00:06and of course the guy on the number one machine here, Jet Lawrence.
00:10But how important is this to Jet in the sense of beating him?
00:14Is this a building process for him?
00:16Well, according to his dad, Darren Lawrence, absolutely.
00:18They know that he's come off injury.
00:20They know that this is going to take time.
00:22And nobody's necessarily in his camp expecting the Jet perfection that we are used to straight off the bat.
00:28They are thinking championship.
00:30Absolutely, if the win is there, they want to take it.
00:33Does he want it?
00:34Of course he wants it.
00:35But they know that they are in a building process right now.
00:38What version of Jet will we get?
00:40We're about to find out here, guys, at GateDrop.
00:44Well, his biggest competition might be his brother.
00:47What a breakout Supercross season.
00:49Almost winning that championship.
00:50And there was a lot of wonder, would Hunter be Hunter coming off that?
00:54Well, we've seen it so far today.
00:55Fastest qualifier.
00:57Hunter Lawrence might be the Lawrence that walks away with this victory.
01:00We're just going to start here on the gate.
01:03It's been over 1,000 days since Eli Tomek has actually won an overall.
01:07He's one of the all-time greats in this sport, but hasn't won a race since this track at the
01:11end of the 2022 season.
01:14But Eli made it pretty simple yesterday.
01:15He plans on ending that real quick.
01:18It might even happen here today.
01:21Jorge Prado, we've got some making up to do for 2025, and no one wants to do that more than
01:27he does.
01:28He feels like he has a lot of people to prove wrong.
01:30A lot of talk about how he underperformed last year.
01:34He can start the road to redemption right here at round one.
01:37Yeah, JT, and he is one of the best starters ever on that number 26.
01:41Would not be surprised to see that orange Red Bull KTM up front.

01:47Probably the most anticipated opener in this series, which has been running for 55 years.

01:55Jett Lawrence, Hayden Deegan, but so many other greats on the gate right now.

02:39He has struggled with starts on the Kawasaki.

02:46But Hunter Lawrence, when you're looking at him, the speed, the way he was doing it, it's scary for everybody

02:55And another guy we really haven't mentioned that much, Chase Sexton.
02:57And we know he always carries the speed.
02:59But does he carry the mindset to come in here and win and be able to contend?

03:07These riders used to battle over in Europe and MXGP.

03:12And does not want Hunter Lawrence to get away.

03:16Gent Lawrence is running in the 16th.
03:19So, bad start for a defending champ.
03:21Not sure what happened.
03:22He's got a long ways to go.
03:23And the one guy's out front.
03:25Might be the toughest is his brother.

03:28He is 20th.
03:30So, the big names that everyone's talking about struggling.
03:34Hunter Lawrence starting to roll.
03:36And here comes Sexton now.
03:39Yeah, Chase going to try to follow these two guys.
03:41They have been the fastest guys of the day.
03:43Jorge Prado and Hunter Lawrence.
03:44So, Chase wants to get up there.
03:46I'm not sure what his mindset is.
03:47Is he here trying to win?
03:48Or is he here trying to make sure his bike is good?

03:59And they are not quick to get up.

04:04And last time we saw Eli race was the same kind of incident there.

04:11The four-time champion, Tomac, getting together.

04:15That is eerily similar to a couple of the crashes late in the Monster Energy Supercross campaign for Tomac.

04:23Keeping Lawrence in sight on lap two.
04:27And that's a bummer to see.
04:28Certainly not just for Tomac, but Marchbank, who's very quick in qualifying as well.
04:34But it's going to be Lawrence Prado-Hara up top three, lap one.
04:37Here we go.
04:38Yeah, you're going to watch Eli right here in the middle.
04:41And then you got Marchbank on the outside here.
04:45Watch these lines.
04:45Eli's going to get in there.
04:46I don't know if he's going to pop out of that rub, but Marchbank's come.
04:49Racing incident, but tough hit for both of them.
04:52Gary went down really hard in the face of that jump.
04:56Oh, man, that's hard.
04:58Yeah, you hate to see it for both of those riders.
05:01Prado just inching up ever so slightly on Hunter early.
05:06Sexton is now third ahead of Harrop.
05:08And Justin Cooper is fifth.
05:10Mr. Craig, Barsha, Plessinger, Webb round out the top ten.
05:14And there's Jet Lawrence, fired in traffic.
05:17He just made the move we hear on Cooper Webb.
05:20That'll move him to tenth.
05:21As I said with his teammate in the 250 class,
05:24Joe Shimodo, Jet was struggling earlier.
05:26So this might be a good thing.
05:27Takes that mindset off of even trying to win this race.
05:30Get in that form, really get that race craft going.
05:33To be up in that top five, you have to make some great passes.
05:36So let's see if you can keep moving up.
05:38Is that Deegan behind him or?
05:41Oh, no, it's Webb.
05:42Yeah, it's Deegan's teammate.
05:43But I'll tell you what's crazy.
05:45Jet had led 91 straight laps at this track
05:48until the first one here with the bad start.
05:52And Cornelius Tondal right there making moves,
05:55battling Webb uphill behind Lawrence.
05:58We just passed it two, three times two across champ out here.
06:05I think Deegan's about to get into this fight as well.
06:07He's at the bottom of the screen, battling Webb now.
06:10Let's go to JT.
06:12Well, we're going to try to get a replay of the start.
06:15I watched Jett Lawrence, and he started right next to Jorge Prado.
06:19We're going to come up on the screen right here.
06:21Watch Jorge Prado and Jett Lawrence next to each other.
06:23They are side by side.
06:24You see Prado finally get the drive right there.
06:27You see Jett get squeezed out by Cooper on his left
06:29and Prado on the right.
06:30That is what got him to start.
06:32It was so close.
06:33But that last, when they grabbed third gear,
06:35the pull there that Prado got him to second,
06:37and Jett fell back to 14th.
06:39Yeah, and truthfully, that's probably a little bit of timidness by Jett
06:42because he hasn't raced all year.
06:43And I know when I came back from injury,
06:45that's one of the scariest parts, being around a bunch of people.
06:48So I think Jett probably shut off a little early
06:51and was just trying to stay up.
06:52And when you do that here, you go from top 10
06:55to in the back of the pack to looking back,
06:57and you got Hayden Deegan on you.
06:59Well, here it is.
07:00They're hooking up in a battle.
07:01Maybe not the positions that people expected.
07:03This is a fight for 10th and 11th between Lawrence and Deegan.
07:10Yeah, this is a scary position for Jett
07:12because he wants to be able to work his way in,
07:14and he's got guys in front of him,
07:16so he probably won't be able to run his lines.
07:17But then you got Hayden Deegan just railing it,
07:20scrubbing it behind you.
07:21He knows he wants to make the pass.
07:23So that would be scary.
07:25I'm interested to see what happens.
07:26I believe if Hayden comes in, Jett will probably let him by
07:30and try to follow him, maybe repass him later.
07:32Meanwhile, bottom box, Jorge Prado all over.
07:35Hunter Lawrence for the lead.
07:37Prado came to play as expected.
07:39Now Jett Lawrence makes the move on Barsha.
07:42That'll move him to ninth,
07:44and Barsha now between Jett and Deegan.
07:47Yeah, Jett's just got to keep moving forward,
07:49keep that gap in that 38
07:50as Hayden Deegan makes his way around him.
07:53As I said, Jett wouldn't be able to run his line,
07:55so he might get slowed up,
07:56which will allow Hayden Deegan to come in.
07:59I think Barsha made a pass back on him.
08:03Well, that's what makes it so fun, this field here.
08:06You can go back to 10th and find some riders
08:08who will not just roll over.
08:10Barsha will fight you as hard as anyone.
08:13Up front, the yo-yo game.
08:15Prado able to close in.
08:16Hunter pulls it back out,
08:17and vice versa between the leaders in that bottom box.
08:21And Sexton lurking as well.
08:22Yeah, I think all these guys are just kind of,
08:25like we saw Levi Kitchen,
08:27just kind of letting this race play out.
08:29If you get close to him, try to make that pass.
08:31And by their body language,
08:33there's not too much of a rush for all three of these guys.
08:35Jorge was standing up,
08:36and then when you attack,
08:38he'll close in on Hunter.
08:39Hunter knows he's going to be there,
08:40so this race is just a chess game at this point,
08:43except you're just going 60 miles an hour
08:45while playing chess.
08:46Exactly.
08:47It's faster than most people could go.
08:48Oh, man, you see there on the left side of the screen,
08:51right side of the track,
08:52towback still being attended to
08:54after that hard crash on lap one.
08:57You hate to see it.
08:59Christian Craig is next on the charge for Jet Lawrence,
09:03and here's Deegan following him through.
09:06Yeah, still a great ride by Jet.
09:08He's starting to pick up the pace,
09:09making his way up,
09:10so maybe what he's going to do
09:11is he knows that 38's behind him.
09:14Maybe that's what's pushing him forward,
09:15so he's not thinking about anything else
09:16besides getting away,
09:17and while he's doing it,
09:18he's closing in on the guys ahead of him.
09:21They might all meet out the front
09:22the way it's going right now,
09:24so that'll move Jet up to eight.
09:26Craig Knight.
09:27Craig and Deegan are very close.
09:29Actually, Craig was working with Deegan
09:31as a bit of a coach
09:32about a year and a half ago.
09:33They're still pretty tight on the track,
09:35but every man for himself
09:37out on the round one pro moto cost opener.
09:41Yep, absolutely.
09:42When you think about Jet Lawrence,
09:44I mean, how long has it been
09:45since he's actually raised him?
09:47He's six-plus months.
09:48You look at last time he goes back,
09:50and, you know,
09:51so just going back to what happened
09:52in that first corner,
09:53it's easy to happen.
09:54A mistake right there.
09:55All this takes a look over.
09:57And Deegan already passed Craig,
09:59so he's right there with Jet.
10:02Yeah, let's see what happens here.
10:05And I don't think Craig put up
10:06too much of a fight on Deegan.
10:08Deegan around the outside.
10:09Side by side.
10:11Lawrence and Deegan.
10:13Yeah, Craig tried to let him go by
10:15because he's like,
10:15I want to see what happens right here
10:17with Hayden Deegan.
10:19Deegan makes the pass
10:21on Jet Lawrence
10:22and now going after Plessinger.
10:25Yeah, that mistake by Jet
10:26obviously allowed Hayden to go,
10:28and Hayden wants to make that pass
10:30and make his way forward.
10:32So I thought Jet would do what he did.
10:34Played a long game.
10:35Be smart.
10:35Hopefully the errand slows Hayden down
10:38so he doesn't go
10:38and he has an opportunity to go by,
10:39but he might.
10:41He's right back to the rear wheel
10:43of Deegan.
10:45Now the cool part
10:45when you watch these two guys,
10:47like their contrast in style,
10:49like Hayden Deegan
10:49really runs it in a lot.
10:51And we know how patient
10:52Jet Lawrence is.
10:53So when you're watching
10:54him on the racetrack,
10:55you'll see.
10:55There it is.
10:56Jet got him back.
10:58And the crowd responds.
10:59Simple as that.
11:00One mistake.
11:01Hayden goes to the outside.
11:02Jet sneaks in.
11:03And that's the difference
11:04between the 250 class
11:06and 450.

11:30from some vicious injuries

11:42Jet relaxes going in the corner.
11:44Hayden really attacks it.
11:45So it's easy for Hayden
11:46to make up a lot of time
11:47entering the corner.
11:48In some of these parts
11:49where you get these split lanes,
11:50you'll have a lot of opportunities
11:52to pass Jet.
11:53Jet carries that momentum,
11:54but Hayden will always
11:55close that gap
11:56by the way he rides.
11:59Looks like we lost Chase X
12:00and he was in 3rd.
12:01Now Justin Cooper
12:02has moved up.
12:03Yeah, Sexton is now 4th.
12:05And that's the battle
12:07out front with Prado
12:08just stalking Hunter Lawrence
12:10from 2nd.
12:12Yeah, these guys just ran

12:15pretty much than everybody
12:16else on the racetrack.
12:17So they're picking that pace up.
12:19You see Jorge standing up.
12:21It don't look like
12:22they were too big of a rush
12:23compared to his brother
12:24and Hayden Deacon.

12:33between Hunter Lawrence

12:35They've had a war of words.
12:37They kind of talk back and forth.
12:38There was the body Spanish comment
12:40by Jorge Prado.
12:42And even a couple weeks ago
12:43at the finale in Salt Lake City,
12:45Jorge Prado was the one
12:46putting pressure on Hunter Lawrence
12:48that you could argue
12:49forced that mistake.
12:50So it's one of the most
12:51under-reported rivalries
12:53that we have going right now,
12:54but it's about to heat up.
12:55Well, yeah, because now
12:56it's one-on-one for the lead
12:57and those two at the bottom
12:59as Lawrence and Deacon
13:00are making moves on Plessinger.
13:02The other Lawrence and Prado
13:04are long gone up front.
13:06Yeah, I love the contrast.

13:27is being helped off the track

13:34so early in this campaign.
13:38There's Prado continuing
13:40to shadow Hunter Lawrence, Will.

13:47We may well see a Hunter Lawrence,

13:51And these are the two guys

13:54who are not coming off injury.
13:56They have plenty of momentum

14:01But as I just spoke
14:02to team manager Ian Harrison
14:03about, that's a gray area.
14:05He's gone back to Red Bull KTM.
14:07He's gone back to a bike ring
14:08that he's extremely used to.
14:10So he doesn't think that counts.
14:12So we've talked about two guys
14:13really who are battling
14:14nothing else apart
14:15from themselves right now.
14:17And I asked Jorge Hengli
14:17a second, but you've only
14:19just learned these tracks
14:20and you were doing it
14:20in a kind of a
14:21non-competitive way last year.
14:24You were doing it
14:24at the back of the pack.
14:25And he said, that's probably
14:26my only thing that I have
14:27to deal with here,
14:28James, is the line selection
14:30from last year
14:31when he was, you know,
14:3210th and further back
14:33to being up front
14:35and running up front
14:35is a very different experience
14:37for him.
14:37Yeah, it is.
14:38But at the same time,
14:40Jorge is used to winning,
14:42you know,
14:42and this is where
14:43he's more comfortable at.
14:44And I think with him,
14:45when you're a rotter,
14:46this is one of so many times,
14:47you've got to have
14:48a little bit of naive about you.
14:49So I think in Jorge's mind,
14:51last year was last year.
14:52I know what the problem was.
14:53I changed that problem.
14:54So I'm going to go back
14:56to being what I am
14:57as he's closing in
14:57on Hunter Lawrence.
14:59So I think it's more about
15:00this is more normal for him
15:02compared to where he was
15:03last year.

15:05he's making his way up.

16:19Came back to KTM
16:20the brand he rode for
16:21when he was a youngster
16:22in Europe
16:23and it has paid
16:24massive dividends.
16:25Very good in Supercross
16:26considering he does not
16:27have much experience
16:28racing in stadiums.
16:29Now he's comfortable
16:30on his types of tracks
16:31and he's riding well
16:33in second.
16:34Here's Jorge
16:34on his goals
16:35and his expectations
16:36for the motocross campaign.
16:41So my expectations
16:43for the 2026
16:45Pro Motocross Championship
16:46basically it's to win.
16:48I really hope
16:49I can get it done
16:51this year.

23:37people I mean
23:38this could be

23:39career ending
23:40but the way
23:41you alter
23:42your life

23:43your everyday
23:43so the fact
23:44that this guy
23:45came out
23:45just shows you
23:46how mentally
23:46strong he is
23:47but I will
23:48say one thing
23:48he's got the
23:49right team
23:49of people
23:50around him
23:51he also has
23:51the right
23:52riding style
23:53to be able
23:53to get away
23:54with an injury
23:55like this
23:55being very patient
23:56you've got to
23:57change and adapt
23:58your riding style
23:59and Jett Lawrence
23:59is one of the
24:00best ever
24:00to do that
24:01and you know
24:02from what we saw
24:03that first practice
24:04to this
24:04you know
24:05he was really
24:06aggressive
24:06things start
24:07that clock

24:09when you look at
24:09how fast your
24:10brother is

24:12has got the right
24:12body type
24:13the right mindset
24:14to come back
24:15from injury
24:15and he's only
24:16going to get better

24:18we have now heard

24:21is awake and alert
24:22being transported
24:23though
24:23for further
24:24evaluation
24:25so a big bummer

24:31certainly we hope
24:32the best for him
24:34as Lawrence
24:35is now right there

24:38well but it's
24:39almost like you see

24:41almost each lap
24:42of the race
24:43no he is
24:43I mean we were
24:44sitting here
24:44watching practice
24:45earlier
24:45you know he was
24:46really rushing
24:47things and I had
24:48a chance to speak
24:48to Jett and he
24:49said that that's
24:50so easy to happen
24:51whether it's an
24:52injury or not
24:53that clock runs
24:54really fast when
24:55you get in this
24:55race atmosphere
24:57and a guy that's
24:58been off for all
24:59that time
24:59but I believe this
25:00is a very important
25:01couple laps for Jett
25:02because if he's able
25:03to get around RJ
25:04he might have an
25:05opportunity to get
25:06on the podium
25:06but even more
25:08he doesn't want to
25:08get stuck behind
25:09him and then let
25:10that 38 close in
25:12because all the
25:12stuff that he's
25:13been doing
25:13he's going to
25:14have to be
25:14worried about
25:14him so great
25:15route by all
25:16these guys
25:16but these next
25:17couple laps
25:18might end up

26:29I don't want to
26:30say run away but
26:31he's pulled a
26:31five and a half
26:32second lead now
26:33out think about
26:34how much he's
26:35had to summon
26:36himself find
26:37himself and bring
26:38his best effort
26:39to this race
26:39I don't have
26:40enough good
26:40things to say
26:41about what we're
26:41seeing with Hunter
26:42Lawrence right now
26:42I agree and the
26:43cool part about
26:44that JT he stayed
26:45down there to
26:46allow to be
26:47interviewed that
26:48just shows you
26:48what kind of
26:48person it is but
26:50even more than
26:51just you know
26:51being resilient I
26:53think there's what
26:54this says the way
26:54he's raced this
26:55first moto what it
26:56tells me and I'm
26:57sure Hunter's
26:58thinking that what
26:59happened in
26:59Supercross isn't a
27:00fluke because this
27:01is what we saw in
27:03Supercross like he
27:03was just steady
27:04made it look easy
27:06just pulled away from
27:07those guys and at
27:08one point of that
27:08whole series he was
27:09the best guy and it
27:11wasn't even really
27:11close so for Hunter
27:12I'm coming back with
27:14all that you know
27:15heartbreak at least
27:16I come back out here
27:17and it feels just like
27:18I left a few weeks
27:19ago and that only
27:21looked well for him
27:22moving forward
27:24further back Deegan
27:25now has Hampshire
27:26in sight so the
27:27rookie here seventh in
27:29his first 450 pro
27:30moto cross race can he
27:31make up any more
27:32positions Hampshire
27:33would be next and
27:34then Jet Lawrence up
27:35the road the gap
27:36between Lawrence and
27:37Deegan has stayed
27:38around a three to
27:39four second mark for
27:41about 15 minutes now
27:42there's Lawrence
27:43there's Hampshire
27:44here's Deegan
27:45yeah I think this is
27:47where Hayden when he
27:48talked earlier about
27:49he wants to win but
27:50also that backup plan
27:51and I think people
27:52might look at it as
27:53like he's you know
27:53making excuses but I
27:55think what Hayden is
27:56he's very you know
27:57he understands how
27:58great these guys are
27:59and to sit here and
28:00be like I want to win
28:01and kind of overlook the
28:02fact that they're that
28:03good it's not what he
28:05does he's got too good
28:06of a team around him
28:07so you hear Hayden
28:08when he says I'm here
28:09to learn he's really
28:10giving props to the
28:12guys around them
28:13because he knows how
28:13deep this 450 class
28:15is and so he
28:16understands that
28:16races if you don't
28:17get stars you might
28:18end up in seventh
28:20place with a good
28:21rod so Hayden
28:22smart enough looks
28:23like to me he's
28:23sitting back just
28:24learning and hopefully
28:26finish this top
28:27this moto off
28:28solid position
28:29yes because for all
28:30the bluster all the
28:31talk of Hayden
28:32Deegan the one thing
28:34he has been mentioning
28:35lately that he takes
28:35the most pride in is
28:36he never missed a
28:37single 250 race due to
28:40injury so there is a
28:42method even though it
28:43looks like pure
28:44badness there is a
28:45method to that
28:46badness as far as
28:46consistency and
28:47building and learning
28:49and then coming back
28:50to next time and it's
28:51awfully close now you
28:53can still see jet and
28:54you can see Hampshire
28:55right there
28:56yeah here's danger
28:57boy yeah and we know
28:58what what do we know
28:59about Hayden torsos in
29:00the race oh yeah and
29:01this guy never lets
29:02off and I go back to
29:03what I said a couple
29:04laps ago with jet
29:05Lawrence that pass
29:06around RJ was very
29:07important because of
29:08who was behind him
29:09and Hayden smelled
29:10that blood I don't
29:11care if it's his first
29:12race or 300 this guy
29:14will not give up and
29:15you give him an
29:16opportunity he's going
29:17to try to seize it
29:18so Hayden Deegan's
29:19doing a great job he's
29:21always going to be
29:22there and he's
29:23learning as we you
29:24know every lap that
29:25goes by all right
29:26he's putting in a
29:26charge right now two
29:28minutes and two laps
29:29to go and the fans
29:30barbecuing up at the
29:31top of the hillsides
29:32that's motocross
29:33tradition getting up
29:35close to the action
29:35look at that crowd
29:36there and a lot of
29:38them wanted to see

30:21think he did come

30:24well it was third
30:25then it looked like
30:26it was going to be
30:27a fourth and then
30:28he'll drop the
30:302024 champion in a
30:31series back to
30:33seventh as mentioned
30:34and Deegan is
30:35definitely digging
30:35down the stretch
30:36though yeah he's
30:37digging in but he's
30:39also coming up to a
30:40guy who's kind of
30:41like him as the race
30:42goes on RJ's the
30:43same way he never
30:44gives up really
30:45strong and um you
30:47know still a good
30:47ride by Hayden
30:48sixth if he can get
30:49past RJ top five
30:51but the main thing is
30:52he saw Jet Lawrence he
30:53saw that pace and if
30:55you can keep it on
30:55two wheels there's
30:56always something to
30:57build so I'm sure
30:59he's gonna be
30:59disappointed that he
31:00was ahead of Jet at
31:01one point and got
31:02passed but he's also
31:03taking notes while
31:04that was going on
31:05yeah I mean he has
31:06to take notes and
31:07that's what I was
31:07saying back to my
31:08point you know I
31:09think Hayden
31:10understands that as
31:11much as he talks
31:12these guys are
31:14generation Jett
31:15Lawrence is Victor
31:16Wimbiana he's a
31:17freak he's an alien
31:18out here so you're
31:19not just gonna roll
31:20over so once he
31:20made that pass Jet
31:21was gonna come back

31:25racing will let him

31:58this is a great
31:58moto for Jet because

34:54has never
34:55not lined up

34:56he's been able
34:57to stay healthy

34:58and now one lap
34:59to go

35:01who is the

35:02for left brain
