00:0015-second board up in
00:02for the first of two races here on Sunday
00:04MXGP race 1, the MXGP of France
00:05at La Capel, Marival, 30 minutes plus 2
00:08Hurling's in gate 1, 74 alongside
00:10him, Kai de Wolf, who's he gonna be
00:12that grabs that foxhole shot this time around?
00:17Lucas with a great jump
00:18Koonen with a good jump and
00:19Roman Favre again and ran wide there
00:22by the number 5
00:23and it was Koonen, I think, who managed to bag
00:26that foxhole shot, Biel, well
00:27recovered well actually because it didn't look like he was
00:29going anywhere in a hurry, but as everybody else
00:31backed off, Biel emerges in second
00:33position, Adama with a great start
00:35in third, Hurling's in fourth
00:38and then DeWolf just behind
00:39them in fifth, great start for Lucas
00:42Koonen, the championship leader, exactly what he needed after
00:43yesterday, that's exactly what he said he
00:45needed as well after his disappointment in the qualifying
00:48race. Yeah, he really exploded
00:49off of the grade there and you can just see it right
00:51away, as long as he got through the gears quickly he was
00:53going to be at the front. Tom Biel there second,
00:55Adamo third, there's Hurling's pushing
00:57there in fourth position in the dark
00:59colors, the rider in white behind him, Kaida
01:01Wolf in fifth, Biel looking to try
01:03and move past Adama early on here
01:05doesn't want to eat too much roost off the back of that
01:07450 KTM, as little
01:09as possible please, if you don't mind
01:11the inside of
01:15no, he wasn't
01:18certainly don't want to take anybody for granted but I think if Lucas looks back and sees Andrea
01:22Adamo second and Biel third, that would be a comforting sight
01:26the Kawasaki of Fevra, was that Renault in there as well, I think it was, yeah there's Renault and there's
01:33the number one
01:35that's Jonas actually Fevra, a couple of positions further back in ten
01:41Hurling's around the outside of his teammate at the end of that opening lap, he moves up into third position
01:48you know these guys are so adept at understanding situations so Lucas probably understands there's an opportunity here to pull
01:55a gap
01:55Jeffrey knows that Kunin understands that so he's going to try to close that gap down as quickly as possible
02:00so they're both responding to the situation in kind
02:04Kunin with about a two second advantage over Adamo but Hurling's not in the mood for hanging around as he
02:09he's got his main rival the championship leader ahead of him by two positions
02:13he's losing five points in the greater scheme of things if it stays like that so
02:16the sooner he can get by Adamo the sooner he has clear track to go after the number five red
02:21plate holder
02:22and I guess the big question here is after this Grand Prix we don't know how it's going to pan
02:25out yet
02:26of course we don't we're on the opening lap of race one will we see Lucas Kunin still in red
02:30or are we going to see a change
02:31who have the red plate
02:39Renault and Geiser, Geiser up the inside of his teammate as he moves up into possibly seventh place there eighth
02:46place maybe
02:47oh very close there between the two wow the two Yamahas there very very close they touch Geiser got
02:56caught in a scenario like that with a back marker in Argentina at the top of that step up in
03:00the qualifying race
03:00didn't need another one of those we've got wave jellos here somebody check on Alex Kowalski
03:06oh yeah that's disappointing
03:08somebody check on Alex Kowalski though because his heart rate is about 300 at the moment after that
03:12I thought they were going to make contact
03:16could not get it well they say Ruben's racing but come on guys
03:23watch this yeah Geiser looks across and already sees Renault scrubbing it while they both jump from one
03:29side of the track to the other and Geiser realized immediately that we might be in trouble here I tell
03:33you what they are very fortunate that Renault scrubbed that so well and got out in front otherwise they they
03:39go side to side contact there yeah if they were up at the same height there then that would have
03:43been a
03:43a spectacular fall down to earth so Kunin leads sets the fastest lap by about three tenths over
03:50Adamo hurling still third the out fourth the wolf fifth Renault Geiser Jonas now eight
03:56feather up to nine Fernandez 10 ahead of Oriol Oliver then we got that dunnigan 12th
04:01Petrel Bonacorsi here it's Brice Melan and then Albi Ferrato down to 18 Calvin Vallana 19 head of his
04:07teammate on the Ducati in 20th place Ben Watson in 24th position Brumman who we spoke to on the pre
04:13-grid
04:13he is in 26 but Thibaut Beniston was the rider that was down on that opening lap just the other
04:18side of
04:19the jump on the liquid molly downhill right Kunin looking across wants to see if the flags are cleared
04:24out of the way I would imagine because he had perfect view through the bottom of the valley at that
04:29point
04:31good visual awareness in that respect yeah there's nothing else to look out there for really well
04:35there's a lot of you know a lot of this track goes back and forth parallel lines so I think
04:39you can
04:39mark people try to figure out where the riders are that really bright gear that's him geyser has on
04:44he probably could recognize that was geyser yeah Beniston receiving the medical treatment there
04:52so everybody single file just as they press that liquid molly jump
04:59you know what I'm actually surprised that herlings is still there not making ground on Adamo at this
05:06moment but also first lap first race adrenaline pumping through the veins and through the roof
05:10for everybody so everybody apart from Lucas Kunin it would appear is now three seconds clear
05:15he's running a similar pace he has to be careful he doesn't do what he did like his brother in
05:19race one
05:19without giving anything away yeah have to imagine that hurlings would agree with your sentiment that
05:24he hasn't been able to close it down on andrea which tells me that andrea's riding really well
05:28because he was closing in on his teammate as well didn't fall too prettily but all of a sudden
05:35he loses positions he's at a ninth place
05:42has to rejoin got no choice head down go again
05:48just misses the run with the front wheel there strange crash
05:51yeah so roman pepper then picks himself back up in 11th position
06:03the only good news there is that he's still got 24 minutes plus two laps in which to
06:09kind of get himself back on track said in his pre good interview that he was happy with his riding
06:13and
06:13his speed crucially in the qualifying race yesterday he's gonna have to dig deep to rely on that again
06:18in race one when it matters yeah i mean it wasn't wasn't great there was no real upside to it
06:22but
06:22again it was probably a six second mistake you know i've seen worse uh the big thing here now you're
06:28just damage control can you get back well inside the top 10 and uh can you manage a sixth or
06:33seventh in
06:33this race so roman fairfront who was steady away yesterday started outside of the top 10 eventually got
06:42back to fifth in a 20 minute plus two lap race here he is with a an extra 10 minutes
06:48in which to try and
06:49flex his muscles first rider in his line of sight is the 83 of oriel oliver on the gabriel ss24
06:57ktm
07:00spaniard it's uh open a few eyebrows i think in his rookie season and mxgp this year yeah he's had
07:04some
07:05great rides um not only just overall speed but staying power too like he's he's hung in there at
07:10times they've got a ninth overall last time out in trentino with an eighth and a tenth so decent way
07:19to finish of course he led his home grand prix in race two didn't he in spain yeah that was
07:23incredible
07:23which was massive for him but lucas kuda 2.6 second clear of andrea adamo this battle here though between
07:31top vial and kyda wolf i wonder if vial made any suspension changes or if he just thought it was
07:35because he caught the edge of that road at the top which is what forced everything to go sort of
07:39south
07:40yeah you know you never know with riding styles and body differences and all that but um jeffrey's
07:46bike was so dialed in yesterday so i would bet that but they compare notes anyway maybe find some some
07:52similarities yeah herlings was ahead of the curve on setup yesterday and that's a good thing about a
07:56qualifying race in many respects you get 25 minutes to go at race pace race level race situation
08:03you know so that's the way that the bike is going to behave isn't it um when you are in
08:09this situation
08:10on a sunday well and it's really tricky not only is you know jeffrey's on a new team new bike
08:15new
08:15staff new everything it's also a racetrack they haven't raced on in five years down vial tips over
08:20from fourth position yeah it's uh just been that kind of weekend so far for tom everything is going
08:28well seems to be going to plan then all of a sudden big mistake
08:34so lucas coonan your new lead i'm sorry leads then from hurlings who's now up in the second he has
08:39found
08:39his way past andreo damo but the gap now 3.7 seconds even though herlings set the fastest lap of
08:44the race
08:44that time around by a full second 138.495 139 473 for coonan that's the gap between first and second
08:52and normally hurlings will take a sneaky look across just to see exactly where his uh main rival is
08:59doesn't need to do that too much because you've got him right in his line of sight but adamo now
09:02dropping down to third fial meanwhile picked himself up in seventh position that was a nice line by jeffrey
09:10there wow he's done such a great job all weekend you know i think the motorcycle working so well is
09:16allowing this but he is putting the racetrack together in ways that other riders simply aren't
09:21as well so i would say experience and the motorcycle are both kind of coming together
09:28much wonder where herlings found his way past adamo
09:36we have a brief glimpse of it coming up but this was on lap four we're on lap five
09:45so uh this is where he did it city jump so coming out of seven into eight power down earlier
09:54adamo tried
09:54to close him down but hurlings was already alongside and obviously uh had the inside line as well commanded
10:00that inside line so that was hurlings moving into second five laps complete coonan has extended his
10:07lead to nearly five seconds now 4.9 on the red bull ktm over the honda hrc machine here number
10:1384
10:13jeffrey hurlings 138.7 for coonan 139.9 for hurlings so losing time over the course of that lap
10:22adamo third two seconds further back wonder uh if lucas put in a hot lap there just to try to
10:28send a
10:28message to jeffrey as he got into second you know there's so there's such a mental battle that goes
10:33on lucas lucas would have seen jeffrey get him to second and then try to respond both of them are
10:38trying to like immediately respond if jeffrey could close the gap down he builds momentum that direction
10:43standing up through those ruts and uh those turns that oh i'll tell you what he caught that wrong
10:48didn't he that is not a good idea because you've got the roots there he it's almost like he tried
10:53to
10:53double that last where you've got the start of the downside but he almost jumped into it and it
11:00gained speed yeah i think he maybe thought he was on the wrong wedge or the different like one wedge
11:04earlier uh that is not something i think he was trying to do on purpose very very lucky to get
11:09away
11:09with that on that downhill the number five there of lucas coonan because that could have gone
11:14disastrously wrong because you've got deep ruts and you land from that height watch this here
11:19watch this here it comes in and catches that and all of a sudden he's thinking right you landed a
11:25wrong rut there and then you're kind of bottom it out your foot peg grabs those dirt ruts and you
11:30are
11:31pulled over the bar that was not intentional i i would bet my bottom dollar that was not intentional
11:35body language even suggested as well once you take it off it's like whoa yeah
11:42right we're getting ready to go to pit lane
11:50so lucas coulda leads it let's hear where we're going
11:57i just have a little mini report from the red ball ktm factory team about andrea damo he got off
12:03to a
12:03decent start he was in second he just lost that p2 and i just asked the team how's he feeling
12:08what's
12:08his expectations coming into the weekend in time practice yesterday andrea crashed so in terms of
12:13the qualifying race he really wasn't expecting much and wasn't really feeling wasn't really feeling it
12:19now he's feeling really comfortable but he's describing the track as three tracks in one
12:24he says there's deep ruts in some places it's hard and slick in others it's very soft in other places
12:30and the challenge andrea said is that you have to navigate those changes within the track and it's
12:35always changing it's very unpredictable out there but i asked the team in terms of their
12:39that for their prep in the five weeks off they didn't do any prep with andrea they didn't do
12:44any changes with the bike he's feeling really confident this year in his debut season in mxgp
12:49he's feeling confident now he's liking the track conditions so let's see where he ends up at the end of
12:54the day we were just looking there as well just as that interview was uh taking place there with that
13:03pit lane report with lisa where lucas coulda got it wrong a lap ago this time around he got it
13:08perfect so
13:08we're just trying to cue up the replay there from just uh what 30 seconds ago something like that
13:14and uh we've got guys moving into fifth first of all though finding his way past maxim renault his
13:19teammate at most red is yamaha here's how he made that pass infield turn turn 10
13:27using all of the track gets down the inside renault knew he was there and knew that he was on
13:33the
13:33hiding to nothing great pass that from the 243 as he moves into fifth place yeah those two
13:37those two need to be separated uh they've been far too close to each other this race
13:41this is a great ride from adamo though truly like he is really showing us something here in de wolf
13:47kind of knew he would be in the fight from yesterday but uh kudos to andrea i think the second
13:52half of
13:52the race is still something that needs to be proven out by him yeah but uh yeah debut season i
13:58love the
13:59rider behind him both of them i mean to be three four in this class with this depth is a
14:05pretty strong
14:05statement absolutely it is and uh guy said what just 1.7 seconds further behind it was a little bit
14:11quicker than them last time around but roma febvre meanwhile has moved himself up a couple of positions
14:18he's now into ninth place about three tenths behind ruben fernandez so febvre on the charge on the prowl
14:26kaida wolf continuing to go after andrea adamo obviously these two know each other very well from mx2
14:33both winning mx2 world titles as well looked like he was in neutral there at the top of the hill
14:38there
14:38when he came to land or maybe just caught a hole kind of wolf but look at guys are closing
14:43in rapidly
14:44it was a strange way to end the qualifying race yesterday for tim geisel wasn't it because he was
14:48there circulating in what fourth place and in the last two laps his pace just seemed to die off as
14:52febvre and renault renault febvre started to uh increase their speed in the latter stages both found
14:57their way by so i don't know if that sort of fading pace coupled with a mistake we never saw
15:03it
15:03resulted in him losing two positions in the like in the final two laps but certainly looks like
15:08he's more intentional this time around yeah and uh i haven't really seen an issue with the pace so far
15:13but the first time positioning we talked about is going to be so critically important it's really
15:17been the story of his weekend so far
15:21so just under 15 minutes plus two laps to go then geyser here in fifth place third rider in
15:29shot is what in 13 seconds off the lead but you see how close he is to kai de wolf
15:33behind geyser you've
15:35got maxim renault about two and a half seconds further back then we've got renault vial uh fernandez
15:39febvre and jonah so fernandez doing a great job of keeping roma febvre behind him just here as you can
15:47see but febvre looking to find his way underneath the honda rider that inside line was working a treat
15:55yesterday coming out of turn two line of stern through turn three the bottom of the hill but see
16:00how febvre quickly gets out of that hard edgy rub on the inside just to drift across to try and
16:06open up
16:06the track a little bit more jackie bim on the 1986 250 cc world champion on the inside there
16:11with the cans on in the honda shirt keeping an eye on tom vial of course reuben fernandez
16:18do you see that do you see the pit lane message to kai de wolf there there's a lot of
16:23information
16:23there caution sign like a traffic caution sign yeah don't wait tim geyser's coming and also the gap to
16:30tim geyser it's like a novel so this yeah the wolf trying to find his way past geyser there wasn't
16:43he
16:45or geyser just passed him and then that was that
16:51right finally febvre does find his way down the inside of reuben fernandez
16:55he's got his way down the inside of reuben fernandez moves up into eighth place
17:01a lot of effort for eighth yeah yeah i mean the fall of course didn't help his chances here but
17:08what we thought would be the story is the start is so pivotal on this race track not helped of
17:14course
17:14by a simple fall yeah when he fell from ninth down to 11th he's now got himself back up to
17:18eighth and
17:19when he did fall that was on lap three so here we are six laps later let's say you know
17:24a lot of work
17:24just to sort of make one position further up the way you were meanwhile de wolf under attack from the
17:30959 of maxim renault these two fighting over fear renault was there briefly certainly cleared the
17:39entry at the end of the sector ahead of the dutchman and he's going to force his way down the
17:43inside of
17:43the husband rider here but the 74 has the power and the line down the next straight into that left
17:52but has he just made another mistake coming out of there though that's going to cost him
17:56not quite but he is on the defense here on the defensive i should say
18:03these two fights in over six players i'll tell you what a lot of squeaky breaks fifth place they're
18:08fighting for
18:11guys sir finds his way past the darmo moves into third
18:17yeah that's a good ride from guys are here he needed this
18:22been methodical hasn't it
18:26hasn't sort of uh who's it yeah it was uh gian perez that we spoke to
18:32over the course of the weekend said uh he learned his lesson yesterday from sort of uh pushing too hard
18:36trying to get people tip guy says sort of that is almost uh a little bit evident there isn't it
18:44you
18:44know if you ride over the limit you're going to get punished so he's just been methodical in that
18:48respect to get himself up to third at the moment maxim renault almost knack-knack in his way back
18:53onto the racetrack there as he just ran a little bit wide back and came around on him wasn't able
18:58to
18:58find his way past dwarf for that fifth position and he's not going to give up and it's not going
19:04to be for
19:04lack of trying either yeah both of these guys are pushing really hard saw kai make a big mistake
19:08coming down that hill not an easy racetrack when you show up and you see how tight and compact it
19:15is
19:15you know you kind of think you know it looks like quite an easy track but the way that it
19:20churns out
19:20and goes down to rock and the way they rip it and the technical element of this racetrack is uh
19:26on
19:26another level yeah a lot more difficult than it would look on the surface level that's for sure and at
19:31speed these guys are going as well you know that holds a whole new dimension doesn't it in time
19:36practice fastest time was 134.3 that was kyda wolf on saturday 138.4 the fastest lap so far
19:45for lucas kunan for jeffrey hurling sorry so uh four seconds slower than it was yesterday afternoon
19:56lucas kunan looking good though at the moment yeah continues to lead yeah stretch the lead out seven
20:02seconds how much of this is jeffrey hurling just riding a smart race here thinking you know i found
20:09my limit and if i go beyond that yes i could probably do that for sort of 10 minutes and
20:13find
20:13my way onto the rear wheel but risk versus reward at round six well i i you know that that
20:19one lap where
20:20lucas pulled the lead back out put in a 138 kind of answered jeffrey's lap that was important because
20:25that allows this i think you send a message to jeffrey hey you're not going to close the gap down
20:29on me jeffrey will in kind back it down a little bit not take extra chance take another look at
20:34the
20:35start then a slow reaction there for hurling sky walk kind of wolf was a little bit quicker out of
20:38there but hurling's did recover well and out dragged the wolf going into the first turn but it was lucas
20:43kunan who pushed februa wide that's why he ended up right the way back there viala merchant second
20:48but it was uh kunan with the foxhole shot guy said getting squeezed here by his old team mate
20:56tried to muscle him out of the way and did do
21:01but februa too far wide he was almost in fijiak he was so far wide and that's about 20 minutes
21:08from
21:08here yeah got his credential checked when he re-entered the racetrack yeah you have your pass
21:14no he's in the truck but this has been fantastic five racemen so far this season for lucas kunan
21:23they're coming into this weekend he left 95 laps on a sunday as well
21:27add another 11 to that he's on lap 12 now so he's been the dominant force in that respect over
21:32the
21:32course of the season
21:36the bullet though no reply no and there was a time in jeffrey's career where seven seconds with eight
21:44minutes to go you were waiting for the charge to be put in i don't know that it's going to
21:47come
21:48here at this racetrack it's too much risk so you can't override this racetrack the way jeffrey would do
21:54in his younger days so hate to say that the race is already shaped the way we're going to see
22:00it end
22:01but i would not i would be very surprised to see things change this is in turn 12 a moment
22:06ago
22:07and that's it you know even if you're not pushing as hard as you want to be those little mistakes
22:13can
22:13still creep in just like that it's just you know an inch or two offline has a reaction at the
22:20rear end
22:21whether you get perfect drive or it steps out of line one way or the other and he was just
22:25on the
22:25receiving end of one of those right there he wouldn't have felt it so much but he knew that
22:29it wouldn't have been clean exactly yeah there's so many racetracks you go to you know ones with just
22:35excess traction over a track like womble you can kind of turn the intensity up to 11 out of 10
22:40when you
22:41sense the other riders are are a little fatigued and closed and jeffrey is the master of that
22:46i don't think that's this type of racetrack smoother is faster and uh honestly i have a lot of respect
22:55for the way jeffrey's gone about this weekend so far he has not he's not forced the issue one time
22:59take the points when he can hi the qualifying race yesterday just to get the gap back down
23:03settle if you need to in this situation so what is it going to be five points as it stands
23:07right now so
23:08he's only lost a point over the course of the weekend in the greater scheme of things as it stands
23:11right now this battle here um for fourth place adamo andrea adamo rebel ktm and then the start
23:18husband of kaida wolf looks like it's going to go right the way down to the flag adamo doing a
23:23great
23:23job there kevin baby just getting uh yeah baby take it out of the way
23:29and maxi minot right on the rear wheel of these two as well so the french
23:33going to be cheering their home rider the lead french rider at the moment because fevre
23:38is in eighth behind vial three of them all together six seven and eight although not
23:43exactly together on track
23:48see kai just trying to get out of the roost you know that that line was not ideal but he
23:52is desperate to get out of adamo's rear tire
23:56see him cutting under swerving back the other way yeah and then you've got maxi minot in there just
24:02waiting for a mistake just to pick the pocket of kaida wolf if he gets the opportunity
24:10ah he messes up there as well on the entry to the turn maximum cost him a little bit of
24:13time
24:14got cross-rutted going in wanted to be inside but then the front was in the back was in the
24:19middle
24:19rut back markers now starting to play their part
24:28can he find his way down the inside the last of the late breakers kaida wolf adamo out muscles him
24:34at
24:34the moment
24:37roman pat there 64 getting lapped again trying to stay out of the way finds uh well maxi minot finds
24:44his way past his fellow countrymen but it's cost him a couple of bite lengths to these two
24:48so all that hard work coming undone for now five and a half minutes plus two to go in this
24:53first mxgp
24:54race here in france oh a nice line there improvisation on the line as well it looked like
25:01he got out of the inside into the middle and took the line away from adamo and dwarf now up
25:05in the
25:05fourth place oh it's funny i was literally thinking andrea andrea just need to protect the inside here
25:09and then he went outside and immediately paid the price for it
25:15yeah and he's going to be spitting feathers i wonder if maximum was close enough to see that
25:19and if he hasn't found a way right next time around if he uses that line as well well i
25:23have
25:23no idea what spitting feathers means you'll be fuming okay all right
25:31yeah look at that the line was already there yeah established yeah i'm actually really surprised
25:36andrea went out there um that immediate look back it's not a great sign though you know it kind of
25:41tells
25:41you where his head space is when he looks over his over his shoulder immediately he's under pressure
25:46from uh a renault now is adamo just here they were just dropping into that turn two a moment ago
25:53when we were picture in picture see already how much clearance kind of office put between himself and
26:01adamo it's maximino now looking to try and find his way past
26:08you see how the riders now you know they're standing up okay we're seeing a lot more riders
26:13standing up even through rutted turns aren't we it seems to be like a new thing over the last couple
26:17three years or so but you know those downhills long sweeping ruts turn four turn five at the top of
26:21the
26:21hill as you go into those waves where kuna made that mistake you know you get it right and you're
26:26on
26:26the pegs and just let the bike roll through them and he goes down maximino chucks it away
26:34trying to get himself back into the race doesn't lose a position but he will re-emerge in that sixth
26:40place but now the other fevere right there and he will be like a red rag to a bull to
26:46those two
26:46because all of a sudden guess what we have them all together renault is now going to be looking over
26:52his shoulder because he's going to be a big french flag target on the back of his race jersey yeah
26:56it's so tough because you you're trying to you know manage your heart rate trying to calm down
27:00trying to not be so angry with yourself for crashing there but then you have pressure immediately behind
27:05you too so you have to regroup immediately as quickly as possible and 30 odd degrees outside you
27:10know you've just laid it over you're in your flow you stop just for a moment you feel that heat
27:14from
27:14the you know toes right up to your head underneath that helmet all the riding gear on body armor with
27:19like
27:19three minutes to go plus two laps the latter stages of the race it's uh well you know what it's
27:24like
27:24when you finish a race in these kind of conditions you can't wait to get back to the truck as
27:28soon as
27:29you stop you feel that heat that's what it's like when a rider just makes a simple error like that
27:33down
27:33losing six seven seconds maybe ten you know you're not in the mood for rejoining the race but you have
27:41to
27:41yeah so we got two and a half minutes plus two to go three french friends that three french riders
27:48line
27:48of stern six seven eight ronovia alfebvre
27:53all of them would prefer to be fighting for first second and third and the fans that are here this
27:59weekend at la capelle marivel as that back end steps out and roma fevers kawasaki once twice
28:07the fial saw that he would say hey man you might not want to do that yeah doesn't go well
28:12both feet
28:14off there was that for uh vial coming out of that left see how deep that inside right is as
28:18well i've
28:19seen you doing some of your track walks at the end of the night you know when you're up to
28:22your
28:22shoulders not saying the shortest guy in the world but you know that's just ai is it ai generated
28:34the alan the pressure
28:37from roma fevra again fevra actually you know what since he made that mistakes he hasn't been flustered
28:44has he in terms of he hasn't panicked into wanting to race too hard to the front he knew he
28:51could play
28:51the long game because there was still 29 minutes or thereabouts on the clock when he fell from night to
28:5711th he's got himself back here to eight could find his way back to sixth you know if uh he
29:03can find
29:03his way past tom vial here and he does find his way past tom vial moves into seventh for now
29:11it's probably a really frustrating experience think about the start he had
29:15almost a whole shot gets pushed out in the first corner which leads to him being seventh or eighth makes
29:20he has a fall he has to fight back from that and the pace has been really respectable but the
29:25results
29:26aren't going to show it just cleaner through turn 14 gets a little bit more distant half a bike length
29:32and uh vial wasn't expecting that and actually the body language down the next hundred meters down past
29:36pit lane vial just sort of sat up didn't he and it just looked like okay i'm not done done
29:41but i'm done
29:42you know just you go i've dealt with this pressure and whatever else still got fernandez nine seconds
29:50behind him so he has got breathing room but just sense that in terms of wanting to push tom vial
29:56not
29:57ready to do that now with three laps to go yeah the sitting up part of the body language is
30:02really telling
30:06fantastic right for this guy though yeah kind of felt this coming he was really frustrated after
30:11yesterday he could just sense it in his interview and uh spoke with david de carly team manager there
30:17and uh they said they made a couple of suspension changes they weren't as prepared for the bumps being
30:22so hard and how the bike would respond to those so we talked about it yesterday during the qualifying
30:26race his bike just didn't look necessarily perfect much better today we were talking uh 10 days
30:33ago on our mxgp podcast uh which you can see where you get your usual podcasts or here if you
30:38like
30:40jeffrey hurlings over the last four weeks has been riding every weekend since we left trentino
30:47has written a couple of times in england in holland is written in france and and raced those events not
30:53everybody has done that had that kind of schedule lucas couldn't certainly wasn't one of those so on one
30:57hand you kind of go hurlings comes in here not rusty head in the racing game and all of a
31:05sudden we see
31:06lucas kunan just cruising at the moment in this second race so did you need to be racing five weeks
31:13in a row do you need to be a little bit fresher or is it just youth or is it
31:17smart riding from hurlings
31:18just sitting there going there's no point attacking now because he's already too far ahead of me there's
31:22so many scenarios you can look at but in the end it doesn't matter whether you rode five races or
31:26not
31:26does it but i think that's just hurlings his way of training these days yeah i think it's just
31:30what's your approach um you know for lucas he they basically decided as a family they didn't want
31:35to race during the off break because we're going to have 14 out of 18 weekends of racing although we
31:40will ride a couple of races yeah in the us as well yeah so we will still have 15 races
31:44like 17 out of 18
31:46yeah but um yeah i think with that schedule in mind they they take the break when they can but
31:51jeffrey's jeffrey's unique jeffrey will race midweek the race on the weekend um so yeah there's
31:57i don't think there's a right or wrong way to do it it's just what works for your program
32:02as you come in on that uh pathway just there we saw a moment ago walking into the paddock entrance
32:07you've got the wall of champions there haven't you i don't know if you've seen it yeah so you used
32:10to
32:10have like a famous uh international race here at la capelle marival and anybody that won that
32:16international that went on to win a world champion is on there jeffrey hurling is on there uh neil
32:19hudson is on there british world champion joe robert joe robert um christoph borsell you know
32:25there's a sidecar world champion on there as well you know harry evitz stefan evitz is on there
32:30and it's you know they've been all painted on by hand you know it's almost like you'd be in argentina
32:34or somewhere like that you know where the fans have just painted it on there uh has a unique
32:39sense of history this place yeah yeah stuff like that's really cool it makes it such a unique venue
32:44um in a world of cookie cutter racers that we sometimes go to this one's uh this one's
32:49definitely unique yeah panzer being lapped here he's in 19th
32:55and uh he was one of the riders that fell with thibaut benestone we didn't see it but
32:59that was the information that we got at the time so obviously he picked himself up after the what was
33:04the carnage on the opening lap just coming down the hill in the opposite direction good to see panzer
33:08up at least and able to rejoin the race and back in the points thibaut benestone not so fortunate no
33:15news on his uh condition having fallen down into this corner at the start of the race but hopefully
33:20he's okay nothing too serious more than a portion than anything else but uh yeah get well soon uh
33:26thoughts are with thibaut tell you what when you think about we're talking about the heat at this race uh
33:32all of these guys at the front the top three really have been able to save energy this entire race
33:37and
33:37sure would jeffrey like to win yes this is what we had from benestone then on the uh okay so
33:42he was
33:43already at the bottom of the hill there that was panzer so we already saw the aftermath but just looks
33:48like he was uh maybe bang the head there a little bit because it doesn't really yeah like to say
33:56hopefully it's okay thibaut benestone anyway we are into the final lap and these two maximum and
34:04roman fevra fighting over sixth place we've said a couple of that to go if he can find his way
34:08past
34:08tom viel could possibly find his way into sixth if he could find his way past both those guys ahead
34:14of him he's done one there's the other one there but we know how fiery maxime renault can be as
34:20well
34:20there's no way he's going to let roman fevra bite even if it means both of them parked in a
34:24a heap of scrap metal in the very next corner
34:32but they will go back to the drawing board how far off the lead are they yet 40 seconds
34:36that's how convincing lucas coonan has been at the head of the field he's nine and a
34:39half clear of hurlings geyser another nine further back so 18 and a half between the first three
34:44but tim geyser got his way to third and by then hurlings was too far up the track so too
34:50was coonan so
34:51let's see if he can come back in race two and do a trentino get a good start and come
34:56away with a
34:57victory anyway out of the final turn lucas coonan red bull ktm factory racing takes the checkered flag
35:05wins race one here cool as you like and uh barely looks like he's broken a sweat as well we'll
35:12soon
35:12find out when he takes his helmet off but jeffrey herlings will cross the line in second tim geyser will
35:16be
35:17third ktm honda yamaha and husvana with kyda wolf four manufacturers in the top four positions
35:28decent ride for kyda wolf great respect between lucas coonan and jeffrey hurlings
35:35hurlings will be hoping to reverse those positions in race one but the way it race two the way that
35:41lucas coonan rode in that first race very much reminiscent of what we saw in spain where you
35:47uh just know you almost feel the outcome is going to be a one one here for him could be
35:53start start is
35:54going to be critical if you lucas start seventh or eighth or worse i don't know that it's possible
36:05so get the uh top ten over the line there coonan hurlings guy set to wolf adamo maximum 06 did
36:11hang on
36:11in the end roma fever just backing it off with a few corners to go that gap two and a
36:15half seconds
36:15vial nine eight ruben fernandez nine bonacorsi the lead red bull ducati over his teammate calvin
36:22villano who was 11. we wait for orio oliver to come through on the gabriel ss 24 ktm and it's
36:28jonas
36:29who finds his way past on the final lap and literally not too far from home as well because
36:35it was less than a second between the latvian and the spaniard vandonek was next
