An incident of vandalism at a religious site has surfaced from Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh, where a youth allegedly entered a temple in an inebriated state and damaged religious symbols.

The incident took place at the Gaurishankar Temple in Hamidpur Badagaon under the Unchahar Kotwali area. According to local residents, the accused, identified as Kuldeep Yadav from Nandi Ka Purwa village, entered the temple premises late at night and allegedly began vandalising items inside.

Villagers claimed that he broke a trident (trishul) kept in the temple and repeatedly struck the Shivling before fleeing. By the time locals intervened, significant damage had reportedly been caused.

The entire episode was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the temple. The footage later surfaced on social media and went viral, prompting swift police action.

Unchahar police took cognisance of the matter and arrested the accused. Officials confirmed that a case has been registered and strict legal action will follow. Police said all angles are being investigated.

The incident has triggered anger among residents, who have demanded enhanced security at religious places.
