A serious road accident was reported near Alankar Theatre on the Ponnani–Nariparamba road in Kerala after a speeding lorry allegedly collided with an auto-rickshaw, leaving the auto driver critically injured.

The incident took place at around 9:10 AM on May 9.

The injured auto-rickshaw driver has been identified as Rasikh, a resident of Puthuponnani Jeelani Nagar in Ponnani.

According to reports, the lorry allegedly lost control while taking a turn at high speed and crashed head-on into the auto-rickshaw near the theatre premises. The impact reportedly destroyed the auto-rickshaw completely.

Local residents and Squad 54 ambulance workers rushed to the spot and rescued the unconscious driver from the wreckage.

Rasikh was initially shifted to a private hospital in Edappal for emergency treatment and stabilisation. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was later transferred in a specialised ICU ambulance to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Some local reports also mentioned a transfer to Thrissur Medical College Hospital.

Police have reportedly secured CCTV footage from the accident spot and launched an investigation into the role of the lorry driver in the crash.

Further investigation is underway.
