00:00...move in.
00:01...tou late now.
00:02...Rivs are up.
00:05...Gates down.
00:09...Prado on the inside.
00:12...Jip from the middle.
00:14...Side by side.
00:15...Prado on the whole shot.
00:17...Great start by all three of these guys.
00:19...Hunter Lawrence is going to slide up
00:21...past his brother, Jeff Lawrence.
00:24...Oh, Prado's fighting him for it.
00:29...Hunter on the outside.
00:31...Prado locks it down.
00:33...Hunter understands.
00:34It's got to be in front.
00:35At least they're number 18.
00:36Is that hey, Deegan?
00:38That is Deegan.
00:39And not quick to get back on the motorcycle.
00:42Is it torn up?
00:43And now we hear Plessinger was down in that as well.
00:47Yeah, that actually looks like that's the first corner.
00:49Oh, no!
00:52Plessinger getting help
00:53to get off the racetrack.
00:55Oh, man.
00:57Jet Lawrence makes the pass.
00:58Back past his brother, Hunter Lawrence.
01:00Maybe not.
01:01Now I got it, James.
01:02You're right.
01:03That was close.
01:04And that has been the story of the season for AP.
01:07Every time it looks like he's starting to trend
01:09in the right direction.
01:10Something goes wrong.
01:11Hope it's not too serious.
01:13Deegan now back on the bike.
01:16It's like Deegan was trying to figure out his bike.
01:18Maybe handlebars, but good to see him back up.
01:22But the story, Jet Lawrence makes a pass back up past his brother.
01:28Very important going back to these two
01:30because these two have been close all year long.
01:32We've seen Hunter being stuck behind him
01:35when he's been close to Jet and vice versa.
01:37So pretty important pass by the number one.
01:41But you want to see what Prado can do from the front.
01:43His starts have been good this year,
01:44but the Lawrences have had that track position.
01:47This is Jorge Prado's specialty.
01:49I talked to him yesterday,
01:51and he said one of the main things he's learning
01:53now that he's back to being a front runner,
01:55it was a tough season in America last year.
01:58He said, man, I'm not used to tracks
02:00that have different lines on lap one.
02:01I stick to one line, they go by me,
02:03and I'm like, where did they find that?
02:04Now he's got the track position he wants, JT.
02:07Yeah, and I think this is a really important race,
02:10big picture for Jorge Prado,
02:11because like you said, Jason, this is what he does well.
02:13He races well from the front.
02:15We just simply haven't seen him at the front all season.
02:18The closest was the opener,
02:20and he was really in the rearview mirror
02:22of Hunter Lawrence all day.
02:23I want to see what he can do with this.
02:25And remember, he got a hole shot at this very race
02:27a year ago and led for quite a while.
02:29But when you're thinking about where do we go from here
02:32for Jorge Prado right now, right here is a big moment.
02:35Yeah, I agree with that.
02:36And for him to be able to find that confidence
02:39and start believing,
02:40because it's been a few races since he's been out front,
02:43this track's going to help him.
02:44We know how difficult it is to have,
02:46so maybe he can have that time because of the track.
02:48It's going to be harder for those guys
02:49to really work their way around.
02:50We know what Jorge can do when he's still incompetent.
02:56Yeah, so James, if Jorge's telling me
02:58that he's got to get used to how multi-line these tracks are
03:01and look around a little more,
03:02if it's muddier, a little more one-line today,
03:04does that take that adjustment out
03:07where he can just go where he thinks it's already fast?
03:09Yeah, you don't have to look around
03:10because there's only really two lines.
03:12But right now, I think what he's going to find out
03:15is that, again, these guys will figure out
03:17how to continue to do that and make the passes.
03:21So Jorge has to continue working on that.
03:23Yeah, he said, he'll see Hunter go outside
03:25and say, what are you doing out there?
03:27And the next thing you know,
03:28Hunter gains ground on him, pulls away.
03:30So that's what Prado's adjusting to.
03:32Looking good right now.
03:37Looks like Jet has locked in this second-place spot
03:39for the moment over Hunter.
03:41And now we have the replay of the start,
03:44trying to figure out what happened
03:45to Deegan and Plessinger.
03:47Yeah, you're going to see these guys in the middle.
03:50Pretty good start here.
03:51AP's going to be up there now.
03:54Aaron Plessinger loses the front end
03:56and then you're going to see Hayden Deegan come in
03:58and get hit with him, get caught up in here.
04:01So unfortunately, when you're up front, you go down.
04:03It's easy for everybody else to get collected
04:05and unfortunately for Aaron Plessinger,
04:08he's getting the worst end of that deal.
04:10Katie?
04:10Yeah, bad deal for him.
04:11And also Hayden Deegan and just talking to Brent Duffy,
04:14and he said that his steering is crooked,
04:15the lever is knocked down.
04:17As Hayden Deegan just went by the mechanics area,
04:19the team was rally-tow-hulling him.
04:22You know what I mean?
04:23Their towels were spinning around for him.
04:24There was no pit board.
04:25It just was trying to get him up and going again.
04:28And Katie's 35th right now.
04:30I would presume he was 39th.
04:33Certainly Plessinger, who didn't even get back in the race,
04:35wasn't ahead of him, but probably everybody else was.
04:37So Deegan, a long way to go.
04:40It's like Jett Lawrence closing a bit on Prado.
04:43Yeah, there's certain parts of this track where Jorge kind of gets away
04:46and then Jetta close up.
04:48So just like we saw in that 250 class,
04:51you got to pick your spots.
04:52And I'm sure Jett, they've been watching the broadcast
04:55while they were getting ready,
04:56so they have an idea of where their passing opportunities is.
04:58And also, Jorge's very good at defending his position, too.
05:04So Jorge's not the easiest guy to get around.
05:06Jett knows he has people playing this and pass out.
05:13And this is a battle I think a lot of people around the world wanted to see.
05:17Jett Lawrence, two-time champion here of this 450 motocross class.
05:22Don't want to see Jett dragging that right foot.
05:24That's the one that was injured coming into the season.
05:25And then Prado, two-time champion, 450s there at MXGP.
05:30But it was a rough season for Prado last year with Kawasaki.
05:34This is the type of battle people around the world have been anticipating for years.
05:39Prado, much better this year and ready to do battle with the number one.
05:43Yeah, I'm excited to see what Jorge does here
05:46because every lap that he leads,
05:48he's just going to start falling back into what he's done in the past.
05:51And that's winning championships, being able to compete for this lead.
05:54So every lap that he goes, it'll be better for him.
05:57But at the same time, with Jett Lawrence, he understands.
06:00You saw him take a look back at his brother, see where he's at.
06:03And if I'm Jett Lawrence, I'm probably feeling pretty good at the moment.
06:14Ah, he just loved the crowd when they come through that sand roller section.
06:17And now until the Rock goes leap.
06:19Will anyone get it?
06:27Jorge's got it.
06:28Jett as well.
06:29And Hunter.
06:31Such a good feeling.
06:34Great opportunity for these guys to get a little breather too as well over that jump, JT.
06:39Yes, I just want to touch on something you said there and offer a counter opinion.
06:43You said, hey, you don't want to see him dragging that right foot because that's the injury one.
06:47I don't know about that because if you remember the opening rounds,
06:51he was so protective of that foot.
06:53Like, he would do anything but put it in harm's way.
06:56For him to subconsciously be willing to put it out there and use it, you know,
07:00as a rudder to try to help him go faster, to me it almost signals that he's not thinking about
07:05the foot anymore.
07:06And it's almost kind of back to the way, however he needs to go fast,
07:10his body's kind of allowing him to do that.
07:12You know, it's a fair point and I'll try to take that one step further.
07:15It could be totally wrong here.
07:16We saw a couple crashes, one at high point qualifying and one earlier today
07:20where he did go down on the right side and got up no problem.
07:24So maybe he's moving on from that.
07:26He's got one focus right now and that's to take the lead from Prado.
07:30Yeah, it's going to be close.
07:31Now he's in that same spot where he was able to make that mistake.
07:35And that's just the champion right there.
07:37He almost loses a foot the lap before and then comes back the next lap and makes a pass.
07:42and I believe he was setting that up.
07:43He knows where the passing opportunities is and that was one of them.
07:47Jett Lawrence is out front.
07:48Let's see what he can do with it.
07:51Checkbox to JT.
07:52No problem in that section for Jett Lawrence.
07:54Prado going to fight back though.
07:56Yeah, Jorge knew he couldn't make the pass.
07:58What he was trying to do was scare Jett and let him know.
08:00And I think this is a good thing, except for that part.
08:03I don't want Jorge looking back.
08:04But this is what I wanted to see, that fight.
08:07Because sometimes in the past when he would get in a position,
08:10as you see Jett Lawrence get in the way,
08:11he didn't have that fight.
08:13And I'm sure that's easier said than done.
08:16But he has to continue just staying there with these guys.
08:19Otherwise, he's going to have a problem with the 96 passing as well.
08:28So behind that lead trio, we've got Hampshire fourth, Barsha fifth.
08:32Well done for him.
08:33Coming back from a back injury.
08:35Webb sixth.
08:36And then this fight, it's Marchbanks.
08:40Webb right in front of him.
08:41Marchbanks in the middle in green in the Kawasaki.
08:43And then Dylan Ferrandez.
08:46Yeah, Gary's been riding really good these last few races.
08:50And you can tell them they're making that bike better to where it's showing on a racetrack.
08:54He feels more confident.
08:55Oh, that's Barsha down.
08:58Yeah, I heard the revs, but that's normal with Marsha.
09:01So I didn't really think too much.
09:03But you know what?
09:06We might see the first example.
09:08I think his chest protector, the inflatable chest protector,
09:11a lot of these rider jeans might be popped out there.
09:13That's for safety reasons.
09:15So not a problem.
09:16Oh, that's the way it's supposed to function.
09:20Man, wasted a good start there for Marsha.
09:22Have not seen him up front much in motocross.
09:24It has been stops and starts for him.
09:28After Marsha missed high point with the back injury,
09:31jammed it at Lakewood.
09:34As for Marchbanks, like you were saying,
09:35he's been riding very well on this monster Kawasaki.
09:38And it just continues.
09:40They also get around Webb right there.
09:43Yeah, we're just looking, trying to look at the position.
09:45Actually, yeah, Marchbanks got both these guys.
09:47So Lee Cooper got held up with the other one.
09:50But now he's got about seven seconds, eight seconds up to RJ.
09:56That's in front of him, doing a great job.
09:58But then you got Jet Lawrence on the bottom box here,
10:01starting to pull away from these guys.
10:03And we know what he does when he's out front, JT.
10:05Wow, he's doing exactly that.
10:07James, I just want to ask you, listen,
10:08you've been in these kind of psychological back and forth
10:11with guys like Ricky Carmichael and Chadwick,
10:13the best to ever do it.
10:14How important do you think it is here for Jet
10:17to kind of reestablish that he's the guy here,
10:20going out, if he can go on to win this moto
10:23in kind of a dominant fashion?
10:24Yeah, it is.
10:26It's not really, you know,
10:27I think Jet understands how a good Hunter is,
10:30but I think it's more about, you know,
10:32I don't know if Jet's trying to, you know,
10:34establish that he's the man or tell himself,
10:36but really just to let everybody else know,
10:38like I said earlier in the show,
10:39yeah, on your great days you can run with me,
10:42but the days that you're a little off
10:44and you're not feeling good,
10:45can't you still continue to beat me?
10:47And I think that's what Jet does better than anybody.
10:50It's like when those guys get any kind of confidence
10:52to start believing,
10:53he just comes out literally the next race
10:55and kind of puts some guys on notice.
10:57So when they do it again,
10:59they won't have that same feeling
11:01because he's always continued to beat them
11:03when it matters the most.
11:04And, yeah, I mean, there's no excuses.
11:06He's got a round Hunter and Jorge
11:08and he goes on to hold them to this race.
11:11Yeah, everything that happened a couple weeks ago,
11:13that was nice.
11:13I'm still the guy.
11:16Battle for sixth.
11:18You got Harrop on the Triumph here.
11:205.11 Triumph has caught.
11:22Verandas on the Ducati
11:24and gets LaRocco's lead
11:27to the Danish rider,
11:29the Great Dane, if you will,
11:30making the move.
11:31Yeah, it's funny watching Dylan come out that corner.
11:34He was moving his body,
11:35his behind,
11:36trying to put some traction on that bike
11:38so he can hit that leap
11:39because he knows how fast it is
11:40and he wasn't able to do it.
11:42Ends up getting passed.
11:45Pretty solid effort for the 450 squad.
11:47Harrop and Jordan Smith
11:48at the last race at high point,
11:50both hovering around that top 10.
11:53Been fun to have Harrop here.
11:55He's really supposed to be part of the MSGP team
11:57for Triumph,
11:58but they haven't had the 450 ready
12:01so he raced 250 class here last year
12:03and then stayed to race to 450 class this year.
12:06They are saying he's supposed to go back
12:08to Europe in 2027.
12:10It's been fun having him here so far, Katie.
12:13Yeah, you know what?
12:13Showing up yesterday,
12:14his socks are red, white, and blue all around.
12:16He's very, very loud and proud
12:18and leaning in to being a Danish rider,
12:19but he was telling me about the Triumph.
12:21Remember, this 450 is new this year,
12:24so they started with a clean slate
12:25and he said he's really surprised
12:26with how well the engine package
12:28has been right from the start.
12:29And he said with having Jordan Smith around,
12:32it's been exceptionally important
12:33for both he and Jordan working as a team,
12:36especially with that clean notebook
12:37that they did have.
12:38He did want to say this, though.
12:40He said European fans are very, very loud.
12:42He said, so he was very excited to be here at Red Bud
12:45to see just how amped US fans can be.
12:50Well, hey, he gave them something to cheer for,
12:51jumping the Rocco's leap to make a pass.
12:53So he probably just got that experience there.
12:57The Ritchie family runs this place.
12:58They're smart.
12:59They put big old bleachers right next to that jump.
13:02And that thing is packed,
13:04that segment from about 7 in the morning.
13:08Yeah, it is.
13:09And the reason this is a favor
13:11to a lot of these riders
13:12is, yeah, the dirt's great.
13:14But it's really these fans
13:15and the opportunity
13:16that when you're hitting that leap
13:18or these jumps,
13:18you're not holding a motorcycle wide open.
13:20So you can hear the fans.
13:21They get excited for the jump.
13:23So, yeah, great place,
13:26great opportunity for all of them.
13:29The champ.
13:30Yeah, let's check in
13:31on old 222 Tony Carolli,
13:33the nine-time champion,
13:3640 years old.
13:39He's supposed to be a test rider for Ducati,
13:41but he keeps coming back
13:42for a couple of races here and there.
13:43He'll be at the next three of these.
13:45We asked him yesterday
13:46about why he's doing it.
13:52Yeah, you know,
13:53I'm actually having more fun now
13:55than I was racing for podiums,
13:57to be honest.
13:59A lot of people say,
14:00I mean, why are you racing?
14:01I mean,
14:02if you cannot battle for wins,
14:04I mean,
14:05I race because I enjoy riding,
14:06I enjoy being around,
14:08you know,
14:08in the motorist area
14:10with my family
14:11and with my kids.
14:12I really like this sport also,
14:16so it's just a matter of having fun
14:18and, of course,
14:20my mentality is still sometimes,
14:22you know,
14:23trying to push me,
14:24you know,
14:24to do the extra thing,
14:25but I try to,
14:26you know,
14:27keep it cool
14:28and see what's possible.
14:32It's really fun
14:33to see him out racing.
14:34In fact,
14:34talking with Brian Deegan
14:35right before the race,
14:35he's like,
14:36I gotta go get a photo with him
14:38or run with Hayden.
14:39Who knew that he would be
14:40next to the nighttime champ?
14:41So,
14:41really cool to see that.
14:42But I'm talking with Tony.
14:44He said there is a big difference
14:45that the training he's been having,
14:47which is training for testing
14:48versus training for riding.
14:50Stu,
14:50can you lean in a little to that
14:52and let us know
14:53what that's all about,
14:53the difference?
14:54Yeah,
14:55and really,
14:55what he's talking about
14:56is just that really
14:57an intensity level
14:58and when you're a test guy,
15:00you're testing for other people's sake.
15:02You know,
15:02you're testing the bike
15:03for Dylan Brandis
15:05or Justin Barsha,
15:05not necessarily for yourself.
15:07So,
15:07you know,
15:08doing the laps
15:09and it's more of an endurance thing.
15:11So,
15:11you see how he's standing up,
15:13kind of just riding around.
15:14That's what you would do
15:14as a test guy.
15:16Not really pushing the envelope,
15:17but just really being out there
15:18all day for everybody else.
15:20And this is Brandis
15:21on Webb.
15:24Good to see Cooper up here.
15:26Yeah.
15:27Now Dylan,
15:27after making a mistake earlier,
15:29makes a pass back.
15:30They're actually ahead of Mikhail.
15:32He actually went down
15:33in front of our TV thing.
15:35Oh,
15:35okay.
15:35Now we get it.
15:37So Harrop is riding well,
15:38but losing some spots.
15:40And just like that,
15:41already halfway into the Bodo.
15:42So a reminder to stock up
15:44Monster Energy.
15:45And when we set this,
15:47I would think this would put
15:48Brandis into six
15:49behind March Banks.
15:51and now we have the Harrop crash.
15:52We can show you the 31.
15:56Now this is up by
15:56Alfa Star.
15:58They drop down.
15:59It's on the inside right here.
16:00And usually this gets really hard base.
16:02So they have that inside line.
16:03You can see them lose both ends
16:05because that base of that jump
16:06is really hard.
16:07He was trying to push it,
16:08make a pass,
16:09and now it ends up losing both tires
16:11and goes down.
16:14Yeah,
16:14so now it is reset.
16:15Miranda six,
16:16Webb seven,
16:17Harrop back to eight.
16:19Cornelius Tondel
16:20putting in another good run
16:21for the ISRT Kawasaki team
16:24in ninth.
16:24and this is Hunter Lawrence
16:26and he just goes right by Prado.
16:28Yeah,
16:28Jorge just went on the outside,
16:30kind of got stood up there.
16:32Hunter since that opportunity
16:33made a great pass
16:35and you see Jet Lawrence
16:36is still right in front of these guys.
16:37So what I'm saying about Jorge
16:39continued that fight.
16:40This is where you're really going to see it.
16:42He has to just stay there more
16:43whether he can pass or not,
16:45but he just don't want to let
16:46these guys go.
16:47I think that's more of a mentality thing.
16:49But Hunter Lawrence
16:49since it's an opportunity,
16:50my brother hasn't gotten too far away.
16:53Now,
16:53let's see what
16:54but let's see what the difference is.
16:56How much he learned from High Point
16:57because I believe
16:59he rides like that
17:00he should be able to catch up
17:00number one in front of him.
17:07Well,
17:07that has been the question
17:08for
17:09going on four seasons now.
17:13All right.
17:13So the lap before it,
17:15Jet Lawrence ran at 214.
17:16That was way up.
17:17Jorge Prado
17:17behind him.
17:19Prado.
17:19So I want to see
17:21what Jet does
17:22these next two laps.
17:23Now that he sees his brother,
17:24in second
17:25and that's going to tell me a lot
17:26of what he actually thinks
17:27of Hunter
17:28and the difference between him
17:30and Jorge
17:30because Jet to me
17:31feels like now
17:32that Hunter's in second,
17:33I got to put in a couple laps
17:35because I let this guy
17:36stay up around.
17:36He's going to be a problem
17:37at the end of the race.
17:38Just different mentalities
17:39on how you race each guy.
17:42That was beautiful.
17:43That was nice.
17:46Hunter's definitely hustling.
17:47There's no doubt about that.
17:48So we will find out
17:49next time around
17:50if Jet can answer.
17:51Like I said,
17:52the last three and a half years
17:53in this 450 championship,
17:55he's seen guys get close.
17:56Jet usually has something extra
17:58he can answer with.
17:59Here's another test right now.
18:01Yeah, Hunter knows
18:02that the lap riders,
18:03he takes a look back.
18:04Jorge's not behind him,
18:05so it's all moving
18:07in front of him.
18:08And yeah, this guy,
18:09we had him, what,
18:10eighth on the fantasy pick.
18:12and I was like,
18:13no, I don't think so.
18:15RJ has been riding great all year.
18:16We've been talking about
18:17Hayden Deegan and everyone else,
18:19and RJ's been kind of
18:20sliding on the radar
18:20just like this moto.
18:22But he's secretly been doing good,
18:23and yeah, he should be
18:24top five every weekend for sure.
18:26So fourth place for Hampshire.
18:28He is a free agent
18:29because that team,
18:30Rockstar Husqvarna,
18:31will not return to racing
18:34next year.
18:34Now, RJ said he was trying
18:36to work on a deal with him,
18:37and then the news came
18:38that they were done,
18:38and he doesn't have an agent,
18:40so he's working all the angles.
18:41I presume the phones,
18:43the email himself,
18:45but the best thing you can do
18:47is put in rods like this,
18:48fourth place.
18:49Yeah, and plus,
18:50you kind of know
18:50he's looking for a rod,
18:52so eighth place
18:53and then cut it for RJ.
18:54I know he's going to be
18:55up front there,
18:55but I saw him do this
18:57last year as well.
19:01Exactly.
19:02This is pretty much
19:02where he was last year
19:04in his 450 debut campaign.
19:07Kind of got forgotten
19:08about a little bit
19:08because Supercross
19:09got cut short
19:10when he crashed.
19:12Not even a big crash,
19:13but the handlebar
19:13happened to hit him
19:14right on the top
19:15of his foot,
19:16and that was enough
19:17to put a hole
19:20in his Supercross schedule.
19:21Said he probably
19:22could have rushed back
19:23for the final
19:24two or three races,
19:25figured put the focus
19:26on motocross,
19:27and he's back
19:28and riding well.
19:29Yeah, and the way RJ's
19:30mentality,
19:31the way he rides
19:31a motorcycle,
19:32he's always,
19:33like, you see him
19:34halfway after the race,
19:35like, during the moto,
19:36you know he's going
19:37to be there.
19:37His whole fitness
19:38is great.
19:39So, as this season
19:40goes on and guys
19:41start getting tired
19:42and they get hurt,
19:43this is where RJ
19:44probably start rising
19:45to the front
19:46even more than
19:47the beginning
19:47because this is
19:48how he races.
19:49He's always going
19:50to get stronger.
19:51Maybe these other guys
19:52start going the opposite
19:52way.
19:53RJ will be there
19:53to slide in
19:54and capitalize.
19:55Oh, they will never
19:57cheat you for effort.
19:58I remember he got
19:58the overall win here
19:59several years ago
20:00in the 250s,
20:01crashed a bunch of times
20:02that day,
20:03but just never gave up
20:05and got the overall win.
20:07So, that's what he'll
20:08bring to whatever team
20:09he gets to next year,
20:11checking in with Deegan
20:12after the first turn crash.
20:14The 38 is now
20:16into the points,
20:1718th place.
20:19Just like Julian
20:20Bommere
20:20in that 250 class,
20:23maybe the results
20:24won't say how good
20:25paid drive,
20:25but he was down
20:26in that first corner
20:27for a while,
20:27so not only has to
20:28pass all these guys,
20:29you have to catch him
20:29again.
20:32When you're down like
20:32that and you're looking
20:33at the motorcycle
20:34kind of taking inventory,
20:36you have to know
20:37for sure,
20:37hey, I got to make sure
20:38everything's straight
20:39and not loose
20:41and things like that.
20:41You take that moment.
20:42Yeah, especially if,
20:44I mean, you're down
20:45and you're that far back,
20:46you know the only way
20:47you can be able to catch,
20:48you can't be riding
20:49on a super bent up
20:50motorcycle because you
20:51have to go faster
20:51than everybody else.
20:52So, if the front end's
20:53there, you're on the
20:54ground,
20:55especially on a track
20:55the way this one is
20:56with all these ruts,
20:57you've got to have
20:57that front end straight
20:58so take a little bit
20:59of extra time
21:00and you'll make up
21:02that time for sure.
21:04So, Hayden,
21:05looking for Anton Nordstrom
21:07to be the next rider.
21:09There he is.
21:10and that will be for 16th.
21:19Yeah,
21:20Lincoln fans are out.
21:21They're cheering them.
21:22They're going to be out
21:23because, I mean,
21:23it's a great ride by them,
21:24but I remember hating
21:26some of these motos
21:27back in the day.
21:27It's like,
21:27I go down in the first corner,
21:29I have to make my way up
21:31and if I finish 15th,
21:33it seems like I've passed
21:34a million riders
21:35and I'm like,
21:35oh, I have to be
21:36inside the top 10
21:37and then you realize
21:37you're in the 15th field.
21:3915th is like,
21:39man, I did all that work
21:41for five points.
21:43And another problem,
21:45he's going to expel
21:46more energy with this ride
21:48than if he were out front,
21:49right?
21:49Yeah, he will,
21:50but I know he's got
21:51plenty of energy.
21:52He's young enough.
21:53You know,
21:54the only negative to it
21:55is sometimes
21:56when you're this far back,
21:57you don't really get
21:58the sense of the speed
21:59for the guys out front
22:00and the lines
22:01that they're taking.
22:02Luckily for him,
22:02he can go back
22:03and watch some of the races,
22:04but that's really
22:05where it comes down to.
22:06Just the feel of
22:07once you get up there
22:08with Jet Lawrence,
22:09how much faster that pace is
22:10compared to what you just
22:11rode that first moto.
22:12It's kind of a shocker
22:13to the system
22:14for a little bit.
22:22JT.
22:23I was just thinking about,
22:24you know,
22:24digging a red,
22:25but it hasn't been
22:26all that kind to him
22:27as it went.
22:27Remember,
22:28this is the race
22:28where he had multiple crashes,
22:30really, really tough day
22:31last July.
22:32So he's probably trying
22:33to figure out
22:34where that 2023 magic is.
22:37Yeah,
22:37last year,
22:38crashing and qualifying,
22:39took a handlebar
22:40to the stomach
22:41and then it was
22:42a rough day from there.
22:43A couple of crashes
22:44in the motos too,
22:45as you mentioned.
22:47Shimoda got the 1-1
22:48and was really strong
22:49for the rest of the year.
22:51Of course,
22:51Deegan won the championship
22:53and wasn't really
22:54threatened per se,
22:56but yeah,
22:56you would think
22:57that this would be
22:58an amazing track for him.
22:59It just hasn't been there
23:00luck-wise.
23:01A little further
23:02through the field.
23:03Hey,
23:03shout out Mitch Oldenburg
23:04there on the left side
23:05on the Liquid Molly Beta
23:08and ahead of him
23:10is Mark Finnis.
23:11Now,
23:12you might briefly
23:13remember Finnis
23:14at High Point
23:14when he was
23:15with the Club MX team
23:15in the 250 class
23:17a couple of years ago
23:17with a good start
23:18and leading.
23:20But at the end
23:20of last year,
23:21he didn't have a ride
23:21and he just wasn't
23:22doing anything
23:23except coaching
23:24and training,
23:24but he's an Indiana native
23:26so he decided
23:27to come on out
23:28and ride here
23:29the track closest to him
23:31and how about it?
23:32Mark Finnis is at 13th.
23:35First race of the year.
23:36Yeah,
23:36that's cool.
23:37I mean,
23:37everybody's coming out
23:38to ride.
23:39Here,
23:39you got Tony coming over here.
23:41You got Mark coming back.
23:44Oldenburg
23:44and now Deegan.
23:46Just another classic
23:47Corolli-Finnis-Oldenburg-Deegan
23:49battle.
23:50Seen it a million times
23:50and Deegan
23:51busts out Larocco's leap
23:53right over Oldenburg.
23:55Yeah,
23:55you sense that
23:56just when you look up
23:57you're like,
23:57oh,
23:57no,
23:57you can have that son.
23:58I'm not going to
23:59close this one off.
24:01Well,
24:01Mitch here,
24:02he had become
24:03a Supercross guy,
24:04had not ridden
24:04outdoors since 2019
24:06until this year.
24:08He's trying to get
24:09the 30 plus two back,
24:10JT.
24:11Nothing's going to put
24:12the old in Oldenburg
24:13like Deegan
24:14at 19 years old
24:15jumping over your head.
24:16So,
24:17welcome to Pro Motocross,
24:18Mitchell Oldenburg.
24:19Welcome back,
24:20I guess.
24:21Rude awakening.
24:24Solid.
24:25All right,
24:25Finnis,
24:26you're going to have
24:26to deal with Deegan now.
24:28I think these two
24:29actually raced each other
24:31quite a bit as amateurs.
24:33Certainly,
24:33the careers have
24:34diverted a bit
24:35since then.
24:38I did say,
24:39hey,
24:39shout out to you though,
24:40Mark.
24:40You did earn
24:40national number 88
24:41last year.
24:42That's not easy to do.
24:44No, it's not.
24:45I mean,
24:45he and I here
24:46making it.
24:47That's good.
24:50Hey,
24:50he might have
24:50heard a national number
24:51again.
24:51He's well inside the points,
24:52but here comes Deegan
24:53on the inside.
24:55And just like that,
24:57he's by that signature
24:58Deegan when you hear
24:59the revs.
25:00Yeah,
25:00he's going to realize,
25:01okay,
25:01so that's what those guys
25:03since when he's
25:04hating around.
25:04I'm a little revving up.
25:05No,
25:06I don't want that fight.
25:06Nope.
25:09Still a great job
25:10for Phinnes,
25:12who obviously
25:12wasn't training
25:13for this full time.
25:16Could have
25:17Corolli and Deegan
25:18next.
25:19He keeps moving forward.
25:21Been an interesting
25:22couple of weeks
25:22for Deegan
25:23riding in different areas
25:23to get ready
25:24for Southwick.
25:25We asked him about it
25:26yesterday.
25:29Yeah,
25:30100%.
25:30It's cool to go to Southwick,
25:32do a little testing there.
25:33They've really been
25:33cool with me
25:34coming out there
25:35and riding,
25:35and it was good.
25:36Do a little bit
25:37of riding testing,
25:38seeing how that,
25:39I mean,
25:39I kind of know
25:40how the sand is there,
25:41but it's good
25:42to kind of get
25:42embedded in your brain,
25:43and it also helps
25:44with my riding style,
25:45trying to learn
25:45that technique
25:46of that 450,
25:47so I think
25:48it was a good thing,
25:49so we'll see
25:50if it helps at Southwick,
25:51but no matter
25:52what,
25:52it helped me.
25:53Well,
25:54he continued
25:54on his journey
25:55to go to the Carolinas
25:56as Cooper Webb,
25:57his teammate,
25:58and in fact,
25:59they took it
25:59back to basics.
26:00In fact,
26:00they did things
26:01on those motors
26:02like two laps,
26:03no flats,
26:03or standing up on a lap,
26:04and they really wanted
26:06to kind of just
26:06break it down,
26:07get to the fundamentals
26:08again,
26:09and that's what
26:09the team was telling
26:10me about,
26:11was it's not really
26:12the big strides,
26:13the big moves
26:14that they need.
26:14They really need
26:15to work on the nitty-gritty,
26:16and doing just that
26:17with Cooper Webb
26:17was the guy
26:18they wanted to do it with.
26:20Yeah, thanks, Katie.
26:21That's in some ways
26:23home ground
26:23as you watch Carolinas,
26:24who would be next
26:25on Deegan's list.
26:26Home ground,
26:27North Carolina,
26:28is where Webb's
26:28originally from,
26:29and then the Deegan's
26:30had moved there
26:31for a while
26:32and still don't own
26:32a house there,
26:33but they had to go
26:34to Florida like Webb
26:35to work with the team.
26:36So they got a reprieve
26:37there for a week or so.
26:39So this is Caroli.
26:42Actually,
26:42between them
26:43is Valentin Guillault,
26:44and Caroli and Guillault
26:45have raced each other
26:46forever.
26:48The Swiss native
26:49and the Italian.
26:50It's fun to see
26:51it happening now
26:51in pro motocross
26:52in America.
26:54Very familiar
26:55with each other,
26:56and then they basically
26:56never race Deegan,
26:57so you never know
26:58what you're going
26:58to get out here.
26:59You got decades
27:01of experience
27:03up here.
27:04Caroli doing his thing
27:06over here,
27:07and obviously
27:08you got the
27:08hate Deegan effect.
27:11Got me,
27:11but hey,
27:11I'd have an opportunity
27:12to get inside
27:13that top 10,
27:15or at least 11th here.
27:17George Smith seems
27:18like he's a little
27:18far ahead up,
27:19but...
27:20Tony's 11th,
27:22then Guillault 12th,
27:23then Deegan,
27:23and then Jordan Smith
27:24that's in that
27:2510th place spot.
27:26As for Tony,
27:27when it was raining
27:28really bad yesterday
27:29and it was muddy
27:29this morning,
27:30I saw him and he said,
27:31look,
27:32I did not sign up
27:33for a mud race.
27:34I'm like,
27:34come on,
27:34you probably raced
27:35a million of them,
27:36and he's like,
27:36yeah,
27:36but I haven't actually
27:37raced one since 2021.
27:39That's the difference,
27:40I guess,
27:40when you're not
27:41a full-time racer.
27:42But what mud race?
27:44I mean,
27:44it's a little heavier
27:45today,
27:46but it is not
27:46a full mudder,
27:47and he's probably
27:48having a good time
27:49right now.
27:50He is.
27:50I mean,
27:51maybe towards the end
27:52of this moto,
27:53the test guy
27:54probably could get in,
27:54but I know
27:55he's had a good time.
27:56But yeah,
27:57I mean,
27:57I don't blame Tony.
27:59We didn't even want
27:59to walk to the truck
28:00when it was raining,
28:02let alone come on here
28:02and race in the rain.
28:04Yes,
28:04we were begging.
28:05We just stay in this truck
28:06until the rain is over
28:07yesterday.
28:08Jet Lawrence
28:08in the lap traffic.
28:10Well,
28:11it's the standard fare.
28:12The gap is only 1.9 seconds.
28:14It's not a big lead,
28:14but as we said,
28:16you see this over
28:16and over and over
28:18with Jet Lawrence.
28:19He just has these
28:20small gaps.
28:21Hunter is clearly there,
28:23clearly pushing,
28:24clearly going for it.
28:26The watch says
28:27it's close.
28:27How close is it really?
28:29We're about to find out.
28:30Yeah,
28:31it's actually been
28:31really close.
28:32Hunter's done a great job
28:33at closing this gap,
28:34and it's not like Jet's
28:35really getting caught up
28:37behind the lappers.
28:38I mean,
28:38Hunter's doing it as well.
28:39Hunter's really pushing it,
28:41but just like we saw
28:42with Cole Davies
28:42in that 250 class,
28:43it seems like
28:44by pushing on his racetrack,
28:46they're able to make that time,
28:47but one mistake,
28:48that time gets pulled out.
28:51Oh,
28:51Toggle,
28:52who had a great run
28:53going near the top 10,
28:54is out and taking
28:55a water from the fans.
28:57I was talking to his team,
28:59Bubba Paul and the owner,
29:00they were really happy
29:00with how much work
29:01he put in over the weekend off.
29:03Thought he'd have
29:03big things going today.
29:04Oh,
29:04Hunter is wide open right now.
29:06He is hustling.
29:07Yeah,
29:08Hunter's here.
29:09You know,
29:10like I was saying,
29:10look at this.
29:11A point.
29:11Yeah,
29:12Jet's trying.
29:12Hunter's actually been
29:13the faster of the two.
29:16He actually has the fastest
29:17lap of the race,
29:18and I mean,
29:20he just ate up that gap
29:20like it was nothing.
29:22This is not the traditional
29:231.5 two second lead
29:25for Jet now.
29:26It's wheel to wheel.
29:28Yeah,
29:28especially on this racetrack
29:29when you're a second,
29:30you know when that guy's breaking
29:31so you can really make up
29:32a lot of time.
29:34But this race,
29:35if he's somehow able
29:36to get around his brother,
29:37which as I'm Hunter,
29:38I know I can see Jet.
29:40I can see the way
29:41his body language is.
29:42This is the opportunity.
29:43As I said,
29:44if he's able to get him,
29:45which he's going to have
29:45a run right here,
29:47he's going to put the power down,
29:48Jet's going to slowly close.
29:50Oh, side by side,
29:51the Lawrence's Hunter to the lead.
29:53Yep, Hunter just got to get
29:54through this inside.
29:54The inside's going to funnel out.
29:56He's going to cut him off.
29:57Not important to keep his brother
29:59behind him,
29:59but Hunter Lawrence,
30:01what?
30:02You do not see this,
30:04someone running down Jet
30:06effectively like that.
30:08Listen to the crowd.
30:29I want to hear when he gets
30:30over this big tabletop
30:31and heads to the sand rollers.
30:33How loud will they get?
30:34It's going to be a new leader
30:35for these fans
30:36on this side.
30:50Guys, I just want to pose
30:51a question.
30:52You know,
30:53Jet has not been able
30:54to do all the things
30:55he'd like to do.
30:56He can't ride as much
30:57as he wants.
30:57He's had to back it down
30:58a little bit simply
30:59because he's managing
31:00that injury.
31:01Now, he looked fantastic
31:02early on,
31:03got to the front,
31:04and I thought he would
31:05be able to ride
31:05away from this thing.
31:07But the question is,
31:08are we seeing
31:09a cumulative effect here
31:10of him not being able
31:12to do all the things
31:13he's supposed to do
31:13during the week
31:14because he simply
31:15doesn't look very good here.
31:16The last couple laps,
31:17as James said,
31:18his body language
31:19has not shown a propensity
31:21to want to keep
31:21moving forward.
31:22Yeah, that's a great point,
31:24JT.
31:24If you've been with us
31:26all year long,
31:26which I'm sure you have,
31:27you've been hearing us
31:28talk about,
31:29you know,
31:29especially me,
31:30it's this injury with Jet.
31:31It's not necessarily
31:32on the Saturdays,
31:34if he would be able
31:35to train and test,
31:36that would eventually
31:37catch up to you.
31:38And this is what
31:39JT's talking about.
31:40This is where
31:40that endurance,
31:42maybe because he hasn't
31:43been able to put
31:43all that time on the bike
31:44or even just the bike-wise
31:46set,
31:46he's not able to ride
31:47during the week.
31:48This is when that time
31:49has started catching up,
31:50not early in the season
31:50when everybody's
31:51trying to figure it out.
31:52And man,
31:54really impressed
31:55still by what Hunter's did
31:57because what we saw
31:58a couple weekends ago,
31:59I'd say,
31:59I haven't seen that.
32:01Jet Lawrence is up there.
32:02Hunter Lawrence just rods away
32:03and makes it look easy.
32:04Okay,
32:05that was new.
32:06But I also haven't seen
32:07this either.
32:08I've seen Jet maybe
32:10look like when Chase
32:11was riding,
32:11Eli's behind him.
32:13Look in that same position
32:14where Hunter was behind him
32:15where it's like,
32:16okay,
32:16these guys have an opportunity.
32:17It looks like he's struggling
32:18but still able to find a way
32:20to hold them guys off.
32:22What I've just seen Hunter do
32:23is more,
32:24actually more,
32:26bigger for his mindset
32:27moving forward
32:28than even what he did
32:29a couple weekends ago
32:30in High Point
32:31because of the way he did it.
32:32This has never happened
32:33and he's making it look
32:35pretty easy
32:36towards the end of the race
32:37when Jet Lawrence
32:38never gets passed
32:39at the end of the race.
32:41Man,
32:42this is a great ride.
32:42Great ride
32:43if you can hold on.
32:45Yeah,
32:45that was the question.
32:46He got it down
32:47to 1.9 seconds,
32:481.5,
32:49but we've seen that happen
32:50so many times
32:51and usually that's about
32:52where it stops.
32:53And then you saw Hunter
32:54just digging
32:54and Jet,
32:55again,
32:56did not have an answer.
32:56and just like that,
32:59the 96 has taken the lead.
33:02This would be
33:02three moto wins
33:04in a row
33:04and the last time
33:06Jet lost the lead
33:07like that
33:07was Southwick 2024.
33:10That was when
33:11Chase Sexton
33:11got both of Lawrence's
33:12late,
33:13but let's be honest,
33:14Jet was hurt pretty bad
33:15early in that season
33:16at Hangtown
33:18and kind of the same thing.
33:19I don't think
33:20he was able to ride
33:20and train during the week.
33:21Maybe he didn't have
33:22the fitness that day.
33:23Sexton overcame him.
33:24Hunter Lawrence,
33:25first time in two years
33:27someone's been able
33:27to overhaul Jet
33:28for the lead like that.
33:30Yeah,
33:30and it is.
33:31And yeah,
33:32you go back
33:32to what you said
33:33with Chase Sexton.
33:34The difference is
33:35Hunter just beat him
33:37a couple weeks ago,
33:38right?
33:38And Hunter won
33:39the first race
33:40dominant.
33:41So yeah,
33:41if anybody knows
33:42how Jet's feeling
33:43during the week,
33:43it's going to be
33:44Hunter Lawrence,
33:44but still to be able
33:45to come out
33:45and execute that
33:46is huge.
33:48And the way
33:49he's doing it,
33:49you can tell
33:50that he's very loose
33:51on the motorcycle,
33:52making mistakes.
33:53He's in the zone.
33:55Hey,
33:56that's a big deal.
33:57And if the race
33:58finishes the way he is,
33:59that red play
34:00is going to switch,
34:01at least for this moto.
34:02That's quite symbolic
34:03right there.
34:04Momentum,
34:05cumulative effect,
34:06point lead
34:07for Hunter,
34:09who might be time
34:10to say
34:10is the hottest property
34:12in 450 motocross
34:13right now.
34:15Got a little
34:15wind streak going.
34:17and here's the gap.
34:18He's already pulled.
34:21Yeah,
34:21what we're talking
34:22about to make it
34:23pretty basic
34:25off the jet
34:25just riding
34:26one day a week.
34:28Focusing a lot
34:29on the rehabilitation
34:30of the foot
34:31instead of the normal
34:32riding training program.
34:35And certainly fitness
34:37is a massive part
34:38of this game.
34:39And Hunter's got it
34:40right now.
34:42Oh no!
34:42And he tips over!
34:44How big a lead
34:45does he have?
34:45It was seven
34:46and a half seconds.
34:48He's got to get
34:49the bike refired
34:50and just back
34:50in the lead
34:51on the last lap.
34:56Good job, man.
34:57Good job.
34:58Oh.
35:00That was crazy
35:01because Jet
35:02actually given up
35:03at that point.
35:05That lead gave
35:05even bigger.
35:06Hunter Lawrence
35:07and now Hunter's
35:08going all out.
35:09It's their time.
35:14Yeah, I haven't
35:15seen that one
35:15either
35:16as he gets
35:17bottled up
35:18by the lap rider.
35:21Oh, he's fighting
35:22for it.
35:23There's still time.
35:27Oh, that one's
35:29got a steam.
35:32I cannot believe this.
35:38lap rider.
35:39La Rocco's leap
35:40and two turns
35:41from the finish.
35:44Hunter Gabble
35:45to the inside
35:45lap traffic there.
35:46It's not going to work.
35:49Jet Lawrence
35:50over La Rocco's leap.
35:53He's won a lot
35:54of races.
35:55I don't know
35:56if he's ever
35:56won one like this.
35:58Jet Lawrence
35:59wins Moto
36:00won a red
36:00bud.
36:03You can see
36:04how upset
36:05Hunter is.
36:06He just goes
36:06in that corner,
36:08stops the bike,
36:08stalls it basically.
36:11Oh, my gosh.
36:17And you can't
36:17laugh because
36:18in a way,
36:18it's just one
36:19position in the
36:20grand scheme
36:20of the entire
