember what happened
31:40a couple years ago,
31:41had one of the greatest rides ever
31:43coming from 40th to 1st.
31:45We just have some experience
31:46and some good times
31:47up in next week's race and hang down.
31:48And they keep in the game,
31:51keep improving that motorcycle.
31:52It would be great
31:52to have a summer with Sexton
31:53doing Sexton-like things.
31:56But the ante is up
31:57with the improvement
31:58of Hunter Lawrence.
32:00What Supercross hangover.
32:02What Supercross heartbreak.
32:04Right back at it.
32:07Send a hello out there
32:08to Ken Rockson,
32:08the new Supercross champ.
32:10Maybe we'll get him back
32:10later in the summer
32:11for a Pro Botocross event.
32:13But you know you'll see him back
32:14for the SMX playoffs.
32:17But Hunter Lawrence has it on lock
32:19today.
32:21And what a bounce back it is.
32:23We're not going to talk
32:24about that heartbreak.
32:25He says that it still stinks,
32:27which is understandable.
32:28But that is not going to be
32:29a storyline going forward.
32:31Yeah, it's not.
32:32And you know, honestly,
32:34I don't even know
32:34if it's a bounce back.
32:35I don't know if Hunter
32:36even believes in that
32:37because this is what I saw
32:39all Supercross.
32:40We've been witnessing it.
32:41Like this is more like
32:42Hunter Lawrence most of the year.
32:44And just his,
32:45his attitude,
32:46his mindset.
32:47I don't think he sees
32:48his bounce back.
32:49He's back on track
32:51where he's belonged.
32:52And again,
32:54it looks very easy
32:55to me watching him.
32:57Smile.
32:58You're on camera.
32:58Can't use camera.
33:01Mad dogging it.
33:02You're right.
33:03And we've seen that
33:04in the pit board
33:04a couple of times.
33:05The wins for Hunter
33:06won a bunch
33:06in Supercross.
33:09And this will be the first
33:101-1 of his 450 career.
33:12He won the overall
33:14at Ironman
33:14with a 2-2 in the past.
33:17Somehow it's only
33:17the second ever
33:18450 overall win for him.
33:20Although he's been
33:21on the podium,
33:21it feels like
33:22just about every time
33:23he's lined up
33:24in 450 motocross.
33:27Yeah, absolutely.
33:28Just going back
33:28to your point real quickly,
33:30as we talked last year
33:31and Hunter Lawrence
33:32finished in second
33:33to the brother.
33:34If I'm Hunter,
33:35when Jet was healthy,
33:36I was right there
33:37every weekend,
33:38week in and week out,
33:39almost one point
33:40from winning
33:40the X-Men's world title
33:42the last couple of years.
33:43I'm better this year.
33:45So I don't think
33:46he looks at it as like,
33:47yeah, I'm only winning
33:48because of Jet.
33:48I was close to beating him
33:50last year
33:50when he was fully healthy.
33:52I'm better
33:53and this is the results
33:54you're seeing.
33:55so Hunter Lawrence
33:57is on point today.
33:58Yep, he is going to be
33:59one to reckon with
34:00no matter how much
34:01everyone else
34:01can improve.
34:02You know they will,
34:04but they got a long way
34:05to go because he's got
34:06it up to over 10 seconds
34:07over Prado.
34:08Now Jet Lawrence
34:08not giving up,
34:09still closing Prado
34:11down to the end here.
34:13Prado's been around
34:14the block time or two.
34:15You got to figure
34:15he's got that
34:16under control though.
34:19Yeah, it was at some point
34:20Jet was closing
34:21and then Jorge picked up
34:22the pace and stretched it out,
34:23but he lost a lot of time
34:25in the last lap and a half.
34:27So I don't know
34:27if that's lapers
34:28that he made a mistake.
34:29I think he had him pretty,
34:31you know, pretty covered
34:33at that point.
34:35Hunter Lawrence,
34:36I said him Moto1,
34:37the king of the left brain
34:38thinking,
34:39very analytical,
34:40logical, unemotional
34:41about it.
34:42That paid off
34:42in the face
34:43of some heartbreak
34:44in Supercross.
34:45He just focuses
34:47on process
34:48and lets the results
34:49unfold.
34:50And today that process
34:52was perfect.
34:53Fastest in both
34:54qualifying sessions,
34:55wins Moto1,
34:56and with an even bigger
34:58lead here in Moto2,
34:59he's able to cruise it
35:00on home.
35:04Hunter Lawrence,
35:05he's the man today.
35:07A much hyped opener,
35:08not enough talk about him,
35:10but he's got all
35:10the headlines now.
35:121-1.
35:13And look at this battle.
35:15Jet Lawrence gets
35:16to the rear wheel
35:17of Jorge Prado
35:18right at the end.
35:20And Chase Sexton
35:21getting to the rear wheel
35:23of Deegan.
35:24These guys want it.
35:25They want it.
35:26You know what I like
35:27to see from Jet Lawrence?
35:28I like that aggressive
35:29tear-off pull.
35:30He was mad.
35:31That means he's
35:32feeling back more
35:33like Jet Lawrence.
35:34He don't like to lose.
35:35Good start.
35:36Already not satisfied
35:37with third.
35:37Yeah, I mean,
35:38in this case,
35:39I mean, he's struggling
35:40today, right?
35:41Yeah, yeah,
35:41by those standards.
35:43Hunter Lawrence
35:44getting it done.
35:48The Lawrence
