00:04the car scott anderson 97 one tigers in boston for the weekend uh four game series uh today
00:10tomorrow sunday and monday they're in the marathon game uh the patriots day game which starts at 11
00:16a.m um so get your champion votes in quick on monday uh maybe maybe either quick or if the
00:24game's quick uh you'll hear us this would be a weird one we could be the wraparound coverage we
00:29could be pre-tiger game and post-tiger game which would be a first for us we'll see if it
00:35happens
00:36let's talk some nfl
00:40it's time for the detroit lions draft news aggregate thingy we take all the latest reporting on the nfl
00:45draft anything that has to do with the lions put it all in one place that is right here right
00:51now
00:51we'll start with this espn put together a list of the biggest steals of day two for the lions
00:57who would be the biggest steal that they could find on day two of the draft at 50
01:04doug i may be stealing your thunder here but the way that i look at it the steal if this
01:11guy slips
01:12to 50 and he's there i know that we're gonna have to lay down a tarp in the studio and
01:17that you're
01:17gonna be wearing parachute pants for a long time but jacob rodriguez the linebacker from texas tech
01:23he is a fly around the field kind of tackling machine with the flair for knocking the ball loose
01:29that is a guy that fits in anybody's defense and would make the lions defense better from day one
01:38if jacob rodriguez is there at 50 i think we're all going to be screaming run run to the phone
01:45and make that selection to make him a detroit lion jacob rodriguez a linebacker texas tech at 50
01:53would be the steal eyes on your own paper man kang who you got uh i've got so a guy
02:02who's underrated
02:03i hope drops to you drops on the lines at 50 i've got a guy that most people are not
02:06going to be
02:06happy with i think it's because of position but i got defensive tackle from florida caleb banks right
02:12so he could be a late first round pick second round pick maybe fall to 50 i think he's a
02:17guy
02:17that you got to watch out for the lines keeping their eye on him because right now defensive tackle
02:22obviously they have a lean mcneil and they have tylic williams the first rounder from last year
02:26no dj reader didn't bring back roy lopez i think they're still thin at that spot and they know it
02:31they want guys that can rotate in and out he's a big big frame versatile heavy hands really strong
02:37right and caleb banks would be a solid pick at 50 falls to them yeah you know it's funny because
02:43obviously i do like rodriguez and i what and uh i i've seen more mocks well i'll just say this
02:51i'll
02:51add a couple more to that and that is one is maxi hanichur and the other is caleb lomo
02:55and and i'm not if you look at my my personal big board at 17 yeah the idea is getting
03:01a starting
03:02tackle potential guy a guy that can at least battle with larry born for the other tackle spot
03:07and i think both hanichur and lomo have that second round and they there are there are many
03:11mocks where they're in the first round but it feels like more and more they're in the second round
03:16and and you're a mesador guy in the first round anyway so to me i guess i would add the
03:21two tackles
03:22to the list but but i i the second round talent is there which is the the trade back option
03:30to add
03:31another pick to maybe somehow get into the second round again okay so attractive if jacob rodriguez
03:37is there at 50 and the lions select him you know we're gonna have to ask doug on a daily
03:40basis
03:41why are you so sweaty oh god because he's doing karate in the garage uh next up the line watching
03:48cops the lions twitter counted something very interesting this uh in the last 24 hours they
03:54tweeted out the last 10 picks at 17 of the draft they include cornerback christian gonzalez second
04:02team all pro wide receiver cd lamb all pro derwin james all pro dexter lawrence second team all pro
04:11and there were other players mixed in there should we be more excited about 17 than we are or is
04:17this
04:18just a coincidence i i think it's probably just a coincidence but i'm excited about 17 based on
04:23on just different mock drafts and how we look at it and what we think is would be appropriate for
04:29the lions there are a number of players that they could select at 17 that i'd be just thrilled with
04:33so i i get it um i think they're going to end up getting a starter at 17 or at
04:38the very least
04:39like it's somebody who will compete for the starting job immediately which is kind of all you can ask for
04:46every year teams have different needs different approaches to the draft so it always you know it allows
04:53some really talented players to kind of slide based on what other teams are going you get a run on
04:58a
04:58certain position group and it's not the position group you're looking at or the guy that you're
05:01looking at all of a sudden that player becomes available and this happens all the time so um
05:07since some years you just have drafts that are totally stocked with high-end talent should i be
05:12excited about 17 yeah i'm excited about 17 i think they're going to get a really good player there
05:16kang i don't think it's a coincidence i think 17 is a solid pick and a solid a lot of
05:21players good
05:21players are taking there because it then it ends up being bpa a lot of times because 17 is a
05:26spot
05:27where all the high-end talent is gone in the first 10 picks right so after that point it's like
05:31well
05:32who's just the best player available maybe you don't have to focus on need as much i think we
05:37should be a lot more excited i think 17 is a solid spot to take a really good player so
05:41here's the way
05:42i look at it it is a coincidence that a bunch of all pro players went at 17 but it's
05:47not a coincidence
05:48that all pro players are on the board at 17 for example the year cd lamb went 17 justin jefferson
05:54went five picks later the year dexter lawrence went 17 jeffrey simmons another all pro defensive
06:00tackle went two picks later there are going to be guys on the board and there always are it's up
06:07to holmes to find them and it i don't think it has anything to do with 17 although your argument's
06:11interesting kang because of sort of the teams that are picking they're usually pretty decent and the
06:16talent that's off the board but so they go bpa but at the end of the day it's just evidence
06:21that
06:2217 is a great spot to find a great player so it's probably 18 19 20 like it i think
06:27it just
06:28further exemplifies that there's plenty of talent i'm glad they're not picking the 20s
06:32um but if they were to trade and get a pick in the 20s i'd be okay with that too
06:36but i just
06:37the guy they can get at 17 i think it's gonna be a really good player the only thing that
06:40sucks
06:41this year's guys is there's not it's not a deep deep quarterback draft that pushes a lot of
06:45position players down you know so we'll see what happens this year okay uh next up there's
06:49more reporting today on jermaud mccoy daniel jeremiah on a conference call yesterday said
06:55he thinks the lions are going to go freeling or proctor one of the tackles at 17 but said if
07:00they're gone jermaud mccoy is what he's hearing now he also admitted he doesn't hear it from lion
07:05sources because the lions actually are really to keep information in house but he hears it from
07:11other nfl sources that have a chance to get to the lions so he asked other teams what they're
07:15hearing about the lions so the mccoy talk appears to be real and while the speed is back daniel
07:21jeremiah mentioned the lateral movement and change of direction isn't back is that enough to say i'll
07:27pass no it's not we're in april and the guy is already running in the 4-3 range right uh
07:36the lateral
07:37movement is going to come back with time i can't tell you when it's going to come back but if
07:41the
07:42guy's already running in the 4-3 range and he's got the vertical leap of near 40 inches athletically
07:47he'll be just fine he'll be ready to start the season and i expect that that lateral movement comes
07:52back um it's an instinctive position this is a guy who clearly has the instincts to play if he didn't
08:00get hurt everybody was saying that he was tracking in the same direction that that uh that stingley was
08:05and other other great defensive backs heading into the uh the draft and how heralded they have been
08:11if this guy wasn't hurt everybody's saying he would have been a top 10 pick so he got hurt sat
08:17out a long
08:18time by the way could have come back last year decided to stay out and just heal up absolutely if
08:26he's there at 17 and and there were some some offensive linemen that were off the board yeah i would
08:31consider him 100 kang you i'll pass here's the thing um he actually his talent so good guys that
08:38he might have been the number one cornerback taken last year if he was draft eligible obviously he
08:42wasn't then he got hurt and the only reason he might be available for the lines is because of the
08:46injury for me i gotta take a higher floor guy i just think the lines aren't in position to take
08:50that type of chance right now i don't like drafting a guy who might have a degenerative knee apparently
08:55according to some sources so as much as the talent could be there i'm not taking that chance i can
09:01go
09:01a different direction with the player you feel safer about yeah i'm not afraid at all of taking
09:05injured players but i think i'm gonna pass on mccoy as well and the reason is there's just too much
09:11uncertainty there if he could prove that the lateral movement's going to come back no problem
09:15i'd be fine with it but at this point with the information available today if what jeremiah is
09:20hearing is accurate i don't think the lions and brad holmes is in a are in a position to take
09:26a
09:26chance like this he needs to crush the draft and needs to get players and this probably red flags him
09:33for me um but you know i can it's a risk reward type of deal but i i think he's
09:40got to kill this draft
09:41and so i don't think i would take that chance all right final thing your wish list top three prospects
09:48at 17 that you have seen on the board for the line so obviously we're not going to say
09:52you know sunny styles arvel reese and caleb downs right why don't go ohio state uh your wish list
10:00your top three at 17 one two and three what does your big board look like number one is monroe
10:06freeling
10:06the big offensive tackle i want him badly he's got all the size uh the only knock on monroe freeling
10:13is
10:13he he didn't start for like four years right but when he started he was awfully good there's a lot
10:19to like with him and and the body frame is probably number one and then you look at the film
10:23and see
10:24he was just dominant and and kind of relentless he's number one number two for me is is the guard
10:30from penn state bangayoni i love this guy i think he's a stud and he might be one b like
10:38freeling is
10:38one a he's one b i'm not sure which one i'd rather have i think there's more of a need
10:42for the lions
10:43to tackle so that's why i look at tackle uh but ionia is somebody that if he's there and freeling
10:48is
10:48off the board i can't pass on him he's too good of a guy and would solidify the middle of
10:54that
10:54lions offensive line for at least the next three years until cade mace's contract is up but i can
10:59perhaps find his replacement later in the draft which might be a conversation for later next week
11:04uh number three for me is a key mesador the edge rusher from miami i'm a huge fan of his
11:11i know
11:11you are too doug i think kang is as well we all like what this guy does he's got great
11:16size uh for
11:17that position great production at that position yes he's older i don't care it just means he's
11:24physically ready to go plug and play on the opposite side of aiden hutchinson right now and that defense
11:29is good to go kang you it's a tough one for me doug because i'm not truly really in love
11:33with
11:33anyone at 15 right now it's very fluid for me still but if you're asking me right now i'd have
11:38to rank freeling number one as well gator just as athleticism for a tackle is just through the roof
11:44um second one guys you can you know exit if you don't think he would be available i got fanu
11:49uh i just think that a tackle is that important that my first two guys are tackles third mesador if
11:54i
11:54can't get one of my top two tackles mesador is the guy i want like i was saying you know
11:58plug and play
11:59older guy but that means he's just more ready mentally and physically yeah okay so my list is
12:03one a key mesador and i think he is for them if he's on the board one of the more
12:09sure things
12:10in this draft to oliva venga ione the guard from penn state he's an absolute house in the middle of
12:16your offensive line and he'll bully over and run blocking and three is caden proctor the tackle from
12:21alabama the size and the athleticism i cannot pass on king he didn't say monroe freeling no i think
12:27that i think if i were to bet what the wyons board is i bet monroe freeling's number one
12:32but this is my board i know i understand i i i think monroe freeling checks all their boxes
12:37and i don't like brad holmes but you think caden proctor is i would take caden proctor it's not what
12:43i think this is i understand i'm looking at you i think that holmes guy is overrated
12:52i say facetiously yes there it is the uh the draft aggregate blitz thingy you want to keep going
