A food delivery company employee has been accused of stealing a water tap from a public drinking water kiosk installed at a temple complex in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district.

The incident reportedly took place at Divya Balaji Dham in the Kotwali area of Hapur and was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the site.

According to temple authorities, the Ganga-Jamuna Siddhpeeth complex had set up a free cool drinking water facility for devotees, travellers, and passersby as part of a public service initiative during the intense summer heat.

Temple officials alleged that a delivery worker associated with Zomato removed one of the taps from the water kiosk. CCTV footage from the premises reportedly captured the act.

Temple Mahant Acharya Yashvardhan condemned the incident and termed it unfortunate, stating that such acts obstruct public welfare and religious service activities meant for common people.

The temple administration has demanded a fair investigation and strict action against the accused.

Officials also clarified that despite the incident, the temple will continue its public welfare initiatives, including the free drinking water service.

Inspector Manish Chauhan, in-charge of Hapur City Police Station, said the matter has been reported and CCTV footage clearly shows the accused allegedly removing the tap from the stall.

Police identified and arrested the individual and legal action will be taken accordingly.
