00:00Well, won't be doing that again
00:05You're not gonna pick them the rest of the year now?
00:07Hell no, I ain't picking them to win the rest of the year, you nuts!
00:10Is that the lesson learned?
00:11Are you nuts?
00:13Whoopsie daisy!
00:14I ain't picking them to win a damn thing!
00:16And that ain't just about football.
00:17If they were in a two-man potato sack race, I ain't picking them to win that either.
00:24I ain't picking them to win a shoots and ladders tournament.
00:27I ain't picking them to win that.
00:28I don't want you to overreact.
00:31No, because what bothered me is that...
00:34Nobody cares about the guarantees you get right.
00:36But what bothered me is on Friday, I'm shaking people's hands during Friday night...
00:41Kenny, you really guarantee?
00:42I go, I didn't guarantee a damn thing!
00:43I just picked them to win.
00:45That's all I did.
00:46That's all I did.
00:47I go, unless there's a bunch of kindergarten kids around here, I didn't guarantee a damn thing.
00:53No.
00:53And I picked them to win.
00:55And not only did they lose, they lost in embarrassing fashion as if they never played the game before.
01:00And so, no.
01:02Absolutely not!
01:03I'm not picking them to win a damn thing for the rest of the year.
01:07What happened to the easiest schedule of all time?
01:09No, no, no, no.
01:10What happened to that?
01:11I didn't say that.
01:12Did I say that?
01:13No, but everybody said it.
01:13I didn't say it.
01:14But on paper, they had the easiest schedule in the NFL.
01:17Yeah, everybody sees you as one of those easy wins on their schedule, certainly after yesterday.
01:21Oh my God in heaven.
01:23I don't know where to begin.
01:25I don't know where to finish.
01:26I don't know where to go in the middle, because it was all bad.
01:30Down 30 to nothing.
01:32Let's send Andre Schmidt out there and let's get that zero off the board.
01:35All right, I'm with you.
01:36All right!
01:37That was such a...
01:38I do a lot of FCS teams playing FBS teams.
01:42That's where I'm at over there.
01:44It's okay.
01:46You're one of the nation's leaders in doing FCS teams playing FBS.
01:49More games than me.
01:51More games than me.
01:51I do a lot of those games, and you will see a lot of coaches send the field goal unit
01:57out there for the scoreboard
02:01just so that when the score goes all over the nation, they're like, oh, okay, some points on the board.
02:08Because when it's a shutout, then it's like, oh, it stands out.
02:13Like, everybody kind of sees that.
02:14So you'll see them send the kicker out from time to time.
02:17So, you know, that was...
02:18That might have been what was happening.
02:20Hey, man.
02:21Only lost by 24.
02:23Could have been worse.
02:24Got that garbage time touchdown in there that sent the QB rating up to 97.
02:30So we don't got to blame him, right?
02:31Do you believe in momentum?
02:33Do you believe...
02:34Hey, he was getting stronger as the game was going on.
02:36Do you believe in that?
02:37He definitely got stronger.
02:39That's one thing you cannot debate.
02:41Yeah.
02:41He got stronger as the game went on.
02:43When Jacksonville sent the local boys and girls club out there to play in the fourth quarter.
02:47Yeah.
02:47He got stronger.
02:48All right.
02:49It was a play 60 game at the end of the game.
02:52Yes.
02:53Yes.
02:53Hey, you wonder why coaches keep their starters out there.
02:56Holy God.
02:56They got something to feel good about.
02:58All right.
02:592-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
03:01Kenny always says it's the golf gods that find a way to get you to lace a drive on 17
03:08or 18 and make a putt.
03:09Yep.
03:10That's what it was.
03:11This is what gets...
03:12That's what it was.
03:12And all Browns fans agree, right?
03:14Now we're back next week.
03:15We saw some good at the end of the game.
03:17That's what it was.
03:17Now we're going to be back.
03:19Hey, guys.
03:21Denzel Boston's on pace for 17 touchdowns this year.
03:24Yes.
03:24Yes.
03:25Got that.
03:26Hey, I'm not going to give a Bronx cheer for him.
03:28He and Austin Barber.
03:30Austin Barber played his ass off.
03:32Boy, that looks like a good one.
03:34That's a positive.
03:35I didn't...
03:36I'm sure...
03:37I don't know what PFF has.
03:39And frankly, I don't always care.
03:41But I didn't think Spencer Fauna was that bad.
03:44And I think he was tremendously great.
03:46And Mason Graham had a very nice game and showed up in the stat book.
03:49Not just showing up and helping others make tackles.
03:52So we got that.
03:54And then everything else was just horrific.
03:55Not just not great, but horrific.
03:58When the first in 10 turns into first in 30, that's a pretty damn bad day at the office, buddy.
04:04They were going backwards there, weren't they?
04:05Yeah, they were right there at the end.
04:07Had a chance.
04:07That was a promising drive.
04:11If...
04:12Okay, so if he's the one who knows how to get the plays out...
04:17Either A...
04:18I'm serious about this.
04:19Either A...
04:21Todd Munkin is doing everything right by Shador Sanders.
04:26Or he doesn't know what the hell he's looking at.
04:28Because, I mean, you can...
04:30Just because you can regurgitate what's said in your ears doesn't mean you know what's supposed to go on.
04:37Like, I could sit there...
04:38Like, Chase Daniel's broken down play calls before.
04:42Like, what it means.
04:43I could sit there and memorize what he says.
04:47It doesn't mean I know what they're all really supposed to do.
04:50Like, that is key, right?
04:53Okay.
04:54So I'm glad.
04:55And I don't know who to blame more.
04:57But I know I want to blame just about all of them for something.
05:01Because you and I almost got into a cat fight yesterday on the phone.
05:05Because you were upset with the defense.
05:08And I went, don't you dare absolve him of his responsibility.
05:11And I was talking about Deshaun.
05:13I had to mention Munkin in there.
05:14There's something that Todd Munkin keeps saying that's already bothering me.
05:17And I'm going to get to that coming up here in a bit.
05:19He had some Kevin Stefanski-isms after the game, too.
05:21Well, it wasn't just that.
05:23It was all in there.
05:24We got to get to the tape.
05:25That sounded like you know who.
05:28Which, you better watch that tape.
05:29You better not throw that away.
05:30I know that Tom Munkin's famous for not watching tapes of bad quarterback play for whatever reason.
05:34But if we got to go in there like Red Dragon to make sure that he watches this tape, so
05:38be it.
05:39Because you better watch this.
05:40Because there ain't nowhere to hide on this.
05:41This is bad all the way through.
05:43This was as unprepared, bad, everything as you could possibly be.
05:47And Deshaun said he wasn't rattled by that first pick.
05:51Ain't no way.
05:52Does anybody believe that?
05:54Nobody believes that, right?
05:55We all are together that we don't believe him on that.
05:58Alright, here's Deshaun.
05:59I want to see if you believe him or not.
06:00Go ahead.
06:01No, I mean, bad plays are going to happen all the time.
06:03You look all around the league.
06:04Everyone throws interceptions.
06:06Everyone makes bad plays.
06:07And, you know, you got to give defense credit.
06:09He made a good play on that.
06:11You know, even though I got knocked off my platform a little bit, I thought I got it over him.
06:14And he reached up and grabbed it.
06:15So, you got to move on to the next play and try to move forward and try to put something
06:19positive on the next drive.
06:20And, you know, we weren't able to do that.
06:22So, I didn't really bond with my confidence.
06:24It's just we didn't get back on track like we wanted to.
06:27Oh, I don't believe that whatsoever.
06:28You don't believe that he saw him?
06:30He saw a football player there when he tried to throw that ball?
06:32No.
06:33You think he was tricked a little bit?
06:34I don't believe that at all.
06:36Not in the least, but do I believe any of the statement that he said?
06:41Because, I mean, yeah, you look across the league.
06:43There's plenty of interceptions that happen, but not everybody's you.
06:45Yeah, Joe Burrow threw a pick six yesterday.
06:47He didn't see a guy.
06:48Oh, hell.
06:49Okay.
06:50Does happen.
06:51Well, let's ask Deshaun.
06:52How do you plan to move on to week two there, friend?
06:55Just keep moving forward.
06:56Keep stepping forward.
06:57You know, keep smiling.
06:58Regardless of who's against me or who's with me.
07:01You know, and I think that's more beneficial for the team in that locker room.
07:04So, you know, I've had a lot of support in that locker room after the game.
07:07You know, telling me to keep my head up.
07:09Keep pushing forward.
07:10Keep working.
07:10They're behind me.
07:11So, that's always positive to see and hear.
07:13And, yeah, we just got to keep going.
07:15So, you know, the adversity is going to be there.
07:18Yeah, you got to embrace it.
07:19That's the only way I thought it was going to be going two years ago, but I guess not.
07:24So, you know, just embrace it and keep pushing through until, you know, you break that wall through.
07:29I don't know if you're going to be able to break that wall, but.
07:31He thought it was going to be gone.
07:33Hey, man.
07:34I can't.
07:34He thought the disappearing act last year made these fans who that's all they thought is about how much they
07:42don't like that dude.
07:43He thought that would just disappear.
07:46It does lend credence to my thought about the bubble that guys like him put themselves in.
07:52That he, he's that stunned that people hate his guts.
07:55Well, unless we got another pandemic between now and Sunday, like there's going to be people in them stands too.
07:59So, hate to tell you, which I did see, I wrote this down as they came out on the field.
08:07See, this is the issue that, that, that, that also happened.
08:11Andrew said that there's booze.
08:12There were booze that the booze that happened.
08:15And he had said, it said Jacksonville fans were booing.
08:19And I went, okay, but I am seeing a lot of brown and orange in the stands here.
08:23And then notice, I do think there were a lot of Browns fans in them stands yesterday.
08:28And it wasn't as vociferously loud after Jacksonville touchdowns as what you would think.
08:34Let me tell you something.
08:35Every Browns fan that they showed and CBS was determined to show as many Browns fans as humanly possible after
08:43bad plays.
08:44And it wasn't hard to catch them.
08:46There's so many empty seats.
08:48I didn't, the stadium's under renovation.
08:49Anyway, I think, what were their 20?
08:51It's an open construction site.
08:5342,000 now capacity.
08:54What was it?
08:5542,000 is the capacity.
08:57Whole, I've been to college basketball games that have more fans than that.
09:00That is absolutely crazy.
09:02You're right.
09:02They should, all the fans should have been wearing hard hats.
09:04It was probably putting themselves in harm's way, walking to that, walking to that game yesterday.
09:11And every time they showed a Browns fan, I'm like, did they find the collection of the most sarcastic Browns
09:16fans in human history?
09:17Because every Browns fan was there on the same page.
09:20They were all, like, laughing at how bad the team was.
09:24They couldn't even go through the motions of being mad.
09:28They were all, like, well, I'm here.
09:29I have a ticket.
09:30I'm getting razzed by these Jacksonville fans.
09:33We might as well have a good time.
09:35We're in an NFL game.
09:36We might as well have a good time.
09:38Weather's hot out.
09:39Yeah.
09:39I'm in paradise, apparently.
09:42One called Jacksonville paradise compared to other places in Florida.
09:44But, you know, it's not so bad, right?
09:46What the hell, right?
09:47It's in the top 50 places to go in Florida.
09:49Whatever.
09:49216-474-0092.
09:51So, is he the biggest problem yesterday?
09:54Is Deshaun the biggest problem?
09:56Because I think you could, I think you can go around everywhere.
09:59Because, you know, again, I don't want to sit there and have some race to the bottom and some gutter
10:03fight with you.
10:04Like, I stopped myself on the phone with you yesterday when you were bringing up the defense.
10:08Because I'm going, defense is a problem, too.
10:10Defense was a problem, too.
10:11Well, my point.
10:11I'm not going to run away from that.
10:13Yeah.
10:13Just because I might be upset with this whole Watson rigmarole doesn't mean that I'm going to absolve the defense.
10:18I think that you definitely have a point there.
10:20So, I got that.
10:21I got the quarterback.
10:22I got Todd Munkin, who he just, there's one thing.
10:26And I'm going to tell you guys about that coming up later on.
10:28There's just one thing he keeps saying that just keeps bothering me here.
10:31And I wish he'd stop of all the things he keeps saying.
10:34But you got the coaching.
10:35You got the defense.
10:36You got the quarterback.
10:37I mean, you take your pick.
10:39Which do you think was the worst?
10:40Because it's all there.
10:41Yeah.
10:41It's all there and it's all bad.
10:43The only thing.
10:43There was a bunch of other stuff that happened in the NFL that might have.
10:47I saw some trends that might have dampened a little bit about how tough talking I was on the phone
10:52yesterday.
10:53Which was my point was, Kenny, everyone's going to mention Deshaun Watson.
10:56We're going to do four hours of Deshaun Watson sucks radio.
10:59It's because everybody thought he sucked going into the game.
11:01But I think there's plenty of sucks to share.
11:03I think there's plenty of sucks to go around.
11:05Yeah.
11:05My larger point was I thought the defense was actually worse than Watson.
11:08The only thing that tempered that is the defenses were bad around the league.
11:14So the only I'm trying to leave the door open a little bit that the way that these teams are
11:20doing training camp.
11:21Now the tackling was bad everywhere in the league.
11:24Guys, the blown assignments were everywhere in the league yesterday.
11:27Even some teams are supposed to be good defensively, like Houston.
11:29They were bad on defense, too.
11:31They were going up against Josh Allen.
11:33We made Trevor Lawrence look like an MVP.
11:35I mean, quite literally.
11:37The Trevor Lawrence we saw yesterday was the mythical Trevor Lawrence that we talked about coming into the league as
11:44a number one overall pick.
11:45So that's the only thing.
11:47But I did think the defense was worse than the offense yesterday.
11:51And as bad as Watson was, it's hard to pull off.
11:54Is it because of your expectations for the defense?
11:55Probably.
11:55Because, listen, I don't want this to be, this isn't the end-all be-all take.
12:01It's only week one of the season, right?
12:04And it's not a reason to not do the deal.
12:06But I wrote down yesterday in the notes, is this the Miles Garrett difference right here?
12:12Like, because when he's not out there, everybody's job is that much harder, including Mike Rutenberg's.
12:20So when he's not out there, again, you made the decision.
12:25You didn't trade Miles Garrett to win week one.
12:27That, no.
12:28That's not how that goes.
12:30So I'm not ripping them for making the decision.
12:32We know what this is about.
12:33And we got a taste of that Saturday night.
12:35And we will talk about that later in this show.
12:37I guarantee you around 720.
12:39But I'm already starting to draw in gray before I put it in black exactly what it is.
12:48And, again, you don't got that guy out there that you have to start with to neutralize him.
12:55And because we spend so much time on that guy, other guys are able to step up.
13:00That makes things a lot more difficult for you.
13:02But I don't want to get into some great big rigmarole.
13:04It's just one little thing I observed.
13:05And I'll throw Jim Schwartz in there, too.
13:07You know, I came into this week saying I think people are forgetting that they don't have Jim Schwartz and
13:12Miles Garrett.
13:13It's not just that they don't have Miles Garrett.
13:15And we all agreed that Jim Schwartz did such a terrific job with the defense.
13:20And, guys, we've had bad quarterback play before.
13:24Everybody's going to be up in arms today about the start of that game with Deshaun Watson
13:27and really how bad he was the entire first half.
13:31Maybe the second half doesn't matter.
13:32So we'll just talk about the first half.
13:35Everyone's going to bring up Deshaun Watson because it feels like so hopeless when he's out there.
13:40And rightfully so, 100%.
13:42It basically, everything that everybody had said about Watson, it came to fruition.
13:48And he looked like he couldn't play the position there in the first half.
13:52But they had bad quarterback play all of last year.
13:55Like from the start of the season with Joe Flacco to Dylan Gabriel to Shador.
14:00Statistically, they had the worst quarterback play you could imagine.
14:05Kind of on par with what we saw yesterday.
14:06It was pretty damn bad.
14:08And yet, the defense and Miles Garrett bailed them out time and time again until they just couldn't anymore.
14:16Well, yesterday, that clearly did not happen.
14:20They didn't have that ability.
14:24They didn't have that other facet of the team that could at least make up for some of that.
14:30Eventually, the quarterback play is going to make it so you can't win a football game.
14:34But the defense kept him in so many games last year.
14:37Well, the bad quarterback play, along with awful defense, meant that game was over in the second quarter.
14:42It was like a college football game that was over in the second quarter.
14:45I mean, guys, I would love to sit here and take the lazy route.
14:49Or take the easy route.
14:49I don't even know if it's lazy.
14:50Maybe it ends up being the truth.
14:52And just say, hey, how much can't you stand Deshaun Watson, 2-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92?
14:57But that would be a disservice to the entire game of what happened.
15:01And I think it would be a disservice to your intelligence.
15:04And if this is any microcosm, I think you were the lowest on the station.
15:09You might have picked four.
15:10You ain't even going to the showcase showdown.
15:12I mean, this is so bad in every step of the way.
15:17I talked about eliminating pre-snap penalties.
15:20They had those.
15:20Penalties in general, they had those.
15:22Turnovers, they had those.
15:23I mean, they had it all for a team that is going to flirt with one or two wins this
15:28year.
15:28That's what they had.
15:30So to sit there and just blame it all on number four, there's certainly a lot on him.
15:34But it would be disingenuous.
