04 May - National Morning forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst
Transcript
00:00Good morning and welcome to your latest weather forecast from the Met Office.
00:05A change on the way this week and we can see that on the bigger picture.
00:08Looking at the air mass charts, a colder northerly airflow setting in towards the middle of the week.
00:14But it doesn't last too long before milder air returns.
00:17But we'll all notice a chill in the air as we move through the middle of the week.
00:22And you see the yellows returning by Friday.
00:25This morning, quite a great start to bank holiday Monday.
00:28Some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle, some hill fog in places.
00:31But there is some sunshine too, particularly across southern counties of England.
00:35Also parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland seeing some sunny spells develop as we move through the morning.
00:41But into the afternoon, as the sunshine strengthens, we see the risk of some heavy showers developing.
00:46Particularly across southern parts of England and Wales.
00:49So moving through the afternoon, some of these showers could be heavy and thundery at times.
00:54Some hail in there too. They could cause some tricky travelling conditions.
00:58But they will be through a narrow slice. Elsewhere there will be some sunny spells.
01:03The rest of England and Wales are rather cloudy, but some brighter spells at times.
01:07Temperatures under the cloud are around 13 to 15 degrees.
01:10They're feeling warmer for northeastern parts of England compared to Sunday.
01:14In the sunshine in the south, still rather humid, 19 degrees here.
01:18But colder air starting to filter in from the north.
01:21So northern Scotland here, Lurwick for example, just 5 or 6 degrees come the afternoon.
01:27And as we head through the evening time, this weather system across northern Scotland continues to give showery outbreaks of
01:33rain as it pushes southwards into parts of Northern Ireland, Northern England.
01:36But it does fragment as it does so.
01:38Some wintry showers starting to follow behind this into the early hours.
01:41Elsewhere, some longer clear spells starting to develop.
01:45And with a light northerly wind, there could be some mist and fog patches forming.
01:49But more widely, temperatures falling into single figures.
01:52So it does mean a chillier start to Tuesday morning for most of us.
01:55But a bright start, some spells of sunshine, some areas of cloud and showery rain drifting southwards on that northerly
02:01breeze.
02:02Showers most frequent across Scotland, falling as snow over the mountains.
02:06And some outbreaks of rain pushing into northern England through the day as well.
02:10But plenty of dry weather around too, particularly across central western parts of England and Wales here.
02:15Some sunny spells and temperatures for all of us will be lower.
02:19We're looking at the range of 8 to 15 degrees, perhaps 16 to 18 across the far southeast.
02:25But it will feel necessarily colder for all.
02:27And that colder air will continue to sink its way southwards as we head towards Wednesday.
02:32The risk of some showers around, but some sunny spells in between.
02:35Further showers on Thursday as well, perhaps a little drier come Friday.
02:40And temperatures widely close to, if not below average, on Wednesday.
02:44But slowly recovering once more as we head towards the end of the week and into the weekend.
