00:00You know, not a lot of us were actually at Brown's rookie minicamp, but somehow the
00:04tail and green hype is overload today because a couple videos, I think, on social media.
00:10Well, it's really funny.
00:11It's like every Brown's beat reporter learned that he's six foot five.
00:14Yeah.
00:15And it's like, oh, he is tall.
00:16It's like, until they actually see him in person, it's like, he really is.
00:19It's a gigantic human, isn't it?
00:20And it's like, yeah, we saw this coming, right?
00:23Yeah.
00:24And also, by the way, he's very athletic.
00:26That's very athletic.
00:27That's kind of his deal.
00:28That's his MO.
00:29So it's funny.
00:30It's rookie minicamps.
00:32Like, I think this is his time to get the kind of work.
00:37Because of the log gym ahead of him, he kind of is going to be the Shador of this year
00:44in
00:44that I don't really expect him to get hardly any work.
00:47And he's probably going to be thrown to ball boys in August.
00:51And that finally feels right about where they've got the third or fourth quarterback
00:56in the depth chart here.
00:57Well, it's funny because you bring up Shador and it's like, I heard all sorts of people
00:59and they're like, oh, he's a six round pick.
01:01I can't expect anything out of him.
01:03All right.
01:03And it's like, well, all right.
01:04The fifth round pick and Shador did play a lot of games last year and it is the Browns
01:07and things do happen.
01:09And so like, maybe we have the scenario where green has to get into a game and actually
01:13do something.
01:13I wouldn't expect it.
01:15You're not supposed to expect it, but we know that he's going to make the roster.
01:19At least we can assume he'll make the roster.
01:20They're probably only taking three quarterbacks in the roster.
01:23It's not crazy to think that he'd end up in a game.
01:25No, but it's just going to be so weird.
01:27Like in terms of one, how many quarterbacks do they carry in general and whether any of
01:34them are going to be on the practice squad to like I, the tough thing about having a
01:39third quarterback active is you, which I think this would be the way that Kalen green
01:45gets playing time early this season is then you better make sure that you put whatever
01:50package is designed for him out on the field as soon as humanly possible.
01:53Because if you, if you waste a roster spot on a guy and then you don't end up deploying
01:57that package in a game, right?
01:59There will be, there's going to be obviously concern of like, well, okay, how did, how
02:02did we mismanage this spot?
02:04Yeah.
02:04Well, I mean, and that's the interesting part about him.
02:06Can he show enough to dictate a couple of plays a game?
02:10That's really the test for him, right?
02:11At least until something happens, an injury, et cetera, is like, can you showcase enough that
02:15we can put you in a red zone play and we can try to figure this whole thing out?
02:18And I think the Browns need to push it to him and get the idea to him that like, we
02:24know you want to be a quarterback, but the easiest way for you to do that is just getting
02:28touches to adapt to the speed.
02:31And the only way that happens is if we use you in various spots is effectively another
02:36tight end.
02:37And so I think that's like, you know, I think that's the catch 22.
02:41These kids always want to be quarterbacks because that's what they grew up playing.
02:44Haynes King, the former Georgia Tech quarterbacks with the Panthers.
02:47And I saw him talking about, yeah, I'll do the Taysom Hill role, but my goal is to be
02:52a quarterback.
02:53And it's like, okay, but you need to buy into the first thing so you can get to the, maybe
02:58you get to the point of the second.
02:58I really don't understand why more sixth round, seventh round undrafted quarterbacks aren't
03:02like jumping at the idea of being Taysom Hill.
03:05The man averaged 15 million a year for his final contract.
03:08Especially Talon Green.
03:09Like the thing that's weird about Haynes King is Haynes King's like 6'1", like 220 pounds.
03:15He is very athletic, but it's like, that's a, like Taysom Hill is a tight end in a quarterback's
03:21body that ended up being a tight end in the NFL, or a gadget player in the NFL.
03:25That's why I see it with Talon Green.
03:27And by the way, I think Talon Green's even more athletic than Taysom Hill was.
03:32Well, yeah.
03:33I mean, he might be one of the most athletic people we've seen at, not only at that spot,
03:36but just in general in the NFL in 25 years.
03:39But I do think like, I think when it comes to young quarterbacks, you just need to get
03:44on the field and develop.
03:45And I think that's the only, I know you can do mental reps.
03:47I know they have VR now that allows you to, so there are ways now that there weren't 20
03:52years ago to develop yourself a little bit.
03:56But in the end, you just need to get used to the speed of the NFL.
04:00And so I think Talon more so, like Shadour wasn't getting on the field as a gadget player,
04:04nor was Dylan Gabriel, nor was Kenny Pickett, nor was Joe Flacco.
04:09And so I think this is a really cool role for him.
04:13And now it becomes, okay, well, how many looks do you give him in training camp and in the
04:20preseason to try and see it?
04:22Because that's where I see it.
04:24If he's going to be a quarterback, that's a three-year-from-now conversation.
04:27Right now it is.
04:29Do you have enough to be in a spot where we can say, all right, you're going to be
04:33one of the 54 guys in this roster, and we're going to throw you out there on certain Sundays?
04:37I would imagine he's going to get a lot of what the Shadour treatment was last year.
04:40And the idea that he's going to have some preseason opportunities, some big preseason
04:44opportunities.
04:44And then when it comes to the actual reps with ones, it's just non-existent.
04:47Well, but I think that's where you can have a little bit of both.
04:52I think Talon should get reps with the ones as like a...
04:57As like the other role?
04:58Yeah, yeah.
04:58Like in the other role.
04:59I hear what you're saying, yeah.
05:00And then come in later as a third or fourth quarterback off the board there.
05:04I think that's the kind of...
05:06You just so rarely get a guy that you can deploy in multiple ways, and that means you
05:12can use him in multiple...
05:13I almost look at this as like an ultimate bonus grab.
05:16Like if all he is is an interesting gadget piece, then he's worth a six-round pick.
05:22But because you can get him on the field, there's a chance that you might get him enough reps
05:27that all of a sudden he does get comfortable.
05:29And maybe you can develop him.
05:31Like there's just so much more upside of a guy you can just get on the field in any way.
05:35And then you'll see from there, as opposed to a guy who, well, he's only a quarterback,
05:39and now you're just trying to develop an athletic monster into something more.
05:43Yeah, other funny thing out of this was the...
05:45So every beat reporter seemed like they were like, wow, he really is 6'5", 6'6",
05:48as if that was going to be like a guessing game.
05:49But then the other part of that was the idea that when you watch him throw, like mechanically,
05:54it does look very awkward.
05:55It's not right.
05:56Call that the Chase DeLauter.
05:57Yeah, yeah, exactly.
05:58Yeah.
05:59But at least with Chase DeLauter, it's like, oh, I see Chase Utley in Chase DeLauter.
06:03You know what I mean?
06:04Like there's instances of people that have that little short swing that he has,
06:08and you kind of point to and be like, that's successful.
06:10Right now, all he's got is a, he's got a funky arm motion and Anthony Richardson attached to his name.
06:16216-474-0092 with Taylon Green getting a lot of love out of Browns rookie minicamps.
06:22What can the Browns get out of Green this year?
06:24Now, Baskin and Phelps, we're talking quarterbacks today.
06:28And you know no one loves a crappy quarterback the way Jeff Phelps loves a crappy quarterback.
06:34Yeah, I can't tell when it started, but it peaked somewhere around like the Joe Milton experience.
06:38He's a broken man with love, with love.
06:41He does love just really crappy quarterbacks.
06:43He's watched so many crappy quarterbacks.
06:44Like I always joke, like when people are like, can you tell me if my team's going to be a
06:49winning team?
06:49I'm like, probably not.
06:50I don't know what that looks like.
06:51I'm a Cleveland sports fan.
06:52But if you told me, is my team going to be crappy?
06:56Oh, bank biscuit, do I got you covered there.
06:58That's the other guy.
06:58Oh, he fell in love with Hendon Hooker.
06:59That was the other guy he fell in love with.
07:01I think he just heard the last name and, you know, just fell in love.
07:06That doesn't seem on track for Phelps.
07:09Yeah, no.
07:09Yeah, thank you.
07:10Kalen was looking confused, so I wanted to make sure it was a hooker.
07:12Wasn't the Hendon part.
07:13Yeah, yeah.
07:14I was thinking about bringing up Jameis Winston or not, and that kind of stopped me right in my –
07:20Well, that was his most recent.
07:23I thought that was an Uber driver.
07:24The point is, none of it's good.
07:26None of it's good.
07:26But here is Baskin and Phelps talking quarterback intrigue for the Browns.
07:31The most intriguing quarterback in camp is Taylor Greene on the roster.
07:36Shadour is second.
07:37And then Dylan Gabriel and Deshaun are probably tied for third.
07:40Okay.
07:41Or Deshaun is third and Dylan's fourth.
07:43Unfortunately for Dylan, I don't think anybody's intrigued by him.
07:46But how can you not be intrigued by Taylor Greene?
07:48Six foot five and seven eighths, runs like crazy, has a big arm.
07:52Andy, that's intriguing.
07:54Give me your other list, though.
07:55I'll give you my intriguing list, and then I'll give –
07:57because I think Shadour Sanders is still the most intriguing quarterback on this roster.
08:01I mean, we saw a little bit last year.
08:03I'm wondering what it's going to look like this year when he's got some time, hopefully, to ramp up.
08:07Well, he's number two on my list of intrigue.
08:09Well, that's true.
08:10So in case the person who is the most intriguing on Jeff's list, which is Taylor Greene,
08:16cannot fulfill his obligations to be the most intriguing.
08:19To me, it's still Shadour Sanders.
08:21It's not even close.
08:23Like, I want to see what he can do.
08:24I want to put him in a situation where now he's got – let's see what the offensive line is.
08:29I just don't know.
08:33I just don't know.
08:34That clip has everything.
08:36That clip is so great.
08:38It's even better when you hear it online.
08:40I got it.
08:41Like, so Keith said that to us earlier.
08:43And you listen to it, you do like 17 different things.
08:46I missed half the things in that clip that make me love both of those guys.
08:49And the idea that Baskin didn't just light him up at first thought.
08:53He, like, entertained him.
08:54Well, I have Shadour, you know.
08:56And then Pelps' response is, well, I have him at number two.
09:00Yeah, clearly.
09:00Don't be ridiculous.
09:02He's right there.
09:02He's one below him.
09:03You're being the crazy one here, Baskin, for even threatening my idea.
09:07Also.
09:07He's going to call someone 6'5 and 7 and 8.
09:09Just call him 6'6.
09:11All right?
09:13Like, 6'5 and 7 and 8.
09:15He's looking at the NFL.com profile clearly.
09:17Yes.
09:18And he's, like, trying to see exactly what it is.
09:20Listen, there are times where you don't give someone the extra eighth of an inch.
09:24I think in the case that they're 6'5 and 7 and 8, I think you can call them 6
09:29'6.
09:29I don't think anyone's going to be like, wait, that man?
09:33He's clearly 6'5 and 7 and 8, you idiot.
09:36Then he put Deshaun tied with Dylan Gabriel.
09:40He couldn't even give him the edge over Dylan Gabriel.
09:43All right.
09:44He hasn't played a game in 700 days.
09:46Nothing interesting about that?
09:47Can we just play the first?
09:49I don't even know where the Andy Baskin thing, where Andy just goes, okay.
09:53Okay.
09:54Because he doesn't want to fight.
09:56Maybe that's just their style.
09:57I don't know.
09:58But, like, he didn't want to fight.
10:01No.
10:02Taylor Green is not the most intriguing quarterback with the Cleveland Browns.
10:05That still goes back to the guy who started seven games last year, won three of the four games, and
10:11made plays, although he also made a bunch of negative plays.
10:14It goes to Shador.
10:15If you want to give Taylor Green three, or two, I still don't think I can give two.
10:19You can't do two.
10:20The obvious fight in this answer is between Shador and Deshaun Watson, and it varies to who you ask.
10:26Now, who's the more intriguing gadget player?
10:30Oh, he's more interesting than Dylan Gabriel in general.
10:32Oh, no, I was saying gadget player.
10:33Casey Concepcion or Taylor Green?
10:35Oh, Concepcion by a wide mile.
10:38He no Recepcion.
10:39I don't know about that.
10:41He's a first-round pick.
10:43If he's just a gadget player, it's a massive failure.
10:45Whereas Taylor Green...
10:46It was wild, the amount of people that were willing to be like, he was dropping passes against nothing.
10:50Yeah.
10:51Well, no, but listen, he's a natural catcher.
10:54He just struggles with the drops.
10:56He's a natural catcher.
10:57He's a natural catcher.
10:57He's a natural catcher.
10:57He's a natural catcher.
10:57He's a natural catcher.
