These 3 players could be perfect fits for the Lions in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

00:12so i i think there are three guys in particular that really fit what the lions look for in players

00:21so it's a little bit of predicting what i think they might do and i do think that jacob rodriguez

00:26does check a lot of those boxes i'm a big fan but his story is amazing he was a quarterback

00:32and he committed to virginia he went to virginia and i don't think he ever threw a pass i think

00:39caught several passes and carried the ball i found stats for him carrying the ball and and catching

00:46passes which most quarterbacks don't do but they just put them on the field so brocco mundenhall's

00:55coach at virginia he's gone after rodriguez first year and rodriguez doesn't is like doesn't want

01:03to play for the new guy puts his name in the portal doesn't have any takers transfers to texas tech

01:09he's

01:09got a brother who's at texas tech he transfers to texas tech and he lives on his brother's floor

01:16he doesn't have a scholarship he's a walk-on and he turns himself into the what one of the best

01:22linebackers in college football so no scholarship living on the floor fights through all that

01:29and he had a great quote the hard part is getting to the football once you're there the reward is

01:34getting the football out he forced six fumbles this past year he was a tackling machine he's a two-time

01:42captain described by teammates as a leader of men those are the boxes that i think the lions look for

01:48that get checked and all over the field like as a former quarterback he seems to be able to diagnose

01:55plays quicker than most so i i don't know between his story and some of the intangibles he sounds

02:02like the kind of guy the lions would love and i know you're a fan not as big as me

02:07as a player now is linebacker the biggest need it probably isn't but is he is he too good for

02:13lions to pass on but he checked too many boxes for them to pass and we'll even be there at

02:18it all depends on and obviously who's there at 50 there there are so many guys that that that i

02:23a lot of them probably aren't going to be there right jamal mccoy is is available is he's likely to

02:30go quickly in the first round they're in the second round here the corner from tennessee like him a lot

02:35um like love him in the second round not so much in her first round right stooks was the other

02:44toledo love him in the second round um but i'm also looking at edge rushers i want an edge rusher

02:50and i'm i'm not that big on zion young uh cassius howell is another edge rusher is available he's got

02:57the the same small arm issue that uh that reuben bain has although you know the tape will tell you

03:03thing so you're gonna have to get past that i mean the guy i love is an edge rusher is

03:07sutton from from penn state but i think even at 50 that might be a little high to take him

03:12but if you've got conviction if you think he's the stud if you think he's better than everybody else

03:21to get um and and maybe it happens tonight if they move back into the third round then maybe that's

03:26spot for him but for second round i'd be looking at secondary help yeah i mean the edge rushers i

03:32sure zion young would be on their uh high on their board um and he mentioned another one there

03:38uh but but but but cassius howell cassius howell cassius howell's a speed rusher and cassius howell

03:44i feel like they've had speed rushers in the past and they like more all-around players

03:48so i'm not sure they'd go after cassius howell you mentioned trading stooks that's another guy of the

03:54three that i think checks a lot of boxes and again you look at their story and how much do

03:58they love the

03:58game stooks out of high school okay his dad played court cornerback at pacific and that's a relevant

04:05point i'll get to that in a sec a second out of high school he was 150 pounds 150 pounds

04:15trying to

04:16play college football and the only way he got a shot was it turned out that a guy that coached

04:21his dad at

04:22pacific was the defensive coordinator at arizona and so he got his son's tape in front of him said

04:29sure come walk on he walked on at arizona and was there for six years and you know obviously got

04:37bigger and stronger late bloomer physically and turned himself into a great football player he was

04:45a captain there going from no star recruit to a captain you know we didn't excel that in high school

04:50and i've always find this event amazing he settled the triple jump i have no idea what the hell the

04:54triple jump is i see it every time i don't know what the purpose is you jump three times i

04:58know but

04:58it was always kind of a weird thing uh but he also has position versatility where they're not sure

05:04safety corner nickel i think the lions like that stuff that's why i think he's the pick at 50

05:09it's because i think stooks would be the pick at 50 because he does have that versatility because he

05:13could step in right away and and play safety for a bit while you need him to and and who

05:19knows may

05:19end up being a permanent fixture at safety but because he's got coverage skills because he's got

05:24the massive uh advantage and speed with the 433 speed uh that's awesome now does he still need to

05:32recover from some injuries yeah but by all accounts he should be ready to roll uh by the time we

05:37get to

05:37training camp so i'm not concerned about that just like wouldn't be concerned about mccoy with the same

05:42thing so uh in the second round i'm not concerned about that i think the versatility is what makes him

05:47really attractive to the lions and that's why i think they take a 50 the other one and i could

05:52see

05:52stooks totally being picked the one other that i think would really be attractive to them is kaya

05:57lewis the linebacker safety from pitt um this is a smallest of youngest of three brothers who got the

06:03crap beaten out of him by big brothers growing up ended up being a wild cat quarterback in high school

06:08but undersized as a linebacker but elite coverage skills and played the star linebacker and pat

06:16narduzzi's defense at pitt and i love this description of him a c-ball get ball hunter and

06:23you know like i said captain these are the kinds of things that the lions look for so those would

06:28the three that i think between stooks lewis and rodriguez i think it feels to me like lions future

06:36detroit lions guys that the lions would love to have you've got a little bit longer list

06:47mentioned a fascinating player that's jermon mccoy might be the most talented corner in the draft

06:53knee concerns and the knee concerns if you wouldn't take them in the first round and if nobody would

07:01take them in the first round it feels like those concerns a lot of doctors are saying no does that

07:06mean

07:06and and at 50 is it a wasted pick are you taking a huge gamble is it worth the risk

07:13because it feels like they must be pretty valid concerns to have him fall all the way out of the

07:17first round well we'll see if he goes first overall in the second round i mean i i think that

07:22there are

07:23reasons to be a little concerned and and but once you get past that first round because the first round

07:28the biggest difference is it's the fifth year it's the contract it's not about you know ceilings and and

07:34in basements and whatnot i think this guy if he was had a clean bill of health could have been

07:40the

07:40first defensive back it could have been the first cornerback taken in the draft um but he he's coming

07:46off an injury where he didn't play last year he took all last year off he could have come back

07:50and

07:50played late in the season but said you know what no i'm gonna just gonna get ready and and uh

07:55for the

07:55combine and pro day and and showcase my where's that way now did it pay off for him not into

08:01the tune

08:01where he was a first round pick but that's an awfully talented player that'd be hard to pass

08:06on at 50 i don't think he's gonna be there i think he's gonna be gone in the early 30s

08:36most of the season so i don't think they got a real good look but i wouldn't it wouldn't it

09:02a guy who was they took a chance on they liked they loved his athletic ability uh but he had

09:10played a ton of football in his life it was late that was late to the game so there's a

09:15curve with having learned what the the basics of football and the the position but apparently

09:21he's a guy who's really willing to learn hard worker and incredibly athletic it's a project and

09:27now this is going to be year three of the project you know obviously they went out and found a

09:32offensive tackle in the first round this year so take it for what what you will i think the issue

09:37is gator they gave up assets to go get this project of course that's the problem yeah and that's

09:42where people like they really harp on that pick because a lot of people think he was like an

09:46undrafted player and unlike you could have got him in the free agent market after the draft but

09:51they felt conviction they you know they couldn't sleep at night whatever it was he said after and

09:56he had to go get him and i think one of the reasons he's injured all the time is because

10:00he

10:00doesn't play for he hasn't played football it's a different level at the pro level it's a man's game

10:05right and for a guy who played college ball in canada that was a big risk and i don't think

10:09it's

10:09going to pan out i personally think he's probably going to end up getting cut but he's he's currently

10:12on the roster and he'll get a chance as long as he's healthy to do something but last year they

10:17had they had to pull dan skipper off the practice squad yeah i i don't know if i don't know

10:22if him

10:22not playing a ton of football has anything to do with the injuries that he's suffered but

10:26i i think that there absolutely is the reason that people were skeptical of him is because he didn't

10:32have any any kind of track record because they did give up assets to move up i'm with you on

10:37when they made that pick i was like what are they doing project and it hasn't worked out to this
