01:30A funny thing happened to me on my way to my cartoon show.
01:42And if you step this way, folks, we'll continue with our tour of the Cat Museum.
01:47Now, this wing honors some of the true heroes of catdom.
01:51This is Dr. E. Leopold Witsnitsky.
01:54This man wasted over six million dollars trying to perfect an inflatable scratching post.
02:00Dumb.
02:01And this exhibit honors Buttons, the cat who set the world's horse-swallowing record when he successfully swallowed one horse.
02:09Tied for second place as everyone else in the entire world.
02:13And that's the Klopman Diamond.
02:17But what I really want to show you is out here.
02:22This lake is very important in the history of cats.
02:25There's a legend associated with this lake.
02:28If you'd like to hear it...
02:31Good! I'll tell it.
02:34The legend of the lake.
02:36Inverse, no less.
02:38A couple thousand years ago, or maybe even more, a band of prehistoric cats was living on the shore.
02:45They were a savage breed of cat you'd never want to meet.
02:49And what really made them savage was the food they had to eat.
02:53For breakfast, they would dine on mud.
02:55For lunch, a rock or two.
02:57And dinner time was quite a treat when serving guppy stew.
03:09Each night they eat alleged food, then celebrate and dance.
03:13But one was just not satisfied to dine on rocks and ants.
03:17A handsome, hungry cat was he, and truly a gourmet.
03:22He knew the food he wanted, and he'd dream of it all day.
03:25For far across the waters was an island lush and green.
03:29And every day he looked again to drool at what he'd seen.
03:32For growing on this isle were the famed lasagna trees,
03:36a sight to bring a feline who was starving to his knees.
03:40But sadly, the lasagna trees were miles out of reach
03:44and guarded by a band of wild puppies on the beach.
03:49The other cats attempted to drive sense into his head.
03:53To make it to the island was impossible, they said.
03:55But every night lasagna trees were present in his dream.
03:59And finally he knew he had to figure out a scheme.
04:02So come the dawn, he built a sturdy boat within his cave
04:06to take him to the land of all the pasta he could crave.
04:10His girlfriend said,
04:11You cannot make this trip, I will not let you.
04:14If by some chance you get across, the puppy dogs will get you.
04:17He said, I'm sick of eating only mud and rocks and guppies.
04:21No lake will keep me from my dream, and neither will some puppies.
04:25And so with just his bark canoe, some courage and a smile,
04:29he launched into the water and set out for the isle.
04:32No lake could stop our hero from the food that he did seek.
04:36No obstacle could stop him.
04:38Well, perhaps a little leak.
04:40The ship had started sinking when he gave a little shout
04:45and quickly drilled another hole to let the water out.
04:58But that did not dissuade him, not one moment at a loss.
05:02He built a catapult designed to hurl him right across.
05:07A slightest calculation in his blueprints was to blame.
05:11He'd figured out the whole thing, but neglected first to aim.
05:17Give up, the other cats all cried,
05:20and though their voice was heard, he didn't heed their warning.
05:23He would fly there like a bird.
05:25At first the wings just wouldn't work, and then it seemed they might.
05:29The trouble was he hadn't tied the wings on very tight.
05:35It was, I guess, a brave thing and a most courageous try,
05:39but cats he had forgotten were never meant to fly.
05:43For days he thought and thought and thought and thought and thought and thought.
05:47He'd look out at the island and he'd feel most distraught,
05:51for there was the lasagna blooming in the sun to bake
05:55and blocking him the puppies and, oh yeah, the lovely lake.
06:00He would not be defeated, let a lake stand in his way.
06:04He vowed that he would feast on fresh lasagna plants today.
06:07He wouldn't jump or sail or attempt to even try.
06:11He'd swim to reach that island or he'd perish in the trine.
06:15He swam with all his might to reach the island in the distance.
06:19The other cats could only watch and marvel at persistence.
06:22He swam as hard as he could swim to reach the other side.
06:26He might not reach lasagna, but at least he'd know he'd tried.
06:30He swam for seven hours till he'd swum his final stroke.
06:35Waves washed him onto the shore, which is where he awoke.
06:40Excitedly, he realized it had been worth the chance.
06:43He'd made it to the island where there grow lasagna plants.
06:47You've never in your life seen such a happy, happy beast.
06:51No puppy dog would keep this kitty from his pasta feast.
06:55He swam across the lake, but what he didn't realize was prehistoric puppy dogs were five whole times his size.
07:15Pursued by giant puppies, there was one course he could take.
07:19Though all his strength had brought him here, he dove into the lake.
07:24He never more was seen again.
07:27He vanished in his swim.
07:29And so to mark his memory, they named this lake for him.
07:33They called it Lake Stupid.
