12 April - National evening forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, good evening. Welcome to your latest Met Office forecast.
00:04Low pressure still dominates our weather at the moment, but it is slowly moving away over the next 24 hours.
00:11It means for Monday the UK is between weather systems, so there's still plenty of showers around
00:15ahead of further frontal systems moving in from the Atlantic as we go through into Tuesday.
00:22So let's look at the details for Sunday evening.
00:24Still a lot of showers across the UK, but they should start to ease over the coming hours,
00:30and that means lengthier clear skies overnight.
00:32It's been quite a chilly day and a chilly air mass across the UK,
00:36so with lighter winds and those clear skies, it will allow the temperatures to drop away.
00:41In terms of cities, mid to low single figures in the countryside, minus one, minus two in places.
00:46There will still be some showers around, largely around coasts, and most frequent there across
00:50north-west Scotland, where they will still be on the heavy side at times, the risk of some snow
00:55over the mountains too.
00:58So a chilly start to Monday morning, but plenty of blue skies to greet us.
01:03However, as we move through the morning, the shower clouds start bubbling up once more,
01:07and we'll see by the afternoon plenty of showers across the whole of the UK.
01:11Some of these could be on the heavy side, the risk of hail and thunder in there too,
01:15just like we've seen over the last few days.
01:17What is slightly different is the winds are generally lighter for all of us,
01:21so it does mean those showers will be a little slower moving.
01:25So if you do catch one, it may be around for a little longer.
01:28And in terms of temperatures, very similar to recent days,
01:31for most of us reaching double figures highs, generally between 13 and 15 degrees.
01:36So in the sunshine, if you avoid the showers, it won't feel too bad out there at all.
01:41It's Monday evening time, those showers start to fade once again.
01:44We lose the warmth of that sunshine, and it allows overnight those skies to clear
01:50and the temperatures to fall once more.
01:52So the further north and east you are, a frost is likely.
01:56However, further west, the next weather system already starting to show its hand
01:59across parts of southwest Wales into the west country,
02:03an increasing risk of some rain here as we head towards the end of the night.
02:08Towns of cities again, low single figures in the countryside.
02:11Temperatures not far off, if not a little below freezing to start Tuesday morning,
02:15but plenty of sunshine across the north and the east once more.
02:19The cloud and the rain across the southwest will slowly push northeastwards
02:23as we move through the day, so clouding over across northern Ireland
02:26into the Midlands, central southern England with some patchy rain possible.
02:29Eventually, the cloud reaching eastern parts of England,
02:32best of the sunshine holding on across central and northern parts of Scotland.
02:37And with winds coming in from the south, it does start to import some slightly warmer air.
02:41So despite the increasing mats of cloud, temperatures a little higher, 15, possibly 16 Celsius,
02:47still a little chilly air holding on across the far northeast of Scotland,
02:51but some sunshine to compensate here.
02:54Over into the week ahead, we're going to stay fairly changeable.
02:59Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, always the risk of some showers,
03:03perhaps some longer spells of rain at times too.
03:05But winds will always be coming in from a southerly direction,
03:08so importing some warm air at times though, where we do get the sunnier breaks.
03:13Temperatures a little above average, 16, 17, possibly locally 18 Celsius towards the southeast.
