00:00Goodbye swiping. Hello AI dating at Bumble, bringing artificial intelligence into the dating world in a whole new way. I'm
00:06Kate Baldwin with John Berman and Sarah Seidner. This is CNN News Central. The breaking news this morning, as we
00:13just heard President Trump speaking aboard Air Force One on his way back from his big meeting with China and
00:20Xi Jinping. The president now saying that he has not determined whether to move forward on the major multibillion dollar
00:27arms package for Taiwan after this
00:29summit and this two days of meetings with the Chinese leader. I want to play for you a little bit
00:34more about what he just told reporters on Air Force One about this. Taiwan is a democratic and self-governing
00:42island. Beijing has long viewed it as part of its own territory. Joining me right now to discuss is Republican
00:49Congress. And we do have breaking news this morning. It could be the most consequential headline coming out of the
00:54summit in Beijing so far. Hearing from President Trump after two days of meetings with the
00:59Chinese leader, Trump now says that he himself has not decided whether to move forward on the major multibillion dollar
01:06arms package for Taiwan after his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. I want to play for you what he
01:13told reporters aboard Air Force One as they were leaving Beijing.
01:18Those comments raising new questions about where the U.S. stands right now on Taiwan's defense. Taiwan is a democratic
01:25and self-governing island. Beijing views it as part of its own territory.
01:29The Chinese Communist Party has long vowed to, as they call it, unify the island with the mainland by force
01:36if necessary. Let's get over to the White House. That's where Sina's Julia Benbrook is for us this morning. And
01:42a lot coming, the President Trump saying quite a lot aboard Air Force One, but leaving a lot of questions
01:48of what really has come from this important visit.
01:53We're still looking for a lot of specifics as President Donald Trump has announced that during this. Thank you very
02:00much for that, Sarah. All right. So after 29 years, nine execution dates set and three last meals, a man
02:07accused of a murder for hire plot back in the 90s is now out on bond while he awaits a
02:13new trial. Richard Glossop, he walked out of jail for the first time in decades just yesterday, accompanied by his
02:19attorney.
02:20Glossop was now awaiting a retrial for the 1997 murder of his former boss. The Supreme Court throughout his conviction
02:27last year, citing prosecutorial misconduct and false testimony that wasn't cleared up from a key witness. The now 63-year
02:35-old briefly spoke to reporters.
02:40This is a complicated case, but the history is a long road for him. It was 1997. He was the
02:48man just trying everything they can find. As the years go on, they start getting boxes of evidence and something
02:54that they see in the file that they truth is told during the trial. The prosecutor must clear it up
02:59so the jury knows the truth. They did not. We, the Supreme Court, are saying of the lies on the
03:04stand by the maintenance man.
03:05It is not proof is not reasonable doubt to be continued to be. I mean, a long road to here.
03:11Perfect. You're amazing at summing it up like you did. And a lot. Now this man in his 60s out
03:17on bond after so many years. Thanks. Trump mobile says they will begin shipping this week. Nearly one year after
03:25they began taking deposits for the gold plated phones. Why the timing here is now being considered curious.
03:33And a police chase ends with a car going airborne. All of it caught on dash cam, of course. What
03:40led up to, oh my God, what happened now? We'll bring it to you.
03:44The war with Iran. President Trump has said that Iran is a ticking time bomb if it does not get
03:50oil moving and doing so fast. He has repeatedly suggested infrastructure could explode because of it being backed up. Experts,
03:58though, skeptical of that. David Goldman is here. He's got much more on this. What are you seeing here?
04:03Yeah, it's a weird story, right? I mean, we don't usually think about their oil. So eventually they actually have
04:10to shut their oil wells off. And that's called oil, not a development. We should be anticipating, at least on
04:17the horizon. Not today. Of all the weird things that are happening, this is not one you need to worry
04:21about today.
04:22It concludes your David Goldman day of talk. I appreciate it. Thank you so much, Sarah. All right. Thank you
04:28so much, Kate.
04:29The Supreme Court says that for now, women can still access Mifepristone through telehealth appointments and get the pill by
04:36mail. But that is not the end of the legal saga now over the widely used abortion medication.
04:41The justices did not rule on the merits of this case, at least yet. It was brought by the Louisiana
04:46attorney general. Instead, the high court sent it back down to the lower courts for litigation to continue and then
04:51told the conservative Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals that its order restricting access to the medication nationwide would remain blocked
04:59in the meantime.
05:00On May 1st, the same court had ruled that women would. The brief order from the Supreme Court didn't give
05:07the vote count, if you will. But Justice Thomas and Justice Alito did write a dissent calling this abortion method
05:15a, quote, scheme to undermine our decision overturning Roe versus Wade.
05:21Also, nearly a year after Trump Mobile started taking $100 deposits for its gold-plated phone, the company, launched by,
05:28at least in part by the president's sons, now says that it will finally start shipping this week. The timing
05:34to some curious. It comes just after new reports surfaced highlighting that the phone's pre-order terms changed to now
05:43say deposit did not guarantee a phone would actually be produced. That did not sit well with a lot of
05:48customers.
05:48And then the first update in six months appeared. Their $499 phones are coming. But with changes, the Android device
05:56is expected to have a smaller screen and less memory than previously promised. Trump Mobile also dropped its original made
06:04-in-the-USA label, now using language like designed with American values in mind.
06:09Some analysts note what they say is a striking resemblance between the phones and the Chinese-made phones sold at
06:16Walmart for less than $200.
06:18Trump Mobile's CEO blamed the delay on tech issues, saying this,
06:22The technology business is more difficult than some may realize as parts must be tested for quality assurances.
06:30Sarah?
06:31All right.
06:31Today is Jerome Powell's last day after eight years at the helm of the Federal Reserve.
06:35Kevin Warsh, now confirmed by the Senate, to take the reins.
06:39Powell isn't leaving the central bank entirely, of course.
06:42He has said that he's staying on as a governor on the Fed's board until he determines that the federal
06:47investigation of him is truly over.
06:50Now, Warsh's confirmation comes as the U.S. economy has been rattled, as we have seen in recent data, inflation
06:56inching higher.
06:58New data just this week shows that a mayor publicly stated that he wants Warsh to cut interest rates.
07:02But can he, with numbers coming in like this?
07:05Let's talk about what this day means and this new era will be looking like.
07:08Joining me right now is Jared Bernstein, the former chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President
07:13Biden.
07:13It's good to see you.
07:14What is the Kevin Warsh era going to look like, in your view?
07:19All right.
07:19It's a major story this morning.
07:21A proposed U.S. weapons sale worth about $14 billion to Taiwan may or may not be happening.
07:30President Trump now saying that he has not yet decided whether to move forward with it after Chinese President Xi
07:35Jinping warned him that making a wrong move on Taiwan could trigger clashes and even conflicts between the U.S.
07:42and China.
07:43I'm going to play for you what he told reporters aboard Air Force One that is now getting a lot
07:48of attention as they were leaving Beijing after this two-day summit.
07:52The island is democratic and self-governing, but Beijing views it as part of its own territory.
08:01The Chinese Communist Party has long vowed to unify the island with the mainland by force, if necessary.
08:08Let's get the very latest on what we've now heard from this big, important two-day summit in Beijing, seeing
08:16as Julia Benbrook is live at the White House for us this morning.
08:18What's the latest that you're picking up from there now?
08:22Yep, much to learn still.
08:24It's good to see you.
08:25Thank you so much, Julia.
08:26Jump.
08:27President Trump, he's in the air right now, heading back to Washington from Beijing.
08:30And two reporters, he said a lot of different problems were settled with Xi Jinping.
08:36But the big question now is, what does that mean for Taiwan?
08:39And new video out of Florida showing the moment a suspect ambushed a police officer with a knife, stabbing him
08:45multiple times.
08:46What officials say saved that officer's life.
08:51Quite a mugshot.
08:54President Trump is on his way home from China now this morning, and he's making headlines on Taiwan along the
09:00way.
09:00He now says that he and Xi discussed Taiwan extensively in their two days of meetings,
09:05told reporters that he has not made up his mind about the multibillion-dollar arms deal to Taiwan,
09:11the democratic and self-governing island that Beijing views as part of its territory.
09:16A lot of members of Congress wanted to see the president endorse that arms deal.
09:22Here's what the president now says aboard Air Force One.
09:25Xi warned President Trump during the summit that the wrong move on Taiwan could trigger, the way he puts it,
09:32clashes and even conflicts between the two superpowers.
09:34Joining me right now.
09:36I am speechless at that cuteness.
09:39Well, you should stay tuned to CNN because Wolf Blitzer will be talking to that.
09:43The dog will say bark.
09:46Should we do this?
09:47Okay.
09:49The popular dating app Bumble is changing things up, bringing in Natty.
09:53Just kidding.
09:54Getting rid of the well-known swipe feature.
09:57Bumble's CEO says that people are just feeling exhausted about the constant swiping to find a match.
10:01So now they've announced that it is all getting an AI makeover
10:07and introducing a new AI assistant to act as matchmaker.
10:11CNN's Claire Duffy tracking this one and joining us now.
10:14Now, an AI dating concierge, tell me everything.
10:20Claire Duffy, you are the bomb.
10:22This is lots of questions, lots of interesting things, but AI can just handle it.
10:26But if my human race is over.
10:28No, it's going to offer no more human connection.
10:30If my dating concierge is talking to your dating concierge and said, how many people are on this date?
10:34I mean, what kind of relationship is this?
10:36Let's just put it this way.
10:36Our dating concierge would say, definitely not happening.
10:40Not happening.
10:40All right.
10:41Thank you all for joining us.
