03:01about my wife who is a native australian she does not understand the game of hockey i went to bed
03:07early because i was getting frustrated and i feel that the sabers do better when i don't watch the
03:12game and she got so excited she started using australian terms for people i've never heard of
03:19before including the word bogan in reference to the referees and linesmen and bogan it means
03:27unsophisticated she was so she was so excited and she started chanting when the fans started saying
03:33and i'll paraphrase you stink she was yelling bogan and it woke me up from a deep sleep and i
03:39had to
03:39watch the game and she goes honey i am so disappointed in you you have to watch this game they're
03:45going to
03:45win the game and i and then boston went up to nothing and i said honey i'm going to go
03:49back to
03:50bed and then i missed the rest of the game because i overslept my wife said who only thinks that
03:55australian rugby is only true sport in all of the world for any proper men according to her
04:02uh she said that was the most exciting game and she was so proud of how physical the sabers were
04:08and my wife is now a diehard sabers fan and and i also have to agree with you that i
04:15still do not
04:16i cannot comprehend how tomson scored that goal but i do think that it might put a little uh
04:23apprehension in swayman's mind moving forward because he might go top shelf next time versus

05:46whatever last night i took my family down sick and outside and my 12 year old son who plays hockey
05:53and and he's never really had anything to watch a 14 year drought he's only 12 we we built the

06:01we went like you know one of those little fake stanley cups we built one he caught a t-shirt

06:05from daryl shannon in the crowd he's pumped up we left to go watch the game at home when thompson
06:12scored the second goal like he freaked out right you know it was great to see when danny scored goal
06:18number three i i got to watch the transformation that happened to me when i was a kid i got
06:24to watch
06:25the next generation and i'm sure it happened throughout the entire city not just at my house
06:29but these kids that have had nothing really just lock it and embrace it and become this you know
06:34this neighborhood family that we are i was crying when i saw them do it like it wasn't just like

06:39know i'm happy for the savers i got to watch my son transform so the whole pump the brakes thing

06:44absolutely ridiculous to me we are it's it's generational and we're passing it on now and

07:31enthusiastic and excited as you want i don't think there's any downside in that uh my son was out in
07:37the crowd at the arena so he was not with me but my daughter was watching the game with my

07:44last night and i guess different from connor's experience it was she did not lose her mind i did
07:53so i i don't have the story about how my kids for the first time in their lives watching the
07:59sabers in
08:00the playoffs got completely crazy about it but she has a story that i mom and dad went nuts
08:08that's that's what my house was uh i mean i i swore which i don't try to do very often
08:15at home
08:15with the kids around and i just could not sit down after the third goal i had said i mean
08:22i'd love to
08:23play would you take hypotheticals in here all the time at two to nothing i mean this was easy
08:30to say at two to nothing but even at two to one can i just get this game to midnight
08:34i'll stay up
08:36until midnight and you tell me the winning goal of this game is going to be scored at midnight i'm

08:40for it i'll take it win or lose get me to whatever that would be a second overtime just get

08:45midnight and instead you know the game completely turned in what felt like no time at all so i don't
08:52have my daughter losing her mind but she has my and mom's losing our respective minds uh that's
08:59her story here's joe next hi joe hi how you guys doing i'm good so last night so i got
09:06a 16 and a
09:06six year old the last time we were in the playoff my baby was one and so i waited all
09:13this time and
09:14now i got a six year old and i put her to bed when we went down oh to two
09:17and then we we tied it up
09:20and i started screaming that's what momentum looks like baby she woke up and so i told her
09:26i said come here baby girl come sit on my lap i want you to capture the first playoff win
09:33of your
09:33young life and enjoy it with me and that was just an awesome moment for me as a dad and
09:38a fan and i
09:39just wanted to share it with joe yeah that's thanks joe that's what i think has been a recurring
09:45theme this year uh as it's gotten better and better and later and later is people with young
09:52kids you know like yourself and my kids don't feel young anymore but still my daughter is 14 and she
09:58has never been alive for a playoff game here until last night so young enough and that um really has
10:08resonated that's what the whole uh video that the sabers made is about starting with bulldog and the
10:16picture of me and our kids just like how long it's uh it's been so really awesome just to have
10:24it be
10:24not only back but what last night was i mean you have to win now for this to be true
10:31because if they
10:32don't it'll just be like we don't want to think about it but to be a game that a game
10:37for the ages if you
10:38will if they can keep going last night i mean last night could end up being the best game of
10:45the
10:45playoffs given the comeback and thompson's goals i i wanted to mention too about him 8030550 is the
10:55number i said earlier when talking to adam krautwurst who was at the game i i bothered adam to come
11:00on
11:00because he was there and wanted to rank it like way up with anything he's ever been to even though
11:05he's not really a hockey fan you know that's that's out there right now um i mentioned to him
11:12he asked me a question i guess maybe it was about thompson and i said like i have a tough
11:18time with him
11:18sometimes well with adam too but with thompson because like he he is a goal scorer and like doesn't
11:27drive play as an elite player i don't want to list off things he's not good or great at but
11:33he's
11:35great like elite at one thing and that has its place and i mentioned to adam how as a father
11:45of
11:45a hockey player you know you're around coaches and parents and rightly what what is stressed if you
11:53have a son or daughter who plays hockey what is usually stressed and this is not to say like thompson
12:00doesn't do these things per se but it's teamwork it's passing it's getting back on defense it's
12:07sort of playing the team game that's what coaches and i think most parents want to see from the kids
12:16you know again with good reason then sometimes there's a kid who can just all right and he he
12:24goes and scores like he's just that good and he can be annoying to even on your own team he
12:30can he or
12:31she can be annoying because you know they're not doing the other stuff that we want to see from
12:37our kids we want to see passes we want to see working together we want to see effort oh well
12:41we
12:41got a guy who can just go in and score okay that that's good and i get at the same
12:48time i get annoyed
12:50with thompson as a fan sometimes because i'm like oh you know give me something else defensive effort
12:57whatever just come on um i don't want to make it about effort per se but just you know more

13:04player but i'll also say that what wins these games i mean my daughter's games were almost all two
13:10to one or one to nothing because everybody's in structure this is i mean as a good thing everybody's
13:17in structure the the game is based on keeping the puck out of your own net even nhl coaches will
13:23talk about goals like there had to be a mistake made for it to be possible to score a goal
13:28and yet
13:33you need often the one player who can just do it and score and this game last night i mean
13:42is a lot
13:42that the sabers were good if not great for most of this game and they're down one nothing and it's
13:49almost two nothing on that wacky play before the end of the first period and then it is two nothing
13:53well into the third and it's like all right well this all looks pretty good i see the shot totals
14:01i think we know what we're doing out here they don't seem scared they're physical enough we're hitting
14:06we're skating we're losing until that guy scores from behind the net then finishes the second one
14:15and then you're there like then samuelson happens bruin player breaks a stick they're confused mcleod
14:22quinn samuelson and like that's legendary stuff so anyway you you want as as as many times as there
14:31are when like sort of within the the sensibilities of hockey like you want you sort of go against
14:39maybe the the thought of one player who can just like all right give me the puck i'll let me
14:44do this
14:47but then you kind of really like having that guy on your team in the end i mean what a
14:52night i'm sorry
14:53to go on and on although that's kind of what i'm paid to do joe is next hi joe hey

14:59i'm fine yeah so am i good to share my experience um from last night i was at the game
15:07i'm a
15:07half season ticket holder and uh i'm 46 years old i was with my brother my younger brother and i
15:16had
15:16season tickets in 05 06 and the last playoff memory we have together was the umberger hit
15:22oh and man what a moment that was you could feel the whole place just uh build and explode
15:29yep and then the eight to two game against the flyers and the danny berriere overtime game and
15:34i left the city for over a decade have season tickets for the past three years and i was with
15:43my brother again last night and before the game i said to him you know hopefully we get a memory
15:48you know not a game but a memory one of those memories and man seven minutes to go on the
15:56third
15:57there was the tension was palpable and it was amazing and now i'm 46 like i said and
16:06man what a moment to be with my brother and just experience it with everyone hugging strangers
16:11wow it was awesome you know that you know joe that umberger hit i hadn't thought about that today
16:17but watching the crowd lose its mind after the samuelson goal like that that's kind of a moment
16:24like that it was a different exactly right you know it was different of course but just like
16:29where everybody you do have a player down on the ice maybe like almost out of it uh in that
16:36case but
16:36still like the that i was in there that night and um i thought about that game plenty with you
16:43know
16:44it's overtime it's close and then like you said the next game the sabers blew them out and we win
16:48that series but that that that campbell hit i mean it's again legendary stuff and that was one where
16:55the crowd just completely could have broken the place and that's what it sounded like last night
17:00from you know that wasn't in there but what it looked and sounded like to me yeah maybe it was

17:07build-up you could see it coming from a mile away that hit and i remember grabbing my brother's
17:12knee and the whole place rose at once and last night was the same pop right the building popped
17:17and yes um i'm thankful for it i heard the caller earlier called in from southern ontario and yeah
17:23get out of here i don't want to hear it right now i'm trying to enjoy this so i appreciate

18:19i um i could get it last night on espn so i'm watching the game the first two periods and

18:25doing well i thought we were doing really good you just couldn't get it past the you know swayman
18:29and uh so for the third period i decided i'm going to put the radio on turn the tv down

18:35even though there's like a seven second delay the radio was ahead i did it anyways which is a little
18:40weird but um we uh but then you know we scored and then we scored again we came back and
18:46we win
18:47the game so i don't know if that's exactly sustainable you know but uh i kind of feel like
18:52in a superstitious kind of way it that's how i watch the games or i listen to the games on
18:57the radio
18:57so it kind of worked that's my superstition story so you're not going to watch the playoffs
19:03no no no i'm going to watch them but if i'm going to have to watch them i might have
19:06the radio on
19:07as well okay okay good good well thank you for that as a you know an employee um you know

19:16what i would do thanks brian is if i were going to sort of put myself into a boycott or
19:21something
19:22because of superstition i would take the first opportunity to break it like

19:31i'm done with the boycott that obviously it wasn't my fault this time so i'm back let's go to
19:38matt next hi matt hey how you doing mike good thank you excellent so uh just a quick family story
19:47we got
19:47a lot of these today yeah so i'm 41 and i i grew up we grew up playing hockey and
19:54i can't tell you the
19:55amount of times i acted out the afet again off celebration when he scored an overtime against
20:00the rangers i mean like we we did that we play we knew all these players we grew up with
20:05hockey
20:05and since moving out of the area my my kids love the bills but have never had a chance to
20:12experience
20:13the sabers and i said guys sabers hockey you won't believe it like the bills we love the bills
20:21playoff time is sometimes awful it's like so stressful one game everything matters i said
20:27wait till you experience playoff hockey one time in your life and i'm telling you my kids
20:32have never seen a hockey game until like four months ago where i'm like oh they're getting hot and now
20:38here we are uh watching them in the playoffs um explaining the game to them they love tage thompson
20:46they love um they love all the guys and it's just really fun to bring them into something that i
20:53grew
20:53up doing as a kid and loving as a kid um and so i i'm confident but man the the
21:01amount of uh energy
21:02last night i just we needed that first goal and i think i i breathed a sigh of relief i
21:08said to my boys
21:09i'm like all right at least we scored like that's all we needed to do today we just needed to
21:14score
21:14and then when thompson hit the second goal i was like we're going to win this game and when the
21:19puck hit samuelson's stick i knew it was going in i even put my arms up and shouted when when
21:24quinn
21:25and that was a heck of it was quinn right on the assist i think what a heck of a
21:30play i mean samuelson
21:31was there at the right place at the right time but i people have got to be given cred to
21:36quinn what a
21:37what an incredible play incredible pass just great game and what's funny is my middle kid was asleep on
21:45the couch he even he slept through the 101 uh interception return by johnson in the in the playoff
21:52game against the raven so he's consistent with exciting buffalo moments but my five-year-old was
21:58still awake we're jumping around watching the sabers win this game it was incredible um i really think
22:05they're going to do well um i'm glad that page thompson i'd like your opinion on this real quick
22:10i like the fact that thompson scored the first two goals i don't think that he's a josh allen figure
22:16necessarily for the sabers but i think they needed him to score those goals to kind of say all right
22:23guys let's go and then the rest of the guys picked it up so i think he'll have a good

22:29he needed to say let's go and be the leader in that moment and i think he did so yep

23:25zaka gives him his stick because zaka 18 zaka is the player when the goal goes in who is without
