00:10time to talk some nfl with our lions pre-draft news aggregates every day we will scour
00:20whatever's out there and being reported about guys who could be lions
00:24the scuttlebutt is and we will start with the report today from espn's matt miller
00:30and scott anderson here's what he writes what we're hearing about the lions draft
00:36the release of taylor decker prompted many to assume detroit would go offensive tackle in round
00:41one but i've heard the lions are equally high on filling their edge rusher need with only two
00:49picks in the top 117 the lions should be expected to go tackle an edge rusher with those selections
00:54equally interested in an edge rusher feels like most of detroit scott has moved on from edge rusher
01:02to offensive tackle how would you feel if they go edge at 17 how will detroit react if they go
01:10edge
01:11at 17 i think fans would be happy either way if they go edge or or tackle depending on you
01:17know who
01:18they're going after but um i mean fans been asking for an edge rusher and putting a resource into
01:25that and a first round pick is a resource you're using a six round pick isn't a resource so i
01:31think
01:31they'd be fine with it who would that be in that spot i mean that could be a key mesador
01:35i don't
01:36think it's going to include any of the big names like reuben bain obviously the arvel reese or or
01:41bailey are going to be gone by that point and i think bain is gone by that point too so
01:44you're now
01:45you're getting that next tier i love mesador as you know he's older i don't care that he's older
01:51means he's ready to go he's he's physically mature he put up great numbers and he's imposing i think
02:00he's going to be a great pro so i'm a i'm a um keldrick falk fan and if they go
02:07him at 17 i'll be
02:08thrilled i also like the depth of the offensive tackle spot so i think there's a chance they can
02:14get a guy that could challenge larry borum for the starting right tackle spot and move penne
02:18school to left kang what do you think of this report that they like edge as much as tackle
02:23oh i think that i wouldn't put anything past the lions and brad holmes i told you and you guys
02:28agree with it like they build they build a team going into the draft that would be ready to play
02:33a playoff game they'd use the draft to supplement their team right so i think they feel comfortable
02:37with borum and right tackle if they drafted an edge i think the first reaction from fans would be
02:42this is awesome it's a splash type of move a guy that you know they've been screaming for to get
02:46somebody opposite hutch for a while now but then they'd realize oh no we have larry borum at right
02:51tackle so i don't know how long that will last for maybe day two is when they go all right
02:55second
02:55round we need to tackle but initially i think fans would love it and i don't i wouldn't put it
02:59past
02:59the lines at all all right next up espn did a what we're hearing about certain prospects
03:06including two that seem to be in the field of players that the lions would consider
03:11one is katon proctor the other is monroe freeling but these are executives quoted on what they're
03:19saying about these prospects and you tell me if they sound like future detroit lions regarding katon
03:26proctor one nfl team executive was blunt he should be a top five pick he's as good as he wants
03:32to be
03:33but the story goes on to say that people are questioning proctor because of his weight
03:38scouts say he ballooned to around 390 pounds last year during the season and played his way into shape
03:45he's around 350 now and looked good at pro day regarding monroe freeling an afc executive said super
03:55talented but doesn't play but play doesn't match it six foot seven fast long but could be rough at first
04:03you could stick with it and let him play through growing pains he can be really good his film isn't
04:09as
04:09good as some other guys right now one guy weight problem another guy film isn't as good as some other
04:15guys do these sound like future detroit lions yeah i i think when it get to critiquing players
04:23everybody is going to look for something negative you have to find something negative and i heard john
04:28jansen talking about this morning with uh about caden proctor that weight is an issue that's his
04:34concern with with caden proctor is is he going to be this guy that isn't dedicated enough to keep the
04:38weight in check and play around 350 pounds or is he going to let it get out of control so
04:42he's still
04:43athletic and still get plays done but the heavier you are the more susceptible you are to injuries and i
04:48and
04:48i i agree with that i can understand that but as far as monroe freeling is concerned i mean
04:54i i i think the tape shows that he's actually very very good now are there some flaws there's
05:00gonna be flaws with damn near everyone so can you improve on that is the question and i i trust
05:07the
05:07lions to make the better decision with those players but well we'll see where monroe freeling goes my
05:13guess is monroe freeling isn't going to be available to the lions at 17. kang what do you make of
05:17this one
05:17maybe with a weight problem the other one the tape doesn't match up yeah well you you're i think
05:21your original question was that do those sound like lions players they don't when you put those
05:25things out there they don't but the question is how much do those affect what the you know what
05:30the lions evaluation is it do they have the same evaluation of those reports and but i think those
05:35are pretty universal with those two guys by the way yeah the weight thing is is intriguing because
05:42that stuff can be manipulated that could be bad information that gets thrown out there
05:45the tapes the tape and i think if they see enough from monroe freeling's tape it won't scare them off
05:50this is one person's evaluation could be the worst drafter in the league that told this guy this
05:55so uh final thing here as we aggregate information regarding our lions two weeks from the draft
06:03sports illustrated did the top eight free agents still available and their ideal landing spot
06:08one of them was projected that their ideal landing spot is the lions
06:15here's what they write well it would be remarkable for calais campbell to continue his career
06:20at 40 it shouldn't be a surprise based on how well he played last season with the cardinals
06:25he still commands plenty of attention on the field and has more to offer his teammates with his wealth
06:31of knowledge the lions could use campbell to provide depth behind a lean mcneil and mentorship for 2025
06:36first round pick tylich williams campbell's appeared in 278 games in 18 seasons he recorded
06:41six and a half sacks and nine cuby hits last season at the age of 39 calais campbell ideal fit
06:48detroit
06:48what do you make of that i mean i like calais campbell i've always liked calais campbell as
06:51long as you're still producing yeah i i love cam jordan too the guy he's in the same boat
06:56you know still producing um do they have money to to bring one of these guys here i don't know
07:02if
07:02calais campbell still wants to play or not i believe he's older than cam jordan right
07:06um but he's one of these guys can just keep playing it's like daryl green played forever
07:12didn't lose his speed which is crazy kang what would you think of calais campbell yeah i would
07:17love it i mean obviously at the right price remember when haloti nada was here kind of like
07:21that he's not going to be as good as you know he ever was you know a few years ago
07:25but if he can
07:26still be productive and be a good voice i mean this this locker room doesn't need much more culture
07:30but he's not going to upset that at all it feels like their starters are kind of set at that
07:34spot
07:34with tyreek williams and aleem mcneil so he'd be a depth guy asked to come in and spell them but
07:40i
07:40always look at the intangibles and a guy who was once the walter peyton man of the year they love
07:46guys like that guys that'll do everything in the locker room so if they can't get cam jordan if the
07:51price the ask is too much and there's reporting out there today that dan campbell wanted alex anzalone
07:58back but the front office didn't want to pay the money for him money's an issue right now it feels
08:02like campbell would come on the cheap relative to cam jordan which might make it more attractive to
08:07them do i prefer cam jordan yes but if there's no path no realistic path to cam jordan clays
08:12campbell's not a bad fallback position no and and he's just a massive body it is it's great experience
08:17and can play all over the line so i mean there's a lot to like with him the only question
08:22is how much
08:22does he have left in him yep so there you go some of the stuff that's out there regarding our
08:27detroit
08:27lions as we uh are just two weeks away from the national football league draft all right tiger
08:34baseball coming up this afternoon scott thoughts on today's game jack flaherty needs a good start
08:39uh he does need a good start he needs to give them some quality innings so hopefully he can get
08:43through
08:43the sixth inning and and uh and turn things over to the bullpen at that point and hopefully with a
08:48lead we need to see some bats show up and i'd like to see them put the ball over the
08:52fence maybe a day
08:53game actually seeing the sun allows them to do that it's time for them to break out man this series
08:58has gone about as poor as it could against a not expected to be great baseball team so tiger baseball
09:04coming up next thanks for listening everybody stay safe and as always treat each other with respect
