00:06there are not many games that i've been to or can remember quite like tonight's

00:35it i mentioned earlier like they really needed that win so it wasn't like just about maybe you'll
00:41get your ticket drawn and win a jersey or something like this right uh it was tense and tonight is

00:47going to be tense yeah i was at a game in in one of the years 98 99 when they

00:55locked in and i remember a season finale against ottawa one of those years i i i think i hope

01:02not messing up years here but i i know they had clinched and i went to the arena and had

01:07seats and it was just like like just to get just get the game over with kind of right it

01:13division winning year and it wasn't a drought ending year or anything like that like tonight
01:17there is reason to have emotion going into the building again like it's all still back and it's
01:23so new that i don't think this will feel like that felt but i just remember sitting there going like
01:29why did i get tickets for this game do you remember this one there's nothing happening here in 2001
01:36they played philadelphia the last game of the year in the afternoon at home and they lost and then
01:43because they lost they had to go to philadelphia to start the series like home ice was on the line

01:48remember it no wow i believe you but i don't remember i remember standing in like the zamboni
01:53entrance with maybe mike robitaille watching that game and i think they any opportunity to do that was
02:00time well spent yeah yeah but you know 2010 i looked this up earlier i do not remember how that
02:08regular season ended because they had that division clinched for a while like maybe a couple weeks
02:12even or a week there was a friday night game maybe at home where they clinched that division that year
02:182010 and so the last game of that regular season they lose to the devils and i think that that

02:28so the sabers go in as the three and new jersey the two and washington that year 2010 was the

06:31goalie who you know had to take time away from the team and there was all kinds of rumors about

06:37that just it's been a crazy year that if he has a couple of good games to start the playoffs

06:42going to be a very heartwarming story and you know and i you know i don't want ottawa to do

06:48you know i wouldn't mind if they want to i'm rooting for the guy yeah take carolina out yeah go

06:55i think the best and how implausible even is this uh anybody welcome to want to play this out with

07:36no some years that's not a thing first round and then you get to kind of cruise that's right that

07:41was like one of those years with new jersey right is who i'm thinking of where they were like well
07:46you're gonna have to beat new jersey you didn't somebody else did right and it just sort of it can

08:11i didn't know who i was going to root for in 99 i was more emotionally attached to the leafs

08:24that's who i remember driving home in those playoff years with gilmore and clark and those and pot
08:30fan and that team just desperately trying to keep the signal alive in my car i lived kind of south

08:36rochester in a kind of a wooded area and would try to plan my route so that i could i

08:43my maybe it was just faulty but in my mind clear signal myself the best chance of keeping joe bowen
08:49in the in the car bouncing across lake ontario to me over here in rochester even in my apartment
08:54right i just tried couldn't get all the games on tv so desperately just i think they scored i don't

10:24um this playoff round against boston um i'm not expecting it to be easy just because i thought
10:30it was the most advantageous matchup um i think any playoff series is going to be hard the goalie
10:36is excellent they have a couple of very high-end super pastor knock is great mcavoy is great like
10:44these are elite olympic level players pastor knock if not dalene is the best player in the series

11:02ah with the sabers i mean i don't have a forward you know thompson is maybe close he's an olympian
11:09and he's a big point producer but he just hasn't been he's not had the career yet that pastor knock
11:14has had um so you've got the best player in the series i think over there but
11:20i've got maybe i don't know six or seven guys that are at worst a push with the rest of

11:28you get to casey middle stat as a second line forward and we know what that life was like i
11:35mean nothing against the guy but like that's just how good is your team if that's where you are
11:39and that's where they are now maybe this hagan's impacts that in some way middle stat was a scratch
11:47last night healthy i don't know if that was for rest or what but he wasn't in the lineup um
11:53so i
11:54don't know maybe they're addressing that um maybe hagan's just flat out takes that spot from him and
12:00maybe they hope for the best there but top to bottom it's just not as deep a team the goalie

12:05excellent um but i i like the matchup all along i just thought ottawa would be way more problematic
12:13at diffusing what buffalo does best which is get out of their own zone with speed and attack
12:19um ottawa's just very good at they have a lot of team speed and they're committed defensively
12:25i just think there's going to be holes in boston that i will be able to do what i need
12:29to do
12:30often enough that i think you know my depth should mean something in this series against them
12:36my overall team speed should mean something overall it is you know a team that will try to get you
12:42on the
12:42walls and play hard make you play hard and at the battle and we'll see what that what that comes

12:49mean um officiating wise you know like are they going to call interference are they going to let
12:55stuff go because it's the playoffs right um so the sabers may need to adjust um in that way i

13:02know that it's an ideal opponent because boston again will try to i think try to physical you and
13:08you know you can expect as soon as the sabers lose a game in this series or especially if they
13:13lose game
13:13one it's going to be like a lot of you know they're not built for the playoffs kind of thing
13:18river hockey or whatever and we'll see i think there's ample evidence that that is not really
13:24an accurate depiction of who they've been on balance this season but we haven't seen playoff hockey in a
13:31while so i you know if if boston wants to smash and bang and the officials want to let some
13:37stuff go
13:39you know that could level it off i think it's going to be a really tough series despite wanting this
13:43matchup out of any possibility i think it's gonna be tough sure and we all you know it's just been
13:51it's been a long time there's a lot of randomness in the hockey playoffs and i was liking that until

13:57got back i know right we've got 15 years away from it and so you haven't really you know had
14:02to sit
14:03with it and live with you know what whatever it is um you know a post that gets hit that

19:58think the one so when it comes to the sabers on paper they are the better team but it's the

20:03thing we've all learned and full disclosure i'm a half span but i love the sabers um the boston bruins
20:10can never be a team you overlook and i can easily see this being a five game series for buffalo
20:16but
20:16every game coming down to the wire and i think the talent that buffalo has certainly surpasses um the
20:24bruins and what's going to happen and you touched on this bulldog i think it was you
20:28is refereeing in the playoffs is never a consistent thing and that is going to be the ultimate equalizer
20:35not just for the sabers but even for my habs who are a high-flying team so i think an
20:41important part
20:42of this is going to come down to lindy and i'm really curious to see what kind of real playoff
20:47coaching
20:48he can give this team to get through that much right all that stuff that's going to hold the players
20:53back and cross-checking would do all those things to stay in themselves and still play their game so
20:58that's i think that's the biggest fight the sabers might find but my goodness what an amazing time to

21:32playoffs i think it was a on the heels of the chicago game the nice plays they made for the
21:37last couple of goals like those are great plays it's really fun to watch but you know we know where
21:43we're going and it's the playoffs and oftentimes it's just getting behind the d get out you know pucks to
21:50the net kind of stuff like there's a lot of that um so the sabers desire their propensity to like
21:59highlight reel you you might i'll bet we hear rough talk a lot about reining that in to an extent
22:05because you just don't have as many opportunities to do that direct is more often needed it's i know
22:13i sound like ed old chuck here during a game where it's always anytime you make a pass instead of
22:18shooting it at the net it's like oh i should have should have shot it unless it goes in unless

22:54stands to reason there's going to be fewer plays to make because you back checkers are on you like
22:59you pull up to try to find the trailer and the trailer is covered and now you're covered because
23:05everyone is dug in and they're coming 100 miles an hour the whole time because no one wants to quit
23:10on a play which you know is often how opportunities to make really good plays in the nhl happen in
23:16regular season games because guys don't give every ounce all the time so right because they have
23:22to play nashville tomorrow right and they're tired and that's already that's not in the way here right
