00:01And so many contenders that everyone talked about. No one talked about this one, Nick Romano, who was just hoping
00:06to stay on with his team as a fill-in rider, was running in a podium position for a lot
00:11of moto one and ended up fifth. So a solid performance by the rider from New York City. And let's
00:17see if he can continue that. And if he does, I think you're going to be seeing him racing for
00:20this squad throughout this year and maybe even next. No pressure, Nick Romano, as the riders ready, the mechanics start
00:28to back away.
00:30There's Seth Hamaker, who is a runner-up in moto one. That was actually a career best in pro motocross
00:35for him. Remember, both motos count together for the overall. The fly racing 30-second card is up. Who will
00:42be the first overall winner of the year in the 250 class? We're going to find out because the reps
00:48are up.
00:51It's down.
00:57Julian Bommere leads him in, but he goes a little wide, still able to control it. Michael Moseman there with
01:04him at Hamaker.
01:06Great start by Julian. Rough start that first moto, so better start for him. We saw him earlier today having
01:12some speed.
01:13Been your third fastest qualifier. Good start for him. And is that, you said, Michael Moseman?
01:18Yeah.
01:19Good to see him up. He was on the far inside gate, close to it, so was able to sneak
01:23around.
01:23And you got the second moto, uh, first moto, finished second place.
01:27Seth Hamaker up there in a good position. I don't see Levi Kitchen.
01:30No, that's what I'm looking for. That has been the problem with Kitchen the last year and a half has
01:34been the starts.
01:35Wasn't a great one in moto one, but not bad enough to stop him.
01:39Julian Bommere off to the race. He's already pulling away from Moseman and Hamaker.
01:43Yeah, this is pretty easy. When you have that speed, you come out, get the whole shot. You're young. You
01:47just go for it.
01:48And you realize, man, I'm pulling away from these guys, but it's a long race.
01:53Want to make sure you have enough for the tank, and Julian always has had the speed as he's starting
01:58to pull away.
01:58Well, he led seven laps in the second moto at this race a year ago, Bommere.
02:04But this is a little different because he's coming back from a devastating back injury.
02:08Looking good as Hamaker attacks Moseman. Uphill. Right-hand turn coming. Can he get it?
02:14Yeah, a great pass. I thought he almost had that pass.
02:17He did now.
02:18Yeah, yeah, just a racing incident. You know, Michael was trying to close that door, but Seth was moving forward.
02:23I thought he had the pass earlier, but tough break for Michael.
02:26Michael looks like he's got a couple more guys. Is that Levi? Yeah.
02:30It is Levi.
02:31Good eyes there, James.
02:32So that's the Moto 1 winner.
02:33And the bike, he goes down a second time.
02:36So I'm going to say bye-bye to the overall win for the 47.
02:40Oh, man.
02:41Something's wrong.
02:42Yeah, it looked like his bike spun out his hand the way he was looking.
02:44But, yeah, this is it.
02:47I mean, if that bike runs, this is that championship.
02:49You've got to get up and move forward.
02:51That front brake issues, maybe.
02:53You see the handguard was pointing almost straight down on the right side.
02:59Oh, disaster.
03:00And you're right, it quickly shifted from, you're right, forget the overall.
03:03You've got to salvage points.
03:04You've got to get into the top 20 to score any points at all as Bomer continues to roll.
03:10Yeah, just a great opportunity for guys like Julian.
03:13Had a tough first moto.
03:14You know, finished it, but wasn't where he wanted to be.
03:18But a great opportunity for the guy in second place, Seth.
03:22Finishing solid.
03:23Now you've got Julian.
03:24You probably feel like you've been racing.
03:26He might come back towards you.
03:27But your biggest competition and your teammate was on the ground.
03:30You've got to make it work.
03:32Well, how about this story?
03:34What a comeback.
03:36Julian Bomer broke his back early in the SMX playoffs.
03:40Last year and was told, first doctor he went to,
03:43you're not even going to touch a motorcycle for 12 months,
03:46which would have been September of this year.
03:48Well, here we are in May, and he's not just on a motorcycle.
03:51He is leading the best in the business.
03:55Out of track, he's logged a lot of laps on.
03:57But he pushes back against that.
03:59He believes he can get it done anywhere.
04:01Right now, he's getting it done for sure here.
04:03Yeah, he's getting it done.
04:04And the biggest thing, he's always had speed.
04:06It's just really the injuries.
04:07And I said earlier, when that doctor said that,
04:09he probably said, have a nice day.
04:11Because we believe in whoop, we can overcome anything.
04:14And with Julian, like, you just stay out here.
04:17You know he's good at this track.
04:18And you never know what might happen if you roll this thing off.
04:22Great start, though.
04:24Kayden Dugney is third.
04:25That's the rookie who is very strong in Moto 1.
04:27Now, the overall results are probably going to get quite jumbled from here.
04:32And some of the good contenders that we saw in Moto 1, who have bad starts now,
04:37begin to move forward.
04:38But at least at the moment, you're looking at a Hammacher-Bomer-Dugney podium.
04:44Yeah, that door's open.
04:45They've all kicked it in.
04:46And look how close it is.
04:48You know, and these rookies right here, they'll only get better.
04:52First Moto, you know, solid finish.
04:54Now in that top three.
04:56And no real pressure behind him.
04:58So if he can just keep it going, this race will open up.
05:00You've got to think about fitness that comes in.
05:03So far, it's pretty good.
05:04Oh, that's Dax Benick.
05:06He was running well.
05:07I think right around that fifth-place spot.
05:09And now he has crashed.
05:10Yeah, it looks like it's in the same section that Eli went down.
05:14It's a high-speed section, and he's off the racetrack.
05:16So either he got a little bit of help or he went in too hot.
05:19Nonetheless, tough break for Daxton.
05:23Here's Dundee, originally of Iowa, then moved to Texas.
05:27And they got picked up by this Monster Star Yamaha team.
05:31That means you head to the Cairo, Georgia, Tallahassee, Florida, state line area.
05:36And he's been doing the work.
05:38And it's paying off right now.
05:40Running third.
05:41And a lot of hype about his speed.
05:44But we've seen so many young riders who have the speed and aren't translating it to the racetrack.
05:49So far, so good today for Dundee.
05:51Yeah, and all it takes is a race like this.
05:54All he can finish this, he does have the speed.
05:56I mean, he's riding with Hayden Deegan, Justin Cooper, Jordan Aweek.
05:59So he knows that speed.
06:01And I think with these young guys, just that confidence to believe.
06:05Just one finish, it could propel you to a whole different level.
06:08So I'm excited to see if he can hold this thing off.
06:11Well, you mentioned that theory in the 450 class where you thought how Deegan gets his 450 career started is
06:16really going to be a fork in the road.
06:18Same theory here?
06:19Yeah, absolutely.
06:20I mean, I feel like this whole 250 class is a reset for all these guys.
06:24And unfortunately for Levi, it's almost a reset of the past.
06:28You know, you're like, man, I'm so fast.
06:30And then he's going to walk away unless a miracle happens with a day that he should have won overall.
06:35But he ends up off the podium and not even close.
06:38So, but back to Cade, Julian, even Seth Hamaker, this can spawn him.
06:45Spawn on to a career and really set them up.
06:49Just one race.
06:49Yep.
06:50And for Bomair, there's certainly no doubts about what he can do coming back from injury.
06:54His career best is a fourth.
06:56He leaves the moto right now.
06:57Here's Dundee in third to see what the drone count.
07:00And Hamaker up ahead would be the overall winner with 2-2 scores.
07:06But only six and a half minutes of this race have taken place yet.
07:13Yeah, it looks really good.
07:15Really clean.
07:18I'm trying to get another view here of that crash.
07:22It was Bozeman battling with Hamaker.
07:25Hamaker got aggressive.
07:27Yeah, I mean, I thought Seth had the pass.
07:30And then he gets in there.
07:31Michael just goes in there.
07:32That berm kind of gets in.
07:33And that line that Seth was on just funnels into Michael.
07:37Just a racing incident.
07:38But unfortunately, Michael, it's a bad situation to be in.
07:42This is another spot right here.
07:45And the big moment of this race, you're going to watch Levi Kitchen go in here.
07:49Runs in the back up.
07:50You see Joe Shimoda.
07:51But for Levi, it just seems like that's the way last year it was.
07:55It's unfortunate for him that second moto starts the same way.
07:58But he's got to keep fighting.
07:59It's kind of funny how that worked.
08:01It wasn't hitting Bozeman.
08:02He came together with Cody Schock.
08:04But maybe that was because Schock was trying to stop to not hit Bozeman.
08:09Then the second time when Kitchen went down was due to Bozeman.
08:13Yeah, it's really easy to happen, especially these opening laps.
08:16They're in a pack.
08:17So you imagine yourself in a crowd of people and somebody in the middle of them just stopped.
08:22You run in the back of it.
08:22Easy to happen.
08:23And, you know, whatever the case was, it's really costly for Levi.
08:27But you see that every race, a pileup on those opening laps.
08:32So Dundee rolling right now in third.
08:35JT.
08:36Yeah, this has to feel good for Caden Dundee because Weege, remember, in Supercross, yes,
08:40he was the rookie of the year.
08:42But ironically, let's say he got pulled for poor performance.
08:46It wasn't actually going the way that Monster Yamaha Star Racing wanted it to.
08:50And they said, hey, let's take some time.
08:52Let's get ready for pro motocross and let's come out swinging there.
08:55And Weege, it's hard to argue with his qualifying performance and the way he's riding right now
09:00that he's not coming out swinging at the opener.
09:02Well, he is.
09:03And, JT, a lot of people are talking about what they saw even with his social media clips
09:07about how fast he was going in the preseason.
09:10But you never know if that's going to mean anything come race day.
09:13But he's making it reality now because he could be on the overall podium.
09:18He's right in the fight for it.
09:19But the rider to watch is actually Davies.
09:22Cole Davies has climbed to fifth, and that would be enough to get him to second overall.
09:27And for Davies, he definitely wants to win this title.
09:32He's showing solid points on maybe not his best day.
09:35Davies just put it together right now.
09:37That's exactly what he did during the Supercross.
09:40And you've got to know, like, he didn't race a lot last year.
09:42So he's only going to get better.
09:44And if he brings that confidence from Supercross, it might end well
09:48because he ended up winning a championship pretty easily over there.
09:50Yeah, remember, Davies didn't start the Supercross season on fire.
09:54It took him round three to get a win.
09:55Here he is at the 37 wheel.
09:58I think a lot of the reason that people didn't really want to have him on their bingo card here
10:02for the outdoor season
10:03is because last year, well, it wasn't good.
10:07But at the same time, he didn't really get a chance to show it.
10:10He only was there for a few rounds at the end.
10:12He was coming off injury.
10:13He talked to me yesterday and said how he wasn't prepared because of that injury,
10:17wasn't able to set the bike up, so they were behind on that.
10:20And he just, you know, he kind of scrambled his way through those last rounds there.
10:24And I think a lot of people think, oh, well, in that case, he's the Supercross guy.
10:27But he reminded me, too, he's from New Zealand.
10:30And he was on motocross just like everybody else kind of growing up.
10:34He said, really, it was only when Bedtownie sort of took him under his wing
10:37and started teaching him the Supercross skills there that that's where he switched over to.
10:42There are very few Supercross tracks in New Zealand where he lives.
10:46And so, he said, I grew up in motokit, so I think it's kind of narrative that that's not where
10:51his skill set is.
10:52He's out to prove all of those people wrong, and he's doing a great job here,
10:55especially if he hangs on to the Supercross second.
10:58Yeah, I agree.
10:59And for the people that don't have him on his bingo card,
11:01I'm sorry to say you probably should stop playing bingo because this guy is that good.
11:06I mean, you can see it.
11:07And really, it just comes out.
11:09These guys get on the track.
11:10They get that momentum.
11:11This is what you're going to get.
11:13And he's trying to challenge Ryder DeFrancisco for fourth.
11:16There's Francesco on the white Rockstar Energy Husqvarna.
11:20Ryder from California.
11:22Definitely rode this track a lot growing up from Bakersfield.
11:26And he's held down fourth.
11:28Give you the running order of that team.
11:30You got Cochran who had a tough first moto back in this one in 18th.
11:34And then Benick, who had a good moto going, they crashed.
11:37Officially credited right now in 38th.
11:39So that's the Rockstar Husky team, which has announced they will not be racing next year as a full factory
11:46outfit.
11:46Now, Husky is looking to perhaps supply some of the factory motorcycle components to another team
11:52if there are some takers out there that want to lease the components.
11:56But the rumor is that some of these young 250 riders will just move over to a KTM 250 factory
12:02team.
12:03So I think that DeFrancisco and Benick are going to be okay and have a home next year.
12:08There are some other riders, like I believe Cochran, who are going to be looking for work.
12:12And it's all about this season to show everybody what they are capable of.
12:16Ryder D riding pretty well right now in fourth.
12:19Yeah, Ryder D had a breakout Supercross season, finished third.
12:23But, yeah, it's a hard spot to be in with all these young guys and even the rookies that,
12:28like there are so many good guys coming up in the amateur program that hold necks and out here
12:33that if you're not performing, it's sad to say, you'll be looking for a rod no matter how talented you
12:37think you are
12:38because the next guy is just as talented and it just continues to go.
12:42Yes, that necks program you mentioned where the amateurs get a chance to race on race day
12:47in their own race on the same track.
12:50You're not seeing nearly as many ups and downs.
12:52Almost everybody is either good or great of these young riders coming through.
12:56We don't really see the complete fuss, as they would say, in other sports.
13:01And that just makes us more crowded at the top.
13:04Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
13:06You'll have the incidents like we all have, but what just Levi, you know, up and downs.
13:11But there's no bust, JT.
13:14James, watching Ryder D Francisco going on.
13:17I had an opportunity to grab Max Anstey up here in the mechanics tower.
13:20Max, not the opening round you wanted.
13:22We saw that huge crash on race day live this morning.
13:25Hold off there early in moto one.
13:27Was that just due to the soreness you were experiencing in that moto?
13:30Are you sure? Yeah, I mean, of course, it could have been way worse.
13:33I'm still, I'm not broken, but yeah, I'm pretty sore and beat up.
13:37I couldn't really breathe when I was riding.
13:40It was the jumbling around.
13:42But hey, it's what it is.
13:43I'm up here studying, watching.
13:45I'll get some physio done this week and I'll be back next week.
13:48The Alpine Star Medical crew, honestly, they did a fantastic job with me and they were like, look, get some
13:53physio done this week.
13:54You're going to be okay.
13:55But I mean, yeah, it was just, they can't really drain it or get any of the blood out of
13:58it.
13:59It's just my, my butt is pretty big at the moment.
14:02So not, not ideal, but hey, could have been worse.
14:05Still, watching my teammates, they're doing well.
14:07Duttony in third and Cole in fifth.
14:10The boys are, yeah, cadence up there.
14:11I tell you what, these boys are ripping.
14:13So good to watch and hopefully I'll be back out there next week fine.
14:16Roger, it's totally okay.
14:17We'll see you at Hangtown.
14:18So let's put a little bit of perspective on what Max is talking about right here.
14:22He had a crash earlier today in practice.
14:25And when he's talking about he's a little sore, check out to the left of your screen right here.
14:29This is Max Duttony.
14:31Anstey, instant stop.
14:33So you want to know how tough these guys are.
14:35He got up, rode off the racetrack, came out and lined up for the first moto.
14:39And it was a tough day for him, but good to see him happy.
14:43Got another moment.
14:44First moto, looking through the traffic a moment ago.
14:50Oh, and stalled it.
14:52Yeah, that's a tough spot to be at.
14:54We saw Nick Romano do the same thing.
14:57There's a big kicker right there.
14:58So they didn't lose too much time, but that was costly for him.
15:02All right, and now Hamaker has caught Boehmer in a battle for the leech.
15:06Shimoda is 11th after the mistake.
15:08So a tough one for him after a good first moto.
15:11A tough one for Kitchen, who is just trying to get into the top 20.
15:16He's 21st right now.
15:17So it could be Hamaker's day, and he's looking to make it a little better as the man in the
15:22green, number 10, looks for the moto win.
15:23Yeah, he looks good.
15:25He's able to close that gap.
15:26And as I mentioned earlier, he probably figured Julian would get out there.
15:30But because he hasn't been racing that race, especially the second moto opening race, he might come back towards him.
15:35And Seth is probably like, okay, so this is what Levi felt like that first moto.
15:40Pass the speed, closing in on the guy.
15:41Looked great.
15:43Halfway through a reminder to stock up a Monster Energy drink at Stater Brothers.
15:48Which way is this going to go?
15:51Hamaker looking for an opening on G2.
15:55Yeah, you saw Seth really charge into that section, and I think he missed his line.
15:59I believe he wanted to get close to him because there was an opportunity to pass another one here.
16:05But Julian did a great job at kind of keeping Seth guessing right there.
16:09But nonetheless, Seth makes that pass.
16:11He's going to close this door.
16:13He's into the lead.
16:14He guessed right.
16:15He guessed it.
16:16He guessed right.
16:18Well, how about this?
16:19Hamaker has never won an overall, has never won a moto, and he might get both today, Will.
16:25A great performance regardless, right, Jason?
16:28But especially considering that we're talking about a guy who's had very little seat time to set up this bike
16:33for pro motocross.
16:34And that was due to the injury that we sort of referenced earlier.
16:37It was a badly torn trapezius.
16:40That's that kind of muscle there in the sort of middle center, sort of upper side of your back of
16:44your shoulder area.
16:45And he said that the rehab that he had to do was basically two weeks long with Doc G, who
16:50we got to speak to earlier there, also Jet Lawrence's physio.
16:54He said he was there every single day, Monday to Friday, for two weeks straight.
16:59Go in there in the morning, three hours of therapy, go get some lunch, come back for two to three
17:03more hours of therapy.
17:04And this is away from home in California, so he couldn't even go home further at this point.
17:08So really committed to getting back here to racing fitness.
17:12And when I said to him, kind of, you know, what toll does that take, he said, didn't really matter.
17:17Because at the end of the day, I need to come here knowing that I have done everything that I
17:20possibly could.
17:21For Seth right now, guys, it is paying off big time.
17:26You know what, that's a pretty wild story.
17:29But at the same time, anyone who knows Seth, the main thing that people say about him is how gritty
17:34and how tough he is.
17:35So it's almost, in a way, not a surprise that whatever was thrown at him, he didn't even notice when
17:41he's out of the racetrack.
17:42No, that's why I was just listening, like, finding this out.
17:45You know, Seth does a great job at keeping the main thing the main thing.
17:48He goes out there and focuses on himself.
17:50Doesn't let all these distractions.
17:51And for most riders, I mean, that would be a gnarly story and an excuse coming in here.
17:56And a legitimate one, but not Seth.
17:59He comes out here and he's fighting.
18:01I think he also probably knew with Julian coming back from injury that he probably wouldn't fight him that much.
18:07But Seth is here and got his best finish that first moto and might top that this second one, winning
18:14this thing and winning overall if he holds on.
18:16Right.
18:17We just saw Ryder, sorry, as this battle is going on, you got Romare, Dudney, DeFrancisco, and Davies.
18:25Just saw Dax Benick ride off, had a crash early in this moto.
18:28He is done at least for this race, but he rode off the motorcycle under his own power.
18:34His bottom box, let's see what Davies can do, how far forward can he go.
18:38He's already second overall, but championship points still on the line with each position.
18:43You got to give a shout out to Cade in third place.
18:46These guys have been here for a few laps now.
18:48And as much as we talk about the Supercross champ and Cole Davies,
18:53he hasn't been able to close the gap on him.
18:55So, and Ryder D is trying to put that pressure.
18:57So, again, as I said, as these laps goes on, just a little bit of belief in these guys.
19:02You'll get a finish like if Cade can hold on.
19:05You'll get rides like this, and it'll only get better.
19:07Next thing you know, he'll be battling it up there with Seth Handmaker for the lead.
19:11And that's a good move for Dugney because the Supercross campaign, as JT mentioned,
19:15did not go as expected.
19:17Davies makes a mistake.
19:19Yeah, loses front end and buries it.
19:21Luckily, he's got a little bit of time.
19:23Now maybe, I think he was getting to the point where I believe he was faster than Ryder D,
19:27but he was so close, he wasn't able to ride his normal line.
19:29So we'll see if he has that pace, if he can close back up with about 10 minutes left.
19:34But still fighting for that podium position.
19:38You can see how the overall podium would turn out on the bottom left of the screen.
19:42It'd be Handmaker, Davies, and Dudley, top three.
19:47Bomara would be fourth overall.
19:48Romano would be fifth.
19:49Romano's best in his career overall is a seventh.
19:52So it's still a great race day for the 141, running sixth right now.
19:57We'll see if Davies can reset the teenager out of New Zealand.
20:01We'll talk to his dad this morning, and really echoing what Will has said in her report.
20:07They are confident that they can do this in motocross just the same as Supercross.
20:11And what he said is, really look at the Supercross races where he's really excelled.
20:16The nastier, the more rutted the track is, the better Cole Davies has done.
20:21So his dad, Wayne, kind of thought this track would be a weakness.
20:23He thinks as we go east, even to Colorado, where that track's pretty rutted,
20:28he thinks Cole will get even better.
20:29Yeah, I mean, he will, but he was right.
20:32I mean, Cole wasn't as good, to me, in my honest opinion, in some of those nasty spot tracks like
20:38Daytona.
20:38He was really rushing it, but what he did was go to work.
20:42And we talked about during the Supercross, like his entrance beat was really low.
20:46He worked on that, and as he did, you could see that growth during the Supercross season
20:49to where he was untouchable.
20:51Nobody in that field was even close to him.
20:53So he will get better.
20:54I think it's more about the hard work of Cole Davies rather than just the track conditions.
20:58He adapts and doesn't usually make the same mistake over and over,
21:03and he definitely won't stay in the same spot.
21:05He's moving forward.
21:08Yeah, I think he's shown enough here to everyone realize, all right, he's going to be in it in motocross
21:13just like he is in Supercross.
21:16And what's wild about this right now is that it would be the first overall podium for all three riders,
21:23Hamaker, Davies, and Dugney.
21:26And to get back to what I was saying about Dugney, you mentioned how fleeting that confidence could be
21:30after those tough Supercross races.
21:33And all be gone if Dugney could hold on for a podium.
21:36Yeah, it will be.
21:37You know, it's maybe not like the pro circuit where you solidify a ride because, you know,
21:42Bobby has a lot of guys up there looking for that opportunity.
21:44But for him, you know, I believe it's a lot.
21:47You see just these little gains as Cole makes another mistake.
21:52It doesn't take much because these guys are so close to where if he finishes this thing off,
21:57don't be surprised a week or two that we're talking about K. Dugney winning his first ever race.
22:02That's how good and close these guys are.
22:04They just got to believe, and this moto might be that step towards that.
22:10Amazing how quickly things can flip in this game.
22:13When you start talking confidence and momentum, Davies Mechanic likes what he sees.
22:18Third in the moto, second overall.
22:20Seth Hamaker trying to bring his first win in pro motocross home.
22:24And by the way, as you watch this battle, another one of the young riders on Monster Yamaha Star Racing,
22:29Caden Meneer, battling with the 43 of Lux Turner, who's been great today.
22:34On the Toyota Redlands Bar-X Yamaha.
22:37By the way, I just want to add that Hamaker is the only non-Yamaha rider to win this year.
22:41He won Daytona, Yamaha won every other Supercross.
22:43Now he's looking to win the motocross.
22:45Look at Lux turning up the heat.
22:47Turned out for what?
22:48He's like, my sister's going to be there in a couple weeks as well.
22:51I've got to show up.
22:52But, you know, this battle right here, I mean, Lux wants that rod that Cade's on.
22:57So there's a lot of pride for these guys.
23:00And I'm sure for, you know, Cade's race is starting to get to the second moto and starting to make
23:05a few mistakes,
23:06but still top ten.
23:07Great, great finish.
23:08You can hold on, JT.
23:09Yeah, I think we each, remember Lux Turner telling us that story about how, you know,
23:14before things turned for him and he really started to make progress, he was having to race part-time.
23:20He'd have to go home, work a part-time job just to make enough money to go chase his dream,
23:25go back to riding for a couple weeks, and then rinse and repeat that cycle over and over and over.
23:31And you watch him now.
23:32He was really turning the corner at Supercross, becoming a top ten, top five guy.
23:36Now he's trying to challenge and move towards the top five at Pro Motocross.
23:40It's just a remarkable story of a guy that wasn't even good enough in this sport to be doing it
23:46full-time.
23:46Look at him now.
23:47Yeah, and as we watch Shimoda challenging Muneer, JT, also, this is no disrespect to that Bar-X Yamaha team,
23:53but in Pro Motocross, having the factory full engine is such a huge advantage.
23:58So when you see Turner well up in the top ten, you know that guy can ride.
24:04There's a great motorcycle, I'm sure, under him, but there are tricks that the top teams have,
24:09and he's taking it right to all those guys.
24:12Shimoda looking to take it to Muneer now.
24:14Yeah, Joe's doing what he did that first moto.
24:16Just unfortunate for him that mistake cost him earlier, but that was a great pass.
24:20He can hold on to it.
24:21He'll be on the outside, so he should have the momentum to get through his corner pretty clean as he
24:26does.
24:26But, yeah, you know, going back to the Yamaha, the better you do, the more parts you get from factory
24:33Yamaha.
24:34In this class, those little bit of parts, you see, you notice that difference on the racetrack.
24:38So the team is getting better, the rotter's getting better, and, yeah, great start for him.
24:44And now it's Romano battling.
24:46Turner's not settling.
24:48He's just moving forward.
24:49He gets Muneer, and now he's going after Romano.
24:52See if he gets the brake square bump right here.
24:55There you go, cut him off, cut him off.
24:56There you go.
24:57Nice pass.
24:58You can see that one coming.
25:00Nick got a little bit of wide.
25:01Lux sensed that.
25:02That was a pass to quarter pass, and, yeah, continued moving his way forward.
25:07Got a chance, Hymas.
25:08You had the in-ear communication with him there.
25:10I'm talking to him right there.
25:11Yeah.
25:12Get the sense out here.
25:14And there's Hymas.
25:15Have not seen much of him today.
25:17He's up ahead in sixth.
25:19But, look, you can't tell the story both ways.
25:22But my mystery story has been you've just got to get points, be consistent, be there.
25:26So he's actually doing that today.
25:28So even though it's not a podium or a race win, is that all right for the 29?
25:32I don't know.
25:33Yeah, I don't know.
25:35This is a battle for third right here.
25:37Router D is closing in.
25:38I don't know.
25:39You can't.
25:40All these results aren't equal.
25:42And I think chance, yes, consistency, health is the number one.
25:47But he's been kind of lost in the mix.
25:49You know, where he kind of started, he's just been here.
25:51But there's really nothing that I believe, from what I've seen, that he can pull out as
25:55this battle is getting really good here, that he can pull out and be like, yeah, I have
25:59the speed or I had this.
26:00I just had this happen.
26:02Bad start.
26:02He's just been kind of stuck there.
26:04So, you know, we'll see.
26:06But he's got to get through it, and we'll see what happens next week after this one.
26:09JT.
26:10And we just, you remember at the top of the show, we were talking about the parity in
26:14this class and the inconsistency in years past that allowed guys like Hayden Deegan and Joe
26:19Shimoda to build these gigantic gaps over everyone else.
26:22Well, look at the way it's shaping up just here today.
26:24Now, Seth Hamaker, now he's doing his thing.
26:2747 points, that's a really respectable score.
26:29That's the type of score the championships are made of.
26:31But look behind him.
26:33It's already a 10-point gap to a guy like Cole Davies.
26:37And you think about the other people that we consider contenders, the Joe Shimodas, the
26:42Levi Kitchens.
26:43It's not that they're necessarily riding poorly, but they're not having a great points day.
26:48So is this going to be the norm?
26:49Is Seth Hamaker going to be super consistent, build up this huge lead?
26:52Or is it going to be this yo-yo effect where a lot of 30-point days and who can
26:57manage the
26:58best of those?
26:59It still really feels like 2025 and prior where inconsistency will reign.
27:05Yeah, I agree with that, Jason.
27:07Go ahead.
27:08No, I agree with that.
27:10And especially for Levi, these guys are still battling right here.
27:14It reminds you of what didn't happen in his whole career pretty much, the last couple
27:18of years.
27:19So for him, he talked about on the podium consistency.
27:23You know, I want to work on stars.
27:25Don't worry about getting the whole shot.
27:26Just be up there.
27:27Well, he did get the best star.
27:28He goes down the first lap and now he's battling for 16th place and his teammate running away.
27:33And that's JT mentioned that points gap.
27:35So it's going to be difficult for him, especially the guy that doesn't nail his stars as Ryder
27:40D turns to scrub.
27:42He was hustling to get Dougie there and he finally got it.
27:45Yeah, you've got a sense here, like Ryder D knows, like if I can get him now, put in
27:49a sprint, then I pretty much have this third place wrapped up in his moto because Cade's
27:54going to start just trying to hold on.
27:56Top five finish for him.
27:58It would be a great day.
27:59All these riders, they know their competition and probably what their mindset is.
28:03So great route by both these guys.
28:06DeFrancisco third in the moto, that would be a career best for him.
28:10I feel like today where we're constantly mentioning career best, maybe that is the effect of Deegan
28:15moving out of the class.
28:18DeFrancisco would, after the tough first moto, but might have been, he was up there on the
28:23first lap of the first moto, then crashed, went all the way back to the last, was just
28:27able to get it inside the points.
28:29A good bounce back for him here.
28:3219th in moto one, and third in moto two.
28:36Yeah, I'm sure he came in this season, you know, whether he said it out in publicly, but
28:40inside, he probably felt like this is a great opportunity for him, especially off of that
28:44Supercross season.
28:45And I know the results haven't been there, but we're stubborn.
28:49You know, he's always had speed, and to have that opportunity and know who you're going
28:53to race against, he's beat everybody in this field straight up and down, so it's not like
28:57he's afraid of anybody, opportunity might be now, that first moto was tough for him, but
29:02great bounce back for him, set him up soon.
29:06We have found Levi Kitchen.
29:08He's into the points, 16th right now, he's got Landon Gordon right in front of him, and
29:12every position he can make from here on out would be one championship point to the good.
29:17He would be down after a day where he was the fastest rider, I would think.
29:22Be down 15 points on Handmaker if it ends like this.
29:24Fifth overall, let's see if he can move up a bit.
29:27Yeah, this is what I want to see from Levi.
29:29Just as I mentioned that first moto with Chance Hyman, that grit, I want to see him get a
29:33bad start, you know, things aren't working out, and just fight your way up.
29:37You know, you look at this motorcycle, it's bent, you know, but he's out there fighting,
29:41and if he can somewhere get up, maybe close to the top 10 or just top 15, it'd be a
29:46disappointing
29:47day for him.
29:48But I think overall it'd be good for him in the championship, JT.
29:51Yeah, and you see that rider there, 872, that's Matisse Bois-Romey.
29:55Now, he's an MXGP regular.
29:57He's actually a French national champion as well, but he's over here kind of making a
30:01wild-card appearance.
30:02We'll see how many races he ends up at this summer.
30:05But this is a rider who has a lot of experience.
30:07He was actually on the Factory Kawasaki MXGP team at one time.
30:10So it's interesting to see him up here battling with the likes of Landon Gordon, guys that
30:15are much, much younger than him.
30:16He has a ton of experience.
30:17But yeah, just another aspect of this, you know, SMX World Championship we always talk
30:22about.
30:23Yeah, when I saw 27 years old on the graphic, I would have thought he was north of 30, because
30:28it does feel like he's been racing overseas for a long, long time.
30:32Good to see him out here and representing well on the KTM Bois-Romey.
30:36Okay, now if this ends like this and Hamaker wins the race, he'll also be the points leader.
30:42And I cannot believe this one.
30:44That team has not led the points since Adam C. Cirullo won the title in 2019.
30:50Oh, what's happening here?
30:51Lux Turner just not giving up.
30:54He has now caught Cole Davies for six.
30:58This guy doesn't get tired.
30:59Yeah, no, Lux doesn't.
31:01Yeah, that is a strange stat.
31:03But I guess he's been having, you know, Mitch, he's been having a hard time finding his
31:06rotter, so, you know, he's about to step up in the lead, but we found this one.
31:10We found this one out front.
31:12But, yeah, Lux Turner, you can see it coming in his body language compared to Cole Davies.
31:18Lux is on the move.
31:19Cole seems like he's struggling with two laps to go, but this guy isn't.
31:23No way.
31:25I think he just needed to show, kind of like a Davies light, that he can do it in motocross.
31:30He hasn't had disastrous results in motocross, but no podiums.
31:33A couple of fourths for Hamaker last year.
31:37Kitchen.
31:39Now, wait a minute.
31:40He is getting close to the podium here.
31:42He's made a couple moves.
31:43Now he's going after Derek Kelly on the MX-6 Kawasaki.
31:47And look at the podium map there.
31:50He is one point off of Dudney.
31:53He just made up that point.
31:55They'd be tied.
31:55Now, Dudney has the tiebreaker with the better second moto.
31:59Kitchen needs one more spot, and he will somehow have salvaged third overall.
32:04This is it.
32:05You know, he's got two laps.
32:06This mechanic is going to tell him.
32:08And he's got what, let me see, map, this is my strongest suit, about six seconds to Bolin, it seems
32:15like, in front of him.
32:16Good job.
32:17This is, yeah, I made it.
32:19You did it.
32:19Five out of four people, baby.
32:23Six seconds is going to be a lot to make up in two laps, but what a dig from Kitchen.
32:29Get some clean laps, and, yeah, I think this is a very impressive ride by him.
32:34This is, again, what we want to see.
32:36It'd be disappointing, but with a bent motorcycle and how the day was, great start.
32:43Now, what could also happen is Hymus, we said how quiet he is.
32:46He's at the bottom of the screen here on the Honda HRC number 29.
32:50If he passes Dudney, that would also give the podium to Kitchen.
32:55Yeah, it's actually a great moto by chance.
32:58He's made a lot of passes.
32:59They both of those guys got around, well, they're ahead of Cole Davies, so he can get him.
33:03I thought I was saying, that championship mentality and just that grit, just that chance Hymus,
33:09and it'd go a long ways for him if he can get around Dudney right here.
33:14Now, we're saying it's going to be tough for Kitchen to make up six seconds in two laps,
33:18but guess what?
33:19He just went three seconds faster than Max Follin the last time around,
33:23so he can replicate that and make the pass.
33:25He could salvage the podium.
33:27I don't know if Havaker cares about any of this.
33:30He's headed to the win, and I don't know if Hymus really cares that he's affecting the podium.
33:35He's just riding for himself here.
33:37Yeah, all these battles right here is about your mindset going into next week and the next weekend,
33:43so these are the little battles.
33:44So it might not be a win, but this could be a win for them to all be like,
33:48oh, we're close, good second ride, good second moto.
33:51Just build, work on the bike, and then come out next week.
33:56Let's see what they're saying in the Kawasaki pit, Will.
33:59I was curious.
34:00I just came over here to his mechanic just to see what they were writing there,
34:03to let him know, to see how aware Levi was that he was that close to that third spot,
34:07and he's just written on the pit board that he had one spot for third,
34:10so they want him to keep pushing him down.
34:12Levi's putting the work in anyway, but they just want to let him know where he's at.
34:16I'm just going to tell everybody why.
34:17The team's pay bonuses for podiums, generally around, say, the $20,000 mark for a third overall in the 250
34:24class,
34:25give or take, so that's a reason to go for it.
34:27In the next minute to two, he can make himself $20,000 if he can dig deep.
34:34Yeah.
34:35And there's that stat I was talking about.
34:37The last time this team, one of the best ever in the history of the sport,
34:41has led the points in this class, was 2019 when our man Adam C. Cirulo won the opener,
34:49led the points all year, won the title.
34:51Steph Hamaker is looking to carry the red plate into round two at Hightower.
34:56What a great ride.
34:57I mean, overall, the whole Pro Circuit squad has been awesome today.
35:01I mean, their bikes look good.
35:03Levi looked great earlier that first motor ride, great.
35:06The second moto.
35:07Steph has gotten better as well.
35:09Nick Morano, like, I mean, it looks good.
35:11So just hope they can continue this thing.
35:14But so proud of Steph and happy for him.
35:16This guy is a beast, man.
35:18I've seen him take some hits.
35:20And he keeps fighting just like this battle for fifth place.
35:23Do you think Chance knows that this is possibly a podium as well?
35:27I don't think he cares.
35:28He's doing the best he can.
35:29And you already know what Chance is going to say.
35:31He's going to take the positive.
35:33Forget the first 48 minutes he rode today.
35:36He's going to be thinking about these last couple laps where he's looking a lot better.
35:40Oh, he changed my mind.
35:41Oh, no, no, no.
35:42Totally.
35:43I picked up on that.
35:44All of a sudden, you're like, eh, not anymore.
35:46Yeah, I'm very fickle.
35:47Chance, this is great.
35:48This is what I needed to get out of here.
35:50Exactly.
35:50We finally saw it.
35:53And just as he got close to Dundee, a couple of mistakes, Dundee pulls it back out.
35:58It's the last lap.
35:58Podium on the line.
35:59The win is already decided.
36:01It's going to be Seth Hamaker, the only non-Yamaha rider to win in Supercross.
36:06He's going to do it again in motocross.
36:08Congratulations, Seth Hamaker.
36:09You're a winner outdoors.
36:12Great job, Seth.
36:13And a great job by Julian Vermeer.
36:16Only five seconds behind him.
36:18Great second moto.
36:20Coming off injury, you can see how much that means for Seth.
36:24And we're waiting.
36:25Here's Joe battling.
36:27The indefatigable Lux Turner right to the line.
36:31Turner is sixth on the Bar-X Yamaha.
36:35What a ride for the young man from Reno.
36:38And there's Seth and his mom, Sally.
36:40He got it done.
36:42Great job, Seth.
36:43Great job.
36:44Joe Shimoda is becoming the Mike Larocco.
36:46You know, when you turn around and you see that third, you just know he's always going to be there.
36:51Great fight for all these guys.
36:52Great rides.
36:53So much emotion.
36:54First win for Hamaker.
36:55You see Bommere how pumped he is.
36:57With the great comeback ride.
36:59Hitchin.
36:59We're still going to wait to see how the podium turns out here.
37:05Yeah, I'm looking at the lap time.
37:07It's going to be.
37:07He was only within.
37:09He was within the second.
37:10Levi.
37:11At the moment, it is a three-rider tie for second, third, and fourth.
37:16Tiebreaker would go to Dougney Davies and then Kitchen in that order.
37:20He didn't get it.
37:21He did not.
37:23Nice dig for Voland to hold off Kitchen at the end.
37:29So it's going to be Davies.
37:33Third overall.
37:35Second overall is going to go to Hayden.
37:37Dougney.
37:38Wow.
37:38So many stories to unpack.
37:40As we expected.
37:42Hamaker's happy.
37:43Bommere's happy with the great moto.
37:45Dougney's on the...
