Bareilly: Hasan Khan, who allegedly made objectionable and abusive remarks against women in a viral social media video, was arrested by police on Tuesday, within 12 hours of the clip surfacing online.

According to police, the accused was seen leaving the police station limping after his arrest. In a video that has since emerged, he is seen crying, folding his hands, and apologising, saying, “Forgive me, a big mistake has been made. I will never do such work again.”

The controversy began on April 20 when Hasan Khan uploaded a video on Instagram. In the clip, he is seen sitting inside a car while a procession passes by, with women dancing on the road to DJ music and band-baja. During the video, he made derogatory and abusive comments about the women, which drew sharp criticism from social media users.

Police said that following the outrage, an FIR was registered and the accused was arrested within hours. During the investigation, it was revealed that Hasan Khan allegedly posed as a policeman to create a false image. He had posted multiple videos on social media wearing what appeared to be a police uniform and was also seen following a police jeep in some clips.

The accused admitted during questioning that he had purchased a police-style jacket from a shop near Chaupla and wore it to project himself as a police official. Police further stated that he used to threaten people in his locality while dressed in the uniform and was active on social media, regularly posting reels.

Officials also revealed that Hasan Khan had attended Peace Committee meetings, raising concerns over how he managed to present himself as a police-affiliated individual.

Following protests by members of Hindu organisations after the video surfaced, police took swift action. A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 79 and 205 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has been sent to jail, and efforts are underway to recover the fake police jacket used by him.

Izzatnagar police station in-charge Pankaj Srivastava confirmed the arrest and said further legal action is in progress.
