12 June - National morning forecast presented by Alex Burkill.
Transcript
00:00Things will be turning drier and warmer as we head into the weekend, but before that, well, today's looking drier
00:07than it has been through much of this week, but definitely not totally dry.
00:11There's a frontal system across the country at the moment, and we've already seen a few outbreaks of rain this
00:17morning, and there's a bit more rain to come through the day.
00:19Just worth noting that any showers that push through, they're not going to be as heavy or as intense as
00:24the showers that we've seen through much of this week.
00:26That being said, yes, some outbreaks of rain across parts of England, Wales, particularly towards the west through the morning,
00:31feeding a bit further eastwards, but breaking up as they go into the afternoon.
00:35Meanwhile, plenty of blustery showers across parts of Scotland and a few affecting parts of Northern Ireland and perhaps the
00:41far north of England too.
00:42Like I said, these showers are not quite as intense or as heavy as the ones that we've seen through
00:47this week, less chance of seeing any thunder and hail, which has been quite a story so far.
00:52After quite a cloudy start to the day, things should brighten up for most of us.
00:56There should be some sunshine breaking through in between any bursts of rain, and it is going to be a
01:00bit warmer than it has been recently as well.
01:02Temperatures towards central and southeastern parts looking to get to highs of around 23 or 24 Celsius, and quite widely,
01:09we're looking at mid to high teens or low 20s for much of the country.
01:13But worth factoring in, there is a bit of a breeze around, so that is going to make it feel
01:17a little bit cooler.
01:19Showery rain affecting parts of Scotland as we go overnight further south.
01:22It's a drier, clearer picture.
01:24Still quite a breeze around, so that's going to stop temperatures dropping a huge amount.
01:28But worth bearing in mind, there could be some low clouds and murkiness perhaps towards some parts of the southwest.
01:33Like I said, though, temperatures not dropping a huge amount.
01:35Most places staying in double figures, particularly your towns and cities.
01:39Some rural spots just dropping below where we get the clearer skies towards the south,
01:43and also some more sheltered areas over parts of Scotland just about dropping into single figures.
01:48So through Saturday morning, a north-south split to start off with.
01:52Cloudier, wetter across northern parts.
01:54Still quite blustery, breezy here, and there will be further outbreaks of rain.
01:58These continuing for a time as we go into the afternoon.
02:01Further south across central and southern parts of England and Wales, much of northern Ireland as well.
02:05It's looking largely dry.
02:06Plenty of sunshine as well.
02:08Temperatures on paper will be, well, around average, maybe a little bit lower in some places, particularly towards the north.
02:14Towards the south, a little bit higher.
02:17Again, we could be looking at highs of around 23, maybe 24 Celsius for some southern parts.
02:21But further north with more cloud, blustery winds still, and some outbreaks of rain still are a relatively cool feel.
02:27Kind of similar to what we've had through much of this week in many respects.
02:31Looking ahead to Sunday, and it is likely to be the drier day of the weekend, really.
02:35Yes, there could be some showers across some parts of the north later on, and a few showery bursts towards
02:40some eastern and western parts as well.
02:43And a bit of a blustery wind around these eastern areas as well.
02:46But otherwise, a lot of fine weather, some decent sunshine, especially towards the west.
02:51And it's likely to be a little bit warmer than on Saturday for most.
02:55Not all in the east with a bit more cloud and that breeze coming through here.
02:59Temperatures may be a little bit lower than on Saturday, but further west, we have some warmer air coming in.
03:04So temperatures are likely to rise a little bit higher.
03:07Now, there are some signs that we could see temperatures rising even further as we go through next week.
03:11To find out more about that, we'll join Annie and me for our weather studio live later on.
03:15Bye-bye.
