00:00Am I calling him New Brown's quarterback?
00:03He is a New Brown. He is a quarterback.
00:06Okay. Talon Green.
00:08We had a vicious debate when Ken was in.
00:10Ken will be back tomorrow. Daryl is in for Kenny today.
00:13Vicious debate because I said, well, he should...
00:17If he wants to maximize his earnings in the NFL,
00:21the move to me is to start thinking about wide receivers,
00:25start thinking, and it's unclear how he's going to be used this year.
00:30Who is our comp for the Saints?
00:34Taysom Hill.
00:35He was the comp. I know they're not built the same way,
00:38but that a way that he could be used that could be functional for this team.
00:42Getting him on the field.
00:43Yeah, and there's no doubt.
00:44I feel like if he can make the roster and this doesn't kill him in other areas,
00:49like on special teams or whatever, depending on the 53,
00:52like, yeah, use him. Use him as a total gadget player.
00:56I have no problem with that.
00:58Daryl, do you think that... You're rolling your eyes.
01:00You don't think this guy can help them this season?
01:03In red zone, in different areas, different packages?
01:06I think we're talking about quarterbacks for the sake of talking about quarterbacks.
01:12I'm not into the gadget thing.
01:14I really am not.
01:17If you're really going to evaluate your quarterback situation this year,
01:21then evaluate it, okay?
01:23Whether it's the Sean or Shadour or somebody else,
01:27have them on the field in those critical situations,
01:31in those red zone situations, and that's what it's going to be.
01:34The results will be what they're going to be.
01:38Because you're not going to learn anything by doing the gadget stuff.
01:43Now, if you have an established starting quarterback,
01:48for me, the conversation changes completely.
01:50But you don't.
01:51You're trying to figure it out.
01:53And I think Todd Munkin kind of said that,
01:58you know, we're not going to see much of this guy
02:00because, well, they've got other guys.
02:05So, yeah, I just roll my eyes in all this talk about,
02:09oh, he's going to be the gadget guy.
02:10They're going to find a way to put him on the field this year.
02:12Well, I think the way he's going to find his way to the field
02:15is if there are circumstances in which the Browns have to do
02:20what they typically have to do,
02:21and that's play three, four quarterbacks in the season.
02:23Well, Todd Munkin, your head coach,
02:25addressed this over the weekend, too.
02:27I am shocked.
02:29Daryl, I thought you would be very open to all avenues
02:33to try to figure out how to get a weapon on the football field,
02:36especially as inept as their offense was last year.
02:40Man, people have got to go on YouTube
02:41and see the faces Daryl's making.
02:43Here's Todd Munkin, your head coach.
02:49Todd Munkin, your head coach of the Cleveland Browns,
02:52was interviewed at the press conference.
02:55He was asked at the press conference.
02:56And Owen turned on his pot, and here is Todd Munkin.
03:00Anybody with that kind of athleticism, I think,
03:03should he progress in certain areas of his game,
03:06I think there would be a possibility of him,
03:09whether it's short yardage, you know,
03:12once you get in the low red zone,
03:13maybe some third down stuff that we could utilize.
03:17So, you hear him here.
03:18I mean, you're just trying to get creative, right?
03:20Now, look, in the end, he was a six-round pick.
03:23These guys, especially a quarterback,
03:26like what percentage of them ever, ever make it,
03:29but they're looking at just a freak athlete
03:31who had some of the great Combine scores.
03:32Yeah, set a bunch of quarterback records.
03:35Yeah.
03:35Broad jump.
03:36He's jumping 11 feet on the broad jump.
03:38Yeah, that's insane.
03:40Four yards out, just give him the ball,
03:42let him jump over everyone.
03:44I mean, that to me is,
03:46you're looking for sort of some non-conventional thought
03:50for a team that has been stuck in the mud offensively
03:53for so long and looking for any way
03:55that they can get creative and try to score points.
03:58I'm just amused that we are having a legitimate conversation
04:03about the first pick in the sixth round of the NFL draft
04:07being expected or thought to be counted on
04:12to have some sort of impact this year.
04:15Like, I just, I guess I should believe it
04:19because we're in Cleveland.
04:20Well, Taysom Hill was undrafted.
04:23So, and they found a way.
04:25Is he still in the NFL?
04:27I know he didn't, I don't think he did much this year.
04:29But, I mean, he has, he's played quarterback.
04:32He's run the ball.
04:33As a former Saints fan, I hated the Taysom Hill package.
04:38I did.
04:39So you probably really didn't like his contract either
04:41since he continued to sign.
04:42No, I would, I, I just, I don't, yeah.
04:48Because here's the thing for me with, like,
04:50the gimmicks and the gadgets and stuff.
04:53Like, teams pick up on that, right?
04:56And when you put certain personnel on the field,
04:58you have to do it in a way in which you don't telegraph
05:01what you're doing.
05:02The Browns got lucky last year.
05:04Remember when they would line Quinshawn up,
05:07you know, behind center?
05:09Yeah, Wildcattish.
05:10Yeah, the Wildcattish stuff, right?
05:12That caused a big brouhaha
05:14because they did it when Shador Sanders was starting.
05:17And Quinn, and Quinshawn scored touchdowns.
05:21But, by the way, because everybody forgot,
05:24Dylan Gabriel stunk to high heaven.
05:27And they did it, by the way, with him as well.
05:30They didn't do it just with Shador.
05:32They did it with Dylan Gabriel.
05:34But, yeah, you can't talk about that
05:35because they were only trying to stick at the Shador
05:37and not give him those red zone opportunities.
05:40Like, that kind of stuff I don't have a problem with.
05:42And eventually, guess what happened?
05:43Teams figured out what the Browns were doing
05:46and they started stopping it.
05:48It took five touchdowns to be scored
05:50for them to, you know, get the bit.
05:52But, like, yeah, the gadget stuff,
05:55if you do too much of it,
05:57you tip your hand and telegraph what you're going to do.
05:59I just wish, I wish they could get a little more creative
06:02in the NFL in general.
06:03Like, here comes Taylor Greene.
06:05Oh, you know the Browns are going to run
06:06in these three plays.
06:07Well, see, and that's why I don't understand
06:09why it has to be like that.
06:10And that's why I feel like the league is so...
06:12Do you want to give a whole series?
06:13Well, these coaches are so dogmatic.
06:14Hey, it's the third quarter.
06:16The Browns are down 14.
06:16They did that with Lamar Jackson in his rookie year.
06:19He had certain packages that he ran.
06:21They brought him in.
06:21And eventually, it was to see if he could become
06:23the starting quarterback.
06:25Joe Flacco was not very good in the offense that year.
06:27And they had to make the change, right?
06:29He was also a first-round pick, right, Lamar?
06:32Right.
06:33Again, we're talking about...
06:34Good for you, yeah.
06:35I mean...
06:35We're talking about...
06:37I just...
06:37Yeah, but are you telling me...
06:38But we're acting like this doesn't happen in the NFL.
06:40No, no, no.
06:40I'm not acting like it doesn't happen in the NFL.
06:42I just...
06:43I'm just trying to keep some perspective
06:44of, like, what this guy is.
06:47Perspective's the key word here.
06:49Where they picked him, okay?
06:51And I just don't want to get fans
06:52all hyped and hopped up on,
06:54yeah, the Browns are going to do all this stuff,
06:56and then we're going to get in the regular season
06:58and we're going to be like,
06:58hey, what about all that Taylor Greene stuff
07:01that everyone was talking about
07:03was going to happen in the offseason?
07:04Like, I just...
07:05From my perspective,
07:06I have no expectation
07:09that they're going to tangibly try
07:11and use this guy,
07:12especially early in the season.
07:13Now, we get into November and December, Owen,
07:17then, yeah, I can maybe see them
07:19messing around and whatever.
07:21But I think early in the season,
07:23I think Todd Munkin is going to play it straight.
07:27I always wonder why
07:29we can't see a little more creative...
07:31In the NFL, obviously, stuff comes and goes.
07:34That Wildcat thing that Miami...
07:36Well, Josh Cribs did it when he was here.
07:38Yeah, yeah.
07:39But a lot of it doesn't have staying power,
07:41to your point, Daryl.
07:42Like, a lot of it just starts as a gimmick
07:44and ends as a gimmick.
07:46Yeah, because teams pick it up.
07:47Yeah.
07:47They figure it out.
07:49Man, I look at this dude's athletic ability.
07:50The only play teams haven't figured out
07:51is the tush push.
07:52Like, that's the only...
07:54Like, no one has figured out
07:55how to stop the Philadelphia Eagles
07:56doing the tush push.
07:58And they've done it a billion times, right?
08:01That, to me, that's the one play
08:03that has not been...
08:05Oh, their success rate went down this year.
08:07It did go down, but I love the branches off of it.
08:10And a lot of it was because
08:11the personnel that were involved in it.
08:13Yeah.
08:14A certain center retired.
08:16I just know this.
08:17Like, if Terrell Pryor...
08:19I know it was a one-off season
08:20where he caught 1,000 yards.
08:22Like, you're telling me,
08:23Talon Green,
08:24if his hands are as good as people
08:25have said that they are
08:26that have covered him,
08:28like, why couldn't Talon Green...
08:30I agree with you that
08:30if he's good enough
08:32to have a gimmick package
08:33as a quarterback,
08:34he's good enough to go out
08:35and get, you know,
08:36four or five routes
08:38that he can run,
08:39whatever two routes that he runs
08:40as a wide receiver,
08:42he's good enough to...
08:43What a matchup nightmare.
08:43...on a, you know,
08:45end-around reverse,
08:46maybe try to get him there
08:47and get him in some open space.
08:49It is.
08:50It's all gimmick.
08:51There is nothing that...
08:52But that's what you get
08:53with a 6'6 guy
08:54that runs a 4'3".
08:55Right.
08:56Like, the whole thing's a gimmick.
08:58Sometimes when you're
08:59the Cleveland Browns
09:00and things haven't worked
09:01for you for 30 years,
09:02gimmicks are what
09:03you have to turn to.
09:04I just go back to
09:05Andrew Barry's reaction
09:10when he was...
09:11After the draft,
09:12I think it was, like,
09:13during the draft,
09:13like, they had made...
09:14They had one pick
09:15to make or something.
09:16Andrew came down
09:18and he was asked
09:19about that, you know,
09:21receiver moving
09:21to another position
09:23and Andrew almost
09:25appeared offended
09:26by the question.
09:27He's like,
09:27no, he's a quarterback.
09:28Well, yeah, I mean,
09:29if they were to bring him in,
09:30it would not just be
09:32to run the ball.
09:32You have to have
09:33the threat of the pass
09:34there, too,
09:35and he's going to
09:35throw the ball some.
09:36You have to have
09:38a...
09:40That's where he's...
09:41Sizable's not the right word,
09:42but you have to have,
09:44I think,
09:44a little bit
09:45of an expansive
09:46repertoire to use him.
09:48But that's where
09:48the difference
09:49between him running it
09:50and Quinshawn running it.
09:51Quinshawn was never
09:52going to, you know,
09:53drop back in the deal
09:55and throw the ball,
09:56you know,
09:56other than maybe
09:57a one-time,
09:58and I'm not expecting
09:59to see anything
10:00but a wobbling duck
10:01that maybe gets
10:02to a tight end.
10:02Yeah, this is different.
10:03Yeah, this would be
10:04much...
10:04This is an added dimension.
10:05Especially when you add
10:06outside receiving threats
10:07like they did in the draft.
10:09I mean,
10:10you would hope
10:10that it would all
10:11come together.
10:11But once again,
10:12yes, six-round pick.
10:14Very hard for it,
10:16although he's trying
10:17to unseat a fifth-round pick
10:18and a guy who hasn't
10:20played since 2020.
10:21Right.
10:22And look,
10:22the size,
10:24like the physical tools
10:26are there.
10:27You see it.
10:28There's potential.
10:29And I'm not being
10:30dismissive of that.
10:31No, you seemed
10:32a little dismissive
10:33at the start of the segment.
10:33No, I just don't think
10:35that, like...
10:36I just...
10:37I'm trying to temper
10:38expectations for this kid.
10:40As a six-round pick.
10:41He's a six-round pick.
10:43If they find a use for him,
10:45if he turns into something
10:47for them,
10:47great.
10:48I just...
10:49My expectations
10:50are very low
10:52at this point.
