00:00yes let's take a look at the latest on the detroit lines in the draft as we are inside
00:06of two weeks to go before this thing and here's the very latest reporting as of today we start
00:13with espn's matt miller he came out with his final rankings of players he really does the deep dive
00:20too doesn't he he does he does a deep dive it's like 400 players deep or something uh i don't
00:25know how deep it is but hold on i can look at it um 482 players he ranks his top
00:32482 wow uh number
00:34one is jeremiah love the running back which is very interesting but it doesn't really pertain
00:39to the lions here's what pertains to the lions his top offensive lineman is francis maui and noah from
00:45the tackle from miami his next offensive lineman is number 14 maui noah is uh seventh number 14 is
00:52oliva venga awane after that spencer fanu is 18 if these rankings reflect brad holmes rankings
01:01do we need to start thinking and talking more about awane as a good pick and too good to pass
01:09up
01:09given that he's the second rated offensive lineman in the draft if these rankings reflect brad holmes
01:16uh yeah i mean at least that's what i've been saying when when that name comes up i keep telling
01:21myself it's hard it's gonna be hard to pass on on a guy that you think or not you but
01:25that all
01:26these other pundits think and maybe us uh is can't miss prospect a guy who has this incredibly high
01:33floor and still has a high ceiling if you think he's one of the best guards to come out of
01:37the
01:37the college ranks in the last 10 years great then why wouldn't i be interested in that we got
01:43things seem to be in flux with whoever the hell is going to play left guard we got enough guys
01:47that
01:47are competing for it but have they separated themselves to make you think like we've got a
01:52road grader there every single time i watch i own it i want i know i go back and say
01:59i really need to
02:00take a deeper dive into how good larry borum the tackle yeah how can we rely on him to play
02:07right tackle
02:08so that we can take owane because he's so good he looks he looks like a house yet he can
02:16get to the
02:16second level he's wide he's strong he's like he's a road grader and it certainly would bring back the
02:24run game i mean you hand the ball off up the middle lfg and and protect the pocket doesn't collapse
02:30from
02:31inside out and it really makes me want to circle back and do more research on larry borum can he
02:37get the
02:37job done a tackle because if they pass on a tackle here he might be your guy and that scares
02:42me a
02:42little but he might be too good to pass up well one thing i know is that the lions have
02:46done the
02:47deepest dives of all that's true and they they know what they're looking for and they'll identify
02:52uh whatever they're going to identify what what the trait is that you have to see from a right tackle
02:57can they do they see that from a bunch of guys you might see they're available at 50 if there
03:02are some
03:02tackles in in that range right does it make sense that uh you look at at the other tackle from
03:08uh
03:08from utah there's a lomo yeah or or others that will be had in the second round okay next item
03:15now
03:15later miller and their insiders did what we're hearing as of today but included in that he did
03:20a mini mock now mock is different than player rankings he did a mini seven round mock for the
03:25detroit lions every single pick his first two picks were caden proctor tackle from alabama at 17
03:32and gabe ackis edge rusher from illinois at 50 how would you feel about that one two combo at the
03:38top
03:38of the draft for the lions uh i feel good about it um borderline great about it i think i
03:44think
03:45hack is is really good he might be underrated i don't think people paid even though he's in a big
03:4910 i don't know people paid too much attention to him but he was a disruptor uh really came on
03:53um
03:54and and caden proctor there's you know mixed results and mixed reviews on him but i think
03:59mostly it's nitpicking at this point um if your big concern is can you keep them
04:05under 375 pounds i i think that there are ways you can do that the kid's only 23 years old
04:10or
04:10wherever he is 22 23 years old i think you can still install some some pretty good um you know
04:17routines in him so i i'd be good with that i'd be good with it what's weird about this is
04:22he only
04:22does the lions so you don't know who else is on the board you know we we had some mocks
04:27last week
04:28earlier in the week where keldrick frock and zion young were out of the first round are those guys
04:32off the board is our mason thomas off the board if they are then ackis makes some sense those are
04:37edge rushers second round dreams that i like more than gabe ackis but i agree with you i like this
04:43hard to know who else is without knowing who else is available and what about your your boy the
04:47linebacker jacob rodriguez uh well the next seven picks for the lions he has those i'm going to run
04:54these down you tell me if any of these stand out uh at 118 they take kamari ramsey the safety
04:59from
05:00usc 128 they take zane durant defensive tackle from penn state 157 they take desmond claiborne running
05:07back from wake forest 181 they take justin jefferson linebacker from alabama 205 barry and brown
05:14wide receiver lsu 213 pat coogan center indiana and 222 colin wright cornerback stanford anything
05:22stand out in that group okay so coogan's interesting because we saw a lot of him playing in indiana and
05:27there was a lot to like with him um is he an overachiever he might be but that just screams
05:33a dan campbell type player guy who loves football and gives you everything he's got so that's a late
05:38pick that i like the other thing i notice out of that is that you're taking players at positions from
05:43schools that have had success you're going to take a lot if you're going to take a wide receiver
05:48from from lsu i'm all for it sure it sounds like they've always got a stable of receivers this guy
05:52may not have been the big contributor for the for the tigers but he's an lsu wide receiver sounds good
05:57you're going to take blue blood from alabama and go for one of their linebackers yep i'm on board
06:02sounds good there and uh the safety from usc kamari ramsey he's good so i and and i think that
06:10safety is a
06:10huge need for this team and this is a guy that can step in maybe right away and and and
06:16play and
06:16then certainly develop i i like out of all this the next group of players here that matt miller has
06:22in
06:22the detroit line seven round mock i like kamari ramsey the best and pat coogan who can play anywhere on
06:28the offensive line he screams detroit lion to me any like he's played tackle at notre dame played
06:36centered indiana the kind of versatile chess piece that the lions love to have all right final thing
06:41i'm reporting today daniel jeremiah did a mock on the mina kimes show and as he was working his way
06:47through it they get to the lions pick at 17 and a consensus top 10 prospect had dropped to them
06:54at 17
06:56and he even surprised himself he's like wait a sec
07:00francis maui noah the tackle from miami is there any chance he falls to them at 17 because in daniel
07:09jeremiah's mock with mina kimes he did i i can't see anyway i i mean like when we do our
07:16our mock drafts
07:18and we're going to do the karshan anderson mock draft i think it's going to be 3.0 that we
07:21do the week
07:22of yeah um of the draft which is coming up rapidly yep uh just a couple weeks he's going to
07:29be named
07:29we leave off the list can't have probably because daniel jeremiah is the only person that i've ever seen
07:35that has mauno available and it's 17 it was funny he didn't forget about him he's like yeah well you
07:42know and he talked about the teams in front of him that would pass on him and then the other
07:46teams
07:46that would pass for you know choosing between him and others or teams that just don't need him
07:51the only way i see the lions getting mauno is trading up for him and i'm not and if if
07:56his
07:58thinking is that other players are going in other positions and it keeps pushing mauno back that at
08:02some point the lions are going to say well we can't wait because someone's going to recognize as the
08:06best tackle in the draft and they're going to leapfrog over everybody and go get them let it be the
08:10lions to do that well every year somebody surprises there's always surprises this would be as pleasant
08:19as surprise as i could remember if the top tackle happens to fall to 17 do you have a gut
08:24feeling
08:25on who the player is that's going to slide uh i don't do you i feel like i don't know
08:31why but it's
08:32just a gut feeling it's a feeling that reuben bain slides and i'm not sure why why i come up
08:38with
08:38reuben bain okay i'll tell you who i don't love all right okay i don't love this core wide receivers
08:47i don't love any of the wide receivers but they're all a lot of them have projected to go before
08:52the
08:52lions pick carnell tate being the number one wide receiver i think is he's a good player he's a good
08:58player he's a solid he's one of these solid players mckay lemon the usc really good player but i
09:05don't i wouldn't take any of these guys in the top 10 i'd be if i were looking for a
09:08receiver and i
09:09had like a top 10 pick i'd trade back because i think they're a bunch of guys are kind of
09:14good not
09:15great yeah i'm with you on that all right there it is aggregating detroit lions draft news on a daily
09:20basis here on karshan anderson on 97.1
