00:00Heavy rains triggered dangerous mudslides in California. The video's just a mess. Swamping
00:05roads, burying homes, sweeping away cars in the debris. We're going to take you there.
00:10And chaos in a Florida courtroom. Video shows the moment a shackled inmate suddenly lunges at a
00:17judge during a hearing. Sarah is out today. I'm Kate Baldwin with John Berman. This is CNN News
00:23Central. President Trump is cheering on ABC's decision to definitely pull the plug on Jimmy
00:29Kimmel. He is calling for other late night hosts to face the same now. Here is what he said when
00:33he
00:33was asked about Kimmel on Air Force One. Kimmel was actually not fired in all of this. And as John
00:40mentioned earlier, no decision's been made on how to move forward. A source does tell CNN that Disney
00:45is hopeful that there is a path to bring Kimmel back. Though FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is also now
00:50saying that Kimmel's suspension is, quote, not the last shoe to drop. CNN's Betsy Klein is joining us
00:55now from the White House. And President Trump also took it further, warning that other networks
01:00should lose their licenses for simply criticizing him. That's right. That's a threat that he has
01:07been made from the White House for us. Big changes are coming for vaccine guidance,
01:12to vaccine guidance for children. The group of advisors handpicked by HHS Secretary Robert Kennedy
01:17Jr. They're back at it for a second day today. On today's agenda, the hepatitis B vaccine and the
01:23COVID shot. So stand by for big news. And new surveillance video captured the moments a panicked
01:27father speeds to the hospital with his wife in the car in labor with no time to spare, helping to
01:33deliver the baby girl in the back of their SUV. And overnight, a political party in Japan
01:39appointed an AI chatbot to be its leader. We're going to speak to the authors of a new book,
01:43Warning of the Dangers of Superhuman AI. The title, If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies.
01:50Breaking overnight, there is a massive cleanup effort that's really getting underway now in
01:54Southern California after severe mudslides were triggered by heavy rains in the area. I mean,
01:58homes were just buried in mud. So many roads forced to be closed in just a total mess.
02:04Communities just wrecked from this. Some of the video coming out is wild, rushing, muddy water with
02:10people trapped inside their cars. I mean, look at that what people were up against. Some homes in San
02:16Bernardino County were crushed from the mud and the debris. This aerial footage we're going to show
02:21you is gives a sense of just the scale of the damage of it all. How did it start? What
02:29happened
02:30and what happens now? Yes, I think the key takeaway is exactly what that gentleman said. It was the rate
02:36at which the rain came in. It came down so fast. Allison, thank you so much for that update.
02:41Appreciate it. So maybe some big changes coming to how you get tickets for concerts and other events.
02:49The FTC suing Live Nation and Ticketmaster over what it is calling illegal ticket resale practices
02:54and a $100,000 car being crushed into a useless cube. Why police did it and why they said they
03:03would do it
03:05again? Once again, President Trump is applauding ABC's decision, as we have seen, to pull Jimmy Kimmel
03:11from the air. He's also saying very clearly that he thinks networks should lose their broadcasting
03:17licenses simply for criticizing him. Listen to this. Let's be honest. It's very nice to have you here.
03:22Thanks for being here. Exactly. Brendan Carr, you hear that from the president, but Brendan Carr also
03:28said yesterday that the ABC move is not the last shoe to drop. Yeah. It's very hard to revoke and
03:36pull
03:36a broadcasting license. Yeah. At least it was in the past. It was. Where do you think this goes now?
03:41Oh, my God. Well, news. You heard President Trump say that networks should lose their licenses
03:50for criticizing him. Yeah. And you mentioned Charlie Kirk because interestingly enough, Charlie Kirk
03:56said had something to say about this very issue in the past. And we looked, I looked back. He was
04:02on social
04:03media reacting to when South Park made fun of him. Yeah. Lampooned him in an episode. He said this.
04:10We need to have a good. That is a true statement and should be for anyone in public life. Yeah.
04:19But
04:19then you hold that up against the threat. This new threat. Just wonder what it leads to. Yeah.
04:25Well, today that if if they're going to run up against the law. Yeah. And the constitution,
04:31what they are could be trying to do, though, is lead to self-censorship. Yes. Do you see that
04:36happening? Oh, yeah. No, that's. Oh, you're also the executive producer of a documentary that kind
04:41of outrage culture and cancel culture can have on comedy. The documentary is called Can We Take a
04:47Joke? It came out almost 10 years. Happened. Just the ABC News Disney example of what you've seen
04:52from your perspective. Who do you think delivered a bigger blow to free speech and expression? The
04:57threats level or the actions by Disney and ABC as a network and bending to those threats? I would say
05:05this is breaking overnight. Officials in Washington state, they have found human remains that they
05:10believe are of Travis Decker. Now, he is the man who's accused of killing his three little daughters.
05:17Decker has been the focus of a months long manhunt after the children were reported missing by their
05:22mother. This was that they were reported missing at the end of May. The girls bodies were discovered
05:26three days later near a campground. They were just five, eight and nine years old. Officials believe
05:33that Decker suffocated them and then fled on foot. The remains that they found now were in a remote
05:39wooded area nearby and authorities are now doing DNA testing to confirm the identity. A wild scene in a
05:47Florida courtroom during what was supposed to be a routine hearing. An inmate suddenly lunges. The
05:52judge was not hurt. The inmate now faces felony battery charges. There's some dramatic video from a
05:57hospital in Dallas showing the moment a man pulls up to the front of a hospital versus even the hospital's
06:02president rushed out to help as this all was playing out. Moments later, the doctors were
06:07handing this mother, her newborn baby girl, and they were taken inside. Thank God. And we wish them
06:13well. New video also in this morning of police say is that a jerk that is a Dodge Durango Hellcat
06:20is
06:20apparently worth $100,000 or was worth $100,000. It got absolutely crazy. Authorities in Louisville,
06:28Kentucky say it was used in illegal street racing and they confiscated it as at a hot rod show and
06:35found it was full of stolen parts, including the engine. The police warning this. We will seize your
06:40car and if it's not legal for the streets, we will crush it. John? That's why I always just use
06:47an old
06:47like, you know, VW rabbit, you know, in all, all the elite street racing that I do because I don't
06:52want to see. I mean, you are capable of so many things. Street racing, I just feel is not a
06:56John
06:56Berman. You don't want to see the car crushed like that to be sure. No, you set the cruise control
07:01for
07:01three minutes over three miles over the speed limit. That's as fast as I'm willing to go. Sure,
07:05Jamie. Thank you very much. All right. You want late night rally around free speech with a dash of humor,
07:10if you will. Comedians and fans of Jimmy Kimmel rallying around the host after he was pulled
07:14off the airwaves at ABC and heavy rainfall, sparking devastating mudslides in Southern
07:20California, mud, debris, cutting off roads, bringing down power lines, covering homes.
07:27Got more on that. And James Bond, Ethan Hunt or Jason Bourne have your pick. British intelligence,
07:33the British intelligence agency, MI6 needs foreign spies and the recruiting, but this time on the dark
07:38web. I'm Kate Baldwin with John Berman. Sarah is out. This is CNN News Central.
07:43See, we don't have the budget. Thank you for your program. It's great to be here.
07:50Thank you, Paul. I'm going down. Now look, I'm doing improv.
07:53I'm getting sure to this now. Other real news. Heavy drains triggering this morning. Charlie
07:59Kirk's murder is sparking a flood of baseless conspiracy theories. Baseless, though, still
08:05spreading like wildfire online. Theories from those on the left and the right. The end result,
08:12likely to further divide the nation if it continues. CNN's Marshall Cohen is tracking this one for us.
08:17Marshall, what are you seeing on this front?
08:20Okay, we are seeing some runked and some of them are just flat out crazy.
08:23But as one disinformation expert told me, they don't need...
08:27It's like a horrendous self-fulfilling prophecy and the internet at its absolute worst.
08:31Marshall, thank you, though, for calling it out, tracking it,
08:33and shining a light on this is what you need to do. Thank you very much.
08:38Straight ahead for us. A months-long manhunt in Washington state may now be over. The latest on
08:43the search for a man accused of killing his three young daughters. And new video also in this morning
08:51of a massive drug bust in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. When you see this, you will also want
08:56to see
08:56and hear how much DHS says was seeking. Breaking overnight, officials in Washington state have
09:01discovered human remains that they believe belong to Travis Decker. He is the man accused of killing
09:07his three young daughters. And also, he has been on the focus of a months-long manhunt. The children
09:14were reported missing by their mother back in May. And then three days later, police found their little
09:19bodies near a campground. Officials now say that Decker, they believe, suffocated them and then fled on foot.
09:25The remains were found in a nearby wooded area, but in a remote kind of area. And authorities are now
09:32conducting DNA testing to confirm the identity. John. This morning, we are waiting to hear from
09:37and possibly see Jimmy Kimmel and also see what his next move is as the fallout grows from ABC's
09:44sudden move to pull him and pull his show off the air. The controversy and the fallout shining a light
09:51on some key data that is catching Harry Enten's eye this morning. And he's here with me now.
09:55What are you seeing, Harry? Yeah, there are rare points in which I see a piece of data and it
10:00just
10:00sort of jumps off the screen at me. And this is one of them because I really just think it
10:04tells
10:04the entire Jimmy Kimmel off the air. If there's government influence there, they're absolutely
10:10enjoying it. But punished by whom, I guess, is the question. How are Republicans and how much
10:16Republicans, as you're pointing out here, likely to or what are they going to think about that this
10:21decision was made with government influence? Yes, exactly right. So, you know, it's one thing
10:24if the idea is, OK, Jimmy Kimmel is being punished by his own company, right, being punished by ABC,
10:29being punished by Disney. But the idea that the government is influencing it, I don't think
10:33that Republicans are going to have much of a nearly 90 percent when, of course, you're not just rounding
10:38as if you would, you'd be at 90 percent. But we're talking about 89 percent of the public,
10:43of Republicans, excuse me, who say that the U.S. media is influenced by government interests.
10:47So, no, Republicans, A, they like the idea that Jimmy Kimmel is being punished. And B,
10:53they're not at all going to be against the idea that the government might be influencing it because
10:57they already think, two-thirds already think that the government is influencing U.S. media
11:02organizations a great deal in this country. I mean, or just turn off the channel.
11:06They could do that. There is a big question about what Jimmy Kimmel's next move is. There's
11:13reporting from within, you know, sources saying that ABC is trying to find a way potentially to
11:18bring him back on air. What's the conventional wisdom around this? Yeah, what's the conventional
11:22wisdom? You know, I'll go to the prediction markets here. We have it as a coin flip that Kimmel
11:26returns by the end of the year, which I think kind of feels right. Okay. Thank you, Harry.
11:31Thank you. Jump. Turn to this. This morning, we were learning new details,
11:35but a tragedy at an amusement park. This week, a man died after riding a roller coaster at
11:39Universal Orlando Resorts News Park. And a medical examiner now says that the man died from blunt
11:45impact injuries, ruling the death an accident. Police say the man who was in his 30s was found
11:51unresponsive after riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Epic Universe. The ride can hit up to
11:58speeds of up to 62 miles an hour. That's according to the park's website. There's still a lot of
12:03questions around this. The medical examiner did not mention any details about the injuries
12:08and where they were even on his body. Officials with Universal say they are cooperating with
12:13investigators. Now, a once popular YouTube couple breaking their silence about their personal life
12:19that turned into a national scandal. Three years ago, former Try Guys member Ned Fulmer cheated on
12:25his wife, Ariel, with a producer at his company. The fallout led to Try Guys removing him from the
12:30company. Now, Ned and Ariel are talking about it. The couple says they are still friends or remaining
12:38friendly and co-parenting their two children. A scary afternoon for a Kentucky homeowner after a plane
12:45overshot the runway and hit the house. Authorities say yesterday the Cessna veered off the runway at
12:50them and then hit the house. Fortunately, the person inside the home at the time not injured and
12:55neither was the pilot. Fortunately, according to the sheriff's office, the FAA and NTSB are now
13:00investigating. John? We're afraid of treating. A late night show of strength and pushback. Comedians
13:06laying it out there after Jimmy Kimmel's shocking suspension from Disney and ABC. Protests are
13:10scheduled for today outside of Disney offices and President Trump floats the idea of going even
13:16further. This morning, President Trump speaking of is speaking with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the
13:22future of TikTok and trade between these two world powers. And the U.S. Coast Guard announces it has
13:28seized more than 75,000 pounds of cocaine from the Pacific Ocean. Sarah is out today. I'm Kate Baldwin
13:35with John Berman. This is CNN News 7. All right, let's get to it. The stars of late night unite
13:41behind
13:42Jimmy Kimmel, their fellow hosts and comedians offering a major show of force after ABC pulled
13:47Kimmel off air indefinitely after facing pressure from the Trump administration. Last hour, we spoke
13:52with comedian Paul Mercurio, who helps warm up the live audience for the late show with Stephen
13:57Colbert. And here was his take. Paul Mercurio for you, everybody. Jimmy Kimmel still has not publicly
14:03responded to all of this. As for whether he'll return, a source tells CNN that ABC hopes there
14:09is a path, but that he'll have to, quote, take the temperature down. And who decides that? Meantime,
14:15FCC Chair Brendan Carr is suggesting that this name may not be, as he puts it, the last shoe to
14:20drop.
14:21And President Trump said just yesterday and last night that any broadcaster who says things that
14:25he doesn't like or criticizes him he thinks should lose their broadcasting license. Joining us right now
14:31is CNN Chief Media Analyst Brian Stelter for more on this. Brian, what's your take and what are you
14:35hearing now? Because the fallout is growing. The president seems to want to take it even further.
14:41What do you see? Yeah, there's even reporting on this. Really appreciate it.
14:47John, we're following some breaking news right now. We've just learned that President Trump
14:51is speaking. He's on the phone with Chinese President Xi Jinping this morning in an effort
14:55to finalize the deal that has been pushed off again and again to keep TikTok alive in the United
15:02States. Let's get right to the White House. CNN's Betsy Kline is standing by. Betsy,
15:06what are you learning about this? This is a very important phone call between these two world
15:09leaders. As always, Betsy Kline at the White House for us. Much more to come there. Also
15:15breaking overnight, a massive cleanup effort underway in California after mudslides just wipe out
15:20homes and cars. And mortgage rates are at their lowest level in a year. After this week's Fed
15:26rate cut, could we see them fall even further? And do you trust AI? There has been a major shift
15:33in how Americans view its impact on society. A massive cleanup effort is underway in Southern
15:41California after heavy rains triggered some pretty severe mudslides. Roads were just covered. Homes
15:47got buried in this mud. Video can just show you just the rushing, how powerful that rushing muddy
15:53water was. CNN's meteorologist Allison Chinchar tracking this one for us. And Allison, what are you
16:00seeing? Right. So again, I think the key takeaway from Allison, thank you so much for reporting
16:05on this. John. All right, we do. Security is ramping up for Charlie Kirk's funeral, which is set for this
16:12Sunday. Now, this service has a level one security designation, which is what big events like the
16:18Super Bowl receive. As those prep work are now under investigation. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announcing
16:25on Monday this number of investigations that have already been launched at north of 280. Joining us
16:32right now is a Democratic state.
