00:00It's the dangerous one, Daryl Ryder. Hello, Daryl.
00:02Hello, boys. Good morning.
00:04Daryl, are we not making a big enough deal about this game on Sunday, Lime, and I?
00:09Um...
00:10Let me explain it to you here, in case, because I, you know, I don't...
00:13You have to keep late hours. I can't expect you to listen to every single segment, for crying out loud.
00:17Like, I've been very like, hey, if we win, great. I'm going to go nuts, and I'm going to go
00:22nuts.
00:22We're going to do chants, and Super Bowl, Super Browns, and the whole deal.
00:26Right.
00:26If they lose, I'm like, nah, they're 5-3, they get another opportunity coming up against New Orleans the week
00:30afterwards.
00:31And apparently, according to some people around these parts in this building, I'm just not making a big enough damn
00:37deal to everybody.
00:38Well, I mean, the season isn't over if they lose this game on Sunday.
00:42Exactly.
00:44But also, too, I kind of feel like this is their best shot to pick the Steelers off in Pittsburgh
00:50in a while.
00:54So, and look, I think a win would mean more to the Browns than the Steelers.
01:00Also, let's be honest about that.
01:03But no, I think you're approaching the game with a level-headed thought process, and I can't believe those words
01:12just came out of my mouth.
01:13Because to make the biggest damn deal of this, it's like there's no Monday morning if they lose on Sunday.
01:19And I'm going, yeah, like, I'm sorry, I'm just not moved emotionally like I have been in the past.
01:26And I think Owen hit it out of the park.
01:28I'm glad he brought it up on the air because he said it before the show, Daryl, where it's like,
01:31man, if we were 1-6, I'd probably be losing my mind going, we got to get this game.
01:36We got to get this game.
01:37You know, this is our Super Bowl.
01:38We ain't going anywhere.
01:39We got to do it.
01:39And I'm like, nah, I'm looking at the playoffs here.
01:43I'm playing the long game.
01:44You're playing three straight road games.
01:46So it's like, hey, if I come out of a three-game stretch on the road, two out of three,
01:51I'm fine.
01:52And I got to tell you, like, I think people would be more disappointed for a team that you got
01:58to win games.
01:58I know, like, everybody wants to beat Pittsburgh.
02:00But in the grand scheme of things, wouldn't you be more disappointed if you went down to New Orleans and
02:03lost after you beat Pittsburgh than the other way around?
02:06Yeah, I, you know, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the Browns haven't
02:12swept the season series since 1988.
02:15They haven't won in Pittsburgh during the regular season with a full house if, you know, since 2003.
02:25So I think that it's that component, Ken, the fact that the Browns just seem to always go to Pittsburgh
02:32and lose, that's hovering over fans right now.
02:35They'd like that streak to go bye-bye and be put behind them.
02:39Now, I think Todd Munkin's doing a real good job this week with the messaging to his players.
02:44Nobody really seems to be focused on it.
02:46They're cranking up Renegade right out of the gate to start practice every day now.
02:51You know, outside of Jared Verse yesterday, really not much in the way of interesting things coming out of the
02:58Browns locker room.
03:00They're treating this like every other week.
03:03And I don't mean that to come off as a bad thing because that's what winning teams do.
03:10It's the next game on the schedule.
03:13Yeah, they know it's important to Browns fans.
03:15They know the history.
03:17They know that the, you know, the streaks and all those things, but they're not focused on it.
03:22It's not the center of their attention this week.
03:24Beating the Steelers and what they have to do and the preparation that goes into beating the Steelers, that's what's
03:31on their minds right now.
03:32Also, too, maybe some of the extracurricular things that they felt happened in week four also on their minds.
03:39And that, too, is the right approach.
03:42But, I mean, look, the fans are going to build this thing up.
03:44They should build it up.
03:45That's what being a fan is about.
03:47But the reality is the season isn't over if they lose this game on Sunday.
03:51And, you know, their chances of making the playoffs are, in my view, equally as good.
03:57There you go.
03:58Dale, you ready to do some politically incorrect radio?
04:01You ready for that?
04:02Oh, great.
04:02Okay, what you got?
04:03What you got, Bill Maher?
04:04So that's what I'm here for.
04:05So you just went over how the players talked about how they didn't like some of the extracurriculars in Pittsburgh
04:13this week.
04:13I know they're not going to say it publicly.
04:15You think there might be some headhunting, some cheap shots returned come Sunday in Pittsburgh?
04:21And do you think the fans will love every minute of that?
04:24No, I don't.
04:25You don't think they will?
04:26Well, no, I do think that they will try and make the legal hits hurt a little harder or hit
04:34a little harder.
04:35But here's the thing.
04:37You have to be very careful about that stuff, Anthony.
04:40The second guy usually gets caught, right?
04:43And you don't want to do anything to hurt yourself and limit your chances of winning the game by doing
04:50stupid things after the whistle.
04:53But that doesn't mean that Jared Verse isn't looking to hit Aaron Rodgers a little extra hard during a play
05:02or somebody else, an offensive lineman or whatever.
05:06That's just the nature of the beast.
05:08But no, I don't think that there's going to be any type of headhunting, score settling, anything like that.
05:16I think it's going to be they're going to they're going to try and be extra physical within the boundaries
05:21of the rules of the game.
05:24And, you know, the ultimate card to play is the final score, right?
05:29If they lose or they win in Pittsburgh, that's the ultimate, you know, statement being made there.
05:40You know, if you do some stuff after the whistle and you lose the game, well, what did you really
05:45accomplish?
05:49Daryl, wait a minute.
05:51Did you ask him about Jared Verse?
05:52We were going to get to it.
05:53Okay.
05:54I'm sorry, because I wrote it down.
05:56I go, did Lyman just ask about Jared Verse?
05:57I'm sorry.
05:57Did Jared Verse, does he write checks now based on his comments that he has to cash on Sunday?
06:06Yeah, he's got to cash this one on Sunday.
06:08I think he's yeah, I think we need to see a little something extra from him in the way of,
06:15I don't know, maybe his first sack is Aaron Rodgers.
06:17That would be nice, right?
06:18Or a forced fumble or a tackle for loss in a very big situation.
06:24And that's not to say that he's not contributed.
06:27Because he has Mike Rutenberg, you know, continues to make that clear in his weekly press conferences.
06:34But I think, you know, we're all waiting for the big splash play that he gets credit for from him.
06:42And I think Sunday would be a good opportunity for that, considering what he had to say yesterday, which, by
06:46the way, I'm going to be very clear.
06:48I had no problem whatsoever with anything he had to say.
06:52Well, I had no problem with what he had to say because he can go out there and actually back
06:55it up.
06:56See, I had a problem earlier this week when some people were going after Todd Munkin for not kind of
07:00getting people into a lather.
07:01And I go, he's the head coach.
07:04He can put a good idea together, but he really doesn't have much power by the time they kick off.
07:09So I don't want to put my young football team in a position to have to back up my words.
07:15The last Browns head coach to get people worked up into a lather was Freddie Kitchens.
07:20How did that work out?
07:21Terribly.
07:21Absolutely terribly.
07:22And it was the real beginning.
07:23I mean, he had a t-shirt and everything.
07:24So when I see all that, I'm like, hey, we can't be crazy like this.
07:29This is silly.
07:29But Jared Verse will be out there on the field.
07:31He'll have an opportunity to back it up.
07:33If he wants to go and say things and make comments, damn it, he's more than welcome to go do
07:39it.
07:39He better back it up because I did say to Lima, like, I won't win the game.
07:45That's fine.
07:45But if they lose the game and then, you know, I think some people, I'm promising to be measured.
07:53We'll see if I am.
07:54I think I will be.
07:55But there's a lot of people who won't be.
07:57And if they lose that game and they look in the box score and they see that, well, where was
08:01number eight today?
08:01And I don't see any sacks.
08:03I bet we're going to get some calls on Monday pretty upset with Jared.
08:06Yeah, probably.
08:09And, you know, if they lose on Sunday, it's OK.
08:12Well, what else is new?
08:12The Browns went to Pittsburgh and lost the game.
08:14OK, now we can all just move on with our lives, right?
08:17And if they win, well, Monday is going to be a very fun day for you guys and Browns fans
08:23around the city of Cleveland.
08:24No doubt about it.
08:25But, yeah, I think that everybody's waiting for Jared Verse to make that big splash play that we've not seen
08:34him make yet.
08:35He's helping his teammates make some plays.
08:39There's no question about that.
08:40But we're waiting for him to do something individually.
08:45And I would just caution some folks that when you get into the individual stuff, you can lose picture of
08:53the team aspect of things.
08:56And you certainly don't want Jared Verse doing that.
09:00Darryl Ryder joining us on the show.
09:01What were you going to say?
09:02Can I bring a text to life, Darryl, for the sake of this discussion?
09:05Bring it.
09:06Between the two of us.
09:07Yes.
09:08Responsible professional broadcasters.
09:10Buddy just texted me and said, I'm fully expecting this to be the three interception game from Deshaun Watson on
09:15the road in Pittsburgh.
09:17Are we past that?
09:18Or is that still fair to wonder when that other shoe is going to drop with Deshaun?
09:23No, I think it's fair.
09:24It's been seven games.
09:26And in those seven games, there have been close calls within it.
09:30Clearly, you can't give Aaron Rodgers extra possessions.
09:33He's on a heater since week three.
09:36He's got, I think, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions since week three.
09:41And I want to say five games with multiple touchdowns, including a bunch with three.
09:48You know, the Thursday night or against the Browns, Rodgers had three touchdowns.
09:52So, yeah, Rodgers has been on a heater.
09:54You can't give him extra possessions.
09:56And, yes, Deshaun Watson's coming off what I would say is one of his best games as the starting quarterback
10:03of the Browns.
10:04It's over 300 yards passing.
10:06I don't hold the interception against him.
10:08That was a mistake that Denzel Boston made.
10:11That wasn't on Deshaun, in my view.
10:14But, yeah, I mean, you want to see some consistency, some longevity with this from Deshaun.
10:21And I still feel like, even though, yeah, he's played above my expectations, I still feel like there's an element
10:27of keep proving it for everybody.
10:31So, you know, I'm not going into the game thinking he's going to throw three picks like your friend or
10:36worrying that he's going to throw three picks like your friend.
10:39But let's also be very honest about it.
10:41He very much is capable of doing that, unfortunately, in the game as well.
10:48Daryl, if they went on Sunday, are we buyers in the trade market?
10:52I don't know if they have to be buyers, to be honest with you, Ken.
10:56Could they be?
10:57Let me turn it on you real quick.
10:59Well, you're going to bring up Jerry Judy, aren't you?
11:02No.
11:03I wasn't.
11:04I was actually going to bring up somebody else.
11:05Oh, well, go ahead.
11:06I'm sorry for cutting you off.
11:08I want Lyman to bring it up because I don't want to get a bunch of nasty tweets over the
11:12weekend.
11:13Does he happen to play quarterback?
11:14Well, Lyman said that Dylan Gabriel has taken away second team reps from Shador Sanders.
11:20Do you believe that to be true?
11:21Well, I can only go based on what I have seen during the open portion of practice.
11:28And I'll grant you, we don't get to see much in practice.
11:31Shador Sanders, it's been Deshaun Watson and Shador Sanders next to each other
11:35taking those individual positional reps while we are out there on the field.
11:40I can't speak to, you know, when we leave.
11:43I have not heard that Dylan Gabriel has taken over those reps.
11:48So, I think that, let's put it this way.
11:54If they traded Shador, I would not be shocked.
11:58I'm not saying it's going to happen.
11:59It just wouldn't shock me.
12:01It wouldn't be one of those, I can't believe that just happened type of moment.
12:05It's not going to be like the Miles Garrett trade where like, oh, they did what?
12:09Excuse me.
12:09They did what?
12:10And they traded him to who?
12:11And what did they get in return?
12:13It's not going to be one of those.
12:14And kind of, I think the same thing with Jerry Judy as well.
12:17Do I think that they need to trade Judy?
12:19No.
12:20But I do think they need to trade one of these quarterbacks.
12:24I just, I think carrying four quarterbacks from now until the rest of the season is a little bonkers.
12:29I agree with you on that totally.
12:31But like, what I'm saying is, is like, if what Lymus is getting texts on is true, and
12:35Dylan Gabriel is taking away second team reps, well, you know, I didn't make Shador Sanders
12:40go get an agent.
12:41Is there a possibility to any of that?
12:43Or is that just a bit too far?
12:47Well, because you just said you trade one of them and it's like, well, no, I know.
12:50And look, I, you know, I mean, Shador lost the quarterback competition to Deshaun Watson,
12:58right?
12:58So obviously the organization, Todd Munkin included, did not feel he was, he was ready
13:04or qualified to be the starting quarterback of this football team, right?
13:08And in its human nature, Shador felt a certain way about that.
13:13And, and so, you know, I'm not going to sit here and say that's specifically why Shador
13:18Sanders hired an agent to work his way out of Cleveland.
13:20But I mean, look, the timing of it, the fact that he's well over a year away from any type
13:26of a contract extension as a rookie, the fact that he didn't have an agent going into the
13:31draft, right?
13:31I mean, so I get why people are trying to connect the dots here.
13:36I'm not going to push back on any of that.
13:39Again, that's why I said it's not going to shock me if Shador Sanders does get traded.
13:45I'm not saying it's happening.
13:46It just wouldn't surprise me.
13:47Oh boy.
13:48Would that, would that simply just be a value proposition or do you think there's something
13:53bigger there if that were the case?
13:54Well, I mean, you, you, you trade a player, Anthony, that you're, you're saying that that
13:59player doesn't have a future with you and you, you know, I mean, they've invested, they've,
14:03they invested seven games in them last year.
14:05Yeah.
14:05They let him compete for, or he earned the right to compete.
14:08Did they, did they, did they really invest in him last year?
14:11Who?
14:12Shador.
14:12Let's be honest about it.
14:13Like they kind of threw him into the fire last year.
14:17Like I, I, you know, them winning those last, those, them winning those last two games really
14:22threw a wrench into the, the plans a little bit, you know, like I think they were hoping
14:28to have a little higher draft pick.
14:29Although I think Andrew Barry did a hell of a job with what they ended up with.
14:33But like, I, I'm not going to sit here and be like, oh yeah, the Browns really invested
14:39in Shador Sanders last year.
14:40He was throwing the ball boys in training camp.
14:43Okay.
14:44Like this year.
14:45Yes.
14:46He, he legitimately competed for the starting job.
14:49He got first team reps all through the off season, as well as in training camp, just
14:53like Deshaun Watson.
14:55I felt he got a fair shake in that competition, but I am not going to sit here and say
14:59they
15:00invested anything into him last year.
15:03Daryl.
15:04Thank you very much.
15:05You have a wonderful weekend and we'll talk to you on Monday.
15:08I really hope you come dressed as dusty roads.
15:10Me too.
15:11Ken.
15:11Me too.
15:12I really want to see that.
15:14Yeah.
15:14I've ruined this whole thing today.
15:15I messed up.
15:16I, I got to the end of this.
15:17I got not to the industry, I got to the end of town and I went up and I went,
15:21well, it's
15:22going to take me too long.
15:22I'm going in.
15:23I didn't dress up either today, Ken.
15:25So don't feel bad.
15:26But I love Halloween.
15:27You're, you're afraid of cat.
15:28You don't like Halloween.
15:29I love, no, I love Halloween.
15:31Oh, nevermind then.
15:32Yeah.
15:32The candy bowl is ready to go for a trick or treat tomorrow.
15:35Oh, wonderful.
15:36Daryl.
15:38All right.
15:39I may, I may or may not have done some taste testing this week.
15:43Daryl, was he, are you giving out full size or, or, or, or fun size?
15:47Uh, well, I'm giving out fun size, but I'm not doing the only take one.
15:50Like I'm, I'm, you get four pieces of candy.
15:52Look at Daryl's.
15:53What?
15:53He's like, he's such a nice guy.
15:55He's such a nice guy.
15:56Daryl.
15:57You bet guys.
15:58Have a great weekend.
15:58You too.
15:59You want to give out your address, Daryl?
16:00So we know where to go.
16:01No, we're not going to do that.
16:02No, no, no.
16:04I'll do it for him after we get him off the air.
16:06That was Daryl Ryder.
16:07He's fabulous.
16:09Nathan Zagura going to join us at nine.
16:11Coming up in five minutes.
16:13The standard is the standard until you have to change it.
16:15Talking about Sunday.
16:16And if you could go to the game, could you be getting some cheap seats for a cheap shot or
16:21two?
16:22Ken Carman, Anthony Lima, live on the fan.
