28 February - National evening forecast presented by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there, welcome to your latest forecast from the Met Office.
00:04We had a brief ridge of high pressure across the UK today, gave a mixture of sunny spells
00:08and showery outbreaks of rain, but also fresher conditions indicated by the blues on the map.
00:13But it's all changed over the next 24 hours.
00:15The Atlantic weather systems roll back in, bringing some stronger winds, but also some
00:21mild air as well.
00:22Notice the yellows back on the map across through tomorrow.
00:25So looking at the details for this evening, a band of showery rain pushing its way eastwards
00:29across the country.
00:30Some heavy bursts possible at times, the risk of some hill snow across Scotland, and then
00:35overnight it's generally cloudy for much of the UK.
00:38The next weather system bringing a more substantial area of rain into parts of Northern Ireland,
00:43Western Wales and the West Country towards the end of the night.
00:46And for most, with cloudy skies, temperatures should hold up between 3 and 5 Celsius, just
00:537 or 8 across the far west as the mild air starts to come in.
00:57The risk of a patchy frost across north-east Scotland with the clearest skies here.
01:02So some sunny spells possible for a short time here before the cloud moves in through
01:07Sunday morning and then rain pushing north and eastwards across the whole of the country.
01:12The rain will be on and off through the morning and into the afternoon.
01:15We may see a few glimpses of brightness developing across parts of the Midlands, East Anglia for
01:19example, but the vast majority it stays cloudy.
01:23Also turning increasingly windy as well across the whole of the country.
01:27We could see gusts of 30, 35 miles an hour.
01:29And then locally around western coast through the afternoon into the evening, we could see
01:35gusts of 45, possibly 50 to 55 miles an hour as the next part of the low pressure system
01:41begins to move in here.
01:43So further outbreaks of rain, Northern Ireland, Western Scotland for example.
01:47But the wind's coming in from the south, so a mild direction.
01:51Temperatures higher compared to Saturday, 13, possibly 14 Celsius, but the strength of
01:55the wind, it will just feel a little fresher than this and temperatures nearer to average
02:00across northern Scotland, 7 or 8 degrees here.
02:03Into the evening time, we'll see the band of heavy rain across Northern Ireland, Scotland
02:07pushing its way north and eastwards, generally dry across much of England and Wales until the
02:12early hours when the weather system will bring some rain into western parts here.
02:16Some clear skies following for Northern Ireland.
02:19The wind's staying brisk and still from the southerly direction, so temperatures for most
02:24overnight between 7 and 9 Celsius, where they should be for the daytime at this time of
02:30the year.
02:31Into Monday, a mixed start to the day.
02:34Cloudy with rain across parts of Scotland, Northern England, into Wales and the West Country.
02:38Either side of this, we'll see some sunny spells through the day, but then further showers
02:43will move into parts of Northern Ireland and also north-west Scotland as we move through
02:48into the afternoon.
02:49Winds generally lighter, but still fairly brisk, but coming in from a southerly direction
02:53for parts of England, for example, 14, 15 Celsius possible across south-east England.
02:58Something a little fresher as the winds turn to a north-westerly direction across parts
03:02of Northern Ireland, Scotland here, temperatures 9 to 10 Celsius.
03:06But some pleasant spells of sunshine away from that showery band of rain in the far north-west.
03:12As we look through the week ahead, high pressure tries to build in at times, so there will
03:17be some sunny spells possible, but also the risk of some thicker cloud and patchy rain from
03:23time to time across parts of England and Wales.
03:25Temperatures a little above average, particularly in the south, 13 to 15 Celsius and in the north
03:31around 9 to 12 Celsius.
03:32So in any sunnier spells that do develop through the week ahead, it will feel fairly pleasant
03:37at times.
