00:00So then Sunday is just a byproduct of the work you put in.
00:05Todd Munkin with us in studio just moments ago.
00:07That was the cat's ass.
00:09He's still telling stories.
00:10We had to get him out of here.
00:11We had to usher him out of here so we could get the segment going.
00:15He's great.
00:16Sire him out of here.
00:17He is great.
00:19Loves the horses.
00:22I can listen to that guy talk all day.
00:24I can listen to coaches talk all day.
00:27That was awesome.
00:28That was awesome.
00:29I'm looking at the reaction.
00:30A lot of people are excited.
00:31A lot of people are excited.
00:33Honestly, hearing him, I want to know if he made a difference in how people feel about how the season
00:38is going to go.
00:39I know we're in the afterglow and I know that I'm an idiot and I'm an emotional person.
00:43So I will be like that.
00:45But I'm like, you know, when we're all sitting here and I'm going, you know, because I remember last year
00:50and I kept it down and I kept it down.
00:52And then the week started right before week one.
00:55And people are like, Kenny, you're being kind of a downer.
00:57And I got mad.
00:58And so I decided to go overboard.
01:00But when I hear that, I'm like, man, it's hard for me to not start saying eight, nine, ten wins,
01:05things like that.
01:06Does that make a difference to you?
01:08Because there's just a lot of common sense in there.
01:09Now, there's a lot of things that have to work out.
01:12He ain't no dummy.
01:13There's a lot of things that have to go their way.
01:16But there's just, there's a lot of common sense.
01:21And, God, I listen to him talk all day.
01:22Well, just listen to him talking about how, we've had the comments before about how much he hates bad football.
01:29But he says, because it makes you look dumb.
01:32And he was, he made sure to point out ahead of time, he goes, hey, Stefanski's a good coach.
01:37You know, it's not going to say anything bad about Stefanski.
01:39But we all know it.
01:40Like, when you pull up the film from the last few years, everybody looked dumb.
01:44And he knows that if they come out and don't play well, he and his coaching staff are going to
01:50look dumb.
01:50And so they are obviously determined.
01:52But, you know, it's a tough league.
01:5432 coaches are trying to do that.
01:55He loves the draft.
01:56You can tell.
01:57There are guys, you know, there's lip service you pay because you want to make sure to play nice with
02:02an organization.
02:04He loves his draft.
02:05I mean, he's giddy about it, even off air.
02:07He is giddy about this draft just as much as everybody is at home and all the guys that do
02:12this for a living.
02:12So that gives you a start.
02:14And then the character thing.
02:15And he said, yeah, in a perfect world, you'd like to have a whole team full of orange dots that
02:20are also freak athletes and are experienced and have a wife and kids and sit down and watch the voice.
02:26This is what he said, meaning guys aren't going to get into trouble.
02:29You'd love to do that.
02:31But it's not always easy.
02:33But in this draft, I mean, they clearly prioritized it.
02:36And I do think we use, we throw the term culture around, hey, maybe when you're winning games and then
02:41you can take some chances on some guys like that.
02:44But this draft, to me, Kenny, that was one of my big takeaways that that was something they wanted to
02:50help shape the identity of this football team.
02:52Well, because you're going to have to come out, when you have a kind of a weaker draft, as we
02:57saw, right, you are going to have to look at character.
03:00You're going to have to look at, again, I wanted to use the term solid, which somebody from the Browns
03:05asked me yesterday at the groundbreaking, give me three adjectives.
03:07And I had to ask what an adjective was because I don't remember any of that stuff.
03:10But when you have what the draft gave you, which, again, I think they're really excited about Parker Brailsford.
03:17And I know people, he brought up the side, the first thing he brought up was people's concern about the
03:20size.
03:21And I know that it's technically a different era, two or from a bygone era, like Mark Stepnowski, Mark Stepnowski
03:27is one of my favorite centers ever from the Cowboys.
03:29The late, great Mike Webster, who was one of the greatest do it, if not the greatest center to ever
03:34do it.
03:35Those were both undersized guys.
03:36I know that was a different line or a different era of football.
03:41I think that you don't have to be 6'8 to be a center in the league.
03:46Now, we'll see where he goes.
03:47Obviously, like there's Luke Whipler that's there that I know that they still like.
03:50But if you were able to find five or six, excuse me, four or five guys that can end up
03:55being starters, not just starters because they have to start for you,
03:58but also guys who are starters that are going to be able to contribute to being a better football team,
04:03well, it goes without saying how much better that this has been over the last couple of years.
04:06And it goes without saying that we still have a question of quarterback.
04:09But if we have to pick that quarterback going into 2027, I think a lot of people are going to
04:13be feeling a lot better about the guy making the choices.
04:16That all said, he's the guy who's got to be the one to put him in position.
04:19And there have been situations where I think that, I mean, we have seen a guy flat out, and he
04:26was the offensive coordinator for him.
04:28Let's call it what it was.
04:28He was an assistant for a guy who was in over his head.
04:33And we love Freddie.
04:35We love Freddie.
04:36It was fun to be around.
04:38I mean, when he's doing call-ins out of nowhere on the show.
04:41Amazing.
04:41That was a hoot.
04:43But you've got to keep him organized because 2019, 2019 is a lost year.
04:48And you only have, I mean, we're looking at him at, let's be honest with you.
04:52You've got Denzel, who was out there at the groundbreaking yesterday.
04:55And Denzel, he's a Clevelander for life.
04:57He'll probably be a part of the organization for life, even after retirement, probably part of the organization in some
05:02fashion if he wants it.
05:04So I think that there's definitely reasons that are outside of just being on the field that Denzel Ward would
05:08be there.
05:09But you wonder, like, okay, is Denzel Ward actually going to play in the new stadium in four years?
05:13Is he actually going to do that?
05:15And I think a lot of people are like, oh, yeah, but, you know, he's a Brown for life, so
05:18we'll see.
05:19But you go back to 2019, you go, that's a lost year.
05:21It's a wasted year.
05:22Like, you take these guys, you know damn well there's talent, there's been talent on this football team, and you've
05:27wasted years because of disorganization, like in 2019, bad trade, like in 2021 to 2022, bad drafting.
05:40There have been some bad picks, but that also leads to where your organization is.
05:45Are guys on the offensive line?
05:46You know, you'll have to ask this question.
05:48Jed Wills, the best of Jed Wills was done with Bill Callahan.
05:52We didn't have Bill Callahan.
05:54Then you made the wrong hire for offensive line coach, and then you got the worst of just about everybody.
06:00And so it's a long way of saying it that it's all got to add up.
06:04Like, everything plays off of each other.
06:06So even if we get that quarterback, you guys know damn well because we've had a guy who played pretty
06:12well quarterback here recently in the last 10 years.
06:15It wasn't God's gift, but he's a fine enough quarterback.
06:19It still takes more than just that guy who's got a good arm and can see the field and do
06:23all those things.
06:24You've got to have all your stuff together.
06:25Look down at Cincinnati.
06:27They've got a guy who can definitely be a Hall of Famer down there.
06:30They actually have the guy.
06:30And I know he can't stay healthy, but they can't get their you-know-what together.
06:33And now they're wondering whether or not he's going to threaten to leave them.
06:38I was looking at your face while I was asking the question about international headlines when it comes to Shador.
06:46I was like, he's asking.
06:46I was like, I know he's going to ask the question.
06:48He's asking the question that God he had.
06:49And then I was looking to see if Todd's demeanor at all changed, if he was starting to do that.
06:55Oh, God.
06:56Why do you got to?
06:56He didn't.
06:57He literally looked me right in the eyes.
06:59And he said exactly what Ken said.
07:01I mean, you should take a victory lap.
07:02He's like, we're the wrong people.
07:04If we're going to let any of that stuff distract us, we're the wrong people.
07:08And, you know, he mentioned, he said that was her opinion.
07:11I mean, he said that is her opinion and her reporting.
07:15Notice he did not reject it.
07:17He did not take the opportunity to reject it.
07:20That's true.
07:21I was waiting to see if he would, but he didn't.
07:25But he said the common sense of what you said.
07:29Yeah, we're the wrong people to have this job if we can't handle the outside.
07:32And he heard it on the way in, but that's why I lost my mind earlier.
07:35I'm like, guys, in our world, yes, it's a distraction.
07:38Yes, we argue with each other.
07:39And there have been plenty of Browns fans who've sent me emails, called in.
07:42And, yeah, there have been a couple of guys going, Kenny, why are we wasting our time with this kid?
07:46And I'm thinking, guys, their world is different from our world.
07:50And ask yourself this question.
07:52What has he done to be a problem for the organization?
07:56He ain't done anything to be a problem for the organization.
07:58In fact, I think he's been a net plus for the organization, considering the things he's done off the field,
08:03considering the people he's talked to off the field.
08:05He's been in way more social situations here in the city of Cleveland than a lot of guys out there
08:10who are higher than fifth-round picks, for crying out loud.
08:13I mean, you've made quarterback-to-quarterback comparisons.
08:16I mean, it's not a distraction when you take a Friday night and go to a high school game.
08:21It's not a distraction when, during the off-season in July,
08:25you go over to a local high school and work out with the kids.
08:27Now, it's not a campaign.
08:30We're not voting for Shador.
08:32He's selected by his head coach.
08:34But we have to make the difference.
08:37And sometimes it's a much better thing.
08:39Take it from me.
08:40It's a much better thing to just put the phone down or take the app off for the weekend
08:44instead of getting into it all over.
08:47We can't vote on him.
08:48If it was a vote, he'd win in a landslide.
08:51But it's not that way.
08:52So if you're a Browns fan, we've got to hope for it.
08:55We'll see what happens.
08:55I mean, if Deshaun's picked, we've got to hope for it to work out.
08:59We've got to see what happens there.
09:00And if they call upon Shador Sanders, we've got to do the same damn thing.
09:03If it happened with Dylan Gabriel, I'd probably pass out because I'd be so surprised.
09:10But still, we'd have to support it me as best I possibly could.
09:17But I just think that that answer to me was like, yes, you've given us a clean.
09:22And it wasn't like, keep us in the dark.
09:24I mean, Kevin was great.
09:26Nice guy.
09:26But Kevin would keep you in the dark.
09:28It's like, no.
09:29Because he can't go out there.
09:31And I know we were all in high school.
09:33And that's where it ended for us, for a lot of us playing.
09:36Like, Kevin can't go out there.
09:37Or, excuse me.
09:38Todd can't go out there in front of the team and start talking about a guy's brother.
09:42You know, you wouldn't do that.
09:44Like, if Jeff Miller started talking about my dad in a meeting over something my dad said,
09:50we're going to have a problem.
09:51You're having a private conversation?
09:52You can have a private conversation and handle this like men do, like co-workers would.
09:59But you aren't going to sit there and rip on my dad or anything in my family in front of
10:03our co-workers.
10:04Say what you want.
10:05No head coach wants TMZ reporting about the brothers, the dads, the sisters.
10:10None of them want it.
10:11You guys can say that you don't believe that.
10:15I can just tell you, we've talked to coaches.
10:17They want nothing.
10:18But it's the same thing.
10:20It certainly doesn't help.
10:22It doesn't help.
10:23You know, we talked about the whole, and I didn't want to, but I know we had to,
10:26when Dylan Gabriel's girlfriend had that video.
10:29Kevin wasn't talking about that in front of the team and neither is Todd.
10:32Like, that ain't going to happen.
10:34We will talk about it, but that's where it's like, guys, that is what I meant by it.
10:39This whole internet stuff, that ain't real life.
10:41Out there on the road, people talk to you about the Browns.
10:44They don't talk about that stuff as much.
10:46I mean, you get a couple of questions.
10:47You get a couple of people wondering, was it even worth it?
10:49Other than that, it's like, what did you think of the draft?
10:51How good can we possibly be?
10:53That's what's real to them.
10:54I like Todd Munkin so much.
10:56Don't take this the wrong way.
10:58There's two things I want to get off my chest before, because we got to get calves and everything
11:01like that.
11:01There's two things I got to get off my chest.
11:05One, he is so affable that it makes me want to make one of them stupid pony guarantees.
11:11Like, people were tweeting about the horses the whole time, which, by the way, he fully
11:14understands the NFL policy on gaming.
11:18Oh, he went out of his way.
11:20I'm going to go out of my way.
11:22He fully understands.
11:23So, Florio, if you're out there, turn right on back around and go smoke a cigar in the barn.
11:29Okay, buddy?
11:31Now I got three things to get off my chest.
11:32Second of all, so many people have been sending horse memes now.
11:36It's like, you know, if they make the playoffs, what if I just say if they make the playoffs,
11:40I'll get one of those, like, Tony Soprano, him with the horse, but I'll have Todd Munkin
11:47with Pio Mai, like, on my shoulder, on my back, on my arm, something like that.
11:50Because if they make the playoffs, I mean, what the hell, right?
11:53Didn't I already say I was going to get some sort of other tattoo by accident once?
11:56I'm just getting tatted up all over the place.
11:58You said if they end up with Arch Manning next year, you would tattoo the scores of
12:04week 17 and week 18 on your body.
12:07On my body.
12:08I didn't say where, but I'd say somewhere on my person.
12:10Thank you for remembering that.
12:11So, boy, I already got that going on me.
12:14Well, either way, I might end up with a tattoo.
12:17All right, then I'm not going to make that.
12:18You're getting tattooed, brother.
12:19I'm not going to make that guarantee.
12:20I mean, I'm going to be 40 this summer.
12:22What the hell do I have to hide anymore?
12:23I mean, I got past the whole tattoo phase when you're a younger guy, and I'm like,
12:27ah, I'm not going to get a tattoo.
12:28I might as well get a tattoo.
12:29Who cares?
12:30Who cares?
12:312026.
12:32About to be 2027.
12:33Nobody cares about that stuff anymore.
12:35Second of all, don't take this the wrong way.
12:38Such an affable guy that it sucks that they got a kickoff this fall.
12:47I don't mean to just drop a great big turd in the middle of the room.
12:50You understand what I'm saying?
12:51Like, I don't want to have to sit there and judge them.
12:54Oh, yeah.
12:55Like, I don't want to, like, they're not going to win some games, and there's going
12:58to be some people very upset, and I'm going to have to go, yeah, you're right.
13:02That was totally mishandled.
13:03Yeah, you're right.
13:04That was totally bad.
13:05Yeah, you might be right.
13:06Maybe he made a terrible decision in picking Deshaun Watson over Shador Sanders.
13:10Like, that part sucks.
13:12That part sucks.
13:13Like, I'll be honest with you.
13:14I get so nervous.
13:15Like, when you know coaches, like, there's a couple of programs out there when it comes to
13:19college.
13:20Like, I will be open and honest.
13:21I don't like watching them live, because I get nervous.
13:24Like, there's two on the West Coast, one on the East Coast, obviously one in a mid-Atlantic
13:28state now that I don't watch them during the game, because I'll get nervous on a Saturday.
13:33And now I'm going to be even more nervous, because I want this guy to work out.
13:36Even if I didn't like him, I'd want him to work out.
13:37But now I like, I've liked him, and I like him now.
13:39I really like him now, and I really want him to work out.
13:41And I'm like, you know what?
13:42I want the honeymoon to last forever.
13:44I want the offseason to last forever, because eventually they're going to kick off, and
13:48this is going to get real, and nobody is going to give a damn about any horse stories, or
13:53any nice thing.
13:55He does not speak in cliches, so there is no cliches, but any niceties at all, any fun
14:00lines or anything.
14:01They are not going to give a damn.
14:02They are only going to care about what the scoreboard says.
14:05And then there's going to be some Sundays going into Mondays, where I'm going to be having
14:09some drinks, and I'm going to know that tomorrow is going to be a beating.
14:13It's not going to be fun.
14:14He said, that's what you get paid the big bucks for.
14:16That's why it's, you know, life-changing money when you get these jobs, one of 32.
14:22And I think he just thinks he is so damn blessed that this happened at all, right?
14:28That he could have gone his whole life without ever getting a crack to be a head coach in
14:31the NFL.
14:32And now he's got his chance.
14:33And so at his age, like, he's not worried about missteps.
14:37He's not worried.
14:38And I think this is one difference, and it's kind of logical between him and Kevin.
14:43You know, when you're Kevin Stefanski and you get that job, and you grew up in a high-level
14:48sports family like he did, you're making sure, and by the way, Pat Shermer was the same way,
14:53also similar, look up the lineage.
14:56I don't want to create the big missteps that could hurt me in the future.
15:00Todd Munkin does not care.
15:02Todd Munkin's like, yeah, this could be it.
15:04And you know what?
15:05I want this to be my last job ever, but either way, I'm going to go down.
15:08I'm going to go down my way.
15:10So I'm going to at least give it a chance.
15:11I'm going to learn from all the people that I have observed above me that have succeeded
15:14and maybe more importantly have failed.
15:16And I do not care.
15:18I got the job.
15:19You guys didn't get the job.
15:21That other guy didn't get the job.
15:22That guy in Jacksonville didn't get the job.
15:24I got the job.
15:24I'm not going to be worried and walking on eggshells every step of the way.
15:29And that is a freedom that comes along with that.
15:31In dead serious, I mean, he can't not be himself.
15:35He got the job for being himself.
15:36I mean, you guys know we had to dump him twice during the interview.
15:38So he's definitely himself, which is awesome.
15:41So he can't be anybody but himself because if he's anybody but himself, this thing's definitely
15:44going to fail because he is him no matter what.
