01:08might have even been Tim during the session where he basically said the line is kind of getting quite
01:12narrow now because of where it's drying out so that's going to be the challenge for the riders
01:15here you get a good start all of a sudden you can command the race but if you lose a
01:20couple of
01:20positions early on all of a sudden you're having to play catch up and try and figure out which way
01:26is the best way to make those moves stick Gilly uh Daniela Guilherme goes around the outside Lotta
01:32of Vandruna that should never have happened there but the Spaniard up in the second going after the
01:36Italian Fontenese Fontenese leads Guilherme second
01:42ah big crash there for Vandruna off the side of the track
01:49bad start for the defending champ trying to get a bike out of the fence
02:01so already major setback for the defending champion Fontenese leads Guilherme second
02:08Vandruna was third when she hit the line but she's now out of it France only up to third Galisa
02:13for Duncan into fifth and then Volk, Vandruna, Franzen, Barker and Jakobsen
02:20so Chiara Fontenese staying out of the way staying out of trouble for now
02:27it was a difficult first lap for the number one of Lotta Vandruna she she pulled a whole shot
02:31number eight Chiara Fontenese found her way past quite quickly and then towards the end of the lap
02:36she was a little bit hesitant was the Dutch girl Daniela Guillen found her way around the outside
02:43of her into second and then just shortly after that the defending champ was down here she is
02:49rejoins the race but she's going to be right at the back I would imagine
02:55here's how she did it
02:59just so cross-rooted there look and then serves her way off the side of the track could have been
03:05so
03:05much worse huge moment in the championship already here at round one fortunately able to pick herself
03:13up and rejoin the race but the number one is right at the back in 40th position with a mountain
03:23to climb
03:25the only thing that you can say is that it was on the opening lap the problem is she is
03:32so far behind
03:33the next rider
03:36and so far off from the points situation that all of a sudden just to try you would expect her
03:43to break
03:43into the points
03:46but it's also is it going to be one two maybe five who knows 16 minutes plus two laps to

03:55there's Franzoni and Duncan they're third and fourth now
04:03so the one five three April Franzoni who finished 10th overall in the championship last year
04:10got what three seventh place finishes over the course of the
04:13the season in race trim
04:16couple of seventh overalls oh fontanese almost out the front door
04:23Daniel again closing in on the italian
04:29so chiara fontanese with a lucky escape there as well
04:37and i wonder if that has unsettled the six-time champion
04:42watch here just comes up short there catches her a little hole on that crest
04:52she just set the fastest lap at the end of that opening lap as well finish line to finish line

05:19the runs so deep on the face of that wall jump

05:23guillen set the fastest lap that time around 146.3 six tenths quicker than fontanese

05:31and the italian
05:33just trying to get her head down and oh we've got waved yellows here
05:38on the face of the jump another rider has gone off or they're just trying to fix the fencing there

06:11so that left-hand turn obviously catching riders out because to you got a two-time champ a four-time

06:19coming out of that corner and then for them to be hitting the jump and then going off to the
06:22right
06:22it must be a horrible run there somewhere
06:27under the fencing under the banners so duncan and lot of andrunen both having problems on that jump
06:35and has that effectively ended any hopes of them becoming world champion this year
06:43of course it was still a long way to go and it is the opening round but we only have
06:47five rounds
06:48in this series 10 races
06:56flags are in oh we've got a red flag
07:01did we have a red flag there on the side no it might have just been a fan not sure
07:13so back at the end of pit lane then
07:19fontanese and guillen 2.1 seconds clear
07:23of each other that's the gap between them duncan in 15th place 14th place now
07:32so i was able to get herself out of the fence a lot quicker than
07:35lots of andrunen was able to that true now up in the 27th position with 12 and a half minutes
07:41plus two laps to go
07:51so it's just the end tip of the uh the trickleur that just caught my eye as the leaders came

08:02anyway franson up tonight lucy barker down to 10. anderson loft up to 11. backs from up to 12.
08:08knaves uh neves from brazil 13th in her first ever wmx race she'll be pleased just to be on the

08:14on the leaderboard duncan up to 14th about 2.9 seconds behind the brazilian
08:19there's lots of andruna get her over the line this time around she was 26th a moment ago she's now

08:25the 25th place just needs to not panic stay calm and just let this race come to her let the

08:32come to her as well and whatever the situation is at the end of it all
08:38no point even looking at pit boards at this stage of the race just keep clicking off laps passing riders
08:47now up into 24th
09:01just keeping an eye on the gap at the head of the field right here number eight
09:04kiara fontanese 2.195 seconds clear of daniela guienne we'll hit the split here it might be slightly
09:12less than that there though 1.2 so the 79 there of uh victoria kukczyk of poland doing their best
09:21to stay out of the way
09:25but look at the uh traffic got a few uh mobile chicanes at which the leaders have to negotiate
09:36as they pick their weight through that wave section there was a moment there earlier on in the race for
09:41the number eight she's off balance here coming into turn six bottom of the hill blue flags being waved
09:51as fontanese the race leader comes through doubles her way past one of the slower riders there
09:57van druda now for 21st place bit of a nervous moment there for fontanese just caught the outside of the
10:04turn took a quick look back didn't cost her too much time she goes left top of the hill guienne

10:22again back markers just starting to cause one or two problems here guienne not sure whether to go left or

11:25Duncan up to 12th as they continue their charge both falling on the finish line

11:43so daniela guienne gap yo-yoing between her and fontanese it was 1.3 a moment ago it's now 2

11:50might stretch a little bit now because of the hesitant turn there by the spaniard couldn't get

12:07about 20 seconds further back we have april franzoni not here there she is coming into view now to the
12:16outside or not no not quite the 153 is what we're looking for there she is
12:25so honda motor blues sr motor being urged on by the home fans you know and you're actually in a
12:34situation here where a good result in race two you can find yourself getting your first ever podium
12:39and what a place to try and get that podium than right here at home in france everybody cheering for

12:54doing a great job here the rider who finished in the championship last year 10th overall
13:05and she's got seven minutes plus two laps in race one not just to get her best career finish but

13:11first top three as well in wmx malou jacobtsen up to seven she found her way past amindi verstappen so
13:17seven and eight place changing positions there lucy barker about 15 seconds 16 seconds further back in
13:24ninth then anderson lot then duncan is up to 11th looking to break into the top 10 imminently
13:30because she's about six seconds well she's as we do that gets over the line now moves into 10th place
13:38lots of andrewna meanwhile into 17th waiting to see if she gets over the line any more positions
13:44going for the defending champion back to the finish line then
13:58and somebody else exactly the same wow definitely having issues on that jump today aren't we
14:19so van drunen up to 16th
14:24meanwhile fontanese now 4.3 seconds clear of daniela guienne guienne looking like
14:31with one or two issues with back markers she may have just settled for second get through this one
14:37take decent points
14:42but you never know
14:53so the 78 i think of uh elisa anderson loth of sweden it might have been that just fell there

15:09meanwhile fontanese still four seconds clear 4.2 seconds clear of daniela guienne

15:22so the gap coming down ever so slightly but not enough at the moment

15:32point something and if fontanese can't get over this double jump because of a back marker and daniela guienne
15:37can all of a sudden 4.2 seconds any moment now may change to 3.054
15:44seconds so about a second over the lap so far costing chiara fontanese

15:5925 and a half seconds further back galisa 15 seconds off of the french rider then we got volk in

16:06good ride good comeback ride for lin volk actually then we got jakobsen vanderbliss
16:10bestappen barker and duncan those two 1.3 fact duncan goes by as i say that moves up in the
16:16ninth position
16:21always a better race than a qualifier courtney duncan
16:25but was in fourth place could have been sitting there in third maybe challenging for a potential
16:31second in her first ride back meanwhile lotter van drunen debats yamaha ait yamaha supported
16:36team rider defending champion here she finds herself up into 12th place now
16:48about 16 seconds further behind what that duncan parker backstrom battle maybe
17:05maybe even a bit more actually
17:06in fact just looking on the leaderboard here barker's gone back in tonight don't come back down to 10. so

17:40lotter van drunen here with just two and a half minutes plus two laps remaining now in 12th place

18:11a couple of back markers here for lotter van drunen to deal with
18:17but she's in the points that's the crucial thing

18:43stepping up into the middle term turn 10 end of sector three
18:52managed the race perfectly well got off to a good start hassled and hustled away past lotter van drunen
18:59the defending champion on the opening lap within the first few corners actually
19:04daniela guienne went past the number one as well and at the end of the lap van drunen fell
19:10left fontanese and guienne to battle for the lead but it's daniela guienne who has now had to settle for
19:19second for now with about three laps to go
19:25here is van drunen
19:32so the trend set up and for all the wrong reasons was lotter van drunen at the end of the
19:38lap on
19:38this jump here see the ruts on the face there lotter van drunen was in third position and she
19:44came out of the turn caught the run there came up short it folded and then just after that a
19:51lap or so
19:52later courtney duncan in fourth place she almost did an eli tomac there
20:01and then we had the swede anderson loff
20:11duncan picking herself up coming out of the corner there as well that's what the flags are for so
20:16duncan who was in eighth place rejoins the race just ahead of lotter van drunen
20:26just wondering whether she's just twisted the bars there bent the bars there
20:30not the comeback ride that the kiwi girl was hoping for but she's going to have to dig very deep

20:35at the latter stage of the race wave jellos at the bottom of the hill here as well
20:45scuriditi the 118 there picking herself up
20:59duncan if she looks behind maybe she did there she'll see lots of andrew and lots of andrew
21:03and she'll be like well you know what this could be one of my rivals
21:08later on in the championship but anyway
21:11duncan comes together with the number one tips over again
21:17falls from 10th place
21:26getting ready to take the two lap board though the number eight kiara fontanese
21:31she'll see the number one ahead of her she won't believe her eyes
21:37so an extra lap for lotter van drunen fontanese she'll be she would have already been aware
21:43of the misfortunes of the defending champion on the pit board
21:48early on in the race van drunen crash van drunen out van drunen whatever the position
21:55and so to find herself here at the end of the race
22:00is about to lap the number one who is in ninth position no one would have seen that in the
22:07script
22:10it's a little bit off balance i wonder if the bike is a little bit damaged after that crash as
22:14well not able to push as hard as she wanted to maybe and she will be
22:20unsuspectingly receiving that blue flag fontanese laps the defending champion with two laps to go
22:31what a moment in the race
22:44van drunen with a new trader this year mark de ruwe
22:54so they'll have a couple of words after this race i'm sure think about a game plan going forward
22:59for tomorrow for race two how to deal with this situation right now
23:06the positive is you're in the top 10 you're a long way down a long way down on the deck
23:12after the crash
23:15could have been a lot worse it wasn't these are the positives that you can take from it
23:20if the bike was damaged you rode with a damaged bike you rode around it where others wouldn't have
23:27but heading into the final lap
23:31chiara fontanese on the number eight the six-time champ
23:35looking to get off to the best possible start last year race once she finished four
23:47it's been a while since she won the opening race of the season put it that way
23:58and here she is she's dealt with everything
