05 April - National Afternoon Forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there and happy Easter. After some stormy weather last night there will be some sunshine this afternoon but you
00:07might just need to hop around any showers if you're heading out for an Easter egg hunt.
00:11Here we can see from the bigger picture Storm Dave which sat with us to the northeast of the country.
00:16It still brought some blustery winds for a time but eventually easing as Storm Dave moves towards Scandinavia and a
00:22lovely ridge of high pressure building on behind.
00:23So that does mean any showers largely fizzling away this afternoon. So across much of England and Wales dry, settled,
00:31some sunny spells at times. Still a fair few showers skirting across the north. These could be blustery at times.
00:37Still a little bit wintry across high ground in Scotland but many areas by this afternoon will be dry with
00:43some sunshine.
00:44But quite a keen westerly wind out there. So it is going to be rather blustery at times, particularly in
00:48any heavy showers and across high ground.
00:51And temperatures overall are a little bit lower than recent days. Highs only reaching around 12 to 13 degrees Celsius
00:57in the south. Highs single figures across the north.
01:00But that westerly wind really taking the edge off the temperatures at times. So feeling a bit chillier but overall
01:06plenty of dry weather for the bank holiday.
01:07Now in through this evening, any remaining showers once again largely easing away. Winds should lighten off as well. With
01:14lighter winds, clear skies, that does mean things are going to be feeling a lot chillier.
01:19So a patchy frost in places, particularly across Scotland, northern parts of England. Temperatures in rural areas of Scotland could
01:25get down to minus 2 to minus 4 degrees Celsius.
01:29So a chilly start as we head into Easter Monday. But actually lots of dry weather and some bright sunshine
01:35at times. A little bit cloudier across northern Ireland, northern parts of England, southern Scotland.
01:40But any cloud once again easing away. So lots of blue skies to go around by the afternoon. And remaining
01:46dry, lighter winds and feeling slightly warmer across the far south and southeast. Temperatures up by a degree or two.
01:52But for many areas, similar temperatures, they're feeling more pleasant in the lighter winds. Perhaps a bit more cloud across
01:58the west to end the day. Some light outbreaks of rain across the far northwest of Scotland, but otherwise mostly
02:04dry.
02:04And as we head into next week, as high pressure sits to the east, this gives us more southerly wind
02:10direction. We actually drag up a fairly warm plume of air as well.
02:14So not only is it going to remain dry and settled for the first part of the week, but it's
02:18also going to be feeling warm with temperatures pushing into the low 20s in some areas.
02:22But of course, if you want more information on that, don't forget you can always subscribe.
